Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Not yet hills

Doublechins · 20/03/2021 13:57

I know what you mean about the shops zoo. They get crazy and all round here have up with the queues ages ago. I'm also going to have to face them at some point today.

Hope you're feeling better soon dancing & hope the congestion eases soon that.

I've don't my census hills. Bloody hell it's hard work when there's a few of you in the house. Some of the questions were ridiculous as well. It asked if each child was both mine and DH's and even though I'd said they all were I then had to put their relationship to each other. Surely if you know they all share the same biological parents you can work out they are siblings 🤔 🤦‍♀️

Up I'm on shift on good Friday but Easter Sunday we are going to my DGM for egg hunt and a roast. She asked yesterday what meat and I said I would prefer pork over lamb. I will probably make buy pudding as my contribution.

Have done a full home bleurgh and changed beds so feeling more on top of things. Have a LOL on the line and another one in and also have some ironing to do. Oh and meal plan and shop at some point which I suppose means I'll have to get dressed.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/03/2021 14:04

I think i have a cold, suspect one of my lovely lot has brought it home from school and given it to me, you know me the one who cant take any pissing cold meds right now 😭

StillUpholding · 20/03/2021 14:09

Took me 10 mins in total for the 3 of us That, it’s very quick for DC.

StillUpholding · 20/03/2021 14:14

Oh just saw your post about the census Double, that’s frustrating that you have to confirm each relationship - there were just 3 boxes to tick on that front for me. Definitely bought puddings here too!

Zoo my fave page was the Spagyeti! :o DD1’s was the choctopus as she did a funny octopus impression at that age.

Not done census yet. Or various other admin things, except I have finally sent off the email to CAMHS with all the info requested. This has involved finding and downloading two reports, getting two email addresses for them to contact, completing a questionnaire, and then booking a couple of online workshops about things that I am frankly quite likely not to learn a huge amount from (having been in the autism world for at least ten years one does pick up rather a lot...) but the way camhs works is one must do these things to show engagement.

DD1 is making a cosplay. I’ll be doing a few more online forms in a minute, just quick ones but I need DH’s tablet as it involves word documents. I have a bigger one for OU to do but it’s not urgent so I’ll delay that until after census and the dreaded PIP renewal I’ve been ignoring.

Hills thank you so much for the reply re jobs 💐 that’s a good idea (again I wrote food idea!) - it is going to take many years to qualify in the field I really want (as just the degree will take 6 years) but I still need something in the meantime, and it would be great to have something better paid if I could qualify for it cheaply/free and not take away from my longer term plans IYSWIM. I quite like the idea of reception/admin stuff as well (my own life admin is shocking yes but I’m surprisingly efficient at sorting other stuff! Our support worker said the same about herself too 😂). I liked the customer query stuff in the library. In any case it’s only 16h they can make me do which is great although I guess that will limit what’s available even without covid to contend with. Sigh

Zoo that’s so sad about the neighbour :(

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/03/2021 15:27

Currently making hot cross buns for Easter, will freeze them until then. This year we are planning on natural dying some eggs (i have red cabbage and tumeric anyway)
Mostly we do precisely nothing. There is some chocolate and a roast dinner but that is all.

I have a migraine today. It has not put me in a good mood and I am struggling to do everything on my to do list. Mostly i want to sit in the corner with a good book and some cake Blush after all adulting is hard and laundry never ending

HazelNuttyElf · 20/03/2021 15:36

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It seems that every year it feels less and less exciting/ special, I can't think of the actual word, but I know you'll know what I mean.
Sing good luck on the job hunt
zoo I have to do my food shop too and not looking forward to it. I think I can get away with grocery pick up if I do it early enough.

KCC
Easter in our house is pretty much the same every year, on Sunday I warm up a ham in the slow cooker, make rolls (that I can't eat anymore), make some kind of dessert, cupcakes or similar, usually a lemon flavour. We hide eggs outside if it's nice, usually takes a while to put chocolates (like mini eggs) into plastic eggs, and we hard boil some and decorate them with the DC on Saturday so they're all ready for Sunday.
That's really about it, nothing too fancy, although I do decorate the house a bit for Easter, thinking about doing that today actually.

Ta Das so far today (is 9:30am here):
🐰 Had my first cup of coffee
🐰 Put our comforter in the washer (duvet with cover attached and cannot be removed - it's a job to clean it)
that's it so far!

To do:
🐣 Shopping list/ meal plan for the week
🐣 Bake German chocolate cake for FIL (his birthday was the 18th)
🐣 Bake something I can eat - I have lemons so might make my lemon loaf
🐣 Go buy boxes since we have ran out and more things need packing up asap
🐣 Pack up said things
🐣 Ironing, so I can put all my clothes away
🐣 Go to the realtor office to sign paperwork and get our house listed on the market
🐣 Do grocery shopping/ pick up
🐣 Make mashed potatoes and something else to go with dinner, FIL is bringing the meat

Phew! I think there's more, but I don't want to think about that right now. First things first, I'm going to get myself a 2nd cup of coffee!

SingToTheSky · 20/03/2021 15:47

Easter isn’t really a thing in our house tbh.

Question - how does one manage household admin without throwing various tablets and computers etc out of windows? Hmm

It’s driving me batshit - sooo much faff with file types and permissions and aaaaargh

The time passes so fast wafers...
We used to go to church good Friday(we did Maundy Thursday couple of times before lockdown started) dd2 did a festival of light on the Saturday twice with others(it's a late night one) Sunday we did sometimes- can get too busy/loud for D's
Egg hunt with clues

Was weird not doing church last year.there is minimum contact church this year- reflection and open church Thursday, stations of the crossFriday.not sure if sunday.we haven't really kept up with worship as I'm crap with online stuff.i have offered to clean church before EasterI just waiting for Berger get back to me with the time on Monday before.i find quite therapeutic cleaning a space with no clutter,a paint brush/toothbrush for ornate woodwork and I enjoy doing all the brass til it's gleaming.i usually leave a smell of polish and lemon floor wipes in my wake.i need to check this year if it's just a good clean or whether I need to upgrade to Dettol wipes and disinfect as most of our community are elderly

3lol done,dry and put away
More in progress

Nothing else
Joint hurt, esp fingers and toes and everything seems tender.no idea wtf I've done, but feeling quite sorry for myself!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/03/2021 17:47

Who the hell is wafers?!ShockBlush
Huge apologies w.a.d.e.r.s

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/03/2021 17:48

Verger,not Berger

SingToTheSky · 20/03/2021 18:29

Lots of admin done now:

  • sent email with 2 reports, completed questionnaire and email addresses, and booked workshops
  • filled in and returned ILP from my last course
  • printed, signed and scanned photo permission form
  • digitally signed and returned volunteer and confidentiality forms (this took a ridiculously long time because technology!)

Have I adulted enough for today? 😇

ExponentiallyDepleted · 20/03/2021 19:00

Census done

Doublechins · 20/03/2021 19:44

Migraines are horrendous hills hope it passes soon.

Sing I often want to throw the laptop or my phone out of the window when I try to do things.

Finished my ironing. Didn't make it to the shops but have written a list ready for tomorrow. This meant that the chicken and salad I had planned for dinner became chicken, waffles and beans. Going to go in the bath in a bit then I'll have to find something to do because DH is watching football. Not happy because I started watching orphan black last night and I'm dying to watch the next one.

HazelNuttyElf · 21/03/2021 07:09

Double my DH generally hogs the TV as well, but playing on the Xbox. I feel your pain.
Sing it looks like you have done plenty of adulting today.
zoo I hope your joints feel better soon. I know the weather can play a part in how your joints are. Do you have wet or cold right now?
waders thank you for the birthday wishes. I hope you get help with the fence whatever you end up going with

Ta Das today Saturday
🍰 Baked German chocolate cake for FIL. I didn't have any even though it's my favourite as well, but I did save some frosting so I can add it to my own mug cake
🍰 Placed order for grocery pick up, picked them up later in the afternoon
🍰 Got some boxes closed up ready for the storage unit. DH & DS took said boxes over there and discovered rain was getting in, so we have a wet floor in there. DH have his key to the maintenance guy whose going to try to fix it
🍰 Met with our realtor, went over inspection report, made a list of things that need doing, now we have to wait for them to get back to us on what, if anything, they'll fix
🍰 Also sorted out our listing and signed papers for that too, it'll be listed on Monday after all
🍰 Went over to the house to see in person the things that need repairing, also measured to make sure we can easily put in a garage we can!
🍰 Prepared veggies for dinner, had ILs come over, FIL was bringing the meat dish and mashed potatoes

Now I'm starting to stress a little about getting the house ready for Monday. DH did bring home some boxes though so I'll start packing them up first thing in the morning. I also still need to do my ironing 🤦‍♀️
I plan to have the house completely staged by tomorrow night, including making our bed look all fancy, so it can be reproduced Monday morning by DH as I leave the house before he wakes up.

🍒👋 to everyone

Mc3209 · 21/03/2021 07:16

Sing well done on adulting 😊
Zoo what a lovely way to volunteer for your community.

Aloeha how are you doing, lovely?

💥Hoovered downstairs
💥Tidied kitchen
💥LOLx2

Will do a bit of home bleughing and have a closer look at zone missions/detail clean.
🍒👋 to everyone!

Mc3209 · 21/03/2021 07:20

Cross post Hazel
House moves are stressful (I think on par with divorces and deaths. Don't ask me for a reference though). I belive in you! Think of your lovely new home and how soon you will be nesting there 😊

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/03/2021 07:23
Stilllivinginazoo · 21/03/2021 07:25

X posts MC and nods enthusiastically at her post for hazel
Couldn't put it better!

Mc3209 · 21/03/2021 07:40

Zoo re lump, if it is on a joint, then yes, it can be a sign of arthritis (and even then, there is an array of lumps and bumps that can go with that).
To get through to GP, I would suggest mentioning that your joint pain is getting worse recently, you are struggling to do what you were able to before, and you are worried about it (which you are). That should, hopefully, get you at least a virtual review where you can then send a photo.
