Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Morning!

That I would be livid!!

And waders I'd also be livid at being woken up!

Sing sorry to hear it's been a battle this morning. I can relate 🙄🙄 although to be fair to him, ds was mostly happy this morning, couple of mini strops but nowhere near as bad as he has been recently with his temper Sad.

We also ran from school to nursery so a bit of exercise for me (!!)

I've had a big declutter last few days, someone picked up some of dd old clothes yesterday. Today I'm taking some toys to the school and some toys to the nursery. And I've got a bag for recycling.

Just done an hour of work, got dinner in the slow cooker (kitchen is nowhere near done but is at least functional now and much less chaotic!) , quick coffee break and now off to drop things off / fill the car up with fuel. Then back for another hour or so of work.

I really need to tidy up too, where does all the stuff come from?!?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/04/2021 11:24

Livid doesn't even cover it! I pretty much lost my shit totally and completely. Anyway i have now heard from mw that i am anemic and need iron tablets, so hopefully that will perk me up a bit. But i am still no ones maid ffs!

Ive just taken delivery of half a weeks worth of food shopping and now having to sit down

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/04/2021 11:24

red love the idea of the fake bump

halfhope · 28/04/2021 12:41

orange juice is good for absorbing iron (caffeine does the opposite) that.

The UF is going to have to step up that.

I like to think I'm coming into my own as I hit the Menopause Grin

halfhope · 28/04/2021 12:45

Do you think we could all retire to a Fledglings mega house leaving other halves to fend for themselves?

I mean we'd pretty much all agree on housekeeping issues...

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 12:48

My day has been improved markedly by mug of tomato soup with bread and butter fingers for dipping, for my lunch. By 1pm there will also be cake.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 12:49

Ooh, Half, that's a plan! We could maybe just start with a month week or so's retreat?

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 12:53

Afternoon folks. Just finished training and feeling rather knackered. It was a lovely session though. I had to be off screen for a while because of a hair emergency! DS has been asking for a haircut for a while and I stupidly hadn’t got round to it (he really struggles with the hairdresser and because he still prefers it a little longer it doesn’t need to be perfect). However while I was on training he asked DH to trim his fringe and it went mega wrong. So in the break I found him upset and had to try and fix it and then I stayed off screen (but still participating). Bedroom floor covered in hair now and he’s got a frizz serum in the front of his hair acting as gel - I had to cut it shorter at the front and kind of spike it up a bit or it would look ridiculous. He’s gone off to home ed club feeling a bit better but I’ll either have to neaten it up tonight or he will need to visit a barber. I must say he looks very handsome with shorter hair though. 🥰

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 12:58

I did manage to get back on the training obv 😂 it was just one short breakout activity where I was having to shout answers from a distance 😂

Feel quite wheezy now - think I’ve got what Cagletini and then DS had in the last couple of weeks.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 13:44

It could be hayfever too, Sing - the birch trees flowered last week and I've suddenly got a wheeze and a terrible overnight cough. DH and DMum are both all bunged up.

Dancingtomusic · 28/04/2021 14:08

Passes That the shovel....

Oooo cake in the naughty corner yum...i will put a pot of tea in there too.

Hellloooo....i am back!

Rubbish night hardly slept.
Body aches all over
Dashed kids to school
I forgot i had a blood test at 9.10am!
Showered dressed
Bloods taken- it f hurts!

Been to town to return clothes that i cannot do up due to lock down weight pile on.
Bought ds black trainers that he can wear as school shoes as i cannot afford another round of clarkes shoes! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ since it was only January when we bought him some from the clarks outlet shop.
I am home and really really hurt in every joint and bone. Lying on sofa to recover for school pick up.

Dancingtomusic · 28/04/2021 14:26

Aww crumbs lost a whole post 🤦‍♀️

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 16:17

I have achieved nothing of note this afternoon! Took a quick phone call, and have otherwise switched between trying to stay awake on the sofa and playing with Cagletini. We’ve done letter fishing and more colouring. Glad DH is back so he can take over and be the nice enthusiastic full of praise parent for a bit. Much as I’m glad I’m doing lots more activities with her I must admit she wears me out a bit 🤣🙈

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/04/2021 16:32

Can I book in to fledglings retreat?
That UF needs get his head out his arse or he can look at underside of our patio paving!!hope iron perks you up,even a little bit
Wader i am happy to elbow waderettes out of the way for a slice, sounds lush!

Dancingtomusic · 28/04/2021 16:35

I am worn out sing too here and its Cbeebies to the rescue here.

Hazel & Zoo - thank you. I think its because I write like a 12 year old.
You also are picking up on the vibes that I am very short. My sister says I look like a child sometimes. A round nana sized short child. Then you see my sleep deprived eyes. 🙄

Wish I was 20 - only so that every single bone wouldnt hurt. We have just got in from the little park nearby and we have made a new friend with a young mum she is 22. I am double her age. 😁 she thinks I am near her age. I told her I was double her age. She still didnt believe me.

I have accepted I am this age as I kept forgetting and saying the wrong age! I think because I have always been surrounded by kids, school kids and my own kids...I might sound young. But thank you, it gave me a warm happy glow today.

Dancingtomusic · 28/04/2021 16:43

Oh and I never learnt the housekeeping routines as I was driving up and down the country on motorways. Then planning lessons until the wee hours to survive ...... management fools in schools. Teaching in the classroom was easy for me as I enjoyed teaching new things- seeing the students develop was extremely rewarding. But, my life outside school was at a standstill. I placed teaching before everything. So thats why I am on this lovely housekeeping thread, to embed new healthy housekeeping routines so i have time to spend with my little children. 😊

MrsTidyHouse · 28/04/2021 17:00

Been a bit muddled and harrassed recently. Sitting on my hands now, trying not to get embroiled in a thread that is triggering for me. Coming here for the sanity. Will read here and re-orientate myself this evening.

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 17:06

Aww dancing I’m glad you made a mum friend! We were talking about support circles in training today and it brought home again just how lucky I’ve been to find myself in a community (because of home ed) where there are so many families like us. And I put “online friends” on my homework too - didn’t say mumsnet specifically as potentially outing but I did say just how wonderful it is to have a lovely network of friends to chat to, despite the many miles between us all, and the range in age, circumstances etc. And how it’s become even more dear to me since covid. 🥰

Right, sorry, I’ll end the soppiness there. As you were folks :o

I really want to sleep. 😭

halfhope · 28/04/2021 17:39

That's lovely Dancing, MrsTidy and Sing Star. I think we are certainly a supportive bunch here.

Redsquirrel5 · 28/04/2021 19:02

I think we would all get on very well in a large holiday house with the menfolk looking after the kids🤣. Lots of bathrooms so we can have deep, relaxing bubble baths on our own and north toys bar the tiniest, yellow duck.

Pop back later the wanderer returns and needs fed.

roundtherekin · 28/04/2021 19:06

Hiya, sorry I didn’t manage to get on yesterday, I had to catch up on some coursework and realised I’d fell behind more than I believed!.

hills sorry about work and wasps! How stressful😮

I’m glad you had a nice day with your friend yesterday sing it’s brill now things are opening up a little bit isn’t it. We met up with our friends on the weekend and it made everything feel so much better. I hope you’re feeling better! Well done on salvaging DS’s hair!

I also see dancing as being in her 20’s. I have mental images of you all but if I was asked to actually describe them I wouldn’t know where to start!.

foxes brilliant idea about taking old toys to nursery, I might sort through the DC’s toys and do that.

waders sorry to hear of your restless night last night, I hate being woken up!

THAT I hope you feel better after taking your meds, your OH needs to step up!

It was my first day off work today, we went to a toddler group this morning which was lovely. I never went to any with DD as I was only 20 when she was born and was really shy, and they were all closed when DS was born because of covid. We have a group planned for every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and then we will go swimming on Saturdays with DH. I’m really enjoying getting this extra time with them that I didn’t have with my old hours.

ta da
Dusted pics etc in living room
Took books from shelf and dusted them
Hoovered under sofa cushions

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 19:38

Cagletini is asleep 😱 this is an improvement as although she’s been in a routine she still hasn’t been getting quite enough sleep.

Round glad you’ve been enjoying the new hours!

That can’t believe he had the cheek to say that to you FFS.

Waders is DH still above ground...?

Hope you’re ok MrsTidy I find I have to avoid threads on certain topics else I’d get annoyed!

Still feeling wheezy - I am intrigued by the hayfever suggestion, I’ve never really suffered before, only DH has, but it doesn’t feel like any of us have had a cold either which is where I usually get wheezy from. If it’s related to particular things blooming does that mean it won’t last too long or am I screwed all summer now 😂 and should I try some hayfever meds do you think? It’s honestly all new to me.

I’m a bit unsure as to what to do with this long evening stretching ahead of me 🤣

foxessocks · 28/04/2021 19:43

I believe it was hills that posted that meme yesterday about when you start sorting out and then sit surrounded by mess and wonder why you started...that was me this afternoon 😂😂
I've only just come away from dd bedroom and it doesn't really look any better. Her room constantly frustrates me, it's a lovely room but there's just not really enough storage and she tends to do things that create a huge mess...like craft, Lego, hair clips and jewellery...

Anyway my solution to the problem is to buy her a new bed, a high sleeper to create more floor space and storage. Dh is like this at me 🙄🙄🙄

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/04/2021 19:51

foxes my dd is exactly the same, is it a girl thing?

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 20:06

Sleep, Sing! Sorry to hear about the hair disaster, suspect your DS and my DS3 now match (I trimmed DS3's fringe yesterday, he panicked and jerked away from me and now it is ... er ... uneven and he declares he will have to wear a hat forever).

My hay fever only gets bad around birch pollen (April - June). I take an anti-histamine from Feb to October and use a Clenil (brown) puffer twice a day every day, on the advice of the asthma nurse. That and the fact that masks and social distancing stopped my catching my usual November and March colds have helped a great deal in the last year. This is the first cough since June last year.

I was about to say brightly yes, DH is above the patio, but he's bought a new Google Home set up in an effort to bounce me into voice activated control of light, heating, music etc. I DON'T WANT IT. This is his 3rd or 4th go at it, the technology is all shit and I am quite happy to use the switch.

That when I've finished with the shovel, do you want me to pop round and assist with the UF?

Dancing it's so sad that the actual enjoyable bit of teaching is getting smaller and smaller. I found out about the Art Deco Hotels talk by being a member of the Art Deco Society, but I also follow some specific historical topics on Twitter that tell me about these things. I'll see if there's a link to Sunday's talk I can access and share with you, I know it was recorded.

Have got to the end of the day.
Ta da
❤️ DW rotated and run, twice
🧡 No laundry! I fear for tomorrow
💛 New bathroom S&S and polished. It looks lovely.
💚 Counselling. Urgh.
💙 Made emergency toffee cake (so called because we hadn't any cake, which is an emergency in my book!)
💜 Tried to help DS3 with area and perimeter homework. He really can't do it because even with squared paper he just can't visualise it 😢
🤎 Spoke to the plumbers about change to size of cabinets in bathroom
🖤 Answered the door six times in half an hour to parcels for DH and DD
❤️ got some writing done
🧡 Saw decorator for quote. Decorators appear to be like policemen and if this one was a day over 14 I'll eat my hat. He also had a blob of paint in one ear, but seemed to know his onions, so we'll see what the quote looks like.
💛 Dispatched DS2 to work
💚 Bacon and eggs for tea

I am calling today done.
