Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

I'd give myself a gold medal if i could do that in an hour.

Flylday must really fly.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/04/2021 23:00

I agree dancing, 6 beds to change here!

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2021 23:01

The door is remaining firmly shut on the spare room. Not opening that chaos wormhole and I do not care what the fat fairy says. Nope to the hell not this side of the summer!

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2021 23:02

You forget, you are supposed to delegate everyone does their own.
Personally i think she is completely delusional. but then I am a rebellious grump sometimes Wink

Dancingtomusic · 12/04/2021 00:07

Hills- 🤣fat fairy

That- 6 beds! Definately need wings. 🦋

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/04/2021 00:41

I forget that most of you weren't around for the nickname to be earnt Blush twas not me that named her the fat fairy. And it was before the website was rebranded with the fairy logo. Sorry old habbits die hard

halfhope · 12/04/2021 00:54

I read that as old hobbits and thought of Bilbo Baggins.

Redsquirrel5 · 12/04/2021 02:14

Catching up in between Call the Midwife.

Dancing so sorry to hear about your eye trouble. Hope it gets sorted soon. Worrying.
Hazel brillliant another offer so soon.
Zoo I always imagined you taller😂 I am also 5’3”
Sing Cagletini is so cute what a lovely head of hair. Very like a little girl at church.
Hills that is just like the Lakes. People camping and leaving rubbish. It has been on the news. DH had a Facebook thread from an old mate with a photo of an area left with three tents, ruck sacks, food, bottles and human waste near his house in Eden. Plus parking was so bad in the Lakes that Emergency vehicles couldn’t get through. Like Hills said parking on the road side, leaving rubbish I don’t understand why you would go to a beautiful place and then leave it in a mess. DH is going to try and finish the Wainwright’s before they decend.

Redsquirrel5 · 12/04/2021 02:31

🤣 fat fairy and hobbits.
I failed to post the above until now because I fell asleep.

Welcome ice

That six beds. Would take over an hour on its own then you would have a huge pile of washing. Mine did change theirs when they were older. I used to have five beds to do. I didn’t have the fought I have now on mine just a duvet cover and bottom sheet those days. Now also top sheet, then duvet cover, bedspread and eiderdown. I don’t clean the latter two often because they need dry cleaned. Then loads of pillows and cushions. I make work for myself but I do like look of it.

HazelNuttyElf · 12/04/2021 06:44

Sing cagletini looks like she is having fun, I love her curls!
I also found fat fairy funny too 😄 especially now that I know the logo wasn't the fat fairy when it was mentioned before. I wonder if that's where she got the idea 🤔

We actually had another 7 offers to look through on Friday night, 2 were repeat offers from the last time. We are pretty much the only house in the price range though for 1st time home buyers in this town.

Today (Sunday) was a lazy day. I did have plans to sort out the shed, pack some things up, clean it up and clear up any evidence of mice, that I seemed to notice a few weeks ago. But, it was pretty cold, despite the sunshine and I didn't really want to venture outside. I left it for another day.
I did manage to clear up the kitchen several times, including the huge mess that was made when DH dropped the big bottle of salsa. The plastic bottle broke and it splattered everywhere! I also made rolls tonight again for work tomorrow as we're having as pot luck. DS helped me. He said he's wanting to help me cook more, and loves making rolls. he also loves eating them
Other than pulling my clothes out for tomorrow and getting the rolls ready to go in the morning there hasn't been much flying done today. I even got a nap this afternoon for a couple of hours. Oh and I guess I did grocery pick up order and picked it up tonight. I had to call them and point out that I requested 2lbs of broccoli, not just 2 crowns as that's not enough. She tried to tell me where to add my note for what I needed, although that's exactly what I did do, and exactly where I put it. I will have to be more detailed I think. This is the 2nd time it's happened. So I did have to go inside to get more.

🍒👋 to everyone

HazelNuttyElf · 12/04/2021 06:46

Sorry that was an abrupt end to my post, it's getting late here and I need to get to sleep 💤😴

EventuallyDistracted · 12/04/2021 06:55

I've woken up to settled snow. Just a sprinkling but it's pretty unusual here (Hampshire) at this time of year. Just put my sourdough bread in the oven and fed the cats. Now back in bed with a cuppa and the usual cat on my lap.

Our beds are just duvet and pillows, no top sheets or cushions so fairly simple to change but the DCs do their own and we strip, wash, dry and remake the same day so it can't be done in an hour.

ed that's a lovely start to the day.your furry overlord is such a cutie 😍

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/04/2021 07:21

I do make the biggest two dc change their own beds and occasionally bribe them to do some of the others too

I have a mw app today, should be getting the bump measured etc, need to get straight before i leave so will crack on shortly

Redsquirrel5 · 12/04/2021 08:18

Ships here is DDs cupboard. I have tried to included inside but now it is telling me I have ‘no photos’ don’t you just love technology!

ED I went to a friend’s at 5 pm and they had snow on the edges of the road especially up by the woods. I used to ride up there. They are a bit higher up than us. I am surprised you had some.
Love the cat but also love your duvet cover.

Sing meant to say her shop looks great. DD used to love playing shops. When I was training the main teacher I was working with was very inventive. We changed the ‘ home’ corner every six weeks. We had Penny’s Pancake Palace and had paper pancakes, little frying pans and a Menu etc. I made it out of a huge cardboard box. Another time we had Mrs Lather’s Laundry 🧺 from the book series. Complete with washing machine and drier the kids made straw blown bubble pictures in lots of colours which we cut into large bubble shapes and put as back ground. We worked so well together and have stayed friends. She lives over my side and I see her at church most weeks. She was very upset for me when I had that ‘awful time’ and she knew the other person.

Hazel oooh That is great news, I said some original bidders might come back so glad they have.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to those I have missed. Time I got up as I have loads to do. Finish last bit of bookcase as I had two days off. Exciting new challenge and the usual home bleugh

Furlough is over and it is back to work. Urgh. Don't want to. I want a responsible grown up

Mc3209 · 12/04/2021 08:51

That good luck with mw. I am so excited for you ☺️
Red what a lovely cupboard!
ED your furry is glorious, very cosy.

Experienced mummies, I need your advice. We seem to be moving backwards with sleep. From birth mctiny always slept in his Next2Me like a champ, eventually waking once or twice for feed. Since about 4 months, he is waking up more frequently, every 2-3 hours, and for the past 2 weeks it's every 1.5 hours. Not all these wake ups are for food, most of them it's just him being unsettled. Wriggling asleep initially, until he wakes himself up and gets upset. Stroking/patting/shushing worked once or twice, but not consistent. What really works is getting him into our bed. Then he sleeps beautifully.
I don't mind co-sleeping, but I prefer he sleeps in his own bed. I am a bit of an attachment parent, I won't be able to do any type of cry it out and the likes, I just can't stand by when my baby needs a cuddle and not give it.
Now, I put him to bed in his Next2Me every night, but I give in about 5am and take him in.

Anything I can do to get him sleeping better in his own bed? Or should I just accept that's the phase he is going through and he needs this closeness now?

Mc3209 · 12/04/2021 09:06

Ment to add, hills hope end furlough means a bit of peace from Those At Home That Drive You Nuts(unless those at work are worse in which case🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀)

Redsquirrel5 · 12/04/2021 09:14

I just had them in bed. It was actually frowned upon then. The HV would have had a lot to say if she knew. Since she hardly ever visited with DS3 I didn’t feel the need to tell her. DD I don’t remember HV ever coming. I was back at college so she may not have found me in.
When we first came here ( DS3 18mths) I had a HV arrive and I suggested we sit in her car. She thought I was being weird. She sort of insisted coming in the house which was dusty, noisy( drilling stone) and I offered her the only seat and a cup of tea. It was a plank on four 🧱 two either end! She decided my suggestion of the car was better. She was really lovely and we had a good laugh about it.

They often have a growth spurt around 6 mths. Is he making any crawling attempts yet? I found they slept more when starting to move more and later on I tried not to let them sleep too long in the afternoon although it was often tempting. DS1 didn’t sleep at all during the day unless in the moving pram or the car. He didn’t sleep through the night until he was 5 1/4!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/04/2021 09:18

red in this day and age a HV would be getting their knickers in a twist over that! My friend had one phone her to say she had looked through their window and saw they are decorating, WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN STAYING?

dancing there are apparently multiple sleep regressions, maybe you blended a couple Blush

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/04/2021 09:19
