Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/03/2021 21:07

FML

ExponentiallyDepleted · 04/03/2021 21:55

Evening all,

I have failed to keep up with the thread, had a busy week at work and two lengthy zoom meetings tonight and last night. But I was WFH this morning only and managed a short tada list this afternoon.

Hot spotted various in kitchen
Hot spotted desk
Declumped litter trays
Cleaned up cat sick
Anti-procrastination! I cancelled one of those insurance policies they flog you with new appliances, you know the ones, pay a fiver a month and we’ll repair your fridge-freezer free of charge.
Two x LOL washed and dried.

I am nodding about the shoe situation. We have far too many of them (can’t blame the DCs either, it’s me and DH, we seem to have at least ten pairs each on the go). Not enough room on our shoe racks. But I at least shove mine right up against the hall wall. DH kicks his off in the middle of the floor where they are a massive tripping hazard if you are carrying eg a LOL to the machine and can’t see the floor in front of you.

Dancingtomusic · 04/03/2021 22:32

zoo- i hope you are ok and I am sorry you are having panic attacks every evening. Sending you a big gentle hug.Flowers Are you ok now?

Ed- hi 👋 sorry its been so busy for you.
We have so many shoes too. Its the large man shoes that are left lingering in the middle of the hallway that make me angry here too.

Thank you lovelies for the well wishes. I stopped around 4 pm for a cuppa and then did a easy meal of sandwiches, carrots, cumber and beetroot for the kids. They loved making new sandwich combinations.
I ate bits of veg so I think its helped and I forced myself to drink 4 glass of water.
Appetite is gone.

Half - its a ladder style shelving unit to put the shoes on. I saw something amazing online about understairs storage but I havent got the physical strength to make it at the moment. I have to knowlegde but need the muscles. Lol.

Dh complimented me on the hallway looking nice- i was suprised.

Double - oh the idea of having the lady bits pic on the wall made me chuckle! Esp to think what the boys in your house would think! 🤣

Dancingtomusic · 04/03/2021 22:35

This a picture from the internet, I would looovvee to have this kind of storage under my stairs!

Dancingtomusic · 04/03/2021 22:41

double wow is there really snow!

Doublechins · 04/03/2021 22:52

Zoo Thanks panic attacks are awful I hope you're ok

The snow didn't last and we are now back to drizzle. If it does come back I'll be sure to send it off to all of you who would like to see it.

Youngest wouldn't sleep tonight for some reason so he's stolen my spot in the bed and I'll be on the sofa 🙄 also just realised I've blocked DH on the drive so I'm going to have to move my car but that means leaving my cosy blanket ☹️

Mc3209 · 04/03/2021 23:22

Zoo sending hugs.

Re snow, I second Hope, don't want to see it until next winter!

Dancing I like that storage idea.

Double snoozy vibes to your little one!

Ta das:
💥S&S
💥LOL x1
💥Quick hoover downstairs
💥Washed baby's playmat and other paraphernalia

Even managed to read a book today. Whoo! Happy days.
Now sleep.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/03/2021 23:40

dancing i beat that the person who owns that fancy system ends up passively aggressively throwing the shoes into it muttering about those fuckers...

halfhope · 05/03/2021 06:08

Morning all! Coffee/tea, croissants, fruit salad/fruit juice, waffles, hot buttered toast all in the naughty corner. Hope you got some sleep amid panic attacks zoo. It is Friday at last, not that it matters anymore. Work and living room spring clean beckons. Have already started kitchen declutter.

halfhope · 05/03/2021 06:43

Dancing I love the understairs idea. In my house understairs is in the kitchen so you access it end on, rather than sideways. Contains detergent and tins and mops. Also kitchen bits and pieces storage boxes. And shopping bags. We have a tiny front hall with cloakroom off. Then a walk through living dining to get to Kitchen.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/03/2021 06:55

We have a downstairs shoe rule, dirty shoes live in the utility room e.g. wellies / work boots, other shoes live in the hall in boxes DC have 2 pairs (1 school and 1 normal) their other shoes live upstairs. I have one pair downstairs as does DP. As there are 7 of us this is still quite alot of shoes 👞👟🥾🥿👠👡🩰👢

Dancing i love that pull out storage! Amazing. We have no under stairs storage under our stairs is the stairs to the cellar. You shelving looks pretty good too! I think i might spend too long straightening the shoes up though! 😀

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/03/2021 06:57

Morning hope

Today is our bin day and there was (shockingly) a bit of space left, so i ran around for 5 last night and found some bits to fill it with (did include couple items clothing Blush)

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/03/2021 07:15

that our bins always full with excess we add to neighbours bincat trays add to our "output"
Dancing our shows will NEVER be that tidy, like hope understairs is in kitchen entered side on.thats stacked full games and tins...
Thanks kind words, things didn't improve.ds had runny bum which set him and dd2 health anxiety into overdrive....

Ment to be meeting with some support today.they were forceful coming here and frustrated I wouldn't bend on that, given D's/dd2 hate strangers in their safe space.we had agreed on meet fields bottom road, but think I go have cancel as can't leave D's when out of sorts, and lil zoo had start headache on one side so may have full blown migraine today
I had text 530 he's been loo again(have dd2 downstairs snoring loudly).I've not been monitoring fat/fibre levels well recently so that's a possibility....

foxessocks · 05/03/2021 07:58

Morning everyone! Shoes annoy me too, we have some old crates dh put together as a shoe rack in the porch but they get messy so quickly and the dc /dh don't seem to use it, I'm trying to train the dc at the moment 😂

Zoo oh no hope they feel better soon, poor things.

I have promised the dc a little end of home schooling celebration today / tomorrow (I haven't really committed to which day because I have the dentist around tea time tonight so not sure what we will have time for) , so far I've decided on their favourite dinner of pizza tonight, probably in front of a film, and we have chocolate fingers for pudding.

They want to play some party games though, has anyone got any ideas of party games for 4 people?! The kids want to do musical statues but it doesn't really work with only us 😂

They also want to go to the park today but I've reminded dd she does actually have to do school work today, we're not quite finished yet! So we'll do that tomorrow.

Looks like it's going to be a nice day here (definitely no snow but I'll take sunshine instead!)

waders hormones are likely part of the problem, approaching "a certain age" has increased my anxiety overall a fair bitand probably prolonged high levels of stress

I really have a nasty case CBA today....

ExponentiallyDepleted · 05/03/2021 08:37

I wouldn't manage with just one pair of shoes downstairs That. Over the course of a week I wear at least half a dozen different pairs, usually at least two a day, especially at this time of year when it can be sandals one minute, boots the next. We haven't got much storage space for them upstairs either. Our understairs is in the middle room of our house (Victorian terrace with stairs going across between front and middle rooms). The boiler is there, plus lots of shelving and cat litter trays at the bottom (we leave the door ajar). Also a scooter store.

SingToTheSky · 05/03/2021 08:43

We need open access too. This is our boring shoe rack - I railed against it when DH wanted to get one but it’s definitely helped. We are both butterflies according to the clutterbug quiz, so an out of sight storage system doesn’t seem to work for us. Still have the odd “and WHERE do your shoes go [usually DD1” but it’s definitely better than before. Maybe one day we will upgrade to something prettier!

We have a similar concept for our wardrobe. It’s more of a metal frame with hanging rails and wire drawers. Not pretty but it seems to work much better for us (as well as being the affordable option at the time).

I managed an early night and Cagletini slept in her own bed until 5.30am!!! I woke up several times though Hmm. I hate to jinx it but we seem to be gradually getting her routine more sorted.

Would Epsom salt baths occasionally, help with anxiety zoo? Good way to get magnesium through your skin. I am of a certain age too. Big birthday in two months 😳😁

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/03/2021 09:02

sing snap!same as ours not pretty but not bulkyand in theory should've tidy up the space .
Hope I have a big birthday next autumn, one more left in this decade

Doublechins · 05/03/2021 09:07

Well my morning routine has gone tits up because youngest started throwing up. So I've cleaned that up and scrubbed the bathroom. DC are dressed or redressed in DS4 case. Now I need to quickly get bathed and dressed before DS3 lesson at 9.40.
