Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Dancingtomusic · 14/03/2021 16:16

You guys inpspired me to go for a family walk at 9am ans the kids looveed being outside in the fresh air and being able to run on the muddy bits of grass.
It truely was the best bit of the day.
Inbetween cooking veggie cornish pastie idea thingy and jam tarts with a puff pastry i needed to use up. Ds was finally happen we had had a impromtu 'mummys days party' with lots of chocolate digestive biscuuts, egg custards and a few packets of crisps.
Kitchen is such bomb site that as my washing machine was on top spin, I heard somwthing slide and move in the kitchen. (Dont know what it was...might be a tray sliding to the side.)
Right off to do more....oh crap...its school tomo. Washed and dried school uniform yesterday and that is cluttering up the sofa.
Hopefully watching film at 4.30pm.
Wish the faries would come and make the packed lunches for tomo.
It been a lovely day.

Doublechins · 14/03/2021 16:48

Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Despite it being Mother's Day I still have ta-da's
🍫S&S and emptied and cleaned out bathroom bin
🍫 2 x LOL
🍫 ironing
🍫quick tidy and sweep floors

Then did a doorstep visit to MIL and went to take flowers to DH DGM grave.

🍫 walked to the shop for a few bits. DH had ran into Asda when we were out but apparently when I said get stuff for packed lunches he had considered stuff for in the sandwiches but not the bread to put it in 🙄

I've had a throbbing headache all day so I attempted a bath and some peace and quiet but that lasted seconds before youngest was screaming for me so I told DH just to let him in the bathroom with me.

🍫 made a raspberry and lemon curd brioche bread and butter pudding 🤤
🍫 made packed lunches

Just sat down to watch a marvel film with them all now and my DGM is coming along soon and we're going to get a Chinese.

Dancingtomusic · 14/03/2021 20:42

Zoo- you are a wonderful mum. Sending a massive hug. Put your favourite tv program. Cuppa tea and choco biscuits.

You dinner idea sounds amazing! Hope you get a chance to relax.

We watched half of 'coming to America 2'. Wud hv enjoyed it more if ds could stop doing impressions of a trantruming octopus 🦑 and a tantruming fish 🐟 out of water. He wanted to watch paw patrol.😑

ExponentiallyDepleted · 14/03/2021 21:21

Evening all,

So much thread to catch up on!

Waders - sorry you felt so rough after the jab. DH had his yesterday and started feeling rough 24 hours later. I had mine this evening (Zoo - mine was on that basis, registered carer for DS). So will wait and see how I feel tomorrow.

Mother's Day low key here, DCs have been tired out from back to school. Had a card and was offered breakfast in bed but I decided I'd rather get up as I don't like crumbs in my bed and it was croissants. However a bit sad because my DF was taken into hospital yesterday leaving my poor worried mum home alone on Mother's Day, none of us are bubbled with them, normally I'd have gone down there. He is having tests, staying in for now.

Then I went to the tip, to pick up Sainsburys Click and collect, went for an hour at the allotment, a short run, took DS to football and off for my jab. Pizza for dinner, lateral flow tests done ahead of work tomorrow, feet up watching Harry Potter now.

Red - we have pressed the purchase button on an Everhot 90i. So looking forward to it. Just got to choose the rest of the kitchen now, we have had several virtual design sessions on zoom but they make me feel seasick and its hard to see things properly without going to a showroom.

HazelNuttyElf · 14/03/2021 23:12

Happy Mothers Day! I know it'll be a little late at this point for you all. zoo definitely time to force your teens to appreciate you more, as they really seem to be taking advantage of you. I just wish I could think of how you could do that and still have your sanity in tact.

I am having a great mother's day here, my DH and DC still celebrate, they made me breakfast this morning and won't let me do anything, and even ILs bought me a plant.

We have found a house and putting an offer in. There's already 2 offers on it, but they aren't looking at them until Tuesday evening. We are getting ours put together to submit tomorrow 🤞 DC are already planning on it being ours, but I'm telling them we might not get it, but our house will come along when it's supposed to.

I'm not going to go through my ta das since the last time I posted, laundry, baking and working have been done 😂
🍒👋 to everyone

SingToTheSky · 14/03/2021 23:43

Evenin’ all. Hazel I really hope you get the house!

I’ve just done another steam inhalation and had a hot squash with honey. Will try and sleep propped up on the sofa with some king of the hill for company.

Cagletini did nap today for only the second time since we got the routine started but it was a fairly early nap and I still managed to do the routine, just later than normal, so that’s an improvement.

HazelNuttyElf · 15/03/2021 00:01

Thank you Sing I hope you feel better soon, I'm trying to fight off getting the cold that's made its round in the house.
ED I hope your DF gets some answers and get home to your DM again soon

aloeha · 15/03/2021 01:29

Hiya, happy Mother’s Day ladies! I hope that you all had a lovely day. I spent the morning with DM and DNan, then DD stayed with them and I wallpapered her bedroom. I’ve been waiting for wallpaper for ages, I’ve attached a picture of it, it’s so gorgeous and I like the blue and pink as DS will be sharing a room with her and don’t think it’s too girly!. It’s only one wall, then I put wall stickers up on the other walls and DM helped me to move the furniture back. The flat is practically complete now, just need a cot for little man. We then had a Sunday roast and now DD is in my room watching tv because she had a nightmare.

I didn’t get so much as a text saying happy Mother’s Day for DC’s dad🙄. He called earlier to complain about me asking for some money towards some things for DS. He doesn’t pay maintenance and barely helps me out at all because he wants to save to buy himself a house🙄. Really tired of his rubbish lately.

sing I hope you’re feeling better❤️

I hope your headache had gone double💐

zoo I hope you managed to put your feet up at some point today🛀🏻❤️

ED I hope your dad gets home soon💐❤️

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you about the house hazel🤞🏻

Alo- wow you have done loads! Thats so lovely you got to spend time with Dm and Dnan. Its important to be with family.

Hi double
Sorry to hear about your DF going into hospital. I hope he is ok...sending you a hug.

Waders- hope you are feeling abit better. I felt like you do after having my pizfer vaccine. I felt pain in all my joints and bones. I wondered if it was because I already had a cold ongoing. I felt alot better a week after my jab. Do take tablets for high blood pressure?

Hazel- thats great you have found a house!

StillUpholding · 15/03/2021 06:01

Just a quick one this morning with links before I leave for work. We are in zone 3 this week, and here’s the sneak peek for the week

Sorry to hear your DF is poorly ED, your poor DM. Hope he gets home soon Flowers. Hope you’re feeling ok after the jab.

Yay you found a house Hazel! Fingers crossed for you!

Sorry Mother’s Day has not been a good one Zoo. I really really hope you went on strike and did nothing else for the Zoolets today. You are such a lovely DM and you do so much for them. One day they will see it.

Forgive me the lack of other personals. I’ve barely slept. Ta Das included ironing, upstairs dusting and a general tidy up everywhere. Have a good day everyone.

Hope your Dad gets home soon ED

Aloeha well done on the wallpapering I wouldn't have a clue where to start I'm rubbish with anything like that.

I have 3 of the DC up and big 2 are dressed but DS3 is refusing to get up. I've put some bacon on in the hope the smell lures him out of his pit. You would think he was 16 not 6 🤣

I've had a quick tidy round, S&S and swept the floors and will clear up after breakfast then walk the dog, do the school run, stick a wash in then a lazy day on the sofa because I'm on nightshift tonight.

Dancingtomusic · 15/03/2021 09:38

Sorry my post should have been...

Ed oooh how exciting. What colour did you go for in the end? Sorry to hear about DF and poor mum on her own and worried.

Zoo sorry Day was crap. Teens can be so selfish and yours have other needs but do love you deep down. If you weren’t there they would realise how much you do for them.

Waders sorry to hear of reaction to jab. I spoke to GP last week and am going for NHS one as surgery means I’ll wait longer. So am booked for 24 th and 30 miles away. Then second 35 miles away in different town. Both in evening, bummer!

Hazel great news. Fingers crossed.

Sorry will be back just remembered funeral on today going to stand opposite church. I am not dressed yet. Yesterday’s skirt will do and clean top. Elderly man who I was rather fond of and made a cracking gin! I will have one in his honour tonight.
