Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Waders your sense of humour cracks me up every time! I love it!
Dancing I feel you on the shoes front. DH always leaves his shoes bang on in the middle of the utility room (we use the back door more than the front one) despite there being a designated 'shoe area' there.
Sending lots of strong coffee your way.

Ta da
dosed teen
retrieved a bit of the washing up out of the teen's room
did today's installment of an email herbal tea course
made bread
Washed up the baking trays and grill pans
Considered the issue of pasta (miscommunication and ended up with a bit more than intended - but as we eat pasta about twice a week it is not a major issue)
transfer notes from exam into the archive for course folder
removed candle that I took the cover off that is affecting my breathing from my bedroom and aired it out
Pondered whether I have any energy at all, decided this was a nope.
Noticed giant dust collecting spider webs on the ceiling that I swear weren't there the other day Shock

Morning. Today is brought to you by the words 'nope' and 'don't want to'

halfhope · 03/03/2021 13:33

Oh God home schooling meltdown upstairs 😳

halfhope · 03/03/2021 13:38

Good luck with the dentist waders. May the visit reassuringly boring. Cleaned stairs and lower hall, leaving vestibule and cloakroom until later. Very thorough clean. I'm afraid things were very dusty/grubby prior to springclean because I'd been gliding rather than flying 😆. Aim is to get living /dining done by sunday whereupon I join the kitchen zone week for massive clean. Gulp.

halfhope · 03/03/2021 13:39

Spiders have been throwing up webs over night Hills. Tis Spring and I think they are coked up or something.

halfhope · 03/03/2021 13:40

Tearful shrieking now. Leaving to DH.

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 13:58

Oh no hope! :( Poor DS. Glad DH can step in. I’m somewhat grateful today that DD1 was allowed to stay the full day because of the timing of some zoom lessons. Just hope she’s actually getting some work done!

I’ve managed a bit of normal housework but it’s quite embarrassing how it still feels like a big achievement just to manage the bare minimum like laundry!

Thank you. It was homophones, apparently. He was given a restorative cup of decaf tea and a cuddle.

halfhope · 03/03/2021 15:53

Glad the afternoon went well for both of you 💐

foxessocks · 03/03/2021 15:56

Sorry I have been so absent of late. I'm feeling drained. The dc behaviour has been terrible this week! Huge tantrums from ds, Monday it was over a biscuit and Tuesday it was over pasta , screaming, hitting, the works. Then dd joins in saying we shouldn't treat our own children in this way (because we have taken treats away!!) I mean I did actually have to stifle a laugh at that!

I have finally got the house under some control a s my day off.

waders glad dentist was ok. I have mine on Friday so I'm hoping for the same!

Ah who mentioned school uniform?! Dd has grown out of everythi ng

foxessocks · 03/03/2021 16:05

Sorry pressed send too soon

Dd has grown out of everything so I had to order new stuff, we walked to school to pick it up today, it was too big so we had to walk back to swap it 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ at least it was good exercise I suppose!

Ta das today
School work with dd, after a bad start this morning where I was being snappy and unfair and dd wasn't exactly trying hard, we actually did get everything done this afternoon although her science work was scruffy and you could tell she has had enough!! (So have I and I'm not making her do it again! Stuff it!)
Dithered about what to do for dinner as have various leftovers to use. Decided on jacket potatoes.
Went to shop because turned out I didn't have enough potatoes or cheese or baked beans Hmm but at least we can now use up the tiny amount of chicken and bacon and veg in the fridge
Went up to the school to pick up dd uniform
Got dd to try on cardigan, I really didn't think there would be a problem or I would have done this at the school 🤦‍♀️ but it was far, far too big.
Took uniform back and swapped it
Took ds to nursery, picked him up, packed lunches etc
Spent 15 minutes cleaning in dining area
Sorted hotspots on dining table
S&s bathroom
1 X LOL
Dishwasher on
Washed up few bits
Took recycling out
Wrote out work for dd tomorrow as she's at my parents house
Wiped kitchen sides
Quick tidy around house in general
Ordered a pie tin online

Plan for rest of day
Get jacket potatoes in the oven soon
Cook chicken / bacon / veg to go with it
Unload dishwasher
Try and at least do another 15 minutes or so in living room , I think probably dusting is needed
Get dh to show me how to empty the new hoover because it turns out I should have listened when he tried to explain before rather than thinking I could figure it out easily BlushBlush

If I can just get those few things done I'll be happy I think!

foxessocks · 03/03/2021 16:08

Oh and I think it was zoo who asked about the stain remover! It's this one Smile

Dancingtomusic · 03/03/2021 17:18

Foxes- thank you, you have given me the idea of Jacket potatoes this evening.

Half- oh no, hope all was ok with the homeschool upset! Flowers

Waders- glad dentist went well.

Zoo- my charity bags were the bags i nearly fell down the stairs -( i would have gone backwards)- that prompted me to join this thread and stop lurking (because i was too shy.) That near death experience made me join you guys- and i am glad i did as the house is in a better organised state than a year ago 🤣

Tadas-
Dw on
Lolx2 in dryer
Hoovered 1/2 sitting room.

Given up on school work i think.

Oh biggy-
The hallway is cleared and it looks lovely! Ding.

They have returned from the park and dumped everything in the cleaned hallway 🤣

I am trying to locate all school shoes and stuff and put it in cubbys ready for school.

Ds coat washed and dried. Not that it looks much different.

Struggling mentally to carry on...wheres my mojo.....

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 17:22

Ooh thanks for sharing the product foxes sorry you are feeling so drained. Your DD does make me laugh with her turn of phrase. I’d have laughed too, cheeky thing :o

I don’t feel I’ve been terribly productive this afternoon, the drying has taken ages and we are all a bit flat. However I did get an email from my tutor and apart from adding one reference my assignment was all good so yay.

Main mission for the next couple of hours is keep Cagletini awake!

StillUpholding · 03/03/2021 20:17

Sorry you’re feeling drained at the minute Foxes Flowers

Dancing your decluttering sounds like it’s coming on well!

Hope the restorative tea and hug combo has put things right Hope.

Just thought of somewhere else for clothes that have washed well Mc and That - Lilly and Sid. Haven’t tried their baby clothes but they do a good sale and got some lovely quality tops for DD.

Zoo and Dancing I also appear to live with folk with the inability to put shoes away. Drives me mad. We have a kallax-type unit and the shoes can just be thrown in the boxes. Takes approximately 2 seconds longer than chucking them on the floor, but DH would rather we all trip over them regularly and face my wrath than do it and I suspect DD is cut from the same cloth.

Waves to ED, Sing, Double, Waders, Hills, Merry, Tidy, Hazel and Naptune

My “awaiting disposal” area is the utility bench. There’s a couple of bags of stained stuff that is waiting for the next time nursery do a collection (some charity takes the rags and the nursery gets a donation) and there’s also a couple of bags of better stuff for the charity shop. I’m not sure this will be the year to be honest Grin

Right, ta Das:
⛅️ trip to the park with DD
⛅️ brutal yoga workout
⛅️ plants watered, poinsettia stripped of dead leaves
⛅️ 5 minutes sorting the big hotspot that is our hall
⛅️ cleaned glass in front door and the hall mirror
⛅️ hoovered and dusted hall and stairs
⛅️ Helped DD make some Mother’s Day cards for her DGMs
⛅️ epic craft clear up. There was a glue incident, and a sequin one, and also a glitter one.
⛅️ Tidied dining room
⛅️ cleaned dining table
⛅️ cleaned picnic bench in garden after DD spilt milk all over it
⛅️ sorted paperwork
⛅️ cleared kitchen after DH cooked
⛅️ work food prepped
⛅️ DD bathed and hair washed and de-glittered

I have now retired to bed with my book as DH is doing bedtime and is then watching the football. Peace at last!

Up thanks, I will have a look at Lilly and Sid.
Foxes oh, thanks for sharing the stain remover. I've heard good things about it too.
Hope hoping your little one has recovered from the homeschooling drama.
Dancing 💐I hope you find your mojo 💐

Ta das:
💥Lolx2
💥Watered and dusted houseplants. Big ficus really needed it.
💥Rotated DW.
💥Rubbish out to the bins outside.
💥Usual morning and evening routines.

Tomorrow I need to de-mould the entrance to the hallway.

Right, need to wash the baby.
🍒👋

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 21:15

I anti procrastinated!!! I finally emailed the St. John Ambulance leaders about the Caglets quitting. They didn’t decide for a while when covid hit, but since they did decide they won’t go back (a number of factors but I’m relieved as it was a really long journey) I’ve put off emailing. But suddenly found the gumption to do it.

Then tried to log on to the bank to cancel the standing order (I didn’t mind leaving it this long, subs are even cheaper than scouts etc and it’s a charity), had to try logging in on my phone and locked myself out 😳🙈 oh well. Halfway there at least.

Also booked DD1 onto dance classes as she’s finally agreed to give zoom a go. But haven’t been able to pay due to the above. Will try tomorrow or DH can do it.

Doublechins · 03/03/2021 21:33

Everyone has been busy today!

I hate the shoes thing it really winds me up. we have a shoe storage thing in the cupboard under the stairs which is literally right next to the front door. They still leave them by the door 😡 so I take great joy in opening the cupboard door and flinging them right to the back so they have to manoeuvre through an obstacle course of crap to retrieve them ☺️ I know it's petty but hopefully one day they'll get sick of doing this and just put them where they go.

Ta-das for today
👞 up, bathed, make up
👟 DC up, dressed and cereal
👠 S&S
👞 2 x LOL
👟 quick tidy & sweep floors
👠 dishes
👞 dropped youngest off with DGM
👟 back home for mine & DC lessons
👠 was going to make them chilli for lunch but mince smelled really bad so did a quick pasta with a jar
👞 dishes
👟 back to lessons & refereeing the most ridiculous arguments about who used which pencil 🙄
👠 ironing
👞 nipped to LIDL
👟 made dinner, tidy up after (with help 🤔 they must want something)
👠 bath & bed for littles
👞 revision

I've decided I need some posters up around the house to help me a bit with revision so the males in my life are going to have to get used to seeing diagrams of the most intimate parts of a lady for a few weeks 🤣

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/03/2021 00:18

I have two at gone 70 that haven't learnt this. It is not even a cupboard it is an open shoe rack, literally in front of where they sit to take of their shoes. Don't hold your breathe

Technology problems virus/malware issues means that I have not got to bed when I wanted. Problem has not been completely resolved so will have to finish dealing with that asap.

did some stuffs, ate chocolate. did not lms. Progressed kitchen taming closer towards looking like a functional kitchen. A bit of laundry. Made some bread. Some online study that is fun related subject not exam related subject.

And now I am just trying to unwind enough to sleeps.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/03/2021 00:21

Oh those posters sound like fun Double Grin
