Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

I bought wool Blush

I am trying to stay away from a lot of the mn threads but finding some gentle time wasting activities on the webs is something i am out of practice with. Everything I generally do requires so much thought. Next up is pinterest, that should waste half hour or so until the sleep aid kicks in. . .

shipsforbrains · 18/05/2021 20:58

Heya it’s ships. I’m sorry I keep going AWOL! I’m hoping to be back properly this time😂. DH’s work hours have changed so he now has fridays off but to make up for it he does a 10 hour shift instead of 8 hours like before so we’re trying to settle into a new routine. I have read through but can’t remember what I was meant to say to you all!!.

mc I think it was you who asked how to prepare a boat for bad weather. It’s mainly just making sure everything that could fly off on our mooring is put in the shed or tied down and making sure we’re securely tied up. Weaning is going well, I’m not following any books but we’re doing BLW. I completely see why you’re scared though! When Orli was weaning I hated watching but I feel a bit more prepared this time around.

half I think it was your birthday that I missed (I apologise if it isn’t), so happy belated birthday! It sounds like you had some wonderful prezzies.

cloud I still breastfeed Orli who is 2 and I don’t have any intentions to stop soon and I get judged for it. You can’t do right for doing wrong, so just choose what’s best for your family and sod everyone else. I get what you mean though, I was a young mum, I got pregnant in my last year of uni so I know how judgey people can be!.

Thank you for the comments on the DC’s names, our family didn’t really like them to begin with but it really suits them!. I’ll start calling them by their names on here now as I always do it accidentally and have to go back and edit my posts, so it’ll make it easier for me now😂.

I can’t remember who it was, I think maybe it was mc but was someone going to start trying cloth nappies/wipes?.

Redsquirrel5 · 18/05/2021 21:15

Hills do you live in the south? I don’t know how people afford a house there except those in highly paid jobs. Housing in the north and the south of Scotland is much better. Housing in the Lakes isn’t of course.

I used to try and save half my wage too. I could always do it especially as we weren’t paid in the school holiday like we used to be ( half pay retainer) and it was rare to get a full time position.

So sorry you got that response from a GP. My GP is lovely, very concerned and is happy to discuss things properly. I rang and asked for him to phone me back which he did and he spent about 20 minutes checking on my mental health first and then discussing the vaccine as I have an erratic immune system. I reacted quite badly to a flu jab once but he said it wasn’t a live vaccine so shouldn’t be a problem. I ached in my elbow joints and had a severe headache for just over a fortnight but nothing else. Perhaps a little tired but wasn’t sure if that was just me.

We went out shopping for the greenhouse- 2 bags of the wrong sort of sand. Didn’t match up with the type and price displayed🤬, five bags of pea gravel and some canes at B&M. Before that we went to. Garden centre that we thought had closed ( thanks BF) and bought some plants then went to a pub garden for lunch. I had a lovely vegan salad and we shared a garlic flatbread. Had tea and cake then laid the flags and pea gravel on top of membrane. It looks really good.

DH is going walking tomorrow and I am planning to pot up some tomatoes, some strawberries, peas and a few other plants. I bought some plants as I think seeds would take too long and we are having an open Gardens in the village. I am going to plant some seeds too then I will have a longer period for crops. So thrilled with the green house. It is so relaxing.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to everyone. I wonder how SC is?

📞finally had phone call with social worker Hmm

Mc3209 · 18/05/2021 22:27

Hello, everyone 😊 I've been a bit AWOL too.. I have been flying though, even mostly keeping up with missions. DH has been very helpful around the house as well, mowing the grass, washing the windows, and battling the kitchen. I am well impressed.

Ships yep, it was me starting cloth. I've successfully implemented cloth nappies for overnight, 12 hours with no leaks, woohoo! I think I need to be braver with finger foods. I find things like banana and avocado sticks are quite slippery for him to hold, so I just pop them into a mesh bag thing for him. Otherwise weaning is going well.
Thank you for explaining the boat, very interesting.
Willow I hope you managed to reset and find your balance.
Hills frustrating is the word.
Cloud how is your little one doing?
Sing congratulations on your first call! Exciting stuff 🥳
Red your new greenhouse sounds lovely.

🍒👋

Mc3209 · 18/05/2021 22:28

X post Sing Impressive list!

Mc3209 · 18/05/2021 22:33

Oh, completely forgot. We are going to a wedding soon, and DS' kilt arrived few days ago. Last item to arrive was his sporran and it is so cute (pic attached)! I didn't think one could find kilt for babies this small, but I'm glad I searched.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/05/2021 05:25

MCcute doesn't cover it💞
Hills try a pharmacist.dd1 has anaphylaxis and asthma/eczema and they are often more helpful than doctor for advice!
Willow ah,a state the bloody obvious g.p.i think there's a school for learning that that all camhs workers attend!
Foxes I'm a slattern and would accept defeat on try tidy the kitchen much til it's finished🤣
That I hate see myself but adore the lack hot bodies in cattle market type setting that is secondary parents evening.i try and ignore me and focus on someone else's face
Sing that's brilliant news on volunteer front!how did social worker meet go?

Well I've a new phone.tech phone required zoolets to set it up FB locked me out but have messenger, insta and Pinterest and my alphabetty account saved so I can continue procrastinating.i now have Spotify too as we have family premium and my old phone didn't have space for it!

Bake dd1 cherry cake
Had call from dietician for oil zoo, followed by email of DOS and don'ts and plan..currently eats twice day plus maybe one snack.2-400mls fluid.now required 6x eat incl snacks and 1.6-2 litres.i have tinhat tightly strapped on and Anderson shelter in place out back!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 19/05/2021 06:21

Morning all Brew

Well yesterday i FINALLY made a start on my FINAL piece of uni work for this academic year. 200 of 3000 words done but better than nothing right! I need to keep trying to get a bit done each day, its all due in on the 27th so 8/9 days.

I also sorted two big bags of stuff for doorstep charity collection so i'm going to put that out in a min.

Plan is once this uni work is done (maths gcse work already all done and submitted) i have about 5 weeks to get on top of the house before baby arrives. I want to paint in two rooms and swap two of the dcs rooms over, i need to order a couple of bits from wayfair and go to ikea. 🤞 i can have some order going on

Dancingtomusic · 19/05/2021 07:15

👋

halfhope · 19/05/2021 07:59

Well done that that's so inspiring about the academic work. I hope you can rope in painting help.

Hurrah for new phone, zoo. It seems to be serving you well, glad you have Spotify back and that the cherry cake was a hit.
Mc adorably cute little sporran. Has McTiny made his opinion known?
That just remember you are actually pregnant with #6. It will be understandable if you don't get all of that done (she says, having spent all weekend up a ladder and apparently buggered this week as a result)
Sing glad the social worker finally got her act together. Disorganised lack of professionalism really makes me cross.
Ships hello! Glad all is well.
Thunder hope DD is on the mend and you're not feeling too exhausted.
Dancing 👋👋👋
Hills hope you got some sleep. What are you going to do with your wool?
Hope, trust the early night helped.
Red your plans for growing things sound so exciting! The flag stones and gravel sound great, is the garden as you want it now?

Back on our heads for a other day. Shocking sleep here, up at 1am to eat something and try to shift terrible ache between shoulder blades, at 4.45 with dreadful cough (hay fever related asthma not under control again), then a charming nightmare about having to go back to Uni and try to fit in when I didn't understand any of the cultural references The Kids were making. Urgh.

Anyway. To do:
🎪 DW, LOL etc
🤹‍♀️ Sort out emails and planning
🎪 Telephone call at 10
🤹‍♀️ Take DS3 to podiatrist in Golders Green - leaving at 11, back at 2 I think.
🎪 .....
🤹‍♀️ profit?

Supposed to be fish for tea but need to get to Tesco for that, so have to swap the menu about a bit. Rissoles instead, I think, we already have those in the freezer.

StillUpholding · 19/05/2021 08:12

mc that is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen 😍

Star That

We’ve had two spillages here already this morning. Two busy shifts done and DH has kept us fed and the house ticking over. Going to catch up properly with the thread before attempting any flying 👋

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/05/2021 08:48

willow pet it, love it and call it bob?

The wool was bought for many projects, a shawl, a jumper, some wrist warmers because I am loving those but want different colours to play with, and socks, and maybe a creature.

Should keep me out of trouble. I have loads of scrappy left overs so I am going to see if i can finally master the chainless cast on, and get a new scrappy crochet blanket on the go because that is just easy pick up put down when you just cba. Russian joining the ends is the plan so I would only end up with 2 ends, the start and the finish. i hate ends

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/05/2021 08:52

I will catch up properly, over slept and feeling groggy from the sleep aid. I need to go find my cup of coffee i lost Hmm

Have a lovely day you lovely people!

foxessocks · 19/05/2021 09:31

Morning everyone!
That's so cute MC!

Sorry about your emotional day yesterday willow I have had days like that recently but I feel a bit calmer now, hope it passes for you too.

Hills enjoy your new wool and hope coffee is restorative Smile

some great lists as always!

It's dh birthday today, he is at work so haven't done much other than give him a card and the dc gave their presents but we'll have cake later when he gets home. And a takeaway Smile.

SingToTheSky · 19/05/2021 09:34

Morning folks!
Hills you could always stick googly eyes on each wool ball?
MC oh my gosh how precious is that 😍
Willow I read that as “had a shocking sheep” (clearly influenced by the wool talk) 🐑
That amazing progress with the work! Please be careful re painting etc. If the Thatlets grumble about lack of painting then point them in the direction of Useless Daddy. And if UD himself complains, bop him on the head with your heaviest paint roller. Or find somewhere else to put it.

Well it’s been a stressful start to the day here - Cagletini tired and grumpy (she napped again yesterday so didn’t get to bed until late) and DD1 point blank refused to go to school. WTF. Didn’t have a huge amount of time to discuss why but I’m a bit annoyed at DH calling her up sick instead of being honest on the answerphone, especially as we have parents evening tomorrow Hmm but he was already doing that when I got out of the shower

DH had therapy at 9 which meant I had to half walk half drag Cagletini to nursery and then it was a much-too-quick walk back to the bus stop. I’m now on the way to meet my fellow befrienders and the coordinator in person for the first time!!! Exciting and a bit scary although I do already sort of know one from playgroup.

Also arranged to see a friend for breakfast on Saturday and to have my parents visit on Sunday! Will be absolutely shattered by the end of the week but it feels nice to be making plans.
