Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

waders whoo hoo for refund!!
Sadly my kitchens so small not a table or space to swing scoutcat, and we access kitchen thru living room so alas it wouldn't work

Redsquirrel5 · 13/03/2021 02:11

Just dropping in before I go to sleep. Sing that sounds great. I did GCSE Child Psychology and found it very interesting.

Thanks for all the kind remarks re volunteering. I might have to wait a bit longer. Twice in a week I have burst into tears so I may not be ready to go back out into the world yet. I think I will enquire about the animal refuge as that would be going back to my first love and job. Also it is only a few hours a week.

I will try and catch up tomorrow. I have been continuing with The Room of Doom doing 1 -2 hours a day. It is slowly getting more organised but not sure how I can reduce it. I have been going through the boxes and reorganising craft stuff. Working my way around the room. I am a bit fed up now so I had a break today.

Went to collect my prescription as texted to me it was in. One thing the other three were missing. This is a repeat prescription how does this happen and of course it was the very thing I can’t do without. I have enough until Monday. The pharmacy blames the GP surgery. This has happened too many times.

Slightly shocked to realise that I've been awol for an entire fortnight. Feel like school is dragging me out of my cocoon kicking and screaming. School proper starts next week where I am.

I had emailed, asking for LB's online work to be differentiated for his sn, ended up with the PT phoning me which I hadn't expected. I found myself agreeing to send them both in for two days last week against my own better judgment.

A few weeks back we found a lovely online school link that they had both been enjoying, but I just can't hold my own in a phone call nowadays, and much prefer an email where I can read and stop and think before replying. And less chance of confusion or misunderstanding.

Anyway, cue a massive downslide in my mental wellbeing, LOs off to respite after the two school days. Then I had a long phone conversation with our wonderful support worker. I now have a short-term strategy that'll take me to the Easter holidays at the end of this month, and a longer-term approach aimed at the following six months.

Making the most of the earlier light in the morning by tidying bits snd pieces of the garden. Trying to get front garden as low maintenance as possible, with windowboxes later on.

Will catch up reading here in spare minutes, or during rain, with chocolate.

Dancingtomusic · 13/03/2021 08:01

Mrs tidy- i hate phone calls from school. Thats why while my kids were at home i refused to pick it up. I find emails so much better to deal with.

Zoo- film sounds really good!
😂 as much fun as a poke in the eye!

Red- i am so sorry to hear you have been bursting into tears. Its understandable after everything that has happened at work. The brain needs time to adjust to all the changes in life, especially as its not what you thought it would be. Counselling- if you can access it, is wonderful help. I also did hypnotherapy- that helped as I was given a cd to listen to at home to do with relaxation and confidence. I cried on and off for 2 years out of loneliness. I did think my broken heart would never heal but it has 10 years later. You have a strong community around around you- that will help.
Sending you a huge bear hug! Remember all the wonderful memories of all the children you have helped and remember you. The ones that have thanked you- even the ones that didnt thank you- but you still helped. Flowers

From the lovely book, 'The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse.'

'What's the best thing you have learnt about storms?' Said the boy

'That they end.' Said the horse

I did find alittle bit of comfort in this quote....

StillUpholding · 13/03/2021 08:16

Glad to have you back Tidy, sorry things have got tough Flowers

Had a completely mad shift yesterday. Instead of leaving early after my early start I ended up staying late with some bits left over for Monday. I managed a couple of slices of pizza when I got home and was asleep by 9pm.

So there are no ta Das to announce, and none this morning either. Might just chill in the naughty corner for a while Grin

Dancingtomusic · 13/03/2021 08:38

Up- how are you still standing up after working so much! Completely understandable you have no tadas- you have been at work! Sending you a glass of fizz, put your feet up.

SingToTheSky · 13/03/2021 09:01

Aw tidy sorry things got tough, glad you have a lovely support worker 💐

Red sorry you’ve been tearful 💐 I did A level psychology at college and loved it, one of the six units was child development I think. Can still remember a fair bit as I’ve also been helping DSD with similar essay subjects over the years! Anyway there’s a recommended reading book I might get to give me something to really feel I’m preparing myself for October.

Today will be one of productive procrastination I think. We have got lots of admin stuff to do, and while those are the sort of things I often avoid, they all seem much less daunting than the stupid evil DWP forms, which I am being a total ostrich about.

Introducing Cagletini to vintage Top Cat cartoons this morning. Awful night’s sleep - first the big two barged into my room when I had just dozed off, so I was in that stage of sleep where being woken immediately fills you with rage Blush so I just lay there in a grump. Then at half one I woke up to find DD1 sitting with Cagletini who’d been crying from a nightmare. I hadn’t even woken up I was that tired. 😳 Then DD1 was in a lot of pain from her hip/leg - someone had deliberately knocked her over in PE yesterday Hmm.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/03/2021 09:05

Ditto zoo we have a huge amount of old cartoons! Looney tunes, wacky races, yogi bear etc.

I am feeling very lazy today. Productive procrastination can start later.

Dancingtomusic · 13/03/2021 10:15

SingToTheSky · 13/03/2021 10:27

So far I have put a wash on, hoovered the living room and read some of my library book.

foxessocks · 13/03/2021 11:13

I haven't kept up with the thread very well this week so sorry if I've missed anything! Thought I'd take the opportunity to read through the last page at least while the dc are playing nicely upstairs.
Still sounds like a tough day at work, definitely have a slower paced day today!
Tidy sorry things have been so tough Flowers
Sing I know exactly what you mean about the rage if you get woken up at a certain point!
Zoo good lists already today! Lovely that you watched a film with your dd last night ☺️

I've got a cold so am not feeling particularly energetic this morning, also the stormy weather has been waking me up a lot this week. I've been putting off a lot of the kitchen zone stuff because I keep thinking what's the point when the kitchen will be ripped out next month 😂 and actually, we are getting a new fridge and a new oven so I can't see the point of cleaning the old ones now, especially since they are so old that even when I do clean them they never look clean! So basically I've been making excuses all week.

I think if I do manage to get anything done today I will focus on decluttering in the kitchen so it's easier to empty the cupboards when the time comes.

Exercise is out the window this weekend, I really just feel like sitting down Grin

foxessocks · 13/03/2021 11:15

My pitiful ta das
Recycling out

Hiya it’s been so windy and cold here today, we went to the park to feed the ducks but had to come back because DD didn’t like the wind 💨. I didn’t fancy cooking tonight so I ordered a McDonald’s, just under an hour until DD’s bed time and I’m counting down the minutes😂. I’ve bought a belly mask for my bump as it’s getting itchy lately so I’ll see if it helps at all, I think I might have a bit of a pamper tonight.

waders sorry about the stressful week! Hopefully things will return back to normal for you soon. And yes I hope that he shapes up as well but I won’t bet on it!. I love your baby name theme! I have Irish family (my great grandparents on both maternal sides were Irish and a lot of my family still live in Ireland). Oh and great news about the refund!

Thank you for the name love guys❤️

sing that sounds great about the child psychology course, I work with kids and touched upon it a little when I studied early years education but it was brilliant!. I hope your DD is okay💖

So annoying about the prescription red I hope you manage to sort it soon!

zoo that film sounds good, I might give it a watch when I get some free time

tidy I hate phone calls too, I get so awkward. I had to make a call a while ago and asked to speak to Jane, the receptionist said Jane Smith or Jane Jones? And I just replied with yes😂. Sorry to hear things are tough but I’m glad to see you have a plan in action💐

I love that quotes dancing❤️

I hope you feel better soon foxes and waders!

I’m doing terrible with housework, I’m so unmotivated lately. Maybe because of the weather or not getting much sleep but I’m just sat on the sofa most of the day!. DC’s dad has not called today as he is at a party🤨. I swear he wasn’t like this when I decided to have his children! I’ve been on the phone to his mum today (who’s lovely) and she’s not happy with him at all, his dads going to have a chat with him and try and talk some sense into him, but his mum has offered to come and stay with us for a few weeks after little man is born to help out which is lovely of her.

DD is now in bed, I’m about to have a bath and then I’m going to bed

SingToTheSky · 13/03/2021 22:33

I keep sneezing 🤬 productive procrastination did not happen at all, wiped and so anxious all day.

Just watched the voice semifinal while also making a massive list of books to try and borrow from the library for Cagletini. As there are absolutely heaps I want to try and I’m getting bored reading the same stuff. I can’t wait till the charity shops open again :o need to set up a rotation system as well.

And I just remembered we need to edit the Malibu, I mean Tesco shop for tomorrow. Oops.

StillUpholding · 14/03/2021 07:42

Happy Mother’s Day everyone FlowersBrewCake. Hope we all manage to get some well deserved peace at some point today.

DD woke me up at 6:30 desperately excited to give me the cards and pictures she’d made and for me to open and share the box of chocolates she’d chosen Grin. She has now gone downstairs with DH and I’m staying put for a while.

I managed to catch up on the zone 2 missions and do a bit of home bleurgh yesterday. I still have uniforms etc to irons today but I’m definitely planning on having my feet up for a good chunk of the day.

YesTaDas:
🧼 2 x LOLs
🧼 cleaned toaster, kettle, actifry and microwave
🧼 cleaned hob and cooker front
🧼 wiped benches, cupboard fronts and kettles
🧼 cleaned living room window
🧼 dusted living room
🧼 did floors downstairs
🧼 stripped and remade both beds
🧼 put pile of clean washing away
🧼 gave in to DD’s request to rifle through a drawer of her old baby clothes to choose some bits for her dolls. Battled to close the drawer again despite there now being less in it 🤷‍♀️

Hope you are feeling better today Foxes and Waders.

Morning all, happy Mother’s Day! 💐

I was very pleased to have had a bit of a lie in this morning as Cagletini has been waking up earlier lately. Then I looked at my phone again and it said 6.41 not 8.41 as I’d thought. 🙄 I’m still in bed though with a supply of loo roll, after plodding downstairs for water and dry cereal. Annoyingly I forgot to get cold supplies on the tesco order and I really should’ve done a steam inhalation at the first sneezes last night.

Netflix time. 🤧😷🤒😴
