Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Hope you all are ok.
waders- hope you havent exploded from not being able to play your music loud!

Redsquirrel5 · 08/04/2021 20:54

I like 1812 Overture when I am in a bad mood or even after school stress buster.

Been a busy day here and seems to be with everyone. I came expecting more posts.😳

So I was up to loo at 7am and stayed up. I went to sleep earlier last night as I was tired. The Rhino man was coming today so up early in case he arrived. The window was 7am-7pm. He arrived 3:45pm. Very helpful phone call about 3 pm and a very nice man. Check off and put everything in shed and had a cup of coffee a bun and a chat. He had come from Ayr and had another drop on the coast before finishing.
Loves his job. Should be retired but loves driving all over Britain and seeing new places and new people. Knows the man who is putting it together and says he is great.

DBuilder turned up before Rhino man. Now have coat hooks, barometer and printer’s tray up on the wall without drilling into pipes or electrics 🙈 🌝
Haven’t finished bookcase despite spending ages on it. The books are needing wiped with hot sudsy water and dried. Covers and the top of each one. Most of the books are in almost new condition apart from the dust. Shouldn’t take too long tomorrow.
LOL x2
Made Jam buns from Baking with Granny. A bit like scones with a blob of jam pressed in. DH requested them as his mum used to make them apparently. I’ve never made them before but they seemed to go down well. Started Barm Brack.
Cleaned kitchen , washed up x2 didn’t get dresser done today but rest of kitchen is lovely and clean. Everhot clean on outside DH taking shelves to DS2’s tomorrow to put through dishwasher. DH meeting Dbuilder there.
SpagBol for tea.mmm and red wine...to celebrate arrival of greenhouse...says DH.

🍒👋🍒👋to everyone. I hope DHs and DPs behave and are less grumpy. Toddlers and babies sleep, teens eat and clean their own rooms.

Evening all,

Spent most of the day shed painting, which was nice, perfect weather for it not too hot or too cold (I'm only doing the interior for now). One side is glazed like a greenhouse with vents and lots of panes of glass so lots of fiddly bits that took hours. I've decided to only do that side and the ceiling as they are the bits that are suffering from damp, to do the rest would be a massive job as it has 4 full length slatted shelves as well as the walls, and they are undamaged and naturally beautiful (window frames had gone black).

I have completely lost my cooking and menu planning mojo. Done really well for the last year and have suddenly tipped into CBA mode over the last week, compounded by the feeling that we're all off work / school this week so someone else can do it for a change. DH has done the last couple of nights, DS did Tues, DD is doing tomorrow. Need to get back on track for going back to work next week though, especially as swimming starts back on Mon.

Red - I wondered what on earth you meant by Rhino man, but of course, the greenhouse. Exciting! The perfect time of year to get it. That's why I'm painting now, before filling it with seedlings.

Dancing - I'm trying to completely clear the kitchen table every night too as of this week, it has become a repository for books, papers, laptops etc which all get shoved to one end when we eat, but it is much nicer when the whole table is free.

MrsT - sounds like good steady progress yesterday, it is hard getting rid of the DCs makes.

Waves at everyone else.

ed I need to add to that vibe.we don't use dining table every day as often buried under sea of crap..might help limit D's mess

MrsTidyHouse · 09/04/2021 07:01

Raining most of yesterday, so no tidying in garden. Lots of tumble-drying and putting away of clothes. Discovered that we all have too little wardrobe space when the laundry mountain is dealt with.

Forecast is for sun all day. Lots more to do in garden. Need one spot for old brick, another for slabs, wood, stone, so that it can be used or disposed of quickly and easily. It's quite overgrown in places, and I stumble against stuff that's hidden.

And some shed/garage tidy too.

halfhope · 09/04/2021 07:50

Morning mrstidy. It's Friyay today! (Slumps) coffee in the naughty corner and variations of eggs Benedict ( veggie and usual) or whatever you are having yourself. A nice bit of squirrel, perhaps?.

EventuallyDistracted · 09/04/2021 08:04

Thanks Halfhope, I have been having lots of poached eggs recently as I discovered a better way of cooking them.

Lovely sunny morning here, about to jump in the shower, then I've got a tip slot booked for some of the shed contents and an optician's appointment.

Been faffing on insta/you tube...
Finally ready to face the day furry overlords are becoming very loud and indignant at such a late breakfast

Got doc ringing today as follow up joint pain etc.not expecting much.will ask about vaccine whilst I'm there as heard nothing and was told as should be registered parent carer by now on the system I should've been offered it...

House a tip

Care to share poached egg tips?I've never mastered them...

EventuallyDistracted · 09/04/2021 08:11

Get a small shallow pan (I use an omelette pan) with water just simmering. Put a sieve over a bowl, crack the egg into it. Let the watery part of the white go through, the main blobby part stays. Use the sieve to gently tip the egg under the water. Cook till it looks done, lift out with a slitted spoon.

I got poked out of my bed by the cats using their pointy stick too. Or rather playing football with a random piece of paper on my bedroom floor.

DaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

Today's babystep is to read the decluttering lesson.

Today's flightplan is here our mission is to sweep and mop the kitchen floor.

Friday's daily focus is to clean out your car and handbag, and it is also date night. Or not for those of us in England who can't go out in the evenings yet - is it different in Scotland? Do we have anyone living anywhere else here? Maybe takeaway in front of the TV night. Again.

Morning!
Thanks for poached egg advice, I must try that too.

Woke up at 8. Not too bad, would’ve been asleep by 11 had I not noticed an upset DD1 in her room. She’s miffed because we’ve said she can’t go out today. But she was starting to get a bit of an “I can come and go as I please” attitude so we want to nip that in the bud. Teens 🙄

Not sure how Cagletini is - she fell asleep before 6 last night and refused dinner, I’d best go and swap with DH if she was up really early again!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/04/2021 09:45

I have fed the furry overlords
Washing on
Cooked crumpet mountain, and sorted D's cereal etc
That is all

Is it just me,but when waiting for a call I find myself worrying I will miss it if I do anything and then waste a LOT of time waiting around?typically the call could come 830-130 so I may me mooching around doing nothing for quite some time..this will be then followed by my natural tired after lunch so my need to be productive day may not happen at allSad

Noo not a lovely bit of squirrel :( (if that was a reference to the late Paul Ritter!)

I haven’t done much yet today except sort out some activities for DS. So, so grateful some homeschool clubs are starting back up and thanks to some kind friends we have lifts sorted too. He’s going to have a new forest school, return to a social meet (which has now halved in price phew) and start parkour properly. Along with his usual “after school” clubs returning, he will be a busy bee again, and will hopefully be a lot happier. Much as the last year has obviously been tough on DD1, she has at least had some normality at school and being a bit older she has a lot of independence going out to meet friends (within rules obv) - DS hasn’t had that, he doesn’t even really have much of an online/phone based social life like she does. It also means once my training is over I can attend the social meets and actually see my friends too! This is making things feel a lot brighter :)

foxessocks · 09/04/2021 10:49

Hello everyone! So sorry for not being around much lately. Things have been rather overwhelming here! Kitchen is underway so the house is full of boxes and tools and dust. I've changed my work hours again (increased), and obviously Easter holidays means everything is out of routine anyway!

So instead of any flying this morning, despite the house being a total tip, I am sitting in a nice sunny spot in dd bedroom. I have a headache so don't really feel up to much.

Zoo I'm also waiting for a phone call, was yours today or yesterday I can't scroll back and I'm not sure? Anyway if it's today then we can wait together! Mine is from the bank, trying to deal with something which is way more complicated than it should be Sad

I have also lost my meal planning mojo! We've had a takeaway already this week but I'm tempted to get another. But I do have all the veg box contents to use. I just cannot be bothered to cook right now. I had plans to make a cake but I'm not sure it's going to happen.

I don't have an omelette pan or any kind of shallow pan like that Ed but I loved poached eggs, never make them because they never work so only ever have them when my dad makes them for me 😂 maybe I should invest in a new pan!

SingToTheSky · 09/04/2021 10:52

Getting plenty of vitamin D is looking after yourself foxes and that’s vital flying in my book! 💐

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/04/2021 11:31

He rang
My iron levels have improved and at best levels in over 3years
Calcium's low,but my vitamin d is "exceptionally good, are you a vitamin?" Erm no.i eat masses fish and am out without sun cream early in the day every day march-sept at least couple hours

Take home...calcium supplements may improve bone/joint pain as anecdotal evidence helps some and as levels are low worth a try.continue iron.take better care myself

SingToTheSky · 09/04/2021 12:17

Well done zoo 💐

I have managed to get my practical head on a bit today, after several days of BLAH

ta da so far
✅booked and paid for 3 social meets and one forest school trial for DS (same person organising both)
✅looked at parkour timetable and discussed with friend (still need to actually book)
✅made list of home ed clubs and what I’ve booked/paid for on my phone so I keep track!
✅printed, filled in, scanned and emailed student support form to adult education people for my new NCFE course
✅emailed a form to DH as I need to fill it in on his tablet
✅filled in OU disabled student form and attached scans I took the other week
✅ordered new copy of marriage certificate

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/04/2021 14:12

Well done sing
Place still a TIP
But I have ventured out for milk/bread/more blueberries
Forgot lil zoo hummus
Bugger.meltdown means need get some.i can't go tom as expecting deliveries...
I have done a LOL- currently in drier, and about add another load

SingToTheSky · 09/04/2021 15:05

ta da continued
✅delegated a bit of housework to Caglets
✅had job centre phone call - all good
✅submitted details to CAB to request a form for a volunteer admin/reception role, as my job coach agrees it’s an excellent idea :o

halfhope · 09/04/2021 16:04

yes it was a reference to Paul Ritter sing - poor man.

Glad iron levels better zoo and well done on stellar vit D. I do take vitamin D up here because we probably get so little from the sun.

Iceisnice · 09/04/2021 16:52

Hello all, can I join in too? I am currently decluttering the house but also need to tackle my housework evasion...!

halfhope · 09/04/2021 17:10

Hi Iceisnice you are very welcome here - jump on!
