Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Hope the ribs go ok Hazel! I try and get Dd involved in helping round the house, and we always had chores as DC.

Sorry things are still shit Zoo and Hills Flowers

Foxes I had a nightmare with DD’s behaviour a week or so ago then she’s been an angel this week. Weird how they can be so different on different days isn’t it. Hope today is better and you manage to have your celebration tonight. No suggestions for party games, but I’m sure you can play games on Alexa if you have one - musical statues etc where she randomly stops the music so you don’t need one of you controlling it. I also have a memory of the 5 of us doing a conga round the house once and thinking it was hilarious. My DM wasn’t often silly like that so we loved it.

Dancing that under stairs storage is fabulous, but I agree with Hills. I think shoes been dumped in the hall would be even more annoying if I had that thing of beauty sat there. Your shelves are a good idea though. We are possibly going to add a porch when we do our extension. It’ll be no tidier but at least it’ll be behind a door so the hall can be nice.

Welcome Aloeha! I have no idea what gave you the impression we aren’t fans of cleaning though? We are clearly domestic goddesses! na you’re right, you’ll fit in great

Anyway, we appear to have made it through the week despite illness, difficult DC, unhelpful
DHs, and all the things the universe has thrown at us. Happy Saturday!

I’ll be bleurghing the downstairs this morning, sorting some financial stuff and some forms that need sent off, and then probably a good long walk this afternoon. I’m doing a dry March to help kickstart some weight loss so will have to think of an alternative to my usual glass of wine or gin tonight.

S’ok hills I think you can be forgiven for not rushing to watch a new cartoon :o I am an odd one who quite happily watches cartoons from my youth just for a bit of comfort Blush in fact I might show Cagletini the old Alice in Wonderland film today as she recently discovered my (yes my) cuddly Cheshire Cat.

I am a grown up, I swear.

So a lie in was not a thing today. I am sleepy and craving all the carbs. All. Of. Them.

foxessocks · 06/03/2021 08:40

Thanks for the suggestions up Smile I'm very much hoping for improved behaviour today! They do like to keep us on our toes.

Dd was obsessed with Ben and Holly, I loved it too, ds never really watched it unfortunately..I might have to get them to watch some today!

I'm still in bed, can't quite face the day yet. Dh is doing the dc breakfast and then he needs to get on with the building work. Not sure what my plans are yet. Try to get some housework done, I am feeling like I should be washing walls afters all the talk of it 😂 I need some motivation.

I can hear it all kicking off downstairs,. someone has spilt milk Hmm

foxessocks · 06/03/2021 08:41

Sorry forgot to say welcome to aloeha!

SingToTheSky · 06/03/2021 08:55

One my older two really enjoyed after Ben and Holly was The Big Knights which I think was by the same people. Harder to find though (it’s another one from my youth :o)

I’ll stop there or I’ll turn it into another thread about nostalgic kids shows (there was a brilliant 90s one recently). And clearly I have other stuff to do. Can’t see me actually doing it though. I feel so weak lately - think it’s time to accept I’ve tipped over into flare up mode.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/03/2021 10:18

Dh has painted five colour patches on all four living room walls. Zero agreement on colour so far.

I have still done nothing. Vaccine site is oddly really achy again, after a week.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/03/2021 12:10

sing you could go for a patchwork design Grin

Doublechins · 06/03/2021 12:36

No flying achieved here yet but we have been to the dentist and then went for a walk round the park with the dog. Can't remember the last time we were all out of the house together so that was nice.

Must crack on now though.

foxessocks · 06/03/2021 13:10

I've actually done some stuff!!
I had to force myself to keep on working through my to do list!!

Ta was
Sorted dd pe kit
Ordered new pe shorts
Watered and checked over houseplants
Hoovered under the dining table
Cleaned table mate
Sorted hats and gloves basket
2 x LOL
Dishwasher on x 2
Took numerous toys in the living room back upstairs
Brought numerous cups downstairs
Took recycling out
Emptied bins
Finally got rid of boxes in living room
Sorted two bags of clothes a friend gave me for ds into too big at the moment, too small so get rid of and washing pile for the ones that fit

Still so much left on the list!!

foxessocks · 06/03/2021 13:11

SingToTheSky · 06/03/2021 13:46

:o well it would solve the issue, and also perhaps provide a visually stimulating environment that benefits all of us ADHDers :o

I am slightly nervous of the whole masking tape thing as our hallway was done like that by the previous tenant and the stripes are soooo uneven 😂

Just had a restorative 90 min phone call with my friend 🥰

Doublechins · 06/03/2021 15:59

Foxes I have also banished all of the toys back upstairs.

So all my ta-da's have involved the living room so it looks clean in there but the rest of the house remains in chaos.

Polished
Pulled all the furniture out to hoover and mop properly
Hoovered pretty much a whole dog from under my sofa cushions
Cleaned glass

Also
S&S
LOL
Ironing

3 of the DC want to sleep at my DGM tonight so I'm going to drop them off now then I must go shopping or we won't be eating tonight.

StillUpholding · 06/03/2021 17:31

At least one DC has embraced the school’s plans Waders. Hope DD comes round to it once she has de-stressed with her crocheting.

Has anyone seen Red around recently? Hope all is ok.

Hope newly vaccinated DH’s are recovering.

You’ve all been busy today. I have some ta das, mostly done while DH took DD out this morning. They were out for ages so I managed a restorative cup of tea and a few chapters of my book too.

☀️ 2 x lols, one load out on the line
☀️ 2 x s&s
☀️ finished off zone 1 with a wipe of the dining table and chairs, clean of patio doors and thorough hoover and clean of the dining room floor including moving all the chairs out
☀️ Dusted, hoovered and mopped rest of downstairs
☀️ cleaned TV, side tables and DD’s little table
☀️ clean washing sorted upstairs
☀️ benches and hob wiped
☀️ several lots of forms filled in and in envelopes ready to post
☀️ supermarket shop done and put away

It’s been a gorgeous day here so we had a family stroll with DD on her bike this afternoon. I now don’t feel too bad about MNing while DD watches TV and DH cooks for us Grin

Thank you for welcoming me guys!!

sing I think I might do more chatting than cleaning😂 I love Gaston I’ve always said if I was ever going to be a cartoon character I’d be Gaston😂.

double you’re right about the show homes, someone posted a thread about their house and people were saying it was too cluttered, they’d think my house was a bomb sight if they saw it😂 I hope your DH is okay x

hills I quite like Ben and Holly they’re much better than Bing🙄. I wish DD wasn’t a big fan of kids shows but they’re all we watch it drives me bonkers but sometimes I find myself watching them even when she’s asleep😂

Thank you for my welcome hope, DD is only just starting to put 2 words together and Jelly Flood was one of her first sentences😂 (I’m not sure what that says about my parenting!)

that I’m also not holly’s biggest fan😂 and congratulations!!💙

Thank you for my welcome dancing😊

Hi mc I’m having a little boy😊 shitting myself slightly as my family is mainly girls so I have no idea what to do with a little boy 🙈 sorry about your DH I wouldn’t be impressed with that either!!

Thank you for my welcome hazel😊

Thanks for welcoming me up I thought I would be a domestic goddess in my youth I remember telling anyone who would listen that I’d grow my own food and hand wash all my clothes, I soon changed my tune when DD came along😂

Thanks for the welcome foxes😊

Hi waders the pregnancy is going well, I seem to not be getting much of a bump and all the weight is going to my boobs and bum instead, which is nice as I was like a pole before😂. I hope your DH feels better x

Today has been productive, I had a zoom call with the kids dad (AKA the man child) as he is stressing he won’t be able to make it to England for DS’s birth. He moved abroad a couple of months ago, despite me telling him to wait until DS is born as we can’t be sure if he will get a flight back in time but he said it would all be fine, now he’s realised it won’t be!. I thought when I left him I’d stop having to plan his life for him but it seems I still have to!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/03/2021 18:09

aloeha how many weeks are you? Boys are not much different to girls, less clothing options and more need for hair cuts as they get older 😀

I wish all the toys would FIT upstairs here Sad

halfhope · 06/03/2021 19:32

My first words were 'all gone' while sadly looking at my breakfast bowl. Still have a good appetite! My family is mostly girls too but a boy is fun. Aloeha I hope he makes it back for the birth. DH caught shingles and so couldn't come to the hospital with me for Ds's arrival. We had to wavecat each other from a first floor window and I'd hold ds up for him to see. It was all very Brief Encounter 😁

halfhope · 06/03/2021 19:33

What's wavecat? 🙀😹 Wave at.

halfhope · 06/03/2021 19:38

Okay ta das: washed living room walls and doors, cleaned out dishwasher and washing machine including filters and drawers and did maintenance washes. Washed pot cupboard and all pots and pans. Washed all glassware and cleaned that cupboard. Washed out dinnerware cupboard. Got overtired and threw a wobbly. Had to apologise to DH. Ordered new kettle and toaster as present ones have been bashed/broken (dropped) and are rusting slightly. Have chosen red ones.

halfhope · 06/03/2021 20:21

Cleaned bins, and thorough clean of dryer, including filters and fluff areas and inside and out. Finished for today.

SingToTheSky · 06/03/2021 20:26

If my current mood were a meme it’d be that grumpy “nope” cat

As you were folks

😂

Doublechins · 06/03/2021 20:42

This one sing?

Hope* you're a woman on a mission!

Well I did the shopping and made dinner and that's about it. I haven't even washed up 🙈
