Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Read a million books to the 3yo after her bath and got her to sleep at a decent time. Edited shopping. More laundry done. Combined with the decent start on unit 5 it’s not been a bad evening really, considering how most of the day went!

Finally finishing stranger things with DD1 now, then sleeeep.

HazelNuttyElf · 03/03/2021 04:56

waders all I had to do was empty the cupboard under the bathroom sink, hand him a few tools and be there for moral support 😂 also made me 🤣 at pixie spit!
zoo that's excellent news about lil zoo, it seems the school is finally helping her

Ta Das Tuesday
🌞 2 LOLs - our sheets and mattress/ pillow protectors
🌞 Painting, painting and more painting
🌞 Helped DH repair a blind that broke this morning. He now hates this kind of blind and is glad we're leaving them all. I love the look of them, but we've had to repair them a lot over the years
🌞 Dinner made, lunch sorted for tomorrow

That's it! Painting did involve me moving the heavy TV stand and desk as I was painting the living room. I painted a couple of walls as well as the skirting boards. I am STILL not finished 😢 but the end is in sight. I plan to finish the interior painting on Saturday, then start on exterior paint

I just have to get clothes out for tomorrow, as I'm back to work, then take a shower before I go to bed. I did get to sit down for a few minutes though.

Sing that reminds me of when DD was little. She would normally just get one bedtime story, didn't bother to ask for more usually, although occasionally for read 2 or 3. When we moved to the states when she was 2 and we lived with my ILs for a few months, grandpa got roped into reading her multiple books one night 🤣 we were wondering what was taking him so long. He read to her until she fell asleep!

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/03/2021 06:07

Aw,you guys make meBlush..I don't feel I'm doing great when I still needing rant about basic stuff so much..
MC babygro that shrank is crazy.they should be sturdy enough to withstand washer/dryer.most barely have time to get damn things clean let along faff with washing instructions!.
wadershope get phone under control again.was veg box all stuff your DC will eat or a mix of whatever?
Hazelhurrah for the end is insight on paint front!
Sing there were never enough stories read according to zoolets when tiny.i often was hoarse from extended cuddles and book but secretly loved it

halfhope · 03/03/2021 07:37

Well done on the painting hazelnutty. I like painting but it takes forever and a day. Morning all. I've been up.early and pottered a bit. Going to start downstairs hall and cloakroom clean.

halfhope · 03/03/2021 07:38

waders I keep thinking pixie spit must be pink like woollite. Or is that unicorn spit?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 03/03/2021 07:47

I have started trying to locate our leftover baby clothes from DC5, i do want to buy some new bits but would like to atleast buy sensibly size wise.

Cannot stop sneezing this morning

Great news on lilzoo zoo! And on your achievements hills!

I have places i want to paint. But painting is quite far down my list atm Sad

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 07:54

I was lucky that some of them she “read” herself instead so I got to close my eyes and listen to her rambling away trying to remember the exact words 😂

She woke up at 6.57 so not too bad except I had been up late finishing stranger things. I may have cried at the end. Didn’t think I was that into it. 🥺 She woke me up partway through a dream where I was seeing my therapist at my old dining table and kept forgetting what I was meant to be talking about, and was annoyed at wasting the session. 😂 Must remember to add some notes about what to discuss.

Well done on the painting hazel we still haven’t even chosen a damn colour 😳😂 that’s so cute about FIL reading endless books 🥰

Must get up and dressed, in case tesco arrives after DH has left for nursery. Once again I’m regretting not ordering croissants. Sad times. 😂

Good luck with the dentist waders . 😂 At breath of virgins etc. Lovely rainbow veggies there. I think unicorns eat marshmallows though...

StillUpholding · 03/03/2021 08:12

Morning everyone!

Painting is also something I aspire to but is not looking likely any time soon.

I’m impressed with your spring cleaning Hope.

Happy anti-procrastination day. My effort will be sorting some paperwork that’s been hovering about. We are still in zone 1, and the mission today is to dust, water and declutter our plants apparently. My poinsettia could definitely do with some TLC to be fair.

So far I’ve emptied the DW, put on an LOL, weighed myself (urgh) and fed those needing feeding.

Grin at unicorn spit etc Waders MIL bought a posh alpaca wool cardigan for DD and asked me if I wanted her to wash it in case it shrunk Hmm. Of course I declined, followed the instructions to the letter... and it massively shrunk Blush. Thankfully she saw her in it a couple of times before I attempted a wash. But yeah, H&M all the way these days. I didn’t have much from there when she was a baby Mc but most of her basic stuff is H&M these days. The conscious range of t-shirts etc are great, and I love their magic 2 year sizing. We really have got two years, possibly three, out of most of it.

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 08:28

Now if only I could sort out the rest of our stuff we need to get rid of 😭 apparently BHF do collect but I feel I’d need to have a proper sort out to make it worthwhile. Unfortunately we have a lot of stuff in the garden only fit for the tip.

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 09:51

Sounds standard in our house zoo :o

DS was up in time to join DS on the nursery run so he went for Pokémon purposes. I found some motivation and moved laundry on after scanning and putting away the shopping. Will get DS to empty the DW though.

Dancingtomusic · 03/03/2021 10:13

🤣 pixie spit
Unicorns
Virgins breath

👕I hate clothes that need that much attention 🙄. 👚

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 03/03/2021 10:14

Our landing is mostly occupied by clean laundry which is waiting to be put away!

SingToTheSky · 03/03/2021 10:20

Pretty much everything goes through the normal wash here. I do have period pants that I try and remember not to tumble dry 😂 and my bras go on hand wash. Along with my gym leggings although I’m probably being over cautious with those.

DS has emptied the DW so I should put another lot on. With DD1 cooking more we are using a lot more pans!

Has anyone with a loaned school laptop heard when they need to give them back? I’m a bit worried about DD1 having to still catch up with some work on Google classroom so hopefully it won’t be immediately. I’m going to try and finish assignment 5 on there too before she goes back (mass testing on 11th, then in properly on 12th) - it’s web based so can technically be accessed anywhere but it’s a total PITA due to tiny text etc. So if I can get it done by then it’ll make things a lot easier.

Must catch up on northern lights as I’m a chapter behind. DS is currently on ringfit, I’m impressed by his planking ability. I would be faceplanting!

Dancingtomusic · 03/03/2021 10:26

Shattered
Kids- blocked noses - crying at night- awake since 3am.

Positives-
Took 4 large shopping bags of clothes to fit a 3 to 4 years old boy. All washed and dried and packed into bag labelled - tshirts etc....so the mum didnt just get a jumbled mess.
I was really chuffed to wash a primark boys coat for 3-4 years old boy (coat was bought 3 years ago.) Its as good as new! I passed to this lady with brand new gloves in the pocket.

Its just lovely to get some things out of the house because I am sick of tripping over the charity bags.

I am giving it one more day on the bundle of girls clothes and if I get no joy its going to the charity container at the tip.

Flying- zero
Getting rid of charity bags 👍

Todo-

Get kids to try on school uniform and see what fits 🤦‍♀️
