Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Crikey what a list. I’m not even upset. DH brought me a cuppa as I was about to rise.
I tried and tried to post on Am I wealthy thread to no avail eeventually discovered they had closed it. Damn. I posted about Why? And all the reasons I consider myself wealthy eg. Family, friends, beautiful county, health etc. I thought it was quite good even if I do say it myself. Some people really like to brag on here. Not this thread I mean Mumsnet. I think they were on £800,000 and she complained about nursery fees bloody hell she could buy a nursery for less than that. Some people. Still dead when you’re dead!

Wafers! I was wondering how I missed that new person. Clearly not on the sharp end this morning. Checks under patio that Waders isn’t buried under there by imposter.

Leaves 🥓🥞🥓🥞🥓🥞🥓🥯🥯🥯🥯🥐🥐🥐🥐🥑🥑in naughty corner. I am craving pancakes.

Mc3209 · 12/04/2021 09:33

Thank you for your insight, ladies! I shall brace myself to weather this regression.
Red he is doing this strange backwards shuffle now, he is desperate to crawl. He can roll both ways now too
Zoo impressive list as always ☺️

SingToTheSky · 12/04/2021 09:34

red gorgeous cupboard! Thanks for the nice ideas from school - I need to do more fun stuff like that with her, now my head is a bit clearer it feels a bit easier IYSWIM. Will make the most of the shop while it lasts (was just a flimsy cardboard kit thing) - going to use post it notes to label food with prices made up of multilink cubes.

hazel so glad you had more offers! Yay!

that good luck at mw

mc aaaargh sorry sleep has gone up the spout

Can’t scroll back so hello to everyone else! Rough night with Cagletini, she was up with the cold again but kept crawling over my neck. Hmm I feel somewhat bleary eyed now!

Need to sort a birthday card ASAP, forgot to ask DH to get one yesterday and I’m not sure I’m really up to drawing something. Could send DD1 to the shop to choose one when she’s up. Luckily I have stamps!

Dancingtomusic · 12/04/2021 09:54

🤣 Wafers- welcome to the thread- you are usually silient in writing posts but we all regularly mention you in ours. Wafers, you can be our new silient member. 🤣

SingToTheSky · 12/04/2021 10:11

Now I want pink wafers.
dancing how are you feeling today?

Dancingtomusic · 12/04/2021 10:18

Mc- i think the ready to crawl stages makes the babies abit more fussy.
I wish someone had just said to me- co-sleep- if you want to survive- lack of sleep nearly killed me- my 5lb baby in December at home was just freezing when I held his hands in his next to me cot- i kept waking up to check if he was breathing- he keep waking up as he was tiny, lost and cold in the cot. He would sleep longer if he was next to me. He was 5 weeks premature. He needed his warm mum for comfort. I should have kicked dh out the double bed. Curled up around my tiny baby and gone sleep- rather than spend very cold nights trying to get him asleep away from me.
Dd just hated the idea of cots. She never ever slept in one.

Alot of people made me cry by telling me I am making a rod for my own back by co-sleeping and their baby slept all night.

I did notice a big massive thing- most of the babies formula fed were full for longer and a breast feedjng babies needed more top ups of milk.
Seeing as breastfeeding is energy, and comfort and warmeth. I can understand babies needing warmth and physical contact to help them fall asleep.
I just did alot of reading on kellymom.com about it. Just that lots of cultures around the world co-sleep with their babies.
Personally, if you are managing until 5am and then needing to co-sleep, i think you both are doing amazing!

Dancingtomusic · 12/04/2021 10:22

Sing- 👋hello i am ok today. I noticed in the darkness i struggled to open my eyes and i couldnt see clearly.

I love your dd's shop!

red- i loved the playing shop and laundrette ideas- i am going try doing something like that at home!

Sorry spelling is off today!

SingToTheSky · 12/04/2021 10:29

Glad you’re ok today dancing but you’ll still see the GP won’t you and tell them about the night problem? (Sorry if I’ve missed it I can’t scroll atm)

Redsquirrel5 · 12/04/2021 12:18

I just found DS3 sheet from when he was born😃 I didn’t know I still had it.

EventuallyDistracted · 12/04/2021 12:21

Just popping in at lunch time.

Mc - I don't really have any advice other than do whatever you need to get through the night (with provisos re safety etc). There's no right or wrong. We didn't co-sleep regularly but muddled through, with hindsight probably didn't follow the safe sleeping guidelines completely. I was too soft to wake a sleeping baby so I never woke them to feed just before my bedtime and that was perhaps a mistake. However once they did start sleeping through the night from early evening we did establish a bedtime routine and stuck to it no matter what (not necessarily at the same time every night but in the same order IYSWIM) and that worked for us.

StillUpholding · 12/04/2021 12:34

At work but popping in on my lunch break 👋

Mc having survived a terrible sleeper (4 month regression meant a month of waking every 45 minutes for us) I second ED to say do whatever works at the time. I didn’t really want to co-sleep and was so scared of the whole “rod for your own back” thing. I now wish I’d just embraced it and think of all those extra hours of sleep I could have had. I always fed her to sleep (or DH rocked), put her down in her cot and then she co-slept from first or second wake up. Once I chilled out it wasn’t really a problem. Her sleeping improved when I stopped BFing just before 2 (which was faaar easier than I thought it would be as she understood the boobies were broken Grin) and now bedtime is a doddle and if she crawls in with us at some point so be it.

Red I love the cupboard! My HV once had to enter via scaffolding and come into the kitchen where we were hiding from the dust until after she’d been and we could head out to escape. She was fine with it thankfully but I did think afterwards I probably should have rearranged.

Forgot the rest of my personals so I’ll add this mornings ta Das:

✅ s&s
✅ hoovered up porridge oats
✅ emptied DW
✅ LOL on

Dancingtomusic · 12/04/2021 14:03

Ed- I agree with you, do whatever is best for you. Hope you are having a good shift at work!

Up- so lovely your dd understood 'boobies were broken!' Awww. Hope you have a really good shift today.

Red- i forgot to say the green cupboard is so pretty.

Zoo- cant believe how much you have done so far- its a long list.
That- hope you midwife appt goes ok... cant believe how quick time is going.

Sing- yes you are right - i need to book a docs appt. I actually forgot. Trying to declutter sitting room from lockdown learning and Easter...its a mess here.

I cant hold this in....Dh has just come down and said his work need someone...for a very basic IT role- no chance of progression- only for a year- as they are in a fix- i said yes I am interested straight away. (I am not abit IT fluent- i was 20 years ago- so this may be a steep learning curve- p.s i am not that bright/sparky. I am a slow learner/have a good go kind of person that only can scrape a pass at things kind of person. )
So he told me to get my Cv in order. I looked at my Cv...its from just before by firstborn. My cv is so teacher/school based...dh is going to help me make it IT centric....so I am pulling out furniture and hoovering instead.
Dh said there will be a interview. Oh god. 🤦‍♀️
Why does have to happen while my eyes a funny, oh, Optician appt booked for the 24th April- earlist appt.

Oh and I forgot to say...i remember fly lady before the fairy picture appeared too.

🍒👋 everyone.

Iceisnice · 12/04/2021 15:57

Thank you all for being so welcoming and for the congratulations.
@mc3209 5 months! They start getting interesting now! I have a 5 y/o dd and a 2 y/o DD so it is chaos all the time. Wouldn't change it but it is exhausting. @EventuallyDistracted no routine here... winging it, flying by the seat of my pants and hoping for the best!
I instigated bedsheets and bedroom tidying on Saturdays when my two DD moved into their newly decorated bedroom in December... they strip their beds and dust their room. They think it is brilliant and they look forward to it every week! I figured that the earlier they start taking responsibility and helping the easier life will be for me and them!
Today's tadas:
Star 2 lol
Star swish and swipe
Starlaundry folded
Star whole chicken roasted.
Hope you are all well.

Iceisnice · 12/04/2021 16:18

@Mc3209 sleep regression sucks. I ended up co sleeping with my eldest dd for nearly a year because it was either that or no sleep at all. She would only nap by sleeping on my chest too. Excellent for snuggles!
Sleep regression, growth spurts and developmental milestones play havoc with routines and the only thing that got me through the first two years with my eldest was a sense of humour and copious amounts of biscuits and hot chocolate! It is worth it though!

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/04/2021 18:51

Being at work means the people have more opportunity to do stupid shit. I have lost my shit something epic. Everyone is sulking.

Work was its usual level of shit. I have a job. I am grateful for that. I want a new job.

Mc3209 · 12/04/2021 20:05

Ice your household sounds like fun 😁
Hills 🥧🥧🥧🍫🍫☕☕☕🍷
Dancing That's an exciting opportunity for you! One step at a time, and you will get there.

Ta das:
💥Bathroom blitzed
💥Walk walked
💥LOLx1
💥DW rotated
💥Dusted upstairs and downstairs

Now going to fold clean laundry, and that's me done for the day.

Iceisnice · 12/04/2021 21:53

Grin soooooo much fun! Especially as dd5 has developed a teenage attitude since October.... they are cute though. Just need to girder my loins some days Wink

shipsandgiggles · 12/04/2021 22:03

Hiya, didn’t log in yesterday as I had a busy day doing my assignment. It was my first day back at work today so I’m super tired. I will try to catch up though but don’t have much to report. DD’s still sleeping well in her bed!

sing what a gorgeous photo of your DD! I love her shop.

dancing I was so worried that she wouldn’t settle but she loves it. So far she has attempted to climb down herself, which was my biggest fear. That’s a very exciting opportunity!

up we’ve had a cosleep cot since DD was born and then she just slept in our bed, I feel lost without her but she loves it😂

mc she loved it! I was expecting some fuss from her but I think she likes her own space😂.

I love your pics ed!

red oh that cupboard is gorgeous! I love the colour. Thank you taking the time to send me it!

zoo how do you get so much done so early!

Not much flying to report. I’m hoping I’ll get back on track soon now that I’ve caught up with all my work.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2021 06:32

Dd2 is 17 today.how did I blink and reach here?!I need to do her birthday banner and crack on.she chose most of the stuff ordered(but at least it all came in time unlike last year when nothing did/couldn't get birthday candles etc)I did pick up a flying pig cup yesterday she hasn't seen
Best get a wriggle on
Bbl

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 13/04/2021 07:10

Morning

Happy bday to dd2 zoo Cake

Yesterday was ok thanks. Measuring on track for another 90+ centile baby who is currently head down and back to back. Bit of a dead arm this morning from the whooping cough jab.

Dancingtomusic · 13/04/2021 07:32

Zoo- 🎂🎂🍰🍰happy birthday to your ddzoolet!🎂🎂🍰🍰

Waders and foxes- hope you both are ok. 👋

Red- i am going to have a skim read of that thread you mentioned. Some people 🙄.

Hills- I now plan any school drop off's walks were I avoid people. Sorry work was the usual level of shit. Wine

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2021 07:49

thatdd2 was a back to back baby at time of birth

Cats fed
Wash on
Harpic lav

Birthday banner done, criminal minds is the theme requested so hunting for cast quotes and Matthew grey gubler drawings has taken up a fair while to add to the poster...hope she likes it!

Now to wake the masses....

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 13/04/2021 08:06

Dc4 was born back to back, it wasn't even that bad. Obviously though i would rather baby finds his way the right way around prior to exit. I am told as placenta is at front this increases chances of back to back. However, i have had a placenta like this before and that baby wasnt back to back so who knows

MrsTidyHouse · 13/04/2021 08:18

I now have a proper Room of Doom! It's more a decluttering theme than Flying, but my actual decluttering has ground to a halt. It'll be a lot easier to keep up with (or even vaguely attempt) Flying when I'm not constantly distracted by random mounds in every room.

A lot of stuff is out of the sunny front room. Some things are still in there that make no sense to move. eg, storage tubs of precious things from elderly dead relatives are stacked behind the door in a corner for when we are properly sorted and have nice shelves to display them. A desk in another corner has my neatly stacked sewing boxes and projects. The mantlepiece has been cleared of jars of screws and nails, which must be kept as each little heap came from a different diy project. and so on and so on.... but the room looks so much better and is no longer a dumping ground.

Shed is back under control, and emptied of everything that had been abandoned in there. Still far too cluttered, but mostly things I can't shift on my own, or that are not mine to decide about. Garage is mostly Walls of Doom - yards and yards of shelving and two huge workbenches totally crammed with MrTidyHouse's tools and materials that are both indispensible and unused. But nothing on the floor, good!

Time now to do a bit of a catch-up in the utility and kitchen, then check out Flylady's to-dos.

EventuallyDistracted · 13/04/2021 09:11

Sorry, late this morning, got up a bit late, thought I'd pop on when I got to work then my laptop wouldn't boot up, OK now though.
