Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

😁💐💖

Had to tag team bedtime. Cagletini was still wide awake after stories/chat/cuddles. Even me listing elements didn’t send her off to sleep 😂 (she’d asked for a “science book” 🤔) and she got up and walked downstairs the little madam. Not great timing considering the clock change.

Caglets have sorted the unneeded confidential paperwork into piles of 5 sheets each and have both had a go at shredding it, there’s a bit left still (it’s only a cheap small machine so has a 2mins on/30mins rest rule)

Mc3209 · 27/03/2021 22:14

Double how are you feeling after your second jab?
Sing well done on getting on top of paperwork. Hoping Cagletini went to bed in the end 😊
Waders how tiring. Perhaps tomorrow can be your Nope Day. I get very grumpy when tired or when someone barges into my plans, I would have definitely snapped. I hope you got some rest.
Ships your little one is pretty much same age as my DS, who was born at the end of October.

Ta das:
💥Weeded the back garden and put one bag of bark on flower beds. I realised I got a different bark from what I have on the front lawn, so will have to utilise the second bag of the same in the back garden. Need to get same colour/type of bark to top up the front garden.
💥Folded several loads of clean landry
💥Recycling out to the bins
💥Cleaned the kitchen. DH was cooking today and the whole kitchen was splattered in oil. It was on the floor, the back splash, and even of the cupboard fronts across our decent sized kitchen. You'd think he was deep frying Mars bars or something. Nope, just sautéing the onions.. I absolutely can't stand oil splattered on the floor. I walk barefoot at home and stepping in it is just urgh 🤢
💥Mopped the floors (and degreased the kitchen floor)
💥Hoovered downstairs

Now I want to read my book.
🍒👋 to everyone!

SingToTheSky · 27/03/2021 22:16

Well I might not have achieved much since the paperwork attack, but my iCloud account is now at zero unread emails. I’m not sure that’s happened since I first got my iPad over 3 years back. 😳😂

I still need to delete more (I wish I knew how many, I can’t seem to see a total of read emails 🤔) but they are massively reduced and largely in folders for home ed, SN stuff, school, clubs etc.

Woohooooo!

SingToTheSky · 27/03/2021 22:18

And yes thank you mc DH did manage to get the little madam off to sleep with a few more stories in the low lamp light. Phew!

We are sorting the shopping order now - DH had reserved the slot with £40 of Easter eggs 😂 so just replacing most of that with actual food. (Damn.)

StillUpholding · 28/03/2021 09:29

Ah bollocks. Lost my post Hmm

I’ll try again.

clocks have gone forward. It is 9:28. (You’re welcome).

Well done on physical and digital decluttering Sing. Beautifully organised paperwork! Hope the marriage certificate turns up soon. You don’t have a digital copy anywhere? I have a scanned copy in my emails from when I’ve had to send it elsewhere previously.

Red similar here with house prices. Big houses with lots of land and fishing rights for less than a flat in London. Having said that the prices have increased dramatically recently. We bought ours 5 years ago and a similar one down the street has just gone for almost double Shock. Lots are being snapped up as holiday lets/second homes although they don’t come up for sale very often on our street (often passed down families) so we still have a good proportion of residential properties.

Waders I designate today National Day of Nope. I am in awe of you tackling the plastering. We are hitting Time to Redecorate too but we are trying not much effort required to put it off until we get our building work out the way next year.

Mc I was nodding along in understanding re oil splattered kitchen. I’ve moaned about DH on here many times before. Great cook but his real talent is spreading ingredients to all 4 corners and using every pot, pan and utensil going.

That no advice on guinea pigs other than don’t you mad lady but can we have cute fluffy pics please?

Our walk was a bit chilly yesterday and the sky was less blue by the time we got out, but it was enjoyable and nice to see some different scenery. Minimal further ta Das other than more laundry and finishing DD’s eggs for the nursery competition.

Ta das this morning:
⏰ gave up convincing DD that it wasn’t time to get up and took one for the team to give DH his turn at a lie in.
⏰ fed all needing feeding
⏰ last night’s and this morning’s dishes done
⏰ LOL
⏰ tidied and hoovered herb drawer after discovering a tarragon spillage.

Now need to get dressed and head to the supermarket. Urgh. We have defrosted a pork joint for a Sunday roast and we have no potatoes.

Sing you sound like you are getting LOADS done

Ship i think you are brave living on a boat, it would worry me

Good luck with packing Hazel!

The dc did seem to get the memo about clock changes and no one woke until after 8am (new time) thank god! I do now need to go and drag the bigger two from their pits though as they haven't emerged yet!

Dancingtomusic · 28/03/2021 09:56

Happy Sunday everyone 🍒👋

Doublechins · 28/03/2021 09:56

Only a slightly sore arm from my jab 🎉 I am extra grateful because shift was so busy yesterday we didn't even stop for a break.

Hope the wall is an easy fix waders. I would have pulled the girl card and left it for DH 🙈

Red hospital is a 130 mile round trip so if I have a couple of shits on consecutive days I just stay over but if I just have the one shift I drive it. I can claim the money for the hotel which is good.

Sing if you still aren't having any luck with the marriage certificate i think a new one is only about a tenner. Is it bad that I'm considering just ordering a new one rather than even looking 🙈
Your filing looks so neat now! Now I've scrolled on a bit I can see waders has already mentioned this 🤦‍♀️
🤣 at you reading elements to DD to get her to sleep.

Up You are a genius I may have a scanned copy of what I need from last year!

I must admit I think I cook like your DH MC kitchen looks like we've been burgled when I'm finished 🤣

I don't really have any ta-da's I was too tired to even think about cooking after yesterday's shift it was quite an emotionally draining shift too and I was exhausted so I just got McDonald's on my way home and then went to bed once I'd finished.
Not really done anything this morning either. Day and watched Ben & Holly with DS4 who was up at 6.30 7.30 and I've just done breakfast. Need to go and pick big 3 up now because they stayed at my DGM. I'm not doing a roast think I'll do fish fingers and chips for lunch and a curry (from a jar) for dinner. I'll have to get all the packed lunches made as well and then should probably consider some flying.
DH had kept on top of the washing but ironing is obviously too much for him so my ironing pile looks like 🏔

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/03/2021 10:13

waders sorry your dh is also being a 💩

My ironing pile has taken over a 3 seater sofa double

SingToTheSky · 28/03/2021 10:20

Double I’ll be slightly smug now that I wasn’t reading the elements just rattling off what I could remember 🤓😅 I couldn’t be arsed to go and get a book. DS often talks at her about science (as well as Lego, Cuphead, Minecraft etc).

She had a rough night though, woke up crying an hour after going to sleep, her leg hurt. Then woke up several times after so I just kept her in with me and DH slept downstairs. At one point I had a horrible dream about not being able to breathe, and then woke up to find she’d decided to lie right across my chest/neck 🤣

:o at the klaxon. It’s still weird to me how clocks on phones etc all change automatically - I think the only one needing to be adjusted manually is DD’s alarm clock! We don’t have any wall clocks (need to find some silent ones because DH won’t sleep with any ticking 😅). I had a lie in till 9am (so 8, really). Not too bad although still tired because of how often she woke up!

Haven’t got a digital copy of the certificate unfortunately. I might do that when we get the PC, have a copy of everything like that ready to go. We really need to sort ID though - we have been planning to do a deed poll for ages (because we both double barrelled it causes issues sometimes Hmm and I also want to officially change from my given name to the name I use daily) and we don’t have valid passports either. All this stuff is feeling a bit less daunting to sort as we get better at life admin like the filing! But it always seems like more immediate stuff crops up and needs to be dealt with first. It’s endless! I need a longer term to do list. Probably have one on my phone somewhere 😳😂

Really REALLY need to put the laundry away today, it’s ridiculous 😳

SingToTheSky · 28/03/2021 10:25

Plenty of room under the new naughty corner patio that - it has magical powers of infinite space. :o

Must print and scan a form today too.

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/03/2021 10:34

I got a digital clock because ticking is the worst. That actually updates itself. My car clock will finally be correct again. The cooker will need figuring out. I should get up and going seeing as it is half ten.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 28/03/2021 11:27

I've done the cooker clock, been out in the car but forgotten to do that one, just need to do the two manual ones we have on wall / mantelpiece. The mantelpiece one's battery went flat in the week and I CBA to change it till today but not having it for the last few days has made me realise how much we all look at it normally. The pendulum has kept going which deceives you into think it's working.

Need to go and put away food shopping .

SingToTheSky · 28/03/2021 11:30

Our cooker and microwave clocks are never set anyway, as both are off by the plug when not in use (we are far too scatty to risk leaving the oven on! 😳)

I haven’t done anything of use so far today except push the Caglets to move their laundry along.

No need to apologise waders ‘tis what we are here for!

Today is brought to you by the word NOPE. Haven’t done a damn thing. Oh well, as DH rightly pointed out it’s Sunday. 🙈

HazelNuttyElf · 28/03/2021 17:56

waders well done on plastering the wall, I'm impressed! Have to laugh at waderhound, my dog hides when we're going to give her a bath 🤣
Sing it's nice to have a day off, enjoy it!
Double I have to laugh at your auto correct for changing shifts to shits 🤣😂 and mine just wants to put shots instead!
We had our time change about 2 weeks ago, this week was hard for me to wake up, but I did have a few days off the week before. I feel your pain.

Ta Das today so far:
🐞 Cooked DH breakfasts for the week
🐞 Cleaned up kitchen
🐞 Skyped mum
🐞 Surviving so far - DD is driving us to go see BIL for his birthday (about 1 1/2 hours away) we have about an hour to go 🤞 for us, although she's a good driver, it's the other drivers I worry about

It's almost 11am, it'll only be a short trip, going to have lunch with him and his DC then head back.
We will also look at fridges on our way back and see what they can do for us so we have a fridge for our new house.
🍒👋 to everyone

shipsandgiggles · 28/03/2021 19:01

Hi I didn’t manage to get on yesterday, DS has been very grumpy with his teeth. He’s been nursing almost constantly which has been exhausting. DH has took DD out for the day which has been a nice break, I made some breast milk ice cubes which has helped DS loads so hopefully he feels better soon. I’m so tired now though, I tandem nurse and DD always wants to nurse more when DS does as she gets jealous so I have been nursing almost constantly. DH has done the housework and cooking though to make up for it.

Oh hazel that does sound very tiring! I’m lucky to only work term time, I’m not sure I could cope doing anything else!. You’ve done loads on your home too, I’m glad you’re feeling more at ease with it now!

red aw I bet that was lovely being with the same class for so many years!. That’s terrible that people didn’t close the gate! So careless.

It wasn’t nice dancing but it did teach me to stand up for myself. I don’t take any rubbish now!.

waders I’d definitely recommend boat life! Especially if your DS is okay with small spaces😂 I’m glad you’re feeling better after a big sleep! No need to apologise for ranting, we all need to do it sometimes.

That’s filing porn sing! I wish I was that organised.

mc aw lovely, DS was born in November, how are you finding life with your little one? I love this age. My DH is the same with the kitchen! Sometimes I’d just rather cook myself because of the mess.

I’m glad your walk went well up, I’m hoping to go on a long one with the kids some time next week!

that I’m glad your DC got the memo about the clocks, mine didn’t, we were up at 4😂

I’m glad your vaccine went well double!

May I join the naughty corner? I have done absolutely nothing😂

SingToTheSky · 28/03/2021 19:05

Organisation porn :o love it

I actually feel like I’ve earned a day to chill today. I have managed a lot this week compared to my usual levels - so many forms etc and the decluttering even if physically I’ve barely moved. Whereas usually I waste a lot more mental energy procrastinating. I think my brain just went “yep ok I’m done now” 😂

Just showered and I WILL put the clothes away dammit. No idea what time Cagletini will sleep today.

Mc3209 · 28/03/2021 21:51

Hope everyone had a good Sunday 😊
Waders I am impressed with your DIY skills. I wouldn't know where to begin with plastering a wall. Would need a lot of YouTube, me.
Sing weekend is for guilt free relaxation!
Ships it's my first, so I didn't know what to expect. I am loving motherhood, a lot more than I thought I would. I love spending time with my little one, I think bracing myself for possible deep horrors of parenthood when I was pregnant made me appreciate the reality much more.
Hope your little one feels better with his teeth. That is a good idea with breast milk ice cubes. No teeth on a horizon here yet, but I shall note this for later. My DS is just drooling for England, but otherwise OK and no teeth cutting through.
Hazel how was the drive?

Ta das (mainly revolving around servicing living things):
💥Aquariums maintenance x3
💥Indoor plants watered/dusted/tidied/checked over
💥Bathroom blitzed. I need to get better at S&S.. It's just not really happening properly outwith 'blitzing' sessions
💥Ordered a shrub to plant in the back garden
💥LOL x2
💥DH rotated DW

Now it's book and bedtime.

SingToTheSky · 28/03/2021 22:02

Well I didn’t get the clothes done before dinner after all and by the time we had pudding (DH and Cagletini made apple parcel thingies, just ready roll pastry but OMG so yum) it was time for her bath etc. Late to sleep especially as she had a hair wash (still scared of the dryer) but maybe she won’t wake up quite so early tomorrow?!

Have sorted the clothes in the living room instead. Now for the fun task of taking it all upstairs to put away and I haven’t done the hanging stuff yet. I should raid the odd sock bag too 😳 I’m so glad the big two Caglets do their own laundry! They both have two loads to put away tomorrow though, in their own baskets.

God I’m boring myself now sorry 😂🧺😴

I’m also sulking as I haven’t watched today’s line of duty yet! Nooooo!
