Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Oh no double :( hope he feels better soon

Wish I knew what to suggest for the anxiety attacks zoo :(

Doublechins · 05/03/2021 10:30

So after cleaning the bathroom of sick went to get in the bath and spilt my menstrual cup all over the floor 🤦‍♀️ sorry for the TMI, so scrubbed the bathroom floor again!

Eventually dressed, tidied up, dishes, LOL etc.

Went to sweep up and the brush snapped! So that's my 3. I CBA to drag the Hoover out so the floors can stay as they are. Youngest has done his lesson so he has officially finished home learning Glitterball

Other 2 have lessons in about an hour so they are all upstairs playing Xbox, youngest is playing quietly. I should be revising and If there are any questions on coronation street I'll be sure to pass 🤣

SingToTheSky · 05/03/2021 11:12

Oh no double 😬 I’m quite surprised with my clumsiness I haven’t had such an incident

Powering through my work today. CBA to move so at least I’m doing something useful I suppose. Proving hard to motivate the boy today! He’s got a few bits of work to do by the end of school hours.

StillUpholding · 05/03/2021 13:12

Sorry I abandoned my post as thread leader temporarily! Meant to catch up and post this morning but couldn’t get on. I haven’t read through properly so hope all is well with everyone. The mission today is to take some time for yourself. I intend to do that tonight, hope the rest of you manage some well deserved down time too.

I lost a big post because MN crashed Angry

Sorry to hear of sickness in your house double Sad

I have had to postpone the pizza / movie / games evening due to more bad behaviour mostly ds tbh...I'm exhausted by it . Will try again tomorrow but early bedtime tonight!!!

SingToTheSky · 05/03/2021 13:29

Ooh. A mission I can get on board with :o

Today’s time was mostly spent studying though. Also started watching Finding Alice :o

I now have a prescription to drop off, not sure if I’ll go instead of DH. Not left the house in a while

waders that's a good idea Smile I would love a glass of wine 🍷 .
I have been a little childish and written "I don't care" on the meal plan for today 😂 dh checks the meal plan when it's his turn to cook, I've informed him no pizza for the kids, so he can come up with something else. I'm done!!

Dd did start changing her bed sheets though so that's something I suppose, she hasn't finished though Hmm ds got as far as taking all his toys off his bed. So that's actually just made more mess.

foxessocks · 05/03/2021 14:54

And I've still got the dentist to look forward to!! Who books the dentist on a Friday evening? Me apparently!!

Doublechins · 05/03/2021 15:10

Ooh I like the sound of today's mission.

Well I did get some revision done in the end.
Made cheese toasties for lunch and tidied up from that and 1 more LOL.

DS3 is currently having an epic wobbler over the Xbox. I have tried to explain that the reason he is being so dramatic is because he's been on it far too much recently but that just caused more wailing. Roll on Monday 😩

Oh and DH has just got in from work and looks like death. He had his jab yesterday so he's tucked up on the sofa under a blanket.

I have a beef joint to make for dinner so I really should make a start but instead I made the DC a wrap because I'm gonna sit and have a cuppa before I even think about starting it so dinner will be late tonight

foxessocks · 05/03/2021 15:52

waders lovely that your dc brought you tea in bed Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/03/2021 16:35

double sorry you had such a crumby start.assume poorly one is better now?
Wadersgarden game sounds soothing
Foxes loving the what's for dinner board answer 🤣hope dentist how's ok🍀

Ive done naff all but throw emails back and forth with schools

Lil zoo had to return Tuesday, against my better judgement esp as she gags easily and finds tests unpleasant so is requested to go in untested at the time would ve had test-1240.this means she won't eat or drink til after 4pm....
They will then set two lesson target for rest of week.times based on lessons felt most needed to attend.shouls any be pm there's no eating or drinking til home
They wanted review easter.ive demanded Friday and I want it noted I'm not happy with this arrangement....

Dd2 is freaking the freak someone now could easily bring covid in,as is D's
Can I just climb in a hole and die now
I'm done
For today at very least.ive been sit edge of the abyss teetering for so very long now feels like I'm in freefall

halfhope · 05/03/2021 17:50

Foxes hope you've survived dentist and will have glass of wine. Hope DH better Double. Waves to zoo and others. Have completed spring clean of living roo. Just need to wash walls in daylight tomorrow. I rejoin flylady at kitchen zone on Monday. Have cleaned and decluttered some kitchen cupboards already.

aloeha · 05/03/2021 17:52

Ooh I think I’ve found my people!!!. I hope you don’t mind if I join this thread? I’ve been following a few housekeeping threads on here but everyone seems to enjoy cleaning so I don’t think I’d fit in very well with them😂. I live alone with my 1 year old DD and I’m expecting my baby boy in June and this is the first time I’ve ever lived alone and honestly it was a shock to the system!! I used to love cleaning when I lived at home and got paid £5 a week to clean, it’s not as fun when you aren’t getting paid! My house literally looks like Gaston’s house in Ben and Holly and I’m in desperate need of getting back on track so I’d love it if I could join in

SingToTheSky · 05/03/2021 18:01

Welcome aloeha! You are among friends here. I’m not sure any of us really enjoy cleaning :o but we have come together in our desperation for some kind of system, and end up chatting about all sorts beyond laundry and dusting.

Also, Gaston is one of my very favourite kids’ cartoon characters :o

I have done nothing this afternoon. Been sitting on the sofa under a blanket watching itv player, worrying about various things. DH went to get the prescription sorted bless him - I am still very wobbly on my feet. But he’d forgotten about an interview so the poor sod had to sit on a bench in the park for an hour and have that! No idea how it went (and I’m secretly not terribly keen on the role he’s applied for...).

Doublechins · 05/03/2021 18:17

That all sounds so stressful zoo ☹️

Welcome aloeha I definitely do not enjoy cleaning at all and some people on MN seem to have show homes by the Sound of it so I definitely don't fit in with them either 🤣

Smallest has been a bit sleepier than usual today but apart from that he seems fine now. His appetite has certainly not been affected! DH still poorly but what I've heard from others who had Oxford vaccine they were fine after 24hrs so 🤞. He needs to better by the morning anyway because we have the dentist and I do not want to take the horde on my own (plus I want him to pay 🤣)

Have done a meal plan for next week just need to turn it into a shopping list. Haven't yet thought when I'll actually go for the shopping but I guess I'll have to at some point this weekend

Nearly feeding time at the zoo then all the tidying that comes after then I can finally put my pj's on.

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/03/2021 20:29

I have no idea who ben and holly are. I suspect I should be grateful of this fact.

Life is shit, people are shit, covid is shit. But thankfully there is no shit literally speaking to clean up. The rest of it can fucking wait until people stop being so shit.

I made pizza for tea. Not because people deserved it, but because I did and it was easy and lazy and no effort. I mostly want to sulk and throw things. Instead i was a grown up and sat in the car with a coffee and a note pad. I suspect I might be back there tomo. Roll on being back at work.

halfhope · 05/03/2021 21:12

Aloeha welcome!! I love Ben and Holly. Hills - Ben is and elf and Holly is a fairy. They are best friends. Gaston is a pet ladybird who lives in a hovel. Holly is also a princess who has a nanny, Nanny Plum, also a fairy. Hills you'd definitely be an elf on the programme - they are very no nonsense and pragmatic. JELLY FLOOD!!!!!!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/03/2021 21:17

I really dislike Holly. Such a little brat!

Dancingtomusic · 05/03/2021 21:27

hills- ben and holly is a really good cartoon to watch. Its filled with adult humour behind the childrens storyline. I found myself nodding to so many situations in there. I found nanny plum funny.
I am sorry the people are being 'people.' Its good you got out of your house and in your car. Sending you a hug.

Zoo- sending you a huge hug lovely. Did you catch This Morning on itv as it had a phone in about anxiety of sending kids in- most calls had parent with a condition and they children where worried about it.
Sending you a cosy blanket with chocolate.

Foxes- 🤣Menu 🤣
Hope your dentist appt went ok?

Double- hope your bathroom floor has recovered from its very interesting morning! 😲 🌊🌊 you guys are so organised booking your dentist appts- are these your yearly checks?

Waders- aww did your ds bring you tea?! Its lovely!

Sing- hope you are resting lovely esp if your still feeling wobbly.

Aloeha- welcome! Its a great place here

Half- i am bloody well seriously impressed with your spring clean. Esp that you are going to wash the walls tomo. I wiped the ceilings of dc rooms and I swear I could feel the air was lighter to breathe.

Up- hello lovely! I hope its not to bad at work.

Red- hope you are ok?

Mc- how are you? Hope mctiny and you are well. You manage so much housework with a baby!

Hazel- hope you got some good sleep.

Thats interesting reading about peoples shoe status. I just assumed it was my house that shoes splattered across the floor.
One time I had cleaned the hallway and Dh came in from work and left his shoes in the middle of the hallway. I was so enraged, I wanted to pick up a shoe, open the front door and hurl the shoe as far as I could. (I had to tell myself, not to do it. Thankfully I didnt.)

Tadas
3xlol and my cutie ds helped me.
Dw filled
Healthy full dinner cobbled together.
Dropped off books.to a friends door.

🍒👋 to sc, tidy, merryhouse, chic, chimera, and everyone i have missed.

Nap- hope you are well?

Mc3209 · 05/03/2021 22:36

Well, today was not very productive. I was tired and baby grizzly all afternoon.

Looks like it is dental galore in here. I hope all the appointments go/went well!

Dancing we are plodding along, thank you 🥰 Perhaps if you did hurl that shoe, DH would no longer leave them in the middle of a freshly washed hallway. Shock therapy so to speak.
Hope I am very impressed with your spring cleaning. I am half thinking about doing something similar myself, but I am still collecting the will to actually commit to it.
Aloeha hello! 😊 Do you know who you are having, a boy or a girl?

Ta das:
💥Made blondies (finally). Hazel thank you for the recipe, they turned out great!
💥LOL x1
💥Rotated DW
💥Went for a walk (including this on Ta das today because it actually felt like a chore..)

I am not impressed with DH at the moment. Baby is more grizzly than normal in the afternoon/evenings these days, demanding being held/carried. I suspect it's that 4 months growth spurt thing. DH couldn't look after his own son for 15 mins for me to wash my face/brush my teeth/slap some face cream on. He just left DS on our bed upstairs crying, and went downstairs to reply work emails. At 9pm.
So in protest I did not sort out the kitchen (wild, I know). Grrrrrr.

Anyhow, tomorrow is a new day.

SingToTheSky · 05/03/2021 22:40

Ben and holly is peppa pig’s younger, funnier cousin. If you were unfortunate enough to experience baconface you will recognise some of the voices. :o

halfhope · 05/03/2021 22:57

dancing MC - blushes 😊 I can't promise to go all the way up the walls but our house has low ceilings anyway! The place is much cleaner - need to keep it that way. If I practised flylady better I wouldn't need such an epic clean!

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/03/2021 02:05

I never really had to experience she of the pig persuasion. Ds was an odd small child and was done with little kid cartoons at a very early age, like the age that most are really starting to get into them. It is that sponge with a starfish friend who was, however, the bane of my existence.

I no longer watch tv, with the exception of Bones, and all 3 NCISes. It has been like this for a good number of years now. I don't even really miss it. So forgive me if i skip the small kid cartoons.

HazelNuttyElf · 06/03/2021 03:59

Not sure who said what now as I caught up with the thread throughout the day, but I'll try.
Welcome aloeha it sounds like you would fit in nicely
mc I'm glad you tried the blondies and they turned out good for you. I'm actually angry at your DH for not pulling his weight, surely he can give up some of his down time so you can have a few minutes to yourself (or a couple of hours, you deserve a break too!)
dancing we have always had our DC involved with helping around the house. I do have a chores list for them to follow, but there's not much really. Fridays are the main day of the week since they don't have school that day. Every day they are to rotate DW, check the mail (it's not on our front door like over there) and do a LOL. Friday they are to so those plus vacuum, mop and clean the bathroom. I really should do S&S every day, I did try, but it didn't last long. They have been brought up that it's normal to have chores, so if they come across someone who doesn't have chores/ no clue what to do, it baffles them! They do get a little bit of pocket money, but not much.
zoo that sounded like a very stressful day dealing with schools and panic attacks. I hope you can find some time to take care of yourself
hope you're cleaning like a mad woman! I love that feeling of having a fresh clean house!
hills it sounds like you're being pulled every which way. I hope you can manage to get some peace and relax very soon

Other than dinner tonight and clean up there was no flying from me, just the DC doing the home bleugh/ chores. I did pull out meat from the freezer for tomorrow night, it's our turn to host ILs. I'm attempting ribs, which is FILs thing, but he's insisting mine will be a good as his. His are the best btw so no pressure or anything 🥺
