Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

ED what I was trying to say with the above ramble, is check the species before you buy the bonsai, so you know how much babying it will need.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 09:30

MC there was a sparrowhawk couple streets away a few weeks ago,but could it decimate a whole load in one go?

EventuallyDistracted · 10/04/2021 09:52

Mc - I am generally more the "water it when the leaves droop" type plant owner so it possibly might not be the hobby for me. Now you describe it I remember my colleague talking about wiring the branches etc. I might just carry on admiring the Wisley ones!

Yes. we have skin issues and hayfever and chemical reactions.

Sudacrem is the only thing that helps my hands. I am allergic to most creams. Other than that I use cooking coconut oil but I am working at learning how to make home made salves. Which are fairly simple and I will give you the instructions when I have had time to try rather than just work. One thing I do use is baby oil. have shower, rub into wet skin. I dont like the feeling of slimy so can rinse (NO SOAP, just water) after application or just let dry. Just watch the bottle of the shower it makes it really slippery for the next person. I find it just helps lock the moisture in.
Back in the 80s mum was recommended medical olive oil for rubbing into the really dry areas for sibbling who suffered with eszema as a baby.

I hope you find the hydrocortisone cream Zoo there are many causes of dry skin (can you get her to take an omega suppliment?) I hope you get to the bottom of it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/04/2021 10:30

bottom not bottle

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 12:01

hills I remember my very old,but fab,g.p telling me a little olive oil on dd1 dry skin wouldn't hurt(circa 1995)
I find sudacrem drys out my skin, but I've always been very weird.might give the baby oil a try.her hairs quite dry too,so perhaps the omega a good shout as well.thanks lovelyFlowers

I was ment to be taking time out while 2/3 of zoolets not underfoot..instead I've plodding on cleaning...

Tada
Located dining table
Put away all "stuff"(lots dithering where some of it would go)
It's filthy...go scrub in mo,then disinfect

Dancingtomusic · 10/04/2021 12:29

Ed- hope you havent got much painting left of your shed. Its good to protect it.
I sometimes find myself doing double spaces too.
The tributes are lovely- i am watching the itv tribute- i never knew his background about his family. Wish i had a chance to do a D of E award- my parents would let me take part in anything. It was such a boring upbringing as I like working as a team.

Ice- welcome. Had 2 under 2....my house looked like preschool. Its much better now they are in full time school.

💣woke up- was not well yesterday. Wondered if I could have damaged my eye. Thought I may have to go A and E to get it checked. Was better in the morning.
💣yesterday sorted out ds room- carpet on show.
💣this morning- straight into dd room to bag up and hide her wooden play makeup and dinosaurs and lots of other stuff.
💣breakfast
💣ds got him drawing and writing sentances about his favourite toys. Nearly fainted as he did this happily!
💣shower and dress

Todo
💣lol
💣finshed dd room
💣try a sort bomsite of sitting room.

🍒👋everyone. Phone battery going to die.
Could anyone give advice to my on housekeeping finaces please? Could i person message anyone? There is alot going on here with hubby. So could do with advice. I dont want his money but stuck with no job at moment. Thanks

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/04/2021 15:01

Yeah sudacrem is not moisturising. But when you end up with open weeping sores it is very good at preventing infection and helping them to heal.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 17:11

Ooooh.yet again you are a font of knowledge "hills*.I'm so glad we "met"
Your jelly trick for sore throats is widely regarded as go to request by zoolet

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/04/2021 17:34

Glad to be of assistance.

Grin yep jelly trick is always preferred here too. And imo tastes so much nicer than sore throat stuff you get from the pharmacist/supermarkets.

So much of the stuff that is marketed to be really good i find it cause me allergies or reactions or just smells really chemically. Thus i find that I am often searching for alternatives to the mass marketed stuff.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/04/2021 18:01

And in the case of jelly hills much cheaper and no fighting damn kids to swallow it!!!

Mc3209 · 10/04/2021 18:01

Dancing I am no help with finances, but with the eye, if it doesn't settle, optician is a better place to get it checked. It will save you A&E wait, and if needs be, they will get you straight to the eye department. A&E docs are not always the most comfortable with eye exam and all the toys it involves, as it is so niche.
Hills what's the jelly trick? I wanna know too please 😬

Ta das:
💥Stripped and remade beds. Was planning to do that tomorrow or Monday, but I spilled coffee on the bedsheets this morning, and then McTiny had a nappy blow out whilst lying on our bed. So yes, that needed to be sorted today.
💥LOLx2. Received my reusable nappy (just the night time ones to start off with), prewasging them now! Very excited. Hopefully they will be dry to try it on tonight.
💥Almost finished making dinner. DH is working this weekend, and it's super busy for him, so I've taken over the cooking. Soup done, beetroot salad done, now I just need to make Khachapuri (Georgian cheesy flatbread).
💥Upstairs bins emptied
💥Fixed a hook for my hairdryer. Now it looks tidier

To do:

  • fold and put away dry laundry
SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 19:15

A fan of the jelly trick here too thanks to hills :o mc you just microwave a few cubes of jelly (not sure if it works with the powdered?) and drink it as is, for a sore throat. Ridiculously sweet and sickly but very soothing!

Quiet and lazy day here. Cagletini woke for the day at 5.30, I left DH to have a lie in and then we swapped at half ten. I’ve done nothing since - on day 4/5 of a new medication and it’s knocked me for six. But meh, it’s the Easter holidays and it’s given me plenty of time to rewatch some line of duty! :o

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 19:16

Dancing I’m sorry lovely I have no knowledge of the financial stuff, so I haven’t PMed, but I hope it goes without saying I’m always around for a chat if you need. 💖 Sorry there’s so much going on.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/04/2021 19:18

Ah, i just make up jelly as you would normally but instead of letting it cool, it gets drunk warm - this method works with cube or crystal jelly. I do find that crystal jelly works better if you make it up with 100% hot water so you need to let it cool.

EventuallyDistracted · 10/04/2021 19:22

Make jelly with a little extra water so it sets softly then gargle with it when it's cold.

Oh i love this, so many different ways to use the same thing to do the same thing Grin

StillUpholding · 10/04/2021 19:36

Hi everyone 👋. Shifts done 🎉

Welcome Ice, and congratulations on your baby.

ED yes I was taught to do double spacing too! At school early 2000s. When I started work I was told that it was no longer the done thing. Could not get out of the habit, until one of our systems had a character limit on reports and, given I’m prone to waffling, I soon learnt to cut them out Grin

Will try the olive oil tip too Hills, thanks. I have been slacking on the hand cream at work this week and my poor hands are all cracked and flaky and sore.

Dancing sorry things are tough at the moment. I don’t profess to be a financial expert but I do handle it all in our house so I’m happy for you to PM and if I can help I will (also not offended if you don’t if there are any offers from wiser fledglings) Flowers

Not much in the way of tadas to report. Set the DW off and washed my uniform as soon as I got home as I may have to go in at some point tomorrow too. DH has had DD out most of the day so at least the house isn’t too destroyed.

StillUpholding · 10/04/2021 19:38

I have never heard of the jelly truck but now I want to try it!

Hurrah for potential DW orders That. You need a medal for surviving without one.

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 21:35

A jelly truck, now that I could get on board with :o

shipsandgiggles · 10/04/2021 22:20

Hiya super sleepy today. DD slept in her own bed/room for the first time ever last night. She was fine, fell asleep straight away and stayed there all night. I didn’t sleep a wink😂. It’s a low bunk (built in) and she won’t fall out as the sides are high and I’ve added a bed guard just to be sure, but I was so worried. She loved it bless her. It’s been horrible and rainy here, my DF visited to drop off some clothes, so we went to the park to see him and stayed there for a while. Then we spent most of the day inside. Starting to get cabin fever now, but with the whole world😂 I just feel like I’ve ran out of things to do.

Thank you zoo I’m feeling much better now!

mc we do get some very cute visitors! There’s some calves in the field behind us, they’re lovely! Good luck with the reusable nappies! Both of mine have been in reusables from birth, I think they’re ace!.

Aww ice how lovely! I miss having a newborn.

A very polite visitor as well ed😂. I was also quite upset about Prince Philip, and seeing the tributes to him from his children has also got me very emotional.

I hope you’re better now dancing!❤️

Very few tada’s to report, I have got into the rut of just doing one huge clean and then letting everything go to shit. Pointy stick please.

Redsquirrel5 · 10/04/2021 22:59

Leaves jelly and ice cream and birthday cake in the naughty corner with Wine and Victorian Lemonade.🎂🍷🥂🍹

SingToTheSky · 10/04/2021 23:54

Ships with epic cleans you’re still doing better than I am :o yay for DD sleeping in her bed!

Hey red mmm vintage lemonade :o

Well we have an awake Cagletini. She’s gone all out of sync since having the cold/wheeze (but that is getting a bit better luckily, so hopefully it won’t be too difficult to get back on track again).

Done absolutely nothing productive today in terms of housework and admin (did plenty of the latter yesterday I feel!) - but I got lots of rest and actually spent some quality time with each of the DCs individually - did a new coding puzzle thing with DS, played with some manipulatives with Cagletini (and have an idea to combine them with the cardboard shop tomorrow) and then started watching a new (to us) anime with DD1. So it feels like a really good day :)

I tried attaching the pic of aforementioned shop the other day but MN kept crashing. :o

Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......
Dancingtomusic · 11/04/2021 03:31

Sing- i love the shop! What cute photo of your dd!

Hills- i love this jelly idea! I have never heard of it! I hate cough mixtures.

Ed- i will try the jelly mixture made with extra water too. I hate sore throats so last time I had to go down the salt water gargles- it was effective. Think jelly sounds nicer.

Up- thank you! I will dm you as I dont want to take up space on the thread. Today Dh told me he has set up accounts for food shop, housestuff, bills and kids clothes accounts. Since I stopped working he took over bills and I paid for all shops and kids clothes. Dh has put money into my account for me to use as I wish (i wouldnt feel right using it- other than to offer him part of mortage payment. Even if its a very small amount from me.) So I will def message you up. Thank you.

Red- cake sounds yummy!

Ships- awww hope for dd stays asleep, its wonderful she is excited to sleep in there!

Mc- thanks. My eyes are very bad and struggling to see. Thats really good to know!1
I will contact the opticians as i am very worried now as my other eye is acting up too. I wonder if high sugars can do this.
Hope the night nappies are great. I love the idea of reusable nappies.

Hazel- hope the sale of your house gets sorted.

Waders- glad you used your earphones 😊

🍒👋everyone, zoo, foxes, sc, tidy, hazel, merry, sorry if I have missed anyone.

HazelNuttyElf · 11/04/2021 06:46

Thank you for the good luck vibes - we have an accepted offer! I feel a little more at ease now, although more than likely it means we will be moving later than we had planned.

I do have some ta das!
