Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Oh no double!

Actually shiiiit I will also need stuff for student loan application, they’ll open in June for my course I think. What stuff do you need for it? I’ve never done this before.

Headachy and giving up for the day now.

Doublechins · 25/03/2021 21:04

All I needed was what I've said and then they send Lee an email asking for his previous years earnings and I think that's it. I'll have to do my LSF one soon too and I'm hoping they won't want as many documents. Seems silly that they need to see the same birth certificates I sent them last year when they've saved all the kids details and I haven't added any more 🙄

SingToTheSky · 25/03/2021 21:21

Eesh. Stressful evening. DD1 wrote statements about the classmate’s messages (I mentioned it the other day) and what happened with her boyfriend last year. HOY phoned this evening saying that due to the severity of the latter she needed to report it to the police. DD1 is understandably freaked out. Just need to wait for a call from them now, I’m assuming it won’t be tonight.

Nobody prepares you for this shit. 😖

SingToTheSky · 25/03/2021 21:28

Sorry not the most appropriate thread for venting the above ^

Mariokart time shortly. I usually say I’m too tired when the request occurs this late but I think since DD1 suggested it tonight we’d be wise to try and just have a nice family Grand Prix. Trying to ignore the headache that is now a nightly occurrence Hmm

Doublechins · 25/03/2021 21:31

It's understandable she's a bit freaked out sing but I guess it's a good thing the school are taking it seriously.

SingToTheSky · 25/03/2021 21:37

Thank you, yeah I can’t fault the school at all. HOY is brilliant (in general not just over this)

StillUpholding · 25/03/2021 21:42

You can vent about anything here Sing Flowers. Hope DD is ok. You’ve been really productive with all yours phonecalls and forms and things recently. Doing your talk will understandably be nerve wracking but whenever I’ve done anything like that I find the waiting for my turn and getting the first word out is the worst part. Once you get going I always think it gets easier so it doesn’t matter how long you’re talking for. You’ll be great.

Good to have you back Foxes! Glad to hear the kitchen is progressing.

Sorry Lil Zoo is having such a tough time at the minute Zoo. You absolutely have not failed her Flowers

Waders Hope the rest of the birthday went well. Cake looks yummy . I’ll have to remember the balloons in the shower trick for DH’s big birthday in a few years Grin

Hurrah for negative test Double, what a relief.

Congratulations on the house sale Hazel! 7 offers is amazing. Hope it’s smooth sailing from here.

Hope all is well Tidy.

As I suspected yesterday there were minimal ta Das (my back got worse but it’s just niggling a bit today so on the mend). Work today so nothing to report today either. Just about kept on top of the laundry and general mess.

Mc3209 · 25/03/2021 23:05

Sing 💐 to you and your DD. Stressful times for both of you.
Zoo sending lots of strength to your zoolet.
Hazel congratulations on house sale! I am impressed at how fast things have moved.
Ships your boat sounds lovely 😊
Up hope your back recovers soon.

Ta das:
💥Found kitchen.
💥Brushed the upstairs carpets with rubber brush, then hoover. That's the only way I can get all the hair out of the carpet. Post partum hair loss is a b*tch. If I don't go bald that would be a miracle.
💥Hoovered stairs and downstairs
💥Recycling and general rubbish out to the bins.
This zone is not looking bad actually, kinda coasted through the missions, as all of them looked OK.

🍒👋 to everyone!

Dancingtomusic · 25/03/2021 23:44

Mc-post partum hair loss is horrible. Hope it slows down for you soon Mc.
Up- glad to hear your back is on the mend!
Double- hope you find the documents you need. Its great your Dh got a negative test result!
Sing- I am so sorry to hear you and Dd1 are worrying about things being reported to the police. Its really good the school are taking action. Your Dd is very brave, so are you.
Its true, where is the handbook on dealing with this stuff? I could muddle throught the younger years but the older kids stuff...🤦‍♀️. Have thought of writing a book?
Its good you are going to have family time together of mario kart. Sending you a hug.

Dancingtomusic · 25/03/2021 23:52

Red- thank you, I will look in Calendular cream!
Zoo- thank you right i will look for white moisturising carex or the gold one(ultra) and will def avoid aloe Vera.
Foxes- hope your headache is better!
Red- wow i love hearing about your family! What amazing travellers you have!
So glad all the people at the jab looked after you. I agree i think schools as the nastiest place to work.
Ships- sorry to hear that you were crying at work. Its not on, and makes sad to hear anyone was made to feel so upset.
waders-hope your foot is feeling better after all the partying!😊

Redsquirrel5 · 26/03/2021 00:43

Hazel that happens here a lot now re tenants. I viewed a house years ago where the house was repossessed by the building society. They had ripped doors and kicked holes in what had been good kitchen cupboards. It was next to a scaffolding yard so I didn’t buy it. Strangely it was a Grandad’s of one of DS friends at Primary. I thought it might be noisy and DS2 works late and needs to sleep in some mornings.

Ships I trained as an NNEB so worked in nurseries both private and LEA and later school up to Yr6. I will take a photo of the cupboard to show you. Yes, our family have itchy feet especially dad I lived in so many addresses I lost count and four countries by the time I was 8 and went back to three of those countries to live but different areas. I have itchy feet just now and have got quite excited about the thought. Not sure if I am still brave enough. At 19 I was very brave.

Zoo ❤️Bless you. I do witter on after a couple of gins🤣 I find everyone else’s lives fascinating. I remember studying Sociology as part of our NNEB studies and thinking” Ooh I would have liked studying this at Uni. I got a good mark for it too.
I can’t imagine living in somewhere like London. I cope in Bristol but struggle and am overwhelmed by the amount of people. I haven’t been since College. We went as part of our course. We worked in a nursery. Went to three hospitals ( divided up into groups)Great Ormond Street, St. Thomas’ and Guy’s Hospital and also visited VA and the British History Museum. We had a great few days but I struggled with the people.
I love watching shows like Wife Swap or Rich house, Poor House and I wonder how the people feel afterwards. DH hates anything like that so I don’t watch them very often. I guess I could now we have another TV.

Dancing hope you feel better soon.

Sing oh dear that is awful for DD1 a lot of pressure on her. I hope she is ok.
You’ve tried though Sing. I hope you find it. Could it be with Wedding photos?

Waders aargh lost posts are so annoying.

Doublechins · 26/03/2021 05:56

Up at 4 dressed finished packing and out the door. Am now sat in the car putting my make up on in the car. Shift starts at 7 but need to go in and get changed and also go to the security desk to see if someone has handed my swipe card in because I've lost it 🙈

Happy Friday everyone

Redsquirrel5 · 26/03/2021 09:00

Awake. Still have headache. The other headache isn’t up yet. Bloody men re yesterday. He went out for four hours to DS3 who wanted to. Watch a film with him if I was ok with it. Yep fine. I watched TV read a bit and then made a cottage pie which was ready for 7pm but DH wasn’t home until after that. I had started mine as I was hungry. Evening fine. I had put all pans etc in dishwasher when I put Cottage Pie in the oven. So two pasta bowls dirty and a mug. He asked if I wanted tea to take up but was going to leave bowls and cutlery. I mentioned it and he got the huff. Then I got the huff! He went to bed because I thought that someone who hadn’t lifted a finger all day bar making a few cups of tea could wash up the few things when he had been out all afternoon to evening and come home to a lovely meal. Bloody men!

Sing you see it is a place to rant!

Rant over safe to come out from behind sofa.

😁

SingToTheSky · 26/03/2021 09:37

Red we don’t actually have wedding photos 😳 I mean we have ones we all took obviously but we had a small wedding without a photographer etc. Anyway I’ll give it another look today but if no luck I’ll just add a note in saying the evidence is in my married name and I will send proof of name change separately - I need to do that anyway to have my OU account changed, as I started studying with them before we got married. If they don’t accept that fair enough but at least I’ll have tried.

I did also ask the GP if I can get a letter just stating my diagnoses that I can use for this sort of thing, so it’s all in one and not confusing (for example I found one letter with autism, one with autism spectrum condition, and one with Asperger’s syndrome 😂). I don’t mind paying of course but it apparently takes 4-6 weeks to get that letter.

Has anyone done those information requests from doctors? I’ve done it for a specific letter before but I was considering doing a more general one for the Caglets especially to actually get all their letters and reports together.

Anyway thank you all for the thoughts re DD1. Hoping there’s no drama at school about it, obviously the boys don’t know, however she did mention the statement/police thing to a couple of (supposedly trustworthy) friends who I really hope don’t let her down by gossiping to others :( HOY said if she wants to stay home at any point due to this they will understand.

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/03/2021 09:50

Morning
Yesterday's in person meeting went badly.dont think we getting any help at all as she's not underweight
Read a book at bedtime to encourage sleep- tried that, and 1000 other things
Eat fruit first thing to reduce dizzy spells- she won't eat fullstop
Eat 8x a day(small amounts)- can't get her eat 3x a day so yeh that's a great one

Tired, stressed and fed up/might log out for a bit and try and regroup wtf going to do now.i am so fed up CAMHS and their revolutionary ideas that a half baked imbecile would've already deployed before reaching out for help

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/03/2021 10:10

CAMHS - can't actually make hell stop.

Sorry that CAMHS are living up to their reputation Zoo

Sing could the marriage certificate be with some of DH's paperwork for sorting stuff out for him?

Morning.
My get up and go fucked off.
Had a mental health day yesterday and slept through most of it.
Vaguely feeling human. But still very nope nope nope.
Managed to have a conversation with the people about stuff that people are doing that is really really making me cross/frustrated etc etc Without!!! losing my shit. i'm impressed with myself tbh
fixed technology for people. people been told if they are big enough to use technology they be big enough to fix it themselves, or ring one of my siblings until MAY! technology fixing stills are on strike til may.
don't even get me started on the android issue Hmm

Today i think i might attempt some crafting. It is very wet and raining. so going for a walk might not be the best no slip option. bollocked up my knee again. apparently my knees are too old for sitting cross legged to. I swear the hips and knees have teamed up to go in strike at protest of me forgetting my age. I am NOT old dammit!

Dancingtomusic · 26/03/2021 10:44

Zoo- I am sorry to hear that Cahms are not helpful.

I saw this on tv yesterday on loose women....

Gemma Oaten is an Actress from Emmerdale is doing podcasts to highlight how a very wide range of eating disorders are linked to mental health.
And young people need help with their mental health now. She was 10 yrs old when she was taken to the doctor, who refused help as she wasnt low weight enough. I think she is 35 years old and trying to encourage change, in a system that hasnt changed it ways, in years.
Zoo I hope you and your dd get heard. We hear you here.

Dancingtomusic · 26/03/2021 11:26

Hi Hills- sorry you had a tough mental day yesterday. Its really good you just rested cos sometimes thats what thr mind and body needs. Hope your knee is ok.
What are you doing for crafting? I keep saying i will do knitting...but need to dig out the needles.
My kids want me to make a Easter banner...with peter rabbit on it.

Has anyone seen the funny thread of a lady who was struggling to help their mum with a new phone....🤣

Good shout hills! I shall have a look. DH does keep some of his medical stuff in its own folder.

We’ve had an easy morning, as we’ve not had any chance to play games this week DS did one bit of chemistry work and then we spent the rest of the time playing a board game called Periodic. Never tried it before (it’s been on the Shelf of Shame for over a year 😳) but it was brilliant. And I won. 😂

They certainly are waders! Eeeek re sixth form! Everything crossed for DD!

I had a quiet afternoon, I never manage a second day of high productivity (that bodes well for work Hmm). No phone call from the police yet.

I have replied to an email about a carer grant (I may be able to get a few therapy sessions paid for which would be epic), and have done some decluttering while looking (unsuccessfully 😭) for the marriage certificate. Got a pile of recycling a few inches high, mostly random sheets but the odd used up notebook etc. Just putting away all the story books from bedtime as they just get left out once we’ve read to Cagletini and found a bit of rubbish too.

This morning went pretty smoothly as I tried getting Cagletini dressed and did her hair and teeth before even going downstairs. Worked much better although had to redo her hair anyway. Now we’ve got the bedtime routine sorted I’ll try and make the morning one a habit too.

Dancing i am knitting something that has quite a complicated chart. So the knee is more fooked because apparently I like to sit crossed legged leaning forwards to read the chart. It is nice to have something that challenges the brain in a different way from everything else, for all other times a simple stockinette or garter stitch pattern (with maybe a few short rows thrown in) is always good.

Dancingtomusic · 26/03/2021 20:55

Hills....i lost my bloody reply post...🤦‍♀️

Dd and me ill....with achey cold...need a duvet day tomo...I got worried Dd was going to be sick.in her sleep..thankfully she didnt. I want a day off parentlng. I have a very long list of tadas...too drained to write it.
🍒friday evening 👋 to everyone.

shipsandgiggles · 27/03/2021 00:38

Hiya, I’ve finished work now for Easter. It’s been a super busy day here, had to rush the DC to nursery and then DS has been very needy since coming home I think some teeth are coming through god love him. DH and I are watching teen first dates, then I’ll get off to bed.

Sorry to hear you’ve been ill dancing💐 glad to hear you enjoy hearing about boating. Honestly it really was awful when I did my work experience, I’m quite small and it sounds silly but I struggle to vacuum because it’s quite heavy, and a staff member asked me to vacuum a room and when I was struggling to do it she called everyone else in to watch me and they all laughed. I left after that.

sing I’m sorry to hear about the things going on with your DD, I hope she’s okay.

Thanks mc, I do love it❤️. I had awful loss after DS, but apparently as your hair gets thicker in pregnancy you’re just losing the stuff you gained (not sure how true that is)😂

red what age did you enjoy working with the most? Wow! Your childhood sounds very exciting! I moved a lot as a child but never abroad. Sorry about the annoying DH!

Sorry to hear about your knee hills💐

I’m sorry CAMHS have been so unhelpful zoo!💖

Good luck to your DD waders!

I didn’t do any housework/boat work today, I’ve got a pounding headache. DH’s dad and step mum had their vaccine yesterday and I don’t think they’re feeling very well with it bless them.
