Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

So that is ok.
It was exam day here. Survived it but forgot to check when the results would be back. Hmm
About to go tackle getting stuff into the freezer/kitchen - After I have de-outsided! bath with expson salts cos muscle spasms - yikes

And breathe. And then there will be wasp AND moth traps. All the fun all at once! HmmGrin

:o love that

I haven’t slept, Cagletini is also wheezy and uncomfortable again (what the devil do I do if she has hayfever? Is there something a 3yo can have?) so I’ve just watched stuff on my phone and I have made a plan to try some Lino printing with DD1 once she gives up her phone at 9.15.

Been writing down some more activity ideas for Cagletini too. I’ve ordered some decent glue pens for collage type stuff as crappy pritt sticks are annoying. :o

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 21:18

Hills glad it’s not a replacement situation - is the increase in hours going to be ok for you though?

It’s been raining heavily here all afternoon. Hope it clears by the weekend as DH is going on another community litterpick and this time is dragging the Caglets along. DD1 not keen but has had a strict talking to about giving up a mere 90mins of their time to do something for others :o (not to mention the fact it might make them appreciate that we do often have to pick up after them)

Right, off for some art with her. We do have a very strong relationship - I’m really glad she talks to me openly, still lots of affection etc, but I’m really conscious we don’t actually DO anything just us two (other than sometimes watching something together). So I have a few creative things up my sleeve to try now and then. DS and I have a lot more quality time since we built in time for board games (which he loves as much as I do) during homeschool hours.

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/04/2021 21:29

Sing I was on full time before, so yeah. will be fine. Will have to be super organised but in theory doable. In some respects it will be easier because there will be more people to carry the load at work which should me i am not so tired from that.

You can get hayfever medicines for 3yr olds I believe. Ds was on them at a very early age (2ish) not sure if you will have to go through your gp due to age but a pharmacist should be able to give you the up to date information.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 21:38

*Sing, DS3 has been taking liquid loratidine since he was 3. It's available over the counter, but you calculate the dose based on weight so you might need Cagletini to stand on the scales.

Dancing the toffee cake was great. Hope you are asleep now.

Hills glad you survived the exam and are not going to be suddenly unemployed.

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/04/2021 21:39

Sing my quality time tends to involve me gate crashing his gaming time to watch him play. He roles with it simply for a quiet life i am less like to demand he does stuff with me It works for us. Conversation and communication is sometimes the most important thing imo

halfhope · 28/04/2021 21:49

Ds is on Cetirizine sing - allergic asthma

halfhope · 28/04/2021 21:50

Ha ED! Well done Hills

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 23:17

Thanks all for hayfever advice. Jury is still out - not sure if it’s something else as Cagletini threw up a few times around 10pm 🤦🏽‍♀️😣 I went up and helped change the bedding etc but DH stayed with her (more than fine by me, he is much better at dealing with sick so he’s the default parent for puking kids) so I could carry on as it’s so rare to actually be doing something with DD1.

I agree hills the communication bit is the priority! I can’t overtly talk about doing this stuff with her, or frame it as Spending Time Together. Too demandy and pressured for her! I’ve had the kit in my room for a few weeks now and didn’t tell her, so it could just be a spontaneous thing. I certainly picked my moment tonight 🤦🏽‍♀️ Feeling a tad anxious as is DD1 who did actually feel sick this morning too. Hmm.

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 23:31

Well now I’m sneezing 🤔😂

Anyway here is my test Lino print. Quite happy with it.

MrsTidyHouse · 29/04/2021 07:18

Quietly seething and breathing, and getting my calm back.

Hard to believe this is only the second week of term. Feel like I could use a holiday again soon! But I've felt like this every Thursday even way back to secondary school.

Been raking through cupboards, hardcore tidying, gradually working my way through DS's stuff. He's being quick to respond to emails of photos of shirts and teeshirts. I take him his favourites, and wear some of his discards for house work and gardening.

Got sick of the mad abandoned heap in the kitchen yesterday. Put all the packaging and bubblewrap etc in a huge bag and heaved it into the understairs cupboard for when I can be bothered separating it out for the different recycling categories. Ditto with a box of bits and pieces for junk modelling. That understairs cupboard is like a tardis. I

I never know what to do with stuff unless I move it into a different room or cupboard. Then it becomes clearer as to whether it should stay or go.

Got a big to-do list for today. Starting with another school uniform related tumble-drying emergency.

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/04/2021 07:26

Ugh sorry to hear that Tidy
Zoo i hope it is not as bad as you fear

I over caffinated yesterday, under slept last night. And thankfully the pms rages seem to have past. Today is going to hurt and it involves stairs and getting to the 2nd floor. Yesterday it nearly killed me.
I should go ask ds if he needs a bath before school. And find coffee. Coffee is good. Pain killers are better. Bank holiday weekend though. So there is that sorry to those of you with little kids for whom it could be harder work, i know i will barely see the teen and it will be a nice break

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 29/04/2021 07:43

Sorry you're seething MrsTIdy - is there something specific about Thursdays that is troubling? I too have to deal with packaging today - DD's new boots arrived yesterday and she left all the packaging in the music room, then she needed to pack a parcel herself and laid waste to the study. Mutter.

Can't believe it's Thursday already. I still haven't got half the things from last week done, nevermind this week! Hope Cagletini is better, Sing and it was just a bit of a coughing-sick, not a bug. Hope you don't hurt too much ,zoo - I think I did my Pilates wrong yesterday as I am stiff as a board in my lower back today and my knees are protesting about stairs!

Today is another insane day here:
👢 DH has back to back calls, 9-8, so I will be support staff for coffee, food, rescuing the dog etc
🐱 That also leaves me project managing the bathroom, the electrician and the man coming to measure for shutters
👢 DD has her last ever science exam - physics - at 9am
🐱 DS2 has afternoon school then work, which relies on my parking the car in a particular place at 2.30pm
👢 Still client work including rejigging a family tree that currently won't fit readably on an A0 piece of paper 😱
🐱 What the hell is for tea? Something involving cold lamb I suspect. Does anyone know how to make koftas and what one serves them with?
👢 Usual round of DW, LOL, S&S etc. Ignoring the missions til plumbers have stopped creating so much dust.

Right, must get on - suspect it is my turn to walk the dog.

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/04/2021 08:19

SOrry waders but maybe you did pilates right - bastarding hardcore exercise disguised as something meek and gentle. i always hurt after pilates, the only difference is not feeling quite so knotted up

Ds doesnt want to. tbh i don't this morning. the reality of pain after moving was worse than expected. Can't stand, can barely walk and appear to have popped a hip that won't pop again to fix it --need to get back to the bastarding pilates..

Redsquirrel5 · 29/04/2021 08:26

Hills glad to hear you are not getting the push. Perhaps having someone else will help ease the mental load after you have trained them.

Sing sorry Cagletini having a wheezy time of it. I also have hay fever. My eyes are sore at the moment my worst thing it rapeseed. Is there any near you it is coming into flower now so it might be out where you are. Bright yellow flowers. I would take her to GP as medication can make you very dozy. Do children still get free prescriptions?

ED love it.

Dancing I have more time so vary between very quick to take a long time and more fuss. I am trying out new recipes so he benefits from that at the moment. Last night was rainbow trout, crab and smoked salmon with new potatoes and salad. The trout was in the cheap bit at the supermarket. We usually have veggie on Wednesday but we had pizza on Tuesday because it wouldn’t fit in the freezer.

That the bumps are weighted at different stages. Saw it on tv once.

Waders Toffee cake sounds delicious.

Yesterday’s Ta Das
🍒moved sofa
🍒dusted A4 boxes that live underneath( full of revcipes, knitting pattern and craft ideas.
🍒vacuumed
🍒 dusted and wiped skirting boards ala Zoo.
🍒removed all ornaments
🍒dusted window sill and table
🍒 put some re arranged things back as it looked awful with nothing.
🍒dusted the curtain rail, extendable duster just reaches.
🍒dusted clock and picture frames. Dust desk.

This all had to be done twice as the main vacuum cut out then later started by itself( bit spooky) and when I went to finish cut out then came back on but spat everything out creating mess and dust. I wasn’t happy.

DH did logs as he came home just as I was about to do it.

Plan for today.
Clean window sill
Clear hot spot table ( this will take a while)
Dust

Clear under the table hotspot.
Vacuum with stick vacuum as other one not working properly.
Find homes for as much as possible.

Finish painting the other side bottom of pots.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋 to those I have missed but I daren’t scroll back a page as I usually lose it.

Redsquirrel5 · 29/04/2021 08:45

Lots of cross posts.😂

MrsTidy💐 hope the day goes well.

Waders busy list. BBC will probably have koftas. Serve with new potatoes and salad. Or rice pepped up with some chopped onion and peppers and turmeric.

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/04/2021 08:47

waders pittas with lamb, tzatziki(sp?)carrot ribbons and salad,or make a quick tagine with couscous?
Hills alas it is as bad as I feared.stairs are the enemy for hips, knees and ankles
To do
Way too much, but hey that story of mum life, right?!

Best stop procrastinating on here and Do Stuff

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/04/2021 08:48

mrstidy I forgot.in early declutter stage my cupboard understairs was a liability.open door and catch the cascade!it has improved a fair bit,but is prone getting out if control if I don't check in on it weekly!

Mc3209 · 29/04/2021 09:10

Morning! Looks like tis the season for shearing children 😬 DH cut McTiny's hair using a clipper, now my baby looks like he is ready to be drafted into the army.

Zoo and Hills hope all the aches and pains go away soon 💐
Waders plates can be evil. I remember feeling the muscles I didn't know I had at times.
Round I haven't made it to any baby classes yet, and to be honest I am not sure I will 😳
Waders wishing your DD best of luck! Last ever science exam - she must be excited with seeing the end of it.
Tidy recycling is a bane of my life at the moment. Somehow we produce more than can fit into our recycling bin (even after shovel therapy), so every 2 weeks there is a mountain of recycling waiting to go into the bin that is waiting to be emptied.. I think I will need to do a run to a recycling centre to get rid of it all and start afresh with an empty bin and see how long that lasts. I blame all amazon boxes.
Sing I hope you managed to find a solution to Cagletini's wheeze.
That is UF still being a UF? I can't belive he had the cheek to say that to you.

Right, to do for today:

  • proper dust the living room
  • sort out recycling. It's threatening to take over the house
  • put away clean laundry

Basically the theme for the day is to tackle mountains of various stuff. I need a coffee first.

Dancingtomusic · 29/04/2021 09:27

Waders- i had a lovely kofta recipe with tzatziki....by Rosieandtherecipes....i will go find it!

Dancingtomusic · 29/04/2021 09:34

www.google.com/amp/s/rosieandtherecipes.com/home/2019/3/10/fully-loaded-slimming-world-british-turkey-kebabs%3fformat=amp

Its a very yummy recipe and I too serve it in pittas and its lovely with coscus (sp)

Salad for koftas
Pickled cabbage (or fresh cabbage sliced.in alittle white wine vinegar.)
Half red onion sliced finely
Lettuce
Pickled gherkins
1 medium tomato

Or a huge naan bread with garlic butter instead of the healthy pitta.
