Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

EventuallyDistracted · 31/03/2021 22:00

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

merryhouse · 27/04/2021 19:48

I like fleshers Grin. It conjures up a sort of a cross between the innocent hope of uni Freshers and the world-weary people of the flesh. With a bit of threshing/flensing added in for good measure.

Dancingtomusic · 27/04/2021 20:34

🤣 zoo!

Hot roasted butternut squash soup placed in the naughty corner. (Its turned out suprisingly tasty!) With lots of different types of bread, butters and df spreads.

halfhope · 27/04/2021 21:02

Thanks dancing! I nearly bought a squash for soup today 😋

Mc3209 · 27/04/2021 21:13

I've got a butternut squash that has been sitting on a kitchen counter so long it's now part of the family.

sing I am going back full time. One of my colleagues is few months ahead of me mat leave wise, I am looking forward to see how she gets on.
Dancing soup sounds delish!
Hills sounds like tech is conspiring against you.
That sending you all the energy.
Hazel good luck with packing! There was a time when I could pack up my whole life in 3 hours to move place. That is no longer the case, amazing how much stuff one accumulates by just living.
Waders weaning is OK so far, thank you ☺️ I am working hard at not pressuring him into eating, but so difficult not to go into 'just one more spoon' mode.
Zoo 💐

Ta das:
💥LOLx2
💥Most of dry laundry out away
💥Dinner made - hunters chicken
💥S&S

SingToTheSky · 27/04/2021 21:54

That just makes me think of the MN Stunt Pineapple. For display purposes. Mind you as a toddler DS once got very attached to a marrow 😂 he carried it around like a teddy for a couple of days.

I am so sleepy. Had some lovely time with Cagletini after her unfortunate nap though, doing matching and colouring and then letters in the bath.

Training tomorrow morning so hopefully I can get a good night’s sleep!

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/04/2021 22:06

What the flying fuck is the MN stunt pineapple when it is at home?!

Bookmarks are broken and it is pissing me off.

HazelNuttyElf · 27/04/2021 22:41

Ah I see Sing one day that will all change and this will be a distant memory, let's just hope that day is sooner rather than later.
I missed something with the mn stunt pineapple!?! I have no idea what that is 🤣
Mmmm butternut squash soup sounds delicious

Ta Das so far:
⚽️ 4 LOLs
⚽️ 1 box packed so far
⚽️ Lunch made for DH and I
⚽️ Laundry put away
⚽️ Ironing almost finished (I had to leave the house to pick up the DC from school) I'll finish that when we get back home

To do:
🦊 Finish ironing & put away
🦊 Pack more things away, mostly the decorations and pictures
🦊 Cook dinner
🦊 Take DS to soccer/ football ⚽️
🦊 Help DH take speakers and shelves down

SingToTheSky · 27/04/2021 23:44

Alas I don’t know the origin of the phrase and can’t find a first reference on MN search, but it seems to mean a pineapple that you buy for the purpose of aesthetics rather than eating it. Like for house viewings and even zoom meetings, according to various threads.

I suspect it’s one of those “you had to be there” situations 🤔🤣

Finally going to sleep. Think I’m coming down with a cold. It’s not long since the last one (which was the first in over a year) 🙄

I’ve not achieved much except more talking with DD1 (until she suddenly remembered history homework FFS) and some online shopping for various things

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 01:39

I know about the Stunt Pineapple! It makes me laugh.

DH is online with (Canadian) colleagues at 1.30am our time, and apparently furious I've gone downstairs to ask what's going on, as he woke me up. WTAF? Tomorrow is going to be enough of a shitshow in the ordinary course of events without him pretending he's 22 again and can stay up all night.

Dancingtomusic · 28/04/2021 02:04

waders- hope you get back to sleep ok. Its perfectly ok to ask whats going on...esp at 1.30am!
Stunt pineapple....hmmm....so its like a interior design thing...for zoom calls?

I also have in the past had stunt butternut squashes that got moved around the kitchen (this was precovid and no zoom calls were involved.) Now I try and chop it into long wedges, sprinkle it with cumin and olive oil and roast it as soon as possible then blend into a soup.
Otherwise it sits there as a stunt butternut squash.

Mc- butternut squash makes a lovely puree. And make lovely finger food sticks- roasted long pieces or boiled. My 2 fraggles loved it.
What is Mctinys favourite food so far?

I cant sleep even though I am very tired. Restless legs, hot flushes...hello perimenopause...i thought you had gone...no...oh great.🙄

HazelNuttyElf · 28/04/2021 05:00

Hmm, that's very interesting re stunt pineapple, I know people have lemons and limes on display too, didn't think about a pineapple. I'll know for next time we put our house on the market 😆🤣
Sing I hope you're cold clears up quickly (or doesn't develop at all)
Dancing I hope you don't mind me asking, how old are you? (I won't be offended if you don't want to say) I just picture you as a 20- something and far too young to go through peri-menopausal symptoms. I'm not sure when they start, I'm 37 and want to be ready! although I'm sure it's like having a baby and you're never truly ready
waders it really is the worst when you get woken up in the middle of the night, especially when you have a long and busy day ahead of you, my sympathies and a shovel for DH

More ta das:
🍍 Finished my ironing
🍍 Got more packing done, lots of pictures taken down from the walls
🍍 Took DS to soccer 6-3 (his team lost)
🍍 Took shelves, speakers and a mirror down throughout the house (mostly DH, but I helped)

It looks so bare in the house now, but feels like we're making progress. I currently have several full boxes ready to go to the storage unit and out of the way.
I just have to take a shower, do some yoga stretches and get my clothes out for the morning, back to work for the rest of the week.
🍒👋 to everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/04/2021 06:23

Stunt pineapple?only on MN!

Dd2 had technicolour anxiety meltdown with hysterical tears last night.i think she spends time in school holding it togetherthen it comes out fully later
I need to go to town today.on the hunt for an insulated lunch bag for lil zoo.no supermarket has any.im thinking wilko or home bargains?
Not moved yet.hoping I'm not as sore/achy as yesterday

Like hazel I see you as a 20 something dancingSmile

halfhope · 28/04/2021 07:28

waders front of house is painted but painter kindly pointed out a flashing problem so will have to call roofer to check it. #itneverends

Morning all!

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 07:40

A flashing problem?! Not sure how to interpret that 😬😳😂

Ugh I really do not want to get up today. Listening to cheery Kpop to try and wake myself up 🤣 and Cagletini as she’s still asleep.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 08:16

Hope we had our flashing fixed yesterday, so no more water leaks into our bedroom wall!

All shovels and alibis for DH gratefully received, as when he finally came to bed at half past two he put the fucking light on. I am extremely grumpy this morning.

Ta da
❤️ Pilates
🧡 Fed DS3 breakfast
💛 Woke DD and DS2
💚 Got last 2 loaves of bread out of the freezer
💙 Finally finished the Christmas marmalade

Today is counselling again, hope DH does not blitz through the first ten minutes like last week. Can't work out where all his helpfulness has gone, I'm thinking of rescinding his Helpful Husband Badge.

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 08:23

Oh well it’s a good sign that it’s only a removal of his badge and not patio time I guess...?

This morning has been a battle we did get Cagletini to sleep earlier than she would have been pre-routine (as she’d napped) but she is still grumpy and tired. Now that she’s usually getting a proper night’s sleep it is much more obvious when she’s tired!

I am tired too and for the first time not especially in the mood for training which is in an hour. 😴😴😴

SingToTheSky · 28/04/2021 08:26

po3.1
1️⃣meds and breakfast
2️⃣send message to DH for a top up shop (I suspect chocolate will feature heavily)
3️⃣shower/get dressed

EventuallyDistracted · 28/04/2021 08:59

Morning all,

Hazel - I am reliably informed that peri-menopause can start from about age 38 but it varies enormously, with some people having more symptoms than others. I am probably out the other end (early 50s) and have been reasonably unscathed but I did have quite a long spell of mild anxiety / depression symptoms a few years ago which may have been part of it with hindsight.

Waders

Sorry, can't chat long, at work.

Flight plan - today we are dusting the decorative items in our living room.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/04/2021 09:30

I also see dancing as a young 20 something, she must give off youthful vibes! I'm 33 and not looking forward to hot flushes and the like.

Thanks for the energy yesterday, i did make it to school and back. I have realised i can walk a different way that doesnt involve a hill but probably adds 10+ mins on the journey so at some point i am going to give that a go.

The UselessFucker and i are not speaking. I am not calling him a Man Child as that is insulting to children Angry basically tried giving me a telling off for lack of household things i am achieving atm. I had forgotten i was the maid. Silly me.

Ta Da
⛅ all up fed dressed
⛅ school run done
⛅ dishwasher ran
⛅ dryer on
⛅ bin out
⛅ recycling out

Redsquirrel5 · 28/04/2021 10:34

That I think I would be telling him if he wants a maid then he can pay for one! Sit back and enjoy someone else cleaning. Can you still get those pregnancy bumps/ outfits. See how he would like to carry around excess and clean. Are you liking the dishwasher?

Thanks ED I was going to blitz the sitting room today and dusting was on the agenda.

Like Zoo happy with anyone leading as best they can as not a clue about making links. Not unhappy about leaving work when I think of technology. I had a very helpful 8 year old that realised my inadequate skills in ICT especially the IWB and regularly jumped up and touched the right bit. He was impressed with my art skills😁 and I used to say to those struggling we are all good at something ICT is not one of my best skills. The fact that I had no training and most of the boards were different in each class didn’t help. Some of the older teaching staff were on a par! I explained to Yr6 that they didn’t have computers when I was at school they were😳 and our school hired a black and white TV to watch the Moon Landing. We had no TV until I was nearly 13 it brought home to them why it wasn’t my forte!

POf 3
Paint black pots ( it is dry at the moment)
Move sofa and clean under there( only to be done while DH is out)
Vacuum

Next P of 3
Dust
Consider putting some ornaments away. I hope no one buys me any more.
Stack logs for later. I was so cold we put the fire on last night.

Lunch is left over 1/2 roll and some pizza also left over. It was a DF one but I wasn’t that impressed to be honest.

I think of you all much younger than me but are grateful for joining this group. You would think I would have cracked the housekeeping by now. I do have DH though. I wrote a cleaning list whilst looking around sitting room putting away DHs shoes was one of the things. Two clumping, great pairs of boots. I am hoping he has taken one pair with him. At least I tuck mine neatly under sofa if I leave them down stairs.
Peri menopausal not everyone has this but it can start early and last a few years. I had it for about three. GP can do a blood test which will show indications. Mine at the time was a woman older than me and was great with women’s health. I had DD at 35 so started a few years after maybe 39/40 I can’t remember. It was a bit shit though I do remember that.

Right really need to get cracking. I need to take meds earlier I feel so dozy when I wake up. Ah it is procrastinating Wednesday isn’t it. That will be why!

Sing could be cold potty / toilet. If using potty could you run under warm water first?

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 28/04/2021 11:04

I have no idea if I'm perimenopausal or not, due to a hysterectomy a few years ago, but Dancing if you have restless legs take magnesium. I take 1000mg a day and I can tell when I've forgotten to take it.
