Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Brilliant news Hills 🍰☕️For you what a star🏅

Zoo very 😂🤣funny. I need something more than tic tacs. I have been up since noon. It was soooo lovely outside I couldn’t let that pass me by another day. I made tea and washed up some dishes while waiting for the kettle to boil then went down to Summer house to enjoy sun and look through some recipes. There was no glue. I have it by the door for tomorrow and plan to decluttering for an hour in the Summerhouse by chose some recipes to stick in from magazines, so recipe day.
Measured new tarpaulin for the hens and ordered two on eBay now I can get into it.
Hope to repot the containers on the Summer house decking tomorrow and get DH to brush decking. Only a few planks wide but it would be good to get it tidied up and fresh compost in.
Rat update: poison eaten...I don’t like doing this but with rats there is no choice.DH hasn’t caught any but some have taken it. Not looking forward to smelling them yuk!

Sounds yummy Zoo did they eat it.
LMS alternative re DH... tipped DDs bin over her room including bed. Don’t remember her leaving it again. She was livid.

Well done hills 🌟

Doublechins · 01/03/2021 21:13

Well done hills.

Glad you managed to get up and catch some of the sunshine red.

Sorry I have no other personals I have the worst memory so 🍒 👋 to everyone else.

Finished uni a bit early so home by 5.

❤️ S&S
❤️ LOL
❤️ tidied upstairs
❤️ quick tidy and sweep of doors downstairs
❤️ made dinner
❤️ dishes, tidy kitchen and empty bin. I recall this used to be the job of whoever didn't cook but seems to somehow just always be my job again 🙄
❤️ clean dining table
❤️ ironing

Took my makeup off (shocking for not doing this) and moisturiser on (doubly shocking for not doing this).

Now I should be sorting the DC schoolwork for tomorrow or sorting some of my uni work but once my PJ's went on I was somehow drawn to the sofa and Netflix 🙊

Mc3209 · 01/03/2021 22:04

Hills woo! Congratulations!! That's fantastic news! You need to celebrate 🎉🎉
Red how are you feeling? Wild rats scare me. I hope you manage to sort the problem.
Dancing it's basically a fancy name for a form of baby sign language, based on simplified ASL. Apparently little ones can start signing as early as 8 months onwards, and that should help communication, reduce tantrums, and speed up language development when they are still preverbal.
Double evening on the sofa in front of Netflix sounds bliss.
Hope how did your work review go?

Ta das from me:
💥LOL x4 - washed, dried AND put away. All on the same day for once.
💥Tried out a slow cooker today. I think I am in love. That has to be my new favourite kitchen appliance now!
💥Morning and evening routines

Didn't get around to dusting, so that's tomorrow's job.

Well, that's a short list. It felt much busier for some reason. Ah well.

halfhope · 01/03/2021 22:10

Went very well thanks MC. Constructive. Relief!

SingToTheSky · 01/03/2021 23:46

Slow day here. Much of it spent trying to keep warm and stay awake.
My achievements were getting DS through slightly more than bare minimum work, and watching three episodes of The Bay on itv player. Go me! Unfortunately Cagletini had a nap again, clearly shattered from nursery. So it’s been a late evening for her.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better all round! I’m off to hide under blankets.

Redsquirrel5 · 02/03/2021 04:11

MC I have a real phobia about them. Don’t know where they have come from, maybe the fields. DH has only seen one but there is never just one. BF lives on a farm and there are lots up there. Her son picks them off with a rifle. He is quite a good shot. Feeling better tonight.

I love my slow cooker but don’t use it much now as I put it in the Everhot as it has three ovens. One for plates, a slow oven up to 200C and a top oven up to about 360C. I can put in the slow oven and cook other things in top oven.
Halfhope that’s good, glad it went well.

Sing I was prone to a nap after school so I know how she feels.

I have been asleep and been up to the loo about half an hour ago. Just started randomly sneezing in double figures now. Not going to get to sleep with massive sneezing!

HazelNuttyElf · 02/03/2021 04:37

mc I love my slow cooker.
hills well done on passing 🎉
Red I hope you're feeling better soon, it's surprising how quickly you can be taken down for days by an illness of any kind
Sing I've felt cold all evening too, I hope cagletini sleeps well for you
🍒🥱 to everyone else

I actually have some ta das!
🌈 Actual work
🌈 Went for a walk on my afternoon break to enjoy the sunshine
🌈 Wiped the desk down after having work men come in and stood on it (at work)
🌈 Accosted by DH to get other work done in the house as soon as I walked in the door
🌈 Sorted out deep freeze in the shed, took inventory of everything in there, rearranged to make more room
🌈 Reattached bathroom vanity to the wall (it wiggled itself free a few months ago maybe a year and just didn't get around to it)
🌈 Ordered a new TV stand, then looked at reviews 🤦‍♀️ let's hope ours shows up okay 🤞

I guess that's it really. I am off tomorrow and hope to finish all the interior painting jobs around the house so I can start outside. It's starting to warm up, especially this coming weekend.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/03/2021 06:05

Morning.hope glad review was ok.
hills you clever little carrot!well doneStar
MC Oooh,that sounds cool,wasn't a thing when I had the zoolets,or I'd have had a go!
Sing hope today is better lovely
redI sprawl on my bed to sort recipes, summerhouse sounds much nicer!

I successfully burnt only saucepan I have beyond repair last night
I did, however, make a little headway with dd2 and we have a unstable truce in place
I forgot to make a plan for the week,so need to tackle that first off
Then menu planning and recipe sorting....

SingToTheSky · 02/03/2021 09:59

I had a tiny burst of motivation this morning. Had a shower and washed my hair. Cleared up from breakfast and tidied the counter a bit.

Then it passed. 😂

Mc3209 · 02/03/2021 11:23

Hope glad it went well!
Zoo oh no, that's very frustrating re pan. Would you be able to pop to the shops to get a replacement soon?
Sing well done on your motivation burst 😊

Argh. I shrank one of McTiny's baby grows in the dryer. It is a new fancy double zip John Lewis baby grow I just bought (wanted to try it out and see if it's worth the price difference), washed it before putting baby in it, and now barely could get him into it 😣 and it's 3-6 months size, ie his size. So frustrating.

Doublechins · 02/03/2021 16:36

I think the fact that I couldn't tumble dry them would put me off buying any more of them MC.

Today's ta-da's
✏️ up bathed, dressed and make up
✏️ DC up. Dressed little one and nagged the others until they got dressed
✏️ S&S
✏️ LOL
✏️ cereal and blueberries for DC
✏️ quick tidy and swept floors
✏️ dishes
✏️ dropped youngest off at my DGM
✏️ back home and printed DC schoolwork and got them started then logged on to my own lessons which I've been on from 9.30-4 while helping the kids log on to their lessons and helping them with schoolwork 😫
✏️ made panini's and did my ironing in my lunch break

Now I'm just waiting for eldest to finish a maths sheet then I'll go and collect youngest, home to make Spanish omelette for dinner and then bath young DC encourage older 2 to have a bath and all into our PJ's. Need to get them back into a good bedtime routine ready for back to school next week.

I should do some uni work too this evening but that may not happen

foxessocks · 02/03/2021 17:37

I don't know what's going on but I wish I had chocolate. I am so, so thankful that it is my day off tomorrow!

Off to look at my to do list which has been sadly neglected for the last few days

SingToTheSky · 02/03/2021 17:50

I am mostly ignoring stuff too. I did a bit of laundry though and chased up a missing prescription 🤬

And then actually got on with unit 5 so that’s given me a boost. I don’t want to use DD1’s school laptop more than absolutely necessary so I have written it in the booklet (really don’t know why they still send it when it’s all done online 😂 but oh well). Amazing what I can achieve when I leave my phone downstairs 😬 going to have a tv break now I think.

halfhope · 02/03/2021 18:13

washed it before putting baby in it, sorry MC but pmsl here. Definitely better than washing it WITH McTiny in it 😂. But seriously how annoying for it to shrink - perhaps tell JL. Have cleaned the bathroom and upper hall. Cleaned bathroom with an old toothbrush. Cleanest it's ever been 😁

halfhope · 02/03/2021 18:14

Ate lots of biscuits. Just broke for the border today 🍪🍪🍪

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/03/2021 18:15

Lil zoo has app eating disorder assessment.21st June...school aren't impressed with wait and are deciding plan for her on Monday
Had call parent carers today,I've been referred in by Sen support.rather fancy the phone calls to offload etc...they've sent me load stuff they can offer in emails❤️
I forget sometimes our normal isn't average normal which could explain why I find teens so much harder than toddlers...

halfhope · 02/03/2021 18:16

Well that's good news zoo. You're a great Mum, I hope you know 🌠

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/03/2021 18:20

Tada
Cleaned kitchen surfaces
Wash all lower floors
Lots recipe sorting
Menu planning half done
List written dd1 for tesco

StillUpholding · 02/03/2021 19:46

That sounds promising Zoo, good for you to have someone supporting you when you do so much for everyone else (and I agree with Hope)

That’s annoying about the babygro mc, but I agree, you don’t want any you can’t TD. If I remember rightly DD had a few jojo maman Bebe ones that washed well it she was mainly in next and Asda.

Must be so difficult concentrating on your own lectures while keeping the DC on track Double.. You’re superwoman.

No ta Das to report here other than my usual morning routine. Day off tomorrow so will post links in the morning.

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 02/03/2021 20:29

Hope 😂😂 that would be quite unconventional 😂
Up I really like Next, H&M, and George for baby clothes, they wash so well.
Zoo you are a wonderful mum, don't forget that. Glad you are getting some support.

Ta das:
💥Hoovered downstairs
💥Dusted upstairs and downstairs
💥Sorted out my nails
💥Epilated legs
💥Antibac surfaces in the bedroom (some of them, not all)
💥Rotated DW

halfhope · 02/03/2021 20:38

I have spring-cleaned upstairs. Even dismantled the hall ceiling lights to clean them properly. Left to do over next week or two: stairs, lower hall, cloak, living/dining, kitchen. Might join back with FL schedule to coincide with kitchen week.
