Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Hi

We are getting a greenhouse. It is having a flag base. That is all I am saying.

I am a great aunt again. My sister’s first grandchild. Her eldest had a little boy yesterday morning. I didn’t see the message in fact I don’t think it was there until I picked the phone up in the afternoon.

MC your little one is nearly 6 months😳

Sing amazing decluttering and sorting paperwork.

Waders I have a spare spade! Great plastering.
DH took the paint up and wanted me to paint some undercoat, then it some paint samples on just after I came back from church. I have already done about 8 near the door. I just said ‘ On a Sunday?’ I haven’t done it.
We had a very small piece of lamb for Sunday Roast. Enough for today and a sandwich tomorrow. It was from the freezer.

Double that is great the hotel is paid. Quite a drive after a long shift. Can I ask why tongue tie isn’t done straight away especially if mum wants to breast feed? How long before it is usually done? Baby good weight. 7lb 9oz.
Ships they were my favourite class in all the time I worked there. I just taught them one afternoon a week but went on the trips with them and occasionally had them for the day or half day if their teacher was off.
That You and me both. Difficult when you have the children and trying to studying never mind being pregnant. You just feel like giving them a good kick up the butt.

Taking a photo of birth and marriage certificates is a good idea. Not sure where mine are. DH sometimes moves stuff like this. It p...me off as he doesn’t say, so I would have no idea if something happened to him.

Hazel hope you enjoyed lunch you deserve a day off.

Yesterday I walked up to see best pal and her homemade greenhouse by her DS2. It is amazing and so cute. He made it out of the windows from a old pre fab knocked down on the farm. The farmer and his wife have had a new house built. The views are amazing. We had a SD cup of tea with BF and her sister, who used to live in the village, outside on the car park.BF saw two hares boxing the other day. They are getting a lot of deer up there. It was very cold on the way back and started to sleet. Been cold today and a lot of rain early on. The road was nearly flooded again.

Busy day tomorrow

Stuff in the hall needs to find a home.
Paint samples on the wall.
Back door needs gloss on the bars if it is dry.
Loft is getting insulated for free. Don’t know if they are doing all of it.
Decorator is coming Tuesday morning. At this rate the builder will turn up, the man who has been making a coal bunker and wood store and the last two tiles.

Doublechins · 29/03/2021 06:19

Red it's not done at birth because lots of babies with a tongue tie don't have any issues from it even if they're breastfeeding so it's to avoid an unnecessary procedure. In the trust where I am babies must have two feeding assessments first so they're sure the baby is having issues before they'll do it.

Just waiting to go on for my shift. It's already 11.5 degrees so think it's going to be a nice day except for the rain. Snow forecast for next week though 😩

Not worth doing a ta-da list for yesterday because I didn't get anywhere near as much as I wanted done.

Hope everyone has a good start to the week.

Redsquirrel5 · 29/03/2021 07:20

Bbbbrrrrr! It isn’t here cold and very wet. The rain has been lashing against the window most of the night. It is very windy too as I can hear it and we have double glazing now. The old Victorian windows used to rattle in their casings.

Thanks Double that was quick. He is struggling to feed but she did get a bottle into him apparently, kept in because of it. It will be a shame if she ends up bottle feeding because of it. He is booked in for procedure just made me wonder why he needs bringing back and she will worry about feeding when they could get it done quickly. It was quicker to ask you than go looking for my NNEB notes which will be out of date now. She will be going home to my sisters as dad is working and living abroad. They had to cancel wedding last year and I think they have to be married before she can join him. He had booked time off for due date. Baby obeyed orders and came morning after.😃

Hope you have a good shift. My friend in the village became a midwife I was child minding then and he husband was four days on four off so I had them from 7am some days. She had four under five. So baby was about fifteen months when he started and the others were all at our village Primary with my DS3. They moved when she she got a job in Newcastle special care. She was a very clever girl unfortunately not with us any longer. She said it was her dream job babies, babies all day long. She was on the ward when I had DD wanted me to ring her but DD was born at 1:45am so we didn’t she was disappointed but she got to look after DD because I was really poorly as I had a fit just after she was born. I had to stay in delivery room for 24 hrs. That mucked up some plans and DDs best friend has her birthday on the 6th instead of the 5th like DD.Mum was CS. Her friend reminds her every year. 🤣 she says they met in hospital if anyone asks😂

Well must get up soon. DH said he was going to wake me up early. I have been sleeping in. So thought it would be funny if I am already up. Only had five hours 💤 a joy to some though Zoo!

I forgot to add ironing to the pile of chores. Will send Ted up to you Thatif he turns up today. Two households or six people! Strange cos they could all be from different households it seems but suits us as we can have all DS’s over except garden only and it is persisting down and looks set in. Maybe Easter Sunday😂that would be different meal in the garden! Tatty byes till later must beat him up. As in up first I am not violent 🤪

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/03/2021 08:09

Ty red

Man child has been on form this morning

Eldest two dc have been on go slow

Just love mondays Angry

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 08:32

Could someone else provide the milk though as ours went sour! 🤬

Rough night here, for some reason I couldn’t sleep till about 4 - I could understand being a bit delayed due to the clock change but that was a bit extreme Hmm I got up for a bit during that time. Cagletini not up till late.

90min till therapy session, first since mid December and I’m looking forward to it as lots of positive news to share, I still wish it wasn’t over zoom though. Need to eat some toast, shower and make myself vaguely presentable 😳 and then go through my notes from last time. Oh and work out optimal seating/tablet position for the meeting 😂

Dancingtomusic · 29/03/2021 09:10

Any had a 'samsung washing' - 'beep' and flash 'Sc' at them?
I will cry if my washing machine breaks. Its currently stuck with a double duvet cover and bedsheet soaked inside.

Dancingtomusic · 29/03/2021 09:10

I am praying I havent blocked the washing machine with Dh's teeny, tiny earphones, if i have...(Please let it be in the filter. Please let it be in the filter.....)

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 11:08

Well gosh darn it if that wasn’t the loveliest session I’ve ever had 🥰 I feel really great after that. Must write some notes down so I don’t forget 🥰

Congrats on great-aunthood red 💐

Well done on channelling that anger that (although sorry there’s a need for it of course) when I’m angry I just sit and sulk 😳😂

Good luck fixing the washer dancing

StillUpholding · 29/03/2021 11:15

Happy Monday Folks.

Just skim read to catch up while I’m taking a little break at work. Intended to post last night when I went up to bed at about 9pm. Woke up at 5 with my phone in my hand Grin.

Congratulations Red! DD had a very bad tongue tie - they spotted it when I was in recovery after my CS as it was so obvious. We had issues with feeding from the start (my poor nipples bore the brunt) and a referral was made straight away, but I think there are limited areas that snip them - I was sent to another trust and if I remember rightly we waited 2 weeks. We went on to Bf til she was nearly 2 so hopefully it works out for the new Mum if that’s what she’s wanting.

Good luck with therapy Sing, homework Waders and washing machine fixing Double. Noticed this morning that our DW isn’t draining but I left that for DH.

YesTaDas:
☀️ all downstairs dusted, hoovered and mopped
☀️ cooked the Sunday roast and cleared up (left what wouldn’t fit in DW for DH)
☀️ cleaned dining table
☀️ ironing done and all clean laundry away
☀️ bathroom cleaned
☀️ gutted DD’s room, cleaned her window and dusted
☀️ supermarket trip, shopping away whilst tidying fridge and larder, Easter eggs hidden from the rest of the inhabitants.

Today we enter zone 5 (will have to put some effort in here, mine is grubby) but only until Thursday when we are back to zone 1. I think.

Sneak peek for the week is here

Right. Back to work. Happy flying!

Dancingtomusic · 29/03/2021 13:14

Happy monday Up
Hope you have a good day at work.

2hrs draining the bottom of the washing machine is a emergency manual drain tube. Lots of mini floods 🤦‍♀️
The filter was sooo full, i struggled to get it out. It was full of rusty clips, rusty mini cars, cardboard, clothing labels, beads and lint. Omg. 🙈🙈🙈🙈🤦‍♀️
I hv put it on spin now.

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/03/2021 14:35

Urgh. I should probably clean the washing machine filter at some point.

People are being peopley. I have managed to half clean the kitchen. I need to do the rest when this load of the dish washer is done.

I can't believe it is almost April!

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 14:42

I’m wondering how bad our filter is too!

Haven’t done much this afternoon. Going to be a long week as DH is on Easter bunny duty all over town Monday to Friday 🙄😂

Minimal work for DS as they stayed out of the house while I had my appt. He quipped that the word “Heraclean” sounded like an Ancient Greek cleaning product so I’m now making him design a poster ad for it 🤣

Redsquirrel5 · 29/03/2021 15:36

🤷🏼‍♀️🙈🙈🙈🙊 wonder how that happened Dancing little people and pockets. Hopefully all sorted. Might be another job to add to kitchen list when it comes around. I would email and tell her she has forgotten to put it on the list.

Up that is good to know. Mum and new mum are close and the baby DSis went to nanny for is now a breast feeding counsellor for a huge area so they are going to contact her. Great that you were able to feed and for so long.
Sing so pleased it went for you. Angry cleaning can be great. You are still p*** with them but you have a clean room/ house🏡 depending on how angry 😤 you are.
That 🧹 it’s all I could find.
Waders yeah 6’x 8’ room for two under there but think That might be wanting the space.

Ships tandem feeding would be hard work and sap your energy glad he is stepping up.

Hazel hoped you have recovered. My eldest two are better drivers than me and the younger two don’t drive.

TA DA
I was up about an hour earlier than DH.
I started with blurred vision after breakfast and had an awful migraine.
I ended up going back to bed for an hour as my vision was so bad. So annoying I wanted to get loads done.
Anyway the men turned up, were very polite and did the loft in about 1/2 hour. I have never seen anyone move down a ladder so quick ...when I might have mentioned the 🦇 and the other one hates 🐝wasps and there was one up there.
Still trying to chose a paint colour and DH has passed the job onto me now that he doesn’t like the chalky pinks anymore.
Painted the bar on the door. One more sand down and coat again the finished but need to do the frame.
Made the base of chocolate mint slice but discovered I must have decluttered the probably out of date peppermint essence.
LOL towels.
S&S bathroom.

Need to get off this as headache returning.

Dancingtomusic · 29/03/2021 17:11

Red- hope your blurry eyes are ok now and your migraine is gone.

waders thank you so much for advising me it was 5c code and you inspired me into having a go at fixing the problem- after hearing you did plastering yesterday!

Feel abit meh, and upset drowning in my house. Hoping cuppa tea and program best house in town will help.

Mc3209 · 29/03/2021 17:29

Dancing glad you managed to sort the washing machine out! You've inspired me to check our filter.. Will do that tonight. In fact, I think I will do a wee filter spring clean of all devices with filters.
Hope you feel better soon.
Red congratulations on a lovely addition to your family! Hope your migraine goes away soon.
Waders and Red, I can't believe I have an almost 6 months old myself.
That 12-14 weeks! How exciting is that! How do you feel about it? Are you ready?

Not much flying today. Just usual kitchen clean up, LOL, and DW rotation.

I found my little leather jacket today and thought I would give it a whirl since the weather is warming up. Even found one of my favourite lipsticks in the locker. Well, I could only partially close it over my milky boobs (let's call it Fashion..), wore it with my usual leggings and was feeling quite bees knees until half way down the street I realised I am sporting a whooping VPL (courtesy of my post section compression pants which I occasionally like to wear to give my newly acquired mom pouch some shape). Gah.

Also, on unrelated topic. Am I mad for wanting a nursing chair now? For various reasons, we are planning to keep McTiny's cot in our bedroom for few months yet. He is currently sleeping in Next2Me crib, which is handy, I don't need to get out of bed to feed overnight. He is approaching maximum weight limit for that and will be transitioning into a cot soon. And I want to get a nursing chair as well, so I don't have to perch on the bed for feeding once he is in his cot. Also, I want to establish a habit of reading time, me and him cuddled in that chair with a book. We have space in the bedroom for both (cot easily, nursing chair - I will need to do a bit of furniture rejigging, but it should work). Please tell me I am not going to waste money/space on buying it.

Mc3209 · 29/03/2021 17:30

Locker? Wtf. Pocket. Lipstick was in a pocket.

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 17:38

Oh if you can afford and have space for it you should totally get one mc! I would have loved one. 😍 I’m assuming if they’re official nursing chairs they’ll all have the safety features, some “rocking” chairs have a weird base that can trap tiny fingers, IIRC.

Argh. Cagletini fell asleep. Dammit. Oh well I am spending the afternoon binging on ITV hub anyway, can’t wait for the Unforgotten finale tonight! :o

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/03/2021 17:57

mc nursing chair sounds like an ok purchase to me, and you may use it for more dc in the future Grin

Redsquirrel5 · 29/03/2021 18:40

Sounds a good idea to me too MC I would get ones with arms I think in case I nodded off. I would check it had scotch guard or similar in case of sick. Locker - I thought you had gone to the gym, tennis, swimming? 🤣

That goodness not that long to go. Hope everything goes well not a lot of point saying get some rest but think of your blood pressure and legs up if matching socks, folding clothes etc.

Bloody migraine still hanging about the vision is just impaired on the proliferation. Feel very tired.

shipsandgiggles · 29/03/2021 21:21

What a beautiful day today was! Tomorrow’s meant to be even better as well. DH is back at work, so I took the kids for a long walk and a picnic today. We went to the river and they paddled their feet. DS is a little bit better, still quite clingy but better. Our bubble joined us on our walk, hopefully next week my dad will come down with my sisters as they’ll be off for Easter. If tomorrow ends up as hot as it’s meant to be I might put a paddling pool on our mooring for the kids.

mc I’m glad motherhood isn’t going well for you! I just say DS is a lot easier than DD, I was pleasantly surprised😂. DS’s teeth still haven’t really cut through but you can see they will soon. Breast milk ice cubes are a life saver!

Congratulations on becoming a great aunt again red! Lovely weight as well, mine were 7lbs 11oz and 8lbs 5oz, I had a friend who’s baby was 5lbs 1oz and I thought I was going to break them I liked that mine had a bit of chunk to them it stopped me stressing too much😂Glad you had a nice day with your best friend yesterday 🙂. DH is great really, he isn’t the best at housework but he’s a brilliant dad so I try not to complain too much, especially as I’m not a very good cook! I hope you’re feeling better💐

sing I hope you get more sleep tonight! I hate nights when you just can’t sleep. I’m glad to hear your session went well!

Thanks waders, tandem feeding definitely takes it out of you. DH is brilliant which does help!

that as horrible as it is to feel angry I do find an angry clean makes all the difference!. DH knows to keep very far away from me when I pop my independent women playlist on and get the polish out😂

dancing I don’t want to even think about our filter🤢.

mc I’d definitely get a nursing chair if you have the space! DS is also in a next to me crib, I’m having a look to see if I can get something bigger for when he reaches maximum weight as the kids bedroom has just been done out but it has bunk beds/cabin sort of things. So there’s 2 little cabins on either side for the DC, currently DD sleeps in our bed and DS in the next to me crib but when DS gets to about 1 he can go in the cabin with a bed guard as that will cover the whole entrance. We don’t have room for a cot really, so I want to keep him in our room until he’s able to go in his own. Sometimes I feel silly for doing the kids room the way it’s been done, but it gives us loads of storage space and it’ll last them for years and saves us having to redo a room when the little one outgrows his cot.

It’s an early night here tonight. Tandem feeding hasn’t been so full on, DD is back to her usual routine of a bedtime feed and a couple during the day for comfort. DH bought a skateboard recently and that came today, I think he’s going through his midlife crisis early😂 he’s been up and down the car park on it, at least it gets him out of my hair for a bit!. I’ve just done a face mask so I’m feeling very pampered.

ta da
