Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

I was wondering double as I haven’t cleaned either lately 😂 fridge is still a mess (freezer is good from a recent open-door emergency) although DH did stick the veg drawer in the DW yesterday

Mc3209 · 11/03/2021 08:46

Double it's interesting how different nappies fit different babies. I'm using Lidl's Lupilu for McTiny and really like them. He doesn't seem to mind wearing them for most of the night. Tried Pampers before, have nothing against them, but I find they fit differently around the legs. Mind you, we are still on number 3 size.
I like your tactics re fridge/oven cleaning 😂

Right, I must face the day.

Dancingtomusic · 11/03/2021 09:05

Double- i really like your idea of making ham sandwiches for breakfast! I think my two might like that.

half - Forgot to say hi 👋

Doublechins · 11/03/2021 09:38

MC I used Lidl nappies with the other 3 and they were fine but for some reason all except pampers leak with youngest.

Dancing another plus of the ham sandwiches were they ate them off the foil so hardly any dishes this morning.

Ta-da's so far
🥓 all up, dressed and fed
☕️ S&S
🥓 quick tidy round & swept floors
☕️ few dishes & cleaned table
🥓 LOL
☕️ took the dog for a walk
🥓 school run and dropped little one off with my DGM
☕️ nipped to aldi for dog food

Since I went to aldi I figured it would be rude not to nip into greggs for a bacon roll and a latte so I'm not enjoying my nice peaceful breakfast and watching Corrie before my lesson starts.

Heard mumbling at the school gates of kids getting sent home and sure enough the teacher comes out and says all year 3 kids must go home and isolate as a child has covid. None of mine affected but what a nightmare for all involved just getting back to normal and all ready it's gone tits up.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2021 09:41

I had a friend at school who ate tuna sandwiches for breakfast
Double excellent cunning plan for appliance cleaning!
MC i always found pampers were a bit gaping around the legs on mine until stage 4...(disclaimer,that was many many moons ago)

Tada
Crumpets scoffed
Everyone else sorted/up
S+s
Locate dining table- debris to bin/recycling/wash up pile, belongings to rooms
Sweep floor, separating belongings from detritus and also placed in rooms
2nd wash on(first emergency pant n sock wash hung up to dry)
Check dd2 is homeschooling
Remind D's repeatedly of morning routine-antsy with inadequate teaching currently being provided,by teacher he loathes(who is currently shielding so only staff member available online as rest are busy with classes/testing etc)he's not a happy bunny and behaviour is quite "challenging"
Deploy birthday cat toys on my lazy rotund overlords.i can report laser light was highly popular, and followed up with mousy with feather tail on string with rod they've achieved 15 minutes of mad trilling and zooming and are both now laying flat out like run marathons🤣

To do
Sort games in blanket box, decide need to rotate any so most popular are to hand
Clear and tidy under dining table now chunk D's stuff there to accommodate dd2 mattress under his midi sleeper
Dd1 is ment be having them Friday night, meaning DD won't share D's as he will share lil zoo at dd1s.i can see me losing my room😞I don't sleep there as D's often comes to me at night and we sleep downstairs,so it will just be no where in daytime space I can hide as she lays in bed all the time...she moaned last night I zonked just after 10 it's alright lays in bed doing nothing then not tired and building anxiety in night, but doesn't account I've been running around like idiot all day on little sleep and exhausted.damn wind kept waking me up as was howling and blowing bins around.today all joints are painful/stiff and I've too much to do,and lil zoo us in 5+6 so no chance a nap.
Roll on weekend (except need do top up shop sat)
No plans Sunday yet, deffo won't be getting pressies unless bought myself and I CBA in a pandemic to faff with it all.i used to take zoolets to morrisons on the Friday Eve and we wander round I point out books,chocs,socks/gloves etc I liked then gave them money and scampered off together choosing from my suggestions before buying and secretly get home and wrapped!thought braving very busy supermarket ain't happening,D's has no social distancing and he and dd2 panic in busy large shops so it's way too much effort.oh well

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2021 09:45

X posts double
Threads on here Tuesday bubbles breaking already...
It's not clever lob all back together, esp in secondary, but sadly I just a lowly parent not gov "expert" do what do I know?!
Someone at girls school decided was great time change the IT so now lots frazzled teachers back from using computers at home to new complicated system on top mass testing in huge school.a deserve medals tbh.it would break me with that level of stress!our go to teachers usually laid back she's virtually horizontal but she's not able respond emails/keep on top of things as needed in multiple places at once.shes hoping once the tests switch to home things will ease up a bit

Dancingtomusic · 11/03/2021 10:33

I will fly the flag for Alidi nappies for both my babies.
I found the Aldi nappy stayed drier overnight, even when full of wee. The Aldi nappy held its shape better. The pampers nappy was sodden wet and wet to the touch. Pampers just looked abit mangled.

When we used to run out of Alidi nappies....you would find me doing this...😭

Dancingtomusic · 11/03/2021 10:36

zoo - happy birthday to the overlords 👑🐱🐯🎂

foxessocks · 11/03/2021 10:52

I couldn't cope with sandwiches for breakfast! I have to have cereal, I don't even like toast in the morning! My dd would love sandwiches for breakfast though, I might have to suggest is, she isn't keen on most cereals, she has porridge but usually complains about it!

I'm feeling a bit freaked out. This morning on the school run, a big dog jumped up at my ds and sort of snapped at his face as my ds went past. The woman mumbled a sorry and I couldn't stop because I had to catch up with the dc who had gone straight past without really batting an eyelid (they are very used to dogs and they were chatting and hardly noticed). I didn't really think much more of it but on the way back I saw the same woman and dog and I made sure ds was well out of the way. Anyway, got home and I have just found out a lady was bitten by what seems to be the same dog this morning. So now I'm just thinking oh my god what if that had been ds face? And also poor lady (she is fine, not a bad bite but STILL). She has reported it to the police. I've given her the information I've got.

It has made me think I definitely need to talk to the dc about not all dogs being friendly, because my parents have two dogs the dc are used to them and love dogs. I also need to remind them that dogs don't always like scooters so best to come off them when a dog is close that kind of thing. Ds had his scooter with him but he wasn't on it, they were pushing it along but only slowly.

Alas,we have a tiny square hall, and no downstairs loo.even cupboard understairs is rammed.there is no other space😞

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2021 11:16

foxes that would've scared me sless.zoolets aren't very dog friendly, but we're always taught ask before touching any dog,and never come up closely behind one as we knew someone who kid did that near a husky and got bitten as they don't like being "snuck up on"...
DS had a boxer jumping at his face barking.i LMS when owner just walked off when it wouldn't come to his call.i ran after him and said get control of your fING dog or face huge vets bill, which I won't be paying.lits swearing at me.deployed my mum stare and he scurried over and grab dog by collar.poor D's has hated dogs ever since...

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 12:17

Yikes foxes that’s awful I’m sorry. Glad you have given the info too. 💐

I am feeling totally out of whack thanks to some dreaded forms arriving in the post. Ignoring them for now and hiding under duvet.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2021 12:23

Lil zoo is having dizzy spells and has headache.suspevt we maybe suffering from school without eating/drinking properly.
Has had a soy milkshake and cereal bar in bid perk self up.this added to constant gut pain
Need decide if she's got to go given 25 minute walk there and back again, plus stairs to negotiate once onsite...
On plus,I need a comforting lunch.rummsge in fridge found mountain spuds,so potato wedges sprinkled smokey BBQ seasoning(smells LUSH) roasted broccoli and squash and some stray corned beef needs eat up😋

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/03/2021 13:26

Another vote for vitalite. Makes fluffy cakes and biscuits and can be used in pastry.

Pampers and huggies nappies - yeah did you know that if they get too full they can explode nappy innards everywhere. Pampers way worse than huggies iirc. Aldi didn't exploded nappy not fun to clean up. Do NOT miss those days.

Teen this morning. Btw i forgot my masks at my dads you got any spare reusable ones. Because if he had asked last night I could have washed and dried one for him... but at least he got himself up and out the door I over slept!

Dancingtomusic · 11/03/2021 14:12

Hills- so glad we are over the nappy phase. Both kids in nappies at same time- all i ever did was change nappies 🙄

Foxes- thats really scary - hope your Ds is ok. I hate people that let their dog jump over lil kids.
Dogs seem to think my dd is a toy. Glad you reported the person.

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 14:15

We had an overlap with two in nappies. Not fun! I’m very glad Cagletini is dry in the day now. Thankfully we’ve had no issues with cheap tesco nappies.

I have been utterly unmotivated today. Think I have PMT which isn’t helping the anxiety. Letting myself write off the day.

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 14:18

I did have two emails that cheered me up a bit though - really nice feedback on my previous assessment from the internal assessor, and the zoom invite/schedule for volunteer training which starts next week! So that’s exciting. I’ve set a recurring alarm for Wednesdays lest I forget!

DH also got me an egg sandwich (I am easily influenced so thanks waders :o and a smoothie on the way home so lunch was sorted :o

Dancingtomusic · 11/03/2021 14:48

Sing- weldone for getting good feedback. That must hv been lovely to read!

Mc3209 · 11/03/2021 15:44

Sing Congrats on good feedback!
foxes that's scary. Glad your little one is OK.

Just came back from a longer walk than usual. For the last 30 mins of which baby was a screaming ball of fury. The moment we stepped indoors, he stopped and was all cuteness and smiles. Go figure.

Question, would you sell to your good friends? Let's say you enjoy making edible widgets in your spare time, and occasionally give them to friends. Would you make a call to your close friend saying 'I've made this widget for you, would you like to buy it for £x'?

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 15:49

Hmm interesting one (and totally intrigued as to the edible widgets!)

A few of my friends have businesses selling things on fb, and friends seem to buy them (as well as others once the pages are shared wider etc). But it’s letting the friends come to them IYSWIM. Definitely not messaging individuals directly, that is over the line (IMHO) - one friend did do that actually and it was a bit... cringey? Puts the individual under pressure to say yes. Whereas just making a page etc, all good. Guess it depends on the relationship though.

Mc3209 · 11/03/2021 15:53

Posted too soon, one of my best friends just pulled this on me and I am not sure what to think.

Mc3209 · 11/03/2021 16:00

I didn't ask for it, it was them approaching me. I ended up buying it as felt it was too awkward to back out, but now I am a bit not sure what just happened.

They are trying to take it further from just something they enjoy doing in spare time to a little side project. I was just taken by surprise to be approached in this way. They are one of my two best friends.

I'm of a completely opposite view, ie I personally wouldn't do it to close friends /family, but I am aware there are different ideas of normal in that regard.

Mc3209 · 11/03/2021 16:02

If I had approached her asking for said widget, then yes, no problem.
