Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

I am so exhusted. In bed.

I delivered my stuff to donate to the lady from school. She was happy to take it all for her daughters and has family and friends that always need stuff.
She was really nice to chat to and I am so glad I gave her all of it.
Phew, i can try sort my sitting room out tomo.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/03/2021 20:15

Sorry about the 37.5 hour day Double that is really hard. hope you can get some good rest tonight

Dancing hope you get a good restful night tonight too,

I has worked well enough that i have not had to take pain killers and i have been clearing fluorescent snot from my sinuses most the day Blush I suspect another day or so of the tea and i will be back to function. Must admit couldn't face the stuff at lunch so have not had full dosage. But glad can escape the doctors for now.

Not much flying flying has been done. But I have just started planning for the next quarter because yep added more to the overextend myself list. Will try and dip in and out but no promises moving forwards. I need to discover military style organisation and productivity levels. Yikes.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/03/2021 20:45

hills I'm impressed you have managed to see things off at the passwith the sinus probs.wretched things...
Double bed.no arguements.and schedule rest in for at least part of tom

Good luck with C test singhopefully just toddler snotfest brewing

Well I was busy and haven't heard gurgling but the freshly laundered stuff seems drier,so I'm hopeful.will be cleaning kitchen tom so can keep eye out for any water backing up into sink

4loads done(2small,2loads towels)
All done, dry fold and put away

SingToTheSky · 19/03/2021 21:17

What do you do when you have loads of forms to fill in etc?

Obviously you start finally writing a lot of notes for the novel you’ve wanted to write for years.

Oh well. Cagletini is asleep, DS finished scouts, I need painkillers as the sicky headache is back.

DD1’s tutor emailed back, I feel reassured this will be dealt with.

Mc3209 · 19/03/2021 21:53

Double I'd say you need to catch up on sleep. Hope you have a good rest. Sorry to hear about isolation and homeschooling.
Sing fingers crossed test will be negative.
Hills I hope you feel better soon.

Had my jab today, and starting to feel a bit under the weather. I think I shall retire to bed and take it easy this weekend.

Ta das:
💥LOLX3
💥A pile of clean and dry laundry folded and put away (from previous LOLs)
💥Walk

Kitchen is a mess, bathroom need a swish, but I am choosing not to focus on those details at the moment. Will do them on Sunday.

Dancingtomusic · 19/03/2021 23:32

Mc- glad you have had the jab. Yes, do rest and take it easy as you have mctiny to look after too. Films on the sofa weekend, with lots of teas and biscuits.

Mc3209 · 20/03/2021 01:15

Dancing well done on giving away loads of stuff. It's a lovely feeling to know it is appreciated, and the decluttered space must feel good too!
Zoo impressed with your WM troubleshooting. Fingers crossed it behaves for you. Reminds me I really need to put the drawer of my WM through a DW..
Foxes how did you get on with de-moulding your Windows? I had a look at mine, and I need to do same.
Sing oh, novel! How exciting! I wish I could write. What genre is it going to be?

HazelNuttyElf · 20/03/2021 03:30

37.5 hours double that sounds very rough.
hills Hopefully you can get over your sinus infection quickly

My birthday didn't really feel like a birthday, but I was focused on other things. The DC did clean the house for me while I was at work for a couple of house today, so that was nice. I made some chocolate covered Strawberries for me the neighbour. I sorted the pantry out a bit more too.

We got the inspection back for the new house, there's a couple things that would need to be addressed, like slow drains. We had that problem last year of backup and don't want to deal with it again. We met with our realtor tomorrow to figure out the next step.

The DC put together a scavenger hunt for my gifts, so that was fun! We went out for dinner as well, was hoping for Texas roadhouse, but it's new so a 2 hour wait, so olive garden it was.

Still more to do in the house, we need more boxes though, looks like I'll have to view the bullet and buy some 😖

🍒👋 to everyone

Mc3209 · 20/03/2021 05:44

Happy Birthday, Hazel! 🎉🎉🎉🎂🎊🎁 I know it doesn't feel very festive with a to-do list longer than your arm, but it is truly a new chapter in the book, new house and all! Scavenger hunt and a meal out sounds lovely😊

MrsTidyHouse · 20/03/2021 06:18

The last bulb blew in the sitting-room where the six feet space between back of settee and the wall is crammed with bags and boxes waiting for restrictions to be lifted. The ceiling light-fitting is too high for me. After blundering about with a torch for a while, I remembered the table lamps that had been sitting on the kitchen floor for months. And yesterday's hunt for lightbulbs had resulted in two that actually work. The room looks as lot nicer now.

To Do Today

Huge amount of Stuff to shift, sort, tidy, bag, from garage and shed. Cannot continue much longer surrounded by constant reminders of how messy I was in the past, and this will be the weekend that I get on top of it all. Have totally ignored FLYing for several weeks now, and need toget back to that routine.

StillUpholding · 20/03/2021 08:04

You sound very determined today Tidy! It sounds like you’ve made so much progress recently.

Sing your DD1 sounds like a tough cookie, well done to her for standing up for herself. I giggled at your novel planning procrastination Grin

Hope enduring that medicinal concoction has paid off Hills and the sinuses are clearer this morning.

Slightly belated happy birthday Hazel! Next year hopefully you will be all settled in your lovely new home and can have more of a celebration.

Hurrah for getting rid of all the unwanted bits to a good home Dancing

Double did I read that right that you even managed to make a cake after your night shift?! You are a machine. Hope you get to rest today.

Hope you escape any nasty side effects Mc. It’s so lovely to hear of more and more people getting the vaccine. Fingers crossed for the rest of you to be sorted soon. There’s just DH and my BIL left in our family I think, we’ve been really lucky in this area plus lots of us work in healthcare.

I’m impressed with your WM repair efforts Zoo

Waves to Waders, That, Hope, ED, Merry, Foxes, Chic, SC and I’m sure I’ve missed someone but don’t want to lose my essay Grin

DH is working all this weekend so flying will be difficult while entertaining DD. We’ve just polished off some bunny crumpets, and we are having a lazy morning as she’s still a bit snotty. I’m thinking possibly a walk along the river and some Easter crafts today. I’ve put a LOL in (bedding I stripped off last weekend Blush)

I did manage some ta Das yesterday before leaving for work:
🖊 2 min tidy in every room
🖊 s&s
🖊 put away a weeks worth of clean laundry
🖊 emptied DW and hand washed a few bits
🖊 wrapped new baby gift and packaged a return
🖊 15 mins yoga

I also did a top up supermarket shop on my way home from work. We’ll see what I can manage today.

foxessocks · 20/03/2021 08:07

MC they look better I think although still a few bits I just can't get out, I haven't tried the hair clip tip yet that's my next attempt! The toothbrush with mould spray on got the majority off and cotton bud in the corners.
I'm also going to remember to air the rooms as much as possible.

Double hope you have now had some sleep

Sing well done to your dd for speaking up about the boys behaviour. And sorry to hear you're isolating again.

Hazel happy birthday!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/03/2021 08:37

hope you not feeling too lousy lovely

Tidy hurrah for being able to find lamps!good progress being made!
Foxeswish I could get mould off my bathroom it's actually "in" the grout I think.council aren't doing anything that's not falling apart/major problems at moand I'm not good enough to be able to change that!how's the kitchen coming along?

Sing procrastination level upGrinwe had similar with dd2 yesterday-- a macgyver edit was far more important than an a level history essay.i must admit she was highly anxious and capacity to think straight wonky.i did Have Words still as don't want her copping out and getting even further behind

I should be halfway thru Saturday shop by now, except dd2 has been refusing help with shop a lot lately and lack exposure means massive meltdown of anxiety.last hour of yelling at me,pacing and general unpleasantness..I know it's bloody hard,I have to do exactly the same thing a lot,but avoiding it just makes it so much harder and as she's not even attempting school at mo it's the only time she even steps out of the door these daysSad

To do
General clear up,place is a bona fide hovel.
attack washing mountain

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/03/2021 08:38

*obvs that's after we eventually get shop doneas I'm not doing it pm on a bloody Saturday.shops are like pre covid these days and my nerves aren't up for that level of peopling during a pandemic!

SingToTheSky · 20/03/2021 09:23

Morning folks. We had a lie in as Cagletini slept till 8.15ish, but woke up having wet our bed - she’d pulled her night nappy off AGAIN 🙄 she really hates them now she’s dry in the day. So I showered (also hair and defrost) and sorted her while DH stripped and washed the bedding. Then DS woke up with a nosebleed so his bedding is next. Guess it’s bedding day then (I really need a set day for that).

MC to be fair I’ve no idea if I can write :o I used to love writing stories and then poetry as a child/teen but like with art I basically stopped for about 18 years. Recently finding creativity a bit easier so why not. It’ll give me another thing to do instead of mindless doomscrolling, which can only be a good thing :o it’s just a general fiction/drama kind of thing.

Took my meds late due to all the bed changing kerfuffle, hopefully I’ll feel a bit more awake soon. Then it’s form filling day, promise :o

Dancingtomusic · 20/03/2021 11:57

Sing- great you are writing a novel and being creative rather than doomscrolling.

Zoo- hope you made it to the shops.

I have been feeling odd...exhustion like when pregnant-( I am not pregnant.)
My eyes this morning felt pressured and blurry so after
🎠kids breakie,
🎠fixed a wooden towel rail,
🎠uniform whites lol
🎠Showered
🎠Back in bed for 2 hours
🎠kids bothered me throughout
🎠Kids hungry so made brunch
🎠Dw on
🎠table wiped
🎠Back in bed- eyes feel abit better
🎠kids constantly wanting me.

SingToTheSky · 20/03/2021 11:59

Sorry you’re feeling crap dancing :(

I don’t seem to have moved yet. Read some second hand books that arrived for Cagletini (willoughby wallaby and don’t put your finger in the jelly nelly)

Why am I procrastinating over some really quite simple tasks? 🙄

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/03/2021 12:03

That sounds like a not fun wake up sing

Dancing sorry you feel rough

I'm soooo congested Sad

Ta da
🐣 dryer on
🐣 all up fed and dressed
🐣 ordered carseat and couple other bits
🐣 booked tesco shop
🐣 a bit of washing up
🐣 lunch for dc5

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/03/2021 12:05

Happy birthday Hazel 🥳

SingToTheSky · 20/03/2021 12:24

Oh I forgot to say happy birthday Hazel and I love the scavenger hunt idea! That reminds me I need to sort some clues for Easter as I keep leaving it till the last minute. In more organised years it’s involved proper code breaking etc. Not much excitement in life right now so it needs to be a good one!

(Incidentally you’d be amazed how often I write “food” instead of good lately... Freudian slip much?)

Sorry you’re congested that it’s a horrible sensation at any time but in pregnancy it’s a special kind of hell!

Thinking a lot about job hunting today. Both my mum and DH are in a tizz over whether I’ll get (more) unwell etc. It’s a real risk with stuff like retail and one I hope the job centre will understand. But I need and want something. I remembered I do actually have an NVQ in customer service (as to where the certificate would be though...) as I entered the library job with an apprenticeship. So maybe that means I’ll be better able to find something in an office (call centre maybe?!).

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/03/2021 13:01

Quick question: Have you completed you census forms yet!!!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/03/2021 13:05

Receptionist could work Sing depending on how you feel about phone calls and ringing people. Good luck.

I would also look at whether you can get funding for an accountancy qualification or something similar which might for a year of work give you something else to put under your belt. I know that I recieved a certain amount of funding for my level 2 course as I was very low income and qualified for it. It was a god send. I had to save for the level 3 to complete the certification of position but the level 2 opened doors for fellow students to help them move on to new roles. There are certain amounts of options if needed that can be explored to give you better options through re training.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 20/03/2021 13:13

no we haven't done the census form

Struggling to keep up with the thread but have spotted a birthday

Happy Birthday Hazel and congratulations on the house news.

Lots of odd jobs this morning. DS had his fixed braces put on yesterday and is struggling, the end of the wire is rubbing the inside f his mouth. So I'm off out for more soft food in a minute. Also going to pop to the garden centre.

Done a few odd jobs this morning and have been dipping in and out of an online careers fair with DS, who hasn't got a clue what he wants t do after his A levels.

StillUpholding · 20/03/2021 13:37

I did my census form this morning. Mostly quick and easy but it required a few texts to DH about what his job title is and what exactly he does there Blush I’m still none the wiser

We’ve had a couple of hours at the beach/park and then I’ve managed a few ta Das:
📝 census
📝 living room tidied, dusted, hoovered and mopped
📝 cleaned living room window
📝 tidied, hoovered, mopped hall
📝 DW on, benches wiped, kitchen floor hoovered

Lost motivation now but I feel slightly more in control of the place.

Sorry you’re feeling so rubbish Dancing and That.

KCC question - what do you tend to do at Easter? Any exciting plans? I’m shamelessly fishing for ideas to give us a nice weekend . So far I’m thinking a little tea party on good Friday (would do fish and chips but the queue at ours is always ridiculous), and probably roast lamb on the Sunday with an outdoor egg hunt with DSis and DN since we will be allowed to meet outside.

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/03/2021 13:42

I am pretending the census doesn't exist atm, i saw somewhere its half hour per person 😑
