Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Ships- what a beautiful photo- I thought it was a painting it was so pretty. Breastmilk frozen cubes are a great idea!
My son was born a 5lb and dropped to 4lb in the first few days- low breastmilk production- 5weeks early baby and csection. He was so tiny- but I adored him! I love chunky babies and thought mine would be too!

Mc- I think its a great idea to get nursing chair. I still wish I had bought one, now as I would love to sit in it to read bedtime stories. Plus I spent 3 years on the trot breastfeeding, ds then dd. I wish I had got a comfy chair.

Dancingtomusic · 29/03/2021 21:47

Sing- weldone for a having a really goid session today. Hope your dh is enjoying the Easter bunny costume!
Hills- hope you got to finish your kitchen.
Double- hope your shift was ok. I cant scroll back. Did you get all the lunches made? I dont know how you do it!

He’s not keen on creative tasks usually (unless it’s Lego!) - but he enjoyed sketching a poster so I’m calling it a win! We’ve not done anything projecty for weeks so it was nice to be spontaneous.

I’ve achieved nothing else today though. I have finished watching Unforgotten and now I believe it’s ice cream o’clock!

Redsquirrel5 · 30/03/2021 01:50

Ships a beautiful scene. Sounds like you had a lovely time.

Hi, eyesight is a lot better and headache is just that thick head feeling. I tried to have little and often to eat, though when it first came on I had had porridge 7:45 and felt sick so managed a hot cross bun at 12 then nothing until 4pm when I had a lamb sandwich and a biscuit. Had 1/2 baked potato and some southern chicken with broccoli. Had a tea and a piece of biscuit slice. It is a biscuit base, should have been peppermint but I had decluttered it last month or so so I put rose water in and then dark vegan chocolate on top. It tastes like a Chocolate Turkish Delight! DH liked it. Painter coming tomorrow. I didn’t feel up to making cake and this was easy and in stages.

Sorted and trimmed and decluttered a few gardening, travel and knitting patterns pile tonight.
I have to be up early. Damn.

Can’t sleep, won’t sleep.

Hens got out today minxes. Hope they didn’t eat rat poison as I keeping telling DH to make sure it is under the shed. It must be stinking in the rat run. Luckily we can’t smell it. The girls can come out of lockdown on the 31st March. They will be so happy. I am going to try and rig up a tunnel to a movable pen. Need to check out B&M or some other cheap place for veg covers. As they are Bantys they are small. I got four eggs today. DH says he collected them all yesterday morning which means they lay 6 yesterday. I am running out of room..

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/03/2021 08:10

Egg casserole could be your thing Red it is an American thing and basically a large crustless quiche. But it went down a storm when I made it here last year. For 4 people i use about 8-10 eggs depending on whether I am cooking 1 meal and more than 1 person left overs.
I just chopped up and shoved in leek (you can use onion) courgette, mushroom. some bacon bits, and I pretty certain some other veg. Some people throw in things like peppers etc. If you are interested I could probably find the video I used to make it the first time. tbh I probably need to find that video again because I don't think i wrote the recipe down because of course I am going to remember it. Not

Sorry flying through. It is a hugely what the hell were you thinking when you made that decision kinda day.

Morning!

StillUpholding · 30/03/2021 08:15

Hope you make it through the day in one piece Hills!

Must have cross posted yesterday. Not long at all That! And your ta da list was impressive. Glad therapy went well Sing.

Lovely photo Ship.

Not much to report here, except DH found the Easter eggs and I ended up having to help him declutter one Blush

It’s planning day today, and the mission is a detailed vacuuming session in the living room. Try and contain yourselves ladies.

Just realised it’s 1st April on Thursday Shock. What exactly happened to March? Are there any volunteers to take on April thread leading?

OP posts:
Dancingtomusic · 30/03/2021 08:28

Up- what! Its going to be April the 1st on Thursday?! April has come around fast!

Mc3209 · 30/03/2021 08:40

Thanks, everyone! I've officially started nursery chair shopping. Woo!
Still in bed. Need to get up soon. Need to do some housework today.

I am going to shy away from leading yet again, I am not sure I can give it attention it deserves with a wee baby on my hands. I will pluck up the courage one day.

I’m never prepared for a new month 😂

Just did the second autism workshop thingy, knackered now! Similar to last week in that it was good but not particularly informative. Met someone who I think is new to home ed though and she asked me to message her so that’s nice :)

Good luck with counselling prep waders hope it’s not too onerous but I am always around if you need a debrief 💐

Just had a phone call from a social worker saying they’re about to go into school to talked to DD1 with a police officer too. Been waiting since last week for them to get in touch about the report, and now we get this with literally 20min notice?!

They know she’s autistic and I was at least able to explain a bit more about what she’s said to us but FFS springing it on her (or us so we could reassure her) is not especially autism friendly is it 😭. Maybe it’s policy to not give notice or have parents there in case of influence or something, but actually when I had to do this about a family member they came to my house and made me talk in front of my parents Hmm so it apparently wasn’t a problem then Confused

Sorry I’m waffling now I’m just in bits I can’t be with her, she’s going to be so scared 😭

Dancingtomusic · 30/03/2021 15:40

Sing- oh.no!! I have just seen this! Can you go to the school and say you want to be present? If you cant, I am sure the school will do everything they can to make sure your dd is comfortable in talking. I hope it all is ok.
I hope you both are ok?

SingToTheSky · 30/03/2021 16:02

Wasn’t given the option! It would’ve taken longer to get there anyway. The SW said she’d phone me as soon as they were done so I’ve been sitting worrying they were STILL in there, but just checked find my iPhone (Caglets’ phones are linked to mine) and saw she’d already left. She’d arranged a picnic with a few friends to celebrate the rules changing. So I’m pleased she’s hopefully going to have a nice afternoon at the park now but I can’t believe they didn’t call me like they said 🤬

SingToTheSky · 30/03/2021 16:03

The SW I mean, I don’t expect DD1 to phone me. DD1 said she thinks she’s ok, will just have to see tonight :(

Dancingtomusic · 30/03/2021 18:11

Sing- the social worker should ring a parent when they say they would call.
I am glad your dd is ok. Hope she is ok tonight too.

SingToTheSky · 30/03/2021 19:29

She seems to be ok now as she had a nice time with her friends after but she said it was horrible. She had no warning, they just made her go with them at the end of a lesson, and the teacher who went in with her was one she didn’t even know. And now she’s freaking out that they’ve said they’re coming to our house, no idea when - today? Next week? When they decide to, with a 20 minute warning?

I’ve left a voicemail but I suppose nothing will happen until tomorrow now. I don’t “angry cry” very often but I’m hiding in my room for a bit. I get they’re swamped I just wish it was handled better :(

Needless to say I have done no flying

shipsandgiggles · 30/03/2021 20:00

Today has been beautiful! One set of my grandparents came down to see us, they were here at 7 and didn’t go until 6!. We made an underwater viewer and went on a walk with the little ones and they had a look in the rivers with it. We had another picnnic and then a BBQ in our garden. DD has been a little gobshite😂, she’s definitely getting to terrible 2’s god help us!

dancing thank you! I love where we live we can get some gorgeous photos. Aww your DS was so tiny! I was really worried I’d have a tiny baby as my DSis was 5lbs 11oz at birth and I was too scared to hold her because she seemed so delicate!.

Thank you waders! History homework sounds really fun! Yesterday sounds like it was a very busy day for you! Today seems just as busy too! Good luck with counselling prep

We did red everything is so much better when the weathers nice!. Glad to hear you’re feeling better!

Very exciting mc I love a good shop!

sing that’s awful! I hope your DD is okay now, they have handled that very poorly!

DC are in bed, DH and I are having a cuppa. DD keeps coming out of bed, so far she needs a drink, is hungry, is too warm, too cold😂 any excuse to not go to sleep!. She’s on her tablet now, I caved and let her watch some cartoons hopefully that will send her sleep!.
Back later with my ta da’s

ExponentiallyDepleted · 30/03/2021 21:51

Evening all,

Ships - hello, we haven't spoken, I am enjoying hearing about your boating life. Not sure whereabouts you are, but I am in a part of the country with chalk streams and have taken a couple of lovely photos today too - I had to take DD somewhere and stopped on the way to take in the beauty of the river.

Sing - more hugs from me, that must have all been pretty upsetting. Your DD has done well to cope with such a sudden and distressing visit.

Waders - well done DS2 and well done you with a mammoth list today.

Mc - I always wanted one of those proper nursing chairs. We were a bit short of space (and money) so I had an Ikea Poang chair which was very well loved, but had to make way when DD moved from cot bed to big bed, it has ended up in FIL's conservatory.

Up - I don't mind doing April if no one else is feeling up to it.

So, I had an impromptu day off work today (my workplace is very good about this). My DCs broke up from school on Friday, so I took DD to her friends (near the river) house. Came back, met a friend for coffee in the park. Lunch and picked DD up again. Coffee with another friend in her back garden. Home for dinner then took DS to football which started back tonight, more chat with other parents. The most sociable day I have had in a long time and all legal. The weather has been glorious and I got 3xLOL dry on the line. Plus a bit of decluttering, all in all a good day. Back to work tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 30/03/2021 22:44

Thanks folks 💐 got a reply at last and the SW (no police) will be here tomorrow evening. She’s really angry about it, doesn’t want to be home in time. But not being here for it would be worse really and drag it out more.

Appreciate everyone’s support I’ve been a bit of a mess today!💐

Argh crap just realised I haven’t done my homework for training either. Was just about to do it when the initial phone call happened. 🤦🏽‍♀️

StillUpholding · 31/03/2021 07:51

Morning.

Sing Flowers for you and DD. Sorry she’s having to go through this

Gorgeous view ED. Thank you for offering to do April. I could have done it at a push but I’ve got a few extra waiting list clinics coming up so the leadership would have been even more sloppy than this month Grin

Waders massive well done to DS! That’s an epic improvement. Excellent TaDa-ing. It’s too late now but I love leftover roast chicken in a curry, or we do it in a chow mein type thing too.

Hope all is ok Zoo if you’re lurking (I’m sure you said you may log off for a bit so hope you’re just taking a break) Flowers

Don’t worry about thread leading until you feel able Mc. I was also going to suggest an IKEA poang. My friend has one and I planned to get one as a nursing chair as I find it so comfy (back in the days I could go into her house and rock away with a glass of wine Sad). PIL kindly bought us an old fashioned wooden rocking chair instead, which looked lovely in the nursery but alas is not comfortable in the slightest.

Waves to Hills, Dancing, Red, Hazel, Hope, That, Ships,Tidy, Double, Foxes, Merry (and Chic and SC if you happen to be lurking). I feel like I am forgetting someone, sorry!

I am very proud of myself this morning. For the first time in I can’t remember how long, I woke up and ... went for a run Shock. It was such a beautiful morning and the sea was so calm. I struggled though. I think I’m probably a stone heavier than when I last ran and my big bum hurt as it wobbled Blush so I did more power walking than running. Still, that’s the first one done.

Plans today: my DDad is meeting us for a walk which will be lovely. Will do a bit of zone cleaning at some point and a general tidy. Don’t think there’s anything else I need to get done although I do have a nagging feeling I’m forgetting something. Right, on with the day, back later.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 31/03/2021 08:15

Morning all!
Ache a lot this morning so haven’t got up yet. DH is downstairs attempting to finish an Easter bonnet for nursery with Cagletini 😁 rather glad he took on that task. It’s the end of term party today which means she doesn’t start until 10.30.

Training in just over an hour, I need to shower and do my homework, too sleepy last night! Then I have a phone call from my work coach (the autism charity one not the jobcentre one) which I’m really looking forward to as I have loads to catch her up on and we can really move forward now.

Bit nervous about this evening although TBH at least I’ll actually be there and can ask WTF is happening and when.

And I have to say it’s quite refreshing not to also be panicking about the state of the house. I know she’s not coming to see the house anyway of course but in the past there would have been a big stash ‘n’ dash needed! We will have a bit of a spruce up in the living room and hallway and sweep/vacuum earlier than normal, but that’s it.
