Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Hiya sorry I’m super late on today I was busy sorting some things out for work and then I had a cards night with my bubble. We’re considering booking a holiday in the summer to a pontins or haven or something similar but I’m not sure if it’ll be suitable when little man comes along. So I think I might wait closer to the time to see what sort of temperament he has!. My big news of the day is I finally got DC’s dad to agree on a name for our boy, I love it!

dancing I really enjoyed our indoor picnic, it makes things a bit more exciting than just normal lunch😊 your DS sounds so funny!

double the same happened to a family member, their DD went back for her first day and came home in the afternoon saying the class had to isolate🙄

up I can’t stand Huggies wipes! I find they’re so dry as well, ASDA’s little angles are the only ones that work for DD😊 well done on the workout!

mc I would find that quite annoying, but I’d let it go if it is just a one off if she does it again then I’d have a chat with her!

ED glad to hear your DC have took to going back to school so well!

I did intend to post a ta da list but I’m way too tired now. The wind was terrible last night so didn’t get much sleep and now I can’t sleep because I’m so hot! I have the window open and a fan on me but I can’t cool down. I got like this with DD too and then got even worse after labour! Why does nobody tell you about the sweats after giving birth?!

dancing I've no idea about the hair,but I see you are being drawn in.i am on series 5 now,only 9 episodes left til I actually have to WAIT A WEEK between episodes.i remember the excitement of this in my youth,but I am now old and impatient!

I had 3 in nappies for a while.dd2 was not reliably dry in day til mid reception year (wore pull ups for school so could use loo if remembered)and was 7 before reliably dry at night.as D's came 20onths after her and lil zoo 18 months later was very expensive for a while I can however change a happy at speed on my lap from the experience!!

Forgot ed glad DC settled on ok 🏅 for volunteering with tests at school.

Nappies .....

Dc1&2 were both in for about 18 months
Then when dc3 came along they were both still in night nappies
Dc4 and 5 were both in day nappies together for about 6 months then a few months of dc4 in night ones
Dc5 and 6 will then likely spend a year or so both in nappies together

The environment hates me. I try and recycle but i just can't deal with the faff of reusables.

Wipes i prefer aldi / asda or pampers
Nappies we have used a mix but dc5 is strictly pampers only, anything else leaks

Hopefully new baby has a cheaper bum

I used washable nappies a lot with DD1 and a bit with DS, but even though they’ve improved a lot since then we decided not to with Cagletini at all - really didn’t want to add to the already epic wash loads!

She was up at 6.45 telling me all about her dream and waving a book in my face (not even a good one!). Went to bed fairly early last night but still feel like a train wreck 😂 I might have to start having a nap.

DD1 is feeling very weird about going back to school properly! Excited about getting back to most lessons, and seeing some friends, but ambivalent about seeing all the other kids 😂

Cagletini just off to nursery with DH. Bit of a chore getting her dressed today! I think we need to do that as soon as she’s awake as if we leave it later she gets in a strop. DS is awake.

I need to phone OU today. Bit nervous TBH but it’s exciting too! I must write a list of what I need to find out.

Zoo and That, you are nappy ninjas by the sound of it!
Re wipes, I am using reusable Cheeky Wipes and they are so good (to be fair, can be mcgyvered from a cut up towel and a tuppaware box). So much easier to clean up poop with them! After trying those, now I find disposable wipes just spread stuff around.

When I had dd2 had a name for D's ready,DD was a last minute choice.uncle questions DS choice (neo,< dad's a matrix fan>as in neo nazi?) And I change mind...
DS had DD name at the ready,last minute for a DS
Carried forward DD name to lil zoo and we had D's name at ready pretty early there too(had she been a boy would've been Calico)
Dd1 was a nightmare of arguements with her dad.he wanted name her Lorraine after his first gf(erm NO) then Deborah(my evil eldest sister name I NC with)I loved Holly as a Xmas time baby(was late,ended up arriving 5th Jan) but he hated that.in the end got it down to Lauren or hannah.i made final call as days before born both were first and second in top girls name in East if England.so I picked second most popular and ended up whistling her throughout childhood as if called her name half dozen girls turned to look at me...

Big row dd2 as refused get up,was up watching Disney in the night and in foul mood today.i had breakfast out an hour and put away just before finally showed face.we are now Not Speaking

Discussed lessons timetable at school with lil zoo and she's keen to do core subject doibles which are all pm.ive tentatively agreed altho I think we going run aground with not eating/drink til 430 every day,but hates DT,drama and french which are all in the pot if opts 1+2,(Tuesdays and Thursday would have to be 3+4 given dance/pe 1+2)whatever I say it will be wrong,so just have to let it ride out and pick up the pieces if and when it blows up in our faces

Try supervise very unenthusiastic D's thru some awful home learning(school.admit in order to get something out to suit all needs he's doing ks3 work when he should be at GCSE level)he's bored shirtless(left autocorrect mistake in there for amusement purposes,I need some today)

I think the sick feeling was down to not eating a proper meal last night, i've managed to eat myself to a place where i no longer feel sick now

zoo i don't have a shed but the cellar is free for over demanding DC 😀

We do have cheeky wipes but i've only really used them for hands and faces (sensitive skin) i just cannot bring myself to put shit in my washer and yes this means when they toilet train if it doesn't flick out down the loo then the pants go in the bin

That initially I had similar reservations. I put them in 60 wash and napisan the life out of them. I just try not to think of poo particles in my washing machine 😬

Nappy liners - you could lift most of the poo out and dispose. Washable nappys were brilliant for ds got rid of most of his nappy rash. Agreed with napisan. But they were much easier than I thought.

I made the mistake of wandering off into the the rest of MN yesterday. I am still really cross today. People be bonkers, and ignorant and stupid, and selfish and omg learn to shut your mouth if you can't say a nice thing So that is not something i intend to do again.

Teen is cross with me, I am cross with people. It is a fun game played slow.

House work is being ignored. Studying is not being done as much as possible and migraines such. That is all.

Just had a phone call from school about how to support DD1 so that was nice. Need to charge up the phone now so I can ring OU. Wrote the list already :)

Now just sat watching TV while the turkey cooks. It's a turkey crown I bought for pennies on Boxing Day and I'm sick of seeing it in my freezer so glad to actually use it.

Necessity is the mother of encouragement Double no option here, bleeding nappy rash.
Cloth nappies made it vanish almost over night.

And yes I am still glad out of that stage.

It’s chilly here today the suns out but it’s cold. We’ve not done too much today we had a lazy morning and then played with some play doh. I’ve just finished work and doing dinner, I think we might go for a walk before bed, DD gets sleepy in her pushchair so hopefully it’ll send her to sleep earlier tonight because I’m exhausted.

zoo three in nappies that’s amazing! I haven’t thought about having 2 in nappies but I’m dreading it now😂.

Sorry you aren’t feeling the best that❤️ I’d struggle choosing a name if I was having another girl, I’ve used both my favourite names up now so I’m not sure what I’d do if I had any more DC😂

mc it took a while to finalise DD’s name, the kids dad and I have very different tastes in names. This time around I practically told him this is the name I want, if you don’t hate it then that’s going to be DS’s name but he likes it so that’s good!

zoo I don’t know if I could come up with that many names! It’s really interesting seeing how you came up with your DC’s names. My name is very popular and I was always known as my last name at school because everyone would get confused because there were 5 of us with the same name in the class! I don’t have a shed but you’re welcome to have my bedroom! That seems like a lot to deal with💐

I’ve never tried cloth nappies/wipes. My mum tried with me but it was too much work, I’m also not sure how I’d feel about poo in the washing machine😂

We chose DD’s name about a week before she was born, her name is Aoife Mabli, she really suits it and I love the meaning of both the names. So when we chose DS’s name I wanted something that worked well with DD’s name, so he’s going to be called Tadhg Cosmin. It’s lovely when you choose a name because it starts feeling a bit more real❤️.

Right we are back from a walk and DD is in bed so I need to do some housework. DC’s dad FaceTimed today with a woman, which has annoyed me, I don’t like him introducing DD to people he isn’t serious with and I know he only does it so the women he’s seeing think he’s a good dad (a bit like Joey and Chandler in that episode from friends where they leave Ben on the bus😂). I’ve also told him that he can stay over in my home if he wants to come back for DS’s birth, but he’s declined🙄. He keeps messing us around and although I want the kids to have a relationship with their dad but god it would be so much easier if they didn’t!

Cagletini took a bit longer to get to sleep tonight thanks to hearing DS getting very animated on zoom-scouts! He enjoyed soap carving though.

Also remembered we still need to sort stuff for CAMHS. Must do that over the weekend, and the disabled student people have already sent the form for that, and I need to fill in my ILP to get my current course signed off completely. So lots of admin over the weekend. DD1 has also got to get new stuff for PE (including trainers as they broke today) aaaaargh

Trying to look at OU site as I found out some really good news today - I thought I’d have to redo an old social science course as the introductory module (I did the equivalent in 2007/8 and didn’t enjoy it much, although TBF I would probably get more out of it now) but it turns out now there is another option (child psychology) yay!
