Fledglings May 2021 thread: MAYbe we’ll keep our routines going as the outside world opens up 😊

Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

That is annoying sing. I psyche up for official phone calls. Had my consultant call moved already this week.

SingToTheSky · 17/05/2021 20:41

Ah that sucks hope

I didn’t even do my usual “oh it’s fine don’t worry” when she called today, I was quite clear how unsettled DD1 was by not getting called AGAIN. It’s getting beyond ridiculous.

SingToTheSky · 17/05/2021 20:42

Oh well at least I channelled some energy into some more decluttering (sitting in my room as quite achy again).

EversoDelighted · 17/05/2021 20:48

I have been struggling to keep up, but it's lovely reading all the chat. We have been busy with kitchen design stuff, all sorts of other stuff. Some serious decluttering is going to be needed ahead of the kitchen fitting. Getting there slowly.

The washing machine and dryer have been on more than off in the last 36 hours and we have nearly caught up with the laundry. Been doing lots of odd admin jobs, but still got a huge list. Trying to find work experience for both DCs this summer, plus looking at colleges and unis for next year. Giving DD make-up lessons - she has suddenly switched from zero interest to borrowing all mine.

Cloud - I struggles with BF DC1, stuck it for about three hellish weeks when he wasn't putting much weight on and switched to formula very happily. I did manage BF with DC2, it was hard again but she was piling on the weight and it was clearly working better so I stuck at it, and it was fine after about 6 weeks but that was just us, its not right for everyone.

Sing - FFS re social worker

Willow - your bathroom looks gorgeous.

Hope - what a lovely way to remember your late colleague

Red - hope greenhouse man turned up eventually.

Some very impressive lists today, well done everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/05/2021 21:30

sing that's ridiculous.id be raging too!
Hope love our popcorn maker.was £15 and uses hot air to pop the corn so superhealthy snack for dd2/lil zoo!
Willow I read your post but my 2hours sleep last night has reached point all info slithers straight out and is forgottenBlush

Got about 2/3 what wanted done.not bad on so little sleep
Ended up taking dd2 walk over nature reserve 6pm.rained and one clap thunder whilst there.saw rainbow too which was beautiful against the trees/fields

SingToTheSky · 17/05/2021 21:32

Thanks lovelies. If she’d had a safeguarding emergency or something I’d be more forgiving but all three times it’s been related to pure disorganisation.

Only just about to have dinner as the evening was somewhat messed up!

thundercloudsandlightning · 17/05/2021 23:03

Hi it’s clouds I’ve had a name change to reflect the weather haha. I’m sorry I haven’t been on Emmi was really ill yesterday and then we spent today in the out of hours docs. She’s okay now has some antibiotics and we’re going to spend a few days in the house. I had planned some trips out now things have opened but lots of duvet days it will have to be. I have read through but I’m exhausted and can’t remember what anyone said I’m so sorry😩.
willow omg you have gorgeous bathroom! I love it😍😍
sing that’s so annoying no wonder you’re raging💖

Don’t worry about personals I never mind if I am missed off the list and us oldn’s forget by the time we read the page.

Hope that is lovely do you ever let his family know that you always remember.

Lots of excitement here. One man arrived followed by another later as he had to take his children to school. Two men had some of it up by lunch time and after lunch they put the glass in so I am now a proud owner of a 🦏 Rhino. So I haven’t been doing all of the Fatfairy chores.

Ta da
Made bed
Tidy 15 minutes
Sweep kitchen ,clean basin
Spent time makings

Left overs for tea yummm!

Really tired now.

halfhope · 17/05/2021 23:55

Red Ed died from cancer in May and his wife died from cancer two months before. They had just retired (mid 60s) and no kids. The rest of the team know I remember him this way and we reminisce. He spoke about me when he was dying, going through the long list of staffers who worked for him, acknowledging each one. I have his photo of him at work behind his desk which is in my living room. He loved opera. Fine big tall man. Big heart.

wake up and wonder if there is actually anything that didn't hurt to the point where breathing was a struggle.
Regret not taking pain killers last night
Pack a poorly ds into school for GCSE 'not exams' exam
Ring school re poorly
Ring doctor re change in circumstances of patient
Try to track down some vaccine info I need - failing atm tbh. Only vaccine info up is the pfzier stuff which is great unless you are trying to find out about moderna thats gonna end up being a long winded phone call then.

currently drinking coffee, about to find pain killers and clothes. I need to wander down to the GP and submit the info in writing - circumventing the 16yr old thing (aka they can't book appointment, they can't give me info but I can drop info off Hmm ) Utterly bonkers but if it gets ds sorted then yay. And the walk might do my back a few favours.

long list of stuff to do but what gets done will depend on what miracles the pain meds can work. Having not taken them when i should have done last night the pain is out of control so I am not expecting much tbh.

Hope you all have lovely days.

Zoo yay to almost functional.

Redsquirrel5 · 18/05/2021 09:08

Sing great list! It

Hope how sad. Lovely that the team know and about the photo.

A rhino 🦏 is a type of greenhouse. Need to go and buy some things for it today. Tomato plants. Stones possibly slabs if ours don’t fit. Some more pots. A tray for small pots and then away we go.

Need to do some of boudoir as I have several piles of random crap on the floor. Just moving stuff around. I am imagining a bacon butty.

Zoo I have a popcorn maker. I haven’t used it for a while.

Redsquirrel5 · 18/05/2021 09:11

Sorry to hear your in pain and DS not well Hills

EversoDelighted · 18/05/2021 09:12

Hills - I asked for DS to go on the learning difficulties register at the GP which means I can automatically carry on speaking for him as his registered carer. I know from friends that some local GP practices are better than others for this though. The dentist and optician have been fine about us carrying on with me in charge too.

Hope - Rhino is the make of greenhouse. I keep getting adverts for them!

Hazel - I forgot to say yesterday, congrats on the move, grrr to the extra costs at the end but at least you got there.

EversoDelighted · 18/05/2021 09:13

x-posted!

We used to have a popcorn maker too but then found it was just as easy to do it in the microwave (corn plus a bit of oil in a mixing bowl with a plate on top).

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 18/05/2021 09:14

Hope coffee and painkillers do their thing, Hills and The Teen is better soon. I have a diary reminder to order DD's meds today, but I think that might be 4 weeks early. Need to wait for her to wake up and check!

Hurrah for better sleep, zoo and hope. Sorry life is overtaking you ED, hope kitchen is underway soon. Thunder hope DD's antibiotics do their thing and she is better soon. 🍒👋 to everyone, today is another mad run.

Ta da

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/05/2021 09:22

Like edI have D's on learning difficulties register
Hills is there something specific you wanted to know?I have the patient leaflet as I had moderna

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/05/2021 09:24

Our doctor merged with other local practices and the ones who got the phone are particularly awkward. Our practises wont register you as carer unless it is 'official' (aka you have paperwork from official department) and that wont happen for ds he is too capable. I am happy with the solution, it is just the being up and moving thing today i am not so happy with.

Caffienated enough to consider moving, thank fuck for long hair that can be thrown into a bun that no one will know if i have brushed it or not. Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/05/2021 09:27

Yeah - is there one i can have that won't kill me Grin

I have a complicated medical history that rules out pfzier and astra zenaca and I believe moderna due to its similarity to the az one. I am just going to ring 119 I think. hopefully they will be able to provide more clarification as to where i stand.

foxessocks · 18/05/2021 09:34

So sorry everyone for disappearing again! Playing constant catch up at the moment!

House is chaos but I'm using the work on the kitchen as an excuse, can't keep the house free of dust at the moment and we still have boxes and tools everywhere so clutter is here to stay for a while! We'll get there in the end 🤷‍♀️

Hope everybody is doing okay, it's a beautiful morning here, I'm a bit fed up that I have to sit inside and work but never mind at least I got out this morning for the school run.

I will try and catch up with you a bit more later!
