Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Ah! Mc I was wondering if it was that way round, but was being careful/diplomatic in my wording just in case it was you thinking of doing it (which didn’t seem likely but you never know). :o

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 16:18

Did they make something specifically for you? Like personalised in some way? Because that’s even weirder. I hope you didn’t feel pressured into spending too much.

Really what she could have done is made them as gifts, as potentially you would have posted a photo and been all “aww look what X made me, how cool...” and then others would comment and be interested etc... that’s the way it has worked with people I know anyway.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/03/2021 16:38

I dont know what a widget is but i wouldnt like to be in that situation, its weird

halfhope · 11/03/2021 17:18

I'd be furious MC. Not on.

halfhope · 11/03/2021 17:21

But then I have a tendency to be very blunt as a follow up and that's not always helpful! 😳

halfhope · 11/03/2021 17:23

Present her with one of your fish and say you'd bred it specifically for her and now she'll need to buy it from you and also buy a tank etc 🐠

halfhope · 11/03/2021 17:45

Mind you I'd a friend who's bring over a homemade cake as a gift if we invited her for dinner and then she'd take the left over cake home with her if we hadn't finished it all 'oh John will probably eat this for his tea break' etc. I always thought it was so rude.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/03/2021 18:53

I agree hope that is rude, it would make me want to eat it all just so she couldn't take it Blush

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 18:57

I agree that is rude too!

Dragged self off phone/sofa. Went out for a quick walk. Got rained on. Had a hot bath, DH can take Cagletini for hers. Am chuffed she’s stayed awake considering the earlier start.

Had another email from my tutor and she’s signed off unit 5 too, no edits needed, so I am officially done! Yay! Just need to read the individual question feedback and then do my official tick box stuff.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2021 18:58

Hopeyou need to lick the remained to stop that happening, that's shocking bad manners taking leftovers back!
MC it's a no from me.if I asked, fair play.dont use position to foist stuff on me.best way to wreck a friendship

Lil zoo didn't go school in the end.too wobbly
Did eat some lunch(Mexican corned beef salad wrap) and lay in bed all pm doing some online work and resting

I've watch macgyver with dd2,worked out what we going to eat til I pop shops again Saturday ,fielded call from D's school checking how he's doing and did some stretching as my back and limbs are stiff and sore today.closest I'm going to get on the self care front as shattered!

Tonight's dinner-
Cheese and tomato sandwiches for D's/lil zoo(she don't eat hot stuff anymore and I will give her anything will actually eat)
Dd2 asked more roasted veg, specifically sweet potatoes and mushrooms she knows I have and asparagus that's lurking.i feel a little grated cheese and the addition of some part baked baguettes will be minimal effort and quite satisfactory!(I'd give D's some but not up his street,he'd rather have the sandwich!)

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/03/2021 19:19

I was going to suggest licking the leftover cake but was trying to hide my ferral streak 🤣

halfhope · 11/03/2021 19:32

🤣 the first time it happened I was too shocked. It only happened one more time and we don't see that much of them now 🍰 I will employ the finishing/licking technique in future.

halfhope · 11/03/2021 19:34

That is if we ever have strangers over to the house again. Maybe I should tell her that Chris Whitty sternly warns against taking leftovers home - and then proceed to lick the cake 👅

Doublechins · 11/03/2021 19:37

MC I'm so curious as to what an edible widget is

Waders I just used to use the Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix and ready made chocolate icing because both are dairy free and you make the cake mix with pop to make it egg free 🤤 really want cake now

This afternoons ta-da's
🍰 collected DC
🍫 made dinner
🍰 cleaned tea/coffee/sugar/biscuit jars
🍫 cleaned the fronts of the kitchen units
🍰 cleaned cooker hood
🍫 cleaned hob
🍰 dishes
🍫 kitchen windows
🍰 cleaned dogs bowls
🍫 ran washer with some cleaning stuff
🍰 emptied bin
🍫 ironing
🍰cleaned table

DH is doing bath and bed for DC now while I watch TV

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 19:39

😂😂😂 I’m not sure that’s what they meant when they said have your cake and eat it too

Had a vague attempt at making a ramen style noodle soup with DD1. Must look up proper recipes and experiment. Unfortunately DH suddenly remembered he had a zoom meeting so he rushed Cagletini through her bath and she’s now angry confused and naked 😂 hopefully it isn’t a long meeting.

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 20:26

She also managed to get into the bedroom by standing on a box to unlatch it. Awkward 😳 luckily she’s asleep now. And I just realised the last library book is on the printer. Behind DH’s tablet where he is zooming. Dammit. 🤬

StillUpholding · 11/03/2021 21:31

Thanks for the recipe Foxes, I’ll definitely try that one. Very scary about the dog! Glad DS was ok and hope the poor lady is too. DD once randomly prodded some poor dog that was chilling next to a table in a cafe. She was a couple of paces ahead of me and I hadn’t spotted it. Luckily it was placid and just moved away but I was mortified as I’m usually really careful.

Well done on the good coursework feedback Sing, and exciting about the volunteering. You’ll be brilliant.

I agree that what your friend has done isn’t quite right Mc. It’s one thing to send a group message or something saying “I’m selling these if anyone would like to order” but a bit presumptuous to say it’s been made for you so you’re under pressure to buy. If it’s edible that’s perfect for saying no in future though, it was so delicious you’d want a few and you’re watching your figure Wink. It was aldi nappies all the way for DD although I liked the newborn pampers. Huggies wipes were my nemesis though. Anyone ever managed to get just one wipe out of the pack without ripping it?!

Shock at taking back the cake Hope. I’d have to make sure there were no leftovers the next time Grin

Grin at your dream Waders. At least you were trying to save him and not pushing him down.

I managed a workout this morning. I ended up working late tonight but have sorted the kitchen, and I’ve got some Mother’s Day bits ready at the door to drop off on my way home tomorrow. Have to start work stupidly early tomorrow so off to bed I go. Hope you’re all looking forward to decluttering your handbags and cars and sorting your pantries ladies. At least it’s Friday 🎉 🎈🍷

Thank you for your thoughts, everyone. It really helps with the perspective.
Hope I like your fish idea 🤣 That Zoo loving the ferral streak!
Double Sing I am just trying to be incognito by calling this subject 'widget'. It's a common foodstuff of the sort specific to a country I used to live in.

I might need to rethink my friendships 😬

Right, ta das:
💥Washed the fridge. Wasn't too bad. Did not touch the freezer as it's full of stuff and I don't have the mental strength to venture there today.
💥LOLx1
💥Went for a 2 hour walk

Tomorrow I shall brave the oven. Hopefully it won't be too bad as I gave it a good clean not so long ago.

Mc3209 · 11/03/2021 21:39

Cross post Up. Thank you, that's a good line, note taken. Hope your shift goes smoothly tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 22:12

I’d probably chalk it up to a momentary lapse in judgment tbh mc - if they’re usually a good sort. Everyone has gone a bit crazy this last year.

Must sleep. Hoping for a better tomorrow! Planning to phone the OU to discuss enrolment and all that jazz.

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 22:13

OMG up yes what is it with huggies wipes?! Just no.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 11/03/2021 22:27

Evening all,

I fell off the thread it's been a busy week. DCs both settled back into school, DD is fine with it and DS is over the moon to be back, he had been struggling at home. I did a stint volunteering on the lateral flow testing at his school today, it was so well organised and the students very well behaved.

I had two in nappies for a year or so, mine are close in age and DS was quite late toilet training. We started in Pampers with DS, then switched to cloth, when DD came along I went back to disposables for her for ease and because I didn't have enough cloth nappies for both of them. I used bamboo washable wipes which carried on in use for many years after as flannels.

Mc another vote for your friend being a bit unreasonable.

Not much flying done so far this week. Just keeping on top of the daily stuff really. I have started to realise all our drawers are overflowing with crap again and my filing pile is so big it may result in a landslide any day now . I could do with a week off work.

halfhope · 11/03/2021 22:53

A word that I'm fond of is 'boundaries' MC. Don't ditch the friend but set boundaries if buying in that instance doesn't sit right with you. You were blindsided this time but you'll have evasive manoeuvres prepared for the next time. It's so hard though isn't it?

Dancingtomusic · 12/03/2021 00:05

Zoo- i watched mygyver twice now...and i rather liked it.....but what is going on with the very very young main character mygyvers hair....why is it so distracting...its so brassy blond (anyone blond...i have nothing against blonds...but you know I like hair colouring but that does not suit.) Super show, great chatacters and storylines.

I digress....

mc- your friend.....i would pull a mygyver style special manoveur on her....to gracefully and effortlessly avoid the 'would you like anymore...' cue you running away towards the American kitchen style island, jumping up and bum sliding across to get away with a cheeky smile.😄
I agree, if she is a good friend, say I will promote this as a lovely product to our other friends. Advise her to set up a facebook page. Tell her as a best friend, maybe dont personlise and force someone to buy.
I would be annoyed at being forced to buy something i didnt really want to buy.

Double- Yay i love betty crocker box chocolate cake mix
I didnt realise it was dairy free?

How do you make it egg free please...(jumping up and down) did you put pop in it? What kind? (Twirls hands in excitement.)

Half- what? She took the left over cake home?
I second the licking the cake.....

ED- hello 👋 i really wanted to buy the washable nappies as they looked soo cute! I used to read soo many mn threads on how to soak them, how to wash, how to dry them in the sun....never the dryer...nooo.

I really wanted to buy the bamboo washable fannel wipes too. I was going to use them after babies to clean the house cloths.
What is up with the huggies packet....i learnt early on that my changing bag will have a dry packet of baby wipes- just when its really needed.
Tesco loves baby wipes- perfect.

Aldi baby wipes- sticky, foaming wetwipes.

Lild baby wipes- not to bad but stunk of fragrance. (Sniffing babies going what the shit is that smell.....fucking perfume....)
Then buying the fragrance free ones, they were really good.

Pampers baby wipes- smelt of perfum i think.

(I may have got some of the above muddled as its been awile.)

But it was definately grounds for divorce if Dh dared to come back from the shops- with the wrong fing wet wipes. (I couldnt go in my nightie...trying to bf...disheveled look.)(🙈 remembering the look of the postman- so agast at what he was seeing- he couldnt speak.)

Alohea- hope you are ok?

Up- weldone for doing a workout! I really need to do that.
You made me chuckle...i read clear out your handbags and clear out your panties....(whoa flylady is through 😃)
Nope pantries

🍒👋everyone, hazel, sc, chic, merry, mrs tidy and everyone else.

Mc3209 · 12/03/2021 01:45

I knew I could count on you folk to keep me right. Thank you 😊

Dancing I know that dishevelled look all too well! I always have to mentally check my boobs are not hanging out when answering the door 😂
