Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

hope thanks for reassurance.my OCD means I would prefer to clean thoroughly anyways,and a deep kitchen clean isn't nec a bad thing,right?

I'd be the same zoo but at least surfacewise we might not fret so much. A deep clean is always satisfying. You can then bake to your heart's content

I don't really like strangers in my house esp if it's not someone I know. Must be more of a sanctuary than I thought.

Tbh i would prefer strangers to the people. More likely to be house trained

Slow progress is being made. Dining room has been recovered, Kitchen is still a bomb site. Lounge is worse than before. going to be a long night i fear.

How long are the people out for Hills? Is there any pressure to get the rooms done tonight?

❤️ Second coat of paint on ceiling
🧡 Roast lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips and courgette, boiled carrots for DS3, broccoli, peas and asparagus produced. DD made gravy
💛 Kitchen cleared with DH
💚 DS3 announced he was going to meet a friend in town: this is new territory for him.
💙 Friend dropped at our gate instead; talked to friend's Mum who I haven't seen for a good 2 years.
💜 Hung 3 drops of wallpaper, 2 around the towel rail.
❤️ Took the masking tape off the bathroom and reattached the now-shiny shower hose
🧡 Took DS3's friend home
💛 Painted 3rd coat of white on wall that used to be turquoise
💚 Cleaned the paint brushes and roller
💙 Made a sandwich and watched Liverpool pull a victory out of the hat against West Brom in the ten whole minutes I was sat in the room
💜 Put away all the dust sheets and rendered the bathroom useable for toilet-and-teeth at least
❤️ Helped DH hang two pictures on the stair wall
💛 Helped DH apply duck to the bottom of the fan cord.
🧡 Ran hot bubbly bath and subsided gratefully into it with a glass of wine.
If you stand in the right place and squint a bit, you can pretend the family bathroom is finished now. As am I.

I have crashed entirely and am in bed but I did manage to get said bed clear.

People have been back hours. I am feeling played.
But lounge is as done as it is getting and whilst actually no tidier it gives the illusion of being so.
Still stuff to do though and I have the don't wanna's. But it needs to get done because otherwise tomo is going to be a nightmare. And i am going to want to do it tomo even less.

Yesterday.
Went to Mass
Went to see distressed friend on door step.
Home and put spices on lamb shoulder. Had cup of tea with DH.
Put lamb in.
Prepped aubergine, onion, red pepper.
Put them in oven later and prepped couscous
Made couscous, brought lamb out and also aubergine.
Harissa lamb etc declared a hit.
DH washed up vacuumed sitting room
Answered email😳greenhouse man is coming soon. I hear a Van hope it is next doors and not him as I am still in bed.😳

🏅gathered paintbrushes (with DD1 getting some from her room) that need cleaning

🏅folded some empty Kallax baskets
🏅gathered some stuff to somehow take to the tip
🏅hung up clean towels
🏅put clean bedding away
🏅donatable clothes into dryer
🏅got DS to start his laundry
🏅cleaned up from bath time
🏅amended tesco order
🏅booked dancing for DD1
🏅went to sleep at a sensible time (this is probably the biggest achievement of the lot!)

Had insomnia too zoo 😴 awful isn't it?

hope I abandoned all chance of sleep at 430,up at 5.ive had a couple hours and have no patience and very highly irritable,brain fogs that thick visibility is at zero.donr know if I'm on my arse or elbow

Well done zoo - that's amazing. All I got done was 'work'. I did rotate the laundry though. And ate lunch.

I like the idea of a popcorn maker

I have just noticed that the anniversary of the death of my line manager in Ireland is today. I worked for him for 12 years along with a great team. He was such a nice humane man and he made a huge impact on us all personally just by the way he conducted himself as a human being. I consider him to be an honorary father really (he and his wife didn't have kids). I'm in the same line of work now but in the UK and he's always such an inspiration to me. Anyway the tradition for me is to open a bottle of wine and toast him. Usually it's something fizzy but I only have red wine in the house so that will do. I have an interview with him somewhere so I'll listen to that. God bless him.

💛 Folded washing from dryer, put second wash in to dry. Stain still very much in evidence.
🧡 Thanked plumber and sent him on his way - WE ARE FINISHED!
💛 Welcomed DS2 home post exam - he feels it went well, and some stuff he couldn't pull out of his head he did from first principles, which is great.
💚 Collected car from garage, went to Tesco for Emergency Chicken Nuggets
💙 Cooked chicken nuggets for DS3 and reheated soup for me
💜 Dark wash of DD's work jeans (newly dyed black) and apron, put on to leak dye into each other if at all.

Now about to clear up lunch things and start building a cardboard pyramid for DS3's history homework. Obvs.

🏛️ Get online to bag places on next year's online courses for DS3. You do it a subject at a time and if something clashes on subject 9, you go back round and do it all again... Can't believe the school won't pay for an algorithm to do that!

Not at my hand! We're hoping he can fix Mum's bathroom too (which is also leaking through the ceiling, due to being plumbed in DIY by the previous owner who had some... er... innovative approaches to electricity and water) 😁

💖 Pyramid homework complete - turns out it did NOT have to be cardboard and it DID have to have internal integrity with the Great Pyramid of Giza, so DS3 did it as 3D modelling on the computer. Much less messy (and far fewer tears!).

Pissed off doesn’t even cover it... social worker finally got in touch on Thursday after a few weeks, said she’d phone on Friday. She didn’t. Called today and apologised (the reason being she’d forgotten her charger... again), said she’d phone at 6.30 today...

Still waiting.
