Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Hi ice :) welcome! Well done on decluttering. It is hard to balance that with the day to day housework though isn’t it!

ta da continued
✅replied to an OU email
✅watched more Line of Duty :o (have gone back to the start as I’ve forgotten heaps)
✅booked/paid for first parkour session
✅flattened some recycling and bagged up some rubbish in our room

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/04/2021 18:10

ice welcome aboard.if you like evading housework you going to fit in nicely

MrsTidyHouse · 09/04/2021 18:37

Blazing sun since early morning, lovely time in garden. Seem to have broken the back of some of the tasks. And same forecast for tomorrow and Sunday. Hoping to get even more done then.

Sorting through the pile of school uniform for the washing-machine, and found a jersey that is not one of ours, which was rather alarming for me. Listened to radio most of afternoon.

Now waiting for the supermarket to bring me a much-needed duvet for the freezing nights, and chocolate and biscuits.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/04/2021 19:02

tidy biscuits with chocolate or as well as chocolate?(nosey)Grin

MrsTidyHouse · 09/04/2021 19:10

zoo bourbon creams, cadbury's wholenut for the weekend, and a walnut cake that will go very nicely with a coffee this evening. Smile

shipsandgiggles · 09/04/2021 19:47

Hiya, didn’t manage to log on last night, DS was grumpy all day and very clingy so didn’t get much chance to do anything really. Today I took the kids to the park near ours, managed to make some skincare/cleaning/health products, finished all my notes and reading for my course and started a plan for my assignment. I will admit that housekeeping has not been going very well, but DH can take the DC out tomorrow and I’ll catch up. DH is bathing the DC and I’m having 10 minutes to myself, I’ve been feeling really run down today, I don’t think it’ll take me long to fall asleep tonight.

hazel I hope things go better with the house this time around!

ED most of our toiletries and cleaning products are homemade. It works out cheaper and easier for us as we’re vegan, so just better to make yourself. I enjoy doing it though I’d definitely recommend!

I hope Cagletini is okay sing

Welcome ice!☺️

Sorry I haven’t got many personals, I’ve got a really bad headache!. Just looked out the window and it seems we have a little friend (pic attached)😂

Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......
Stilllivinginazoo · 09/04/2021 19:51

ships aw ❤️❤️❤️❤️hope headache eases lovely
Tidy oh I do love a bourbon

Mc3209 · 09/04/2021 20:17

I did not know bourbon are vegan/dairy free! How curious.
Zoo I love how your 'not much done' day has a ta da list longer than my 'worked my butt off cleaning' day (those days for me me don't happen very often 😬)
Waders hugs. The only way is up.
Hope good to see you! Glad you are surviving.
Ice hello ☺️
Sing I hope Cagletini is better. Always such a worry when they are under the weather.
Ships what a cute visitor you have 😊

Ta da:
💥Cleaned the oven (finally)
💥Lolx2 - will put away tomorrow
💥Bought another bonsai tree. Why am I doing this to myself, adding more finicky living things to the household
💥Watered all indoor plants
💥Made dinner - vegetable soup

Now enjoying baby cuddles, about to start bed time routine.
🍒👋

Iceisnice · 09/04/2021 20:59

Thank you all for the welcome!
@SingToTheSky I have come to the realization that our house will never be tidy if we don't get rid of the clutter, fighting a losing battle otherwise.
t @Stilllivinginazoo thank you for the space and chocolate Grin.
@Mc3209 I have been enjoying baby snuggles too, mine is nearly 4 weeks old, how old is yours?

Mc3209 · 09/04/2021 21:45

Ice how teeny is your little one! Newborn cuddles are precious ☺️ My son is 5 months, my first baby. How are you finding life with a little baba?

SingToTheSky · 09/04/2021 22:04

Awww 4 weeks! Congratulations :)

ta da continued
✅looked up something for job coach
✅set up playstation online thingy from the Caglets’ money (managed not to throw any tech out the window)
✅put laundry away while watching LOD
✅wiped table after dinner
✅got Cagletini to sleep (she is ok thanks all, bit chesty still bless her)

Now playing The Witness with DH and DS (DD1 not keen)

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/04/2021 22:16

MC watch the borbon. whilst they are ingrediant free most are may contain traces. So your mileage might vary with them. We have been caught out and reaction had with them because of the may contain traces. But we have extreme reactions here. Because over achievers.

Mc3209 · 09/04/2021 22:59

Hills thank you, I shall heed your warning. So far I've been lucky I can eat pretty much anything, I just didn't know bourbons were free-from. Sounds like it's quite a good going allergy in your household, must be a tough juggling act with cooking.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 06:03

MC I don't have a gorgeous squishy baby .back in the day when I had 3 under 5 we coasted above squalor, but was NEVER tidy.and that was ok cos I would rather zoolets remembered the painting, playdoh, stories, trips to the park etc than mum was always busy keeping the house spotless

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/04/2021 08:02

3 under 5..... will be entering that zone this summer 😐 plus three over 5 🙁 my house is NEVER fully tidy already full on chaos may descend. I feel i should really do a mass declutter in next 10 or so weeks!

Welcome ice

Achey today going to take some paracetamol soon and make a start on the kitchen of doom. May order dishwasher this weekend, exciting

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 08:16

Oooh,a dishwasher
Clean mantelpiece/around fireplace
Sweep floor

If a question - can anyway help work out where my sparrows have gone?
DS found one dead in grass buy the pack of 9 that bully boy the fatball feeders and swoop around in a pack exciting our resident indoor Mogs have disappeared past 4days.ds is devestated

EventuallyDistracted · 10/04/2021 08:32

Ice - welcome to the thread, parent of teens here too, I remember the newborn days and being overwhelmed by all the stuff that a tiny person seems to acquire and the changes of routine, or lack of it.

Zoo - we don't have any anaphylaxis or asthma but I do get eczema (fairly severe at times in the past) and DD is getting mild outbreaks too, her hands have been suffering this week, I think the cold wind has chaffed them, sympathies and hope you find some hydrocortisone cream soon.

That - if anyone can justify a dishwasher you can.

Ships - love your visitor

Mc - do Bonsai trees require a lot of care? I used to work with someone who had them and was quite obsessed, we were looking at the ones at RHS Wisley the other day, they are beautiful.

MrsT - hope your cake and chocolate arrived with no subs. I made a cake for the first time in ages a couple of nights ago, it really hit the spot.

Sing - well done on the Playstation, I hate doing stuff like that.

Foxes - I'm sure you could do the poached eggs in a deeper pan, it's just easier to slide them into the water gently in a shallow pan.

Waders - sympathy re Nest, nutritionist etc, you have a lot going on at the moment.

Hills - hope the people are behaving themselves.

Also at Halfhope, Up, Dancing, Double, Merry and any other Fledglings I might have missed.

I spent most of yesterday shed painting again, and listening to the HRH tributes on the radio - I'm not a huge royalist but felt quite emotional listening to people saying what a massive impact the Duke of Edinburgh awards had had on their life. Then a quiet evening reading and crocheting with my cat and DD, who is binge watching Death in Paradise at the moment.

Chores-wise, not a lot, just the basics. Onwards!

Is there anyone else old like me who was taught to double space after a full stop when they type and now can't shake the habit even though it is old hat and no longer the done thing? I am constantly going back to remove double spaces and just can't seem to shake the habit. I get quite annoyed with myself.

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/04/2021 08:56

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 09:02

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/04/2021 09:10

Bet people on the other thread are wondering what your on about ed! Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 09:18

Was quick that, think about 5-6..this time last year it was 14..the Chinese are Uber efficient tho,so I'm guessing the lockdown surge has caused them to up their game!
Things are either great quality or shite,no in between in our experience!we never order anything white as tends be see thru!

I am going to struggle to get these boots off her til Tuesday.shes already eyeing up more on the website but at £100 she can eye up all she likes!they are very soft fabricand pretty on a goth way.i thought nothing would be loved more than her docs, but we have a definite rival!

Mc3209 · 10/04/2021 09:22

Morning everyone!
ED bonsai does require a bit of attention, regardless of the species. Depending how dedicated you are to achieving the specific style, it will need targeted pruning of branches (so they are in a precise location) and of leaves (so they grow smaller if the species have naturally large ones), wiring of young branches to get them into a shape you want. I would suggest getting something lower maintenance first, something that doesn't have a convoluted watering/humidity care with daily misting, or narrow temperature range or very specific light requirements. Then there is a shallow pot and special soil.. Actually it's not too bad care wise, but it's not something you stick on a windowsill and water when you remember. And yes, it can get very addictive.
Zoo oh silicon waffle maker! Now I want waffles 😬
Are there any birds of prey around your garden targeting your little beasts?
That I would highly highly recommend dishwasher. Wouldn't be without one.
