Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

The jelly method is not as effective as the salt gargle. One soothes, one creates an environment that bugs don't like. Different jobs. sorry

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/04/2021 08:17

halfhope · 11/04/2021 08:26

Hey hazelnutty well done on the counter offer. Fingers crossed.

EventuallyDistracted · 11/04/2021 08:49

Morning all,

Dancing - if your eyes have deteriorated in the last day or so I would be thinking about that A&E visit today, I think you have to phone 111 now. Opticians are, I agree, generally better than GPs but not open on Sundays. If you are near more than one hospital with an A&E, then check to see if any have an opthalmology department, we are in between 4 major hospitals and one does have an emergency eye clinic Flowers. I'm also happy for you to message me if you'd like to.

Hazel - congratulations on the second offer, what a relief!

Red thank you, birthday cake? Flowers

Re sore throats - yes, agree with Hills, salt has anti-bacterial properties which should see off the bugs a bit, whereas jelly or McDonalds thick shakes are purely comforting. Maybe salt first, jelly after.

Bit of brilliant sunshine has woken me up a bit

Tada
Cats fed
Wash on
Harpic lav
Settle altercation with scoutcat trying to dominant indoor girls.had to put him out as was getting rather arsey

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 09:02

Dancing short answer, if you have tricky to control diabetes and other problems caused by diabetes, then it can cause vision problems. However, in most cases there is an alternative explanation when there is no previous history of diabetes. Hope you manage to see someone today.
ED so varied according to geography, isn't it. In most places in Scotland there is no direct walk in to ophthalmology. And A&E won't be able to diagnose/treat eye issues unless it's something straightforward. I work in ophthalmology, and unless there is specific eye emergency walk in where you are, Dancing, I would try to get to an optician today. If all else fails, then yes, go to A&E but prepare for the wait.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2021 09:18

I got sent miles to get to the regional eye emergency department when I needed it (ah the joys of living in the middle of nowhere). Totally worth it. But i did have to get a referral from my optician. (England)

If you are with one of the big chain opticians (specsavers, boots, tesco, vision express) a number of them Are open on a sunday. Just give a call, explain and hopefully they will get you in. Going to echo the recommendation to not leave it and get it checked.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2021 09:21

Don't let my muttering about being sent miles put you off. It is miles to the nearest garage or super market too.

Nothing but fields and tractors Grin muck spreading season atm its great, just don't hang the laundry outside to dry

I should disappear again and go do the stuffs. So much stuffs. so little motivation

EventuallyDistracted · 11/04/2021 09:22

I don't think you can just walk in to our emergency eye clinic Mc - however if I was going to present at A&E with an eye problem I'd choose that hospital over our default slightly nearer one. It also has a direct phone number on the website. I don't work in this field myself but have had a couple of eye infections which have necessitated medical interventions (neither turned out to be serious but as an extremely short-sighted contact lens wearer of 35 years+ I have to take extra care).

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 09:39

ED that's nice you have a reliable system to get seen quickly. Makes a big difference, doesn't it.
Hills your description paints very lovely and serene picture (maybe not the muck spreading...). I would love to be a farmer, but then I wouldn't be able to sell any animals as I will treat them as pets. So probably will go bust in no time 😂

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 09:52

Oh and Hazel, well done on accepting an offer on your house! There is a light at the end of a tunnel. Hope you manage a bit of rest today.

EventuallyDistracted · 11/04/2021 10:00

Mc - I have only been referred there by my optician, as it has been weekdays, but if I couldn't get help that way I'd try the A&E / direct phone number. I have also had the optician refer me back to my GP for antibiotics for an inflamed eyelid, the GP told me if it got any worse over the weekend to straight to A&E. Dancing - sorry, hope all this talk hasn't alarmed you too much.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2021 10:07

MC it would be lovely and scenic if it wasn't for the fact that the whole of Noah's ark seems to feel it is their god given right to invade and treat it like shit.

Come visit but don't park in the passing places, leave your rubbish, let your kids scream and shout, forget to shut the flipping gates, trespass, block the roads, verge and pavements by parking in random places, be a irresponsible dog owner. It really can't wait til people can piss off back to their normal activities. As for irresponsible driving (25 in a 50?!/corners in the middle of the road etc) yeah. There has been too many sheep attacked and near miss car accidents to me to feel kind at the invasion atm.

Never seen so may cars through walls and into fields/half way down a hill in one year either. Means I have to be very picky about when I go out to enjoy. I predict many very early morning adventures as the year progresses. I just need to find a walking buddy who is prepared to be up and walking at 4/5am to get it fit in before work and the people descend.

Dancingtomusic · 11/04/2021 10:18

I have woken up and I can see, clearly and open my eyes! Its not grainy and unfocused and achey. Seriously struggled to see last night.

Morning Zoo, hazel, ED, Mc, Half,Hills,- Thank you all for your helpful information. You are all very kind.
I was worrying I wouldnt be able to read or contribute on this thread any more as my eyes struggled to see. I am lucky I am we have hospitals 20mins away. The advantage of living in a build up area in England.
I think its linked to the hypos I have been having over the past 2 days. Fridays hypo left me feeling like a dementor had wafted through me. (Hello any Harry Potter fans 👋)
I have been told I am boardline diabetic since i was 20. So I have been doing as much as I can to avoid - fully developing it. But my recent huge weight gain has not helped.
Going to ring a opitican today and see if I can get booked in and see if i can get my bloods done at the docs. I have been avoiding this. I hate anything to do with hospitals and doctors due to spending so much time in there with my parents.

So relieved i can see, phew. Just thought wonder if its my high blood at night?
I will get it checked. Thank you lovely people.
🍒👋everyone Up, Sing, waders, Ships, Ice, merry, tidy and anyone I may have missed.

That- hope you get a dishwasher cos if anyone deserves one- its you!

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 10:24

Hills what a pain. Who would park in a passing place?! Insane. I can imagine with a warmer weather coming, it will only get worse. How are you planning on finding a walking buddy? There must be something like Tinder, like there is for mums meet up (Peanut or similar).

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 10:26

Dancing sending you feel better vibes 💐

EventuallyDistracted · 11/04/2021 10:41

There's a big walking group on FB where I live, everything from big organised weekends away (when allowed) to individuals posting their own walks, also photograohy groups which often show dawn photos so I suspect there are quite a few early risers.

Dancing - glad you are seeing better today and that you are going to get checked, better safe than sorry. DH has T1D and has to have regular eye health checks.

Dancingtomusic · 11/04/2021 11:46

Hills- sorry x posts with you.
I can understand how people feel when the lovely quiet area is distrubed by thoughtless people.

Mc and Ed thank you xx

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2021 13:23

Tbh i go walking to get away from people. The thought of having to have people around me when i go out for a hike is one i dread. It is just I am not sure that I feel safe being out on a long hike on my own with my health situation ergo why a buddy would be a good idea. Problem is that i am really really picky because i just don't like people that much. BlushGrin

So at the moment i am taking the osterich approach to it. Blush

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/04/2021 16:04

hills such a shame you aren't near me.i get up at stupid o'clock and enjoy a nice long walk in relative peace.the idea of a walking buddy who was there in case of emergency but didn't talk at me indefinitely

Went co op with D's- forgot list
Wipe shop
Forgot half of it,very annoyed
Walk with dd2,ended up shorter than planned as lil zoo has bad IBS pain and we pop into Asda as was in the area for the things I forgot
Wipe shop
Lunch
Fold last D's dry washing(3loads of his done today)
Bag up all bins/rubbish
Sort out Amazon parcels that been quarantining(birthday gifts for dd2)
Sort the girls laundry mountains into piles
First of these are in
Littertrays cleaned
Emails with school update about lil zoo(her school link really works hard, she's sent few emails since school broke up.honestly, she needs a proper break but there's no chance switching off completely as she's always got something expected to do.i am most definitely grateful for her dedication)
Finally get lil zoo eat something today(4pm,she's got IBS pain and hasn't eaten since 5pm yesterday)

Now waiting someone sitting in car in cul-de-sac next to my house to bugger off as right in front of neighbours bin we utilize for overflow rubbish on black bin day.he puts it out early specially, bless him!

To do
Excess rubbish to spare bin

StillUpholding · 11/04/2021 17:15

I can sympathise with you Hills. I’m in a very touristy seaside place and, while I do actually quite like (most) people and I do enjoy summer when there’s a buzz around the place, the litter left behind and the thoughtless parking does drive me mad. There’s a car park at the bottom of my street which is literally on the edge of the beach yet people would rather ignore the “access for residents only” signs and park in front of my drive than pay a solitary pound to be there all day Angry.

Hope you got sorted re your eyes Dancing! Pots for different budgets is how I work. Sounds like a good idea rather than having to ask everytime you need something. I really wouldn’t worry about spending what he is setting aside for you - you are bringing up the DC, feeding everyone etc, and you need to look after your health. Childcare, a personal chef and a cleaner would cost him a fair whack!

Brilliant you’ve got another offer sorted Hazel!

Love that pic Sing, she’s a such a cutie.

Long may DD sleeping in her own room continue Ships. We still end up with DD in ours most nights but she just climbs in herself and we don’t tend to notice, but the nights she stays in her own room are definitely getting more frequent.

Ta Das:
✅ bathroom and downstairs loo cleaned
✅ all upstairs windows cleaned
✅ upstairs dusted
✅ kitchen floor hoovered and washed on hands and knees
✅ ironing
✅ hallway tidied

Still have the rest of the floors to do and a quick hoover upstairs, and will have the kitchen to sort after DH does tea. Thankfully I didn’t have to go into work today but I can’t believe the weekend is almost over!

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 20:54

Sing that's a very cool shop and your little one is adorable!
Ships how exciting, your DD sleeping in her own bed ☺️ Did she like it?
Up you've been busy today, that's a busy ta da list.
Waders I hope you are surviving.

Ta da:
💥All 3 aquariums serviced
💥Upstairs, stairs, and downstairs hoovered
💥LOLx3
💥Kitchen cleaned and DW rotated

Yet another week gone by.. Time is flying.

halfhope · 11/04/2021 21:11

Busy week ahead for me - conference at beginning, outpatients appt at end. Would rather be sitting under a blanket with a furry overlord in charge of me. House mostly under control.

halfhope · 11/04/2021 21:12

Gosh she's grown sing. Looks totally in charge as usual!

EventuallyDistracted · 11/04/2021 21:28

Evening all,

A nice quiet-ish day here, DD and DH went to archery and I took DS to football training.

Hills - I like both types of walking, not keen on big groups as everyone walks at different speeds, but I like a stroll with a friend and I also love walking by myself, I notice so much more and take lots of photos and just go wherever I want.

Back to work tomorrow so I thought I might pop some links on this evening.

DaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

Monday is Home Blessing day home bleugh - the ambitious plan to change all your beds, hoover and vac the whole house in an hour etc.

Our mission is to toss out all the unwanted shampoos etc in the bathroom and declutter the spare room if you have one (or second bathroom or whatever). The Flight Plan is here Flight Plan - it will update.
