Thank you to EerilyDeleted for being an excellent leader on the October thread! Time to put your feet up for a well earned rest now!

This is my first time running the thread so sorry if the links below don't work I'm learning as I go!! If they don't I'll come back and try again Grin

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chatter along the way.

The FlyLady link is here Don't be put off by the twee language of the site – we all agree that the underlying system is very effective.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead.

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around again next month.

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with marketing nonsense. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce baby steps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
  • And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the baby steps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders.

Here's the launchpad for more experienced fledglings Launchpad.

Don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t. Some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers very, very welcome.

SingToTheSky put together a glossary of the many weird and might-seem-a-bit-cliquey terms. We have been going a long time but we always love newbies - hopefully this list will help you settle in.

KCC - the Keep Calm Corner, invented by our lovely Fledgling SC back in March, where the OP posts nice diverting links, memes, questions etc to distract us from the pandemic.

Ta Da - instead of a to do list (which is of course welcome too) we often post our achievements, with accompanying jazz hands, in order to celebrate the positives, however small they seem! Sometimes if we want to share an embarrassed giggle/commiserations we also post a ta didn’t - the stuff we didn’t get done!

BRC - Bag/Box of Random Crap. These are usually formed when we are panic tidying and shove anything in “to sort later” which is also known as a stash and dash .

Power of Three or PO3 - the idea that if you’re feeling really unmotivated/overwhelmed by your to do list, you just choose three things to do, and then post when you’ve done them.

DLMS - didn’t lose my shit - in other words, somehow stayed relatively calm despite a stressful day!

SS/S&S - Swish and Swipe - this is one of the key parts of the morning routine, a quick once over of the bathroom.

Home Bleugh - Flylady's Home Blessing routine

And a few basics:
LOL - load of laundry
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer
DW - dishwasher
HSL - hallway, stairs, landing

And finally "The Naughty Corner" - this is for Fledglings who perhaps didn't get done what they had planned for the day but are in need of a comfy seat, pile of cushions, tasty snacks, stiff drink and friends to chat to

Just finished nails (3/3)

Bowerbird5 · 01/11/2020 23:00

Lovely nails ED 🙅🏾‍♀️😀That is something I should do in lockdown look after my nails more. I don’t bother with them unless one get raggy.

SingToTheSky · 01/11/2020 23:38

I need to look after my nails too. I was hoping to find a nice clear varnish, the one I tried recently chipped off within hours!

SingToTheSky · 02/11/2020 00:42

Tomorrow (or rather today* 🙄)
🎯get DS settled into home ed and finish the plan - I am not going to add more this week because the next few days are so up in the air
🎯bind loose worksheets for the week into a book as there are plenty all around two topics
🎯DSD is seeing us later in the day for essay help
🎯might meet a friend
🎯I may pop into town in the morning since I didn’t today and there are a few things I need to get, but it all depends on what else is happening and when I wake up
🎯collect Cagletini at 12, playground, walk home
🎯try not to LMS at various people/situations

Not asking much of myself then Hmm

SingToTheSky · 02/11/2020 01:04

Forgotten ta das
🐇future friend - got Cagletini’s bag packed and clothes ready for tomorrow. Glad DH is walking her there though.
🐇ordered clear strengthening nail varnish :o little by little I will engage in more self care!

Fab start to the month flushi!

Glad nothing nicked hazel but ugh what a horrid experience :( I have had frequent words with DH who confronted shoplifters too often, even when he wasn’t actually working, he has stopped now.

Really must sleep! Hope everyone has a pleasant Monday! 🍒👋

HauntingHazel · 02/11/2020 06:16

ED love the nails! Are they gel or regular polish? I also did mine today and discovered one colour changes depending on if my fingers are hot or cold. First time using it so didn't realise what was happening at first 🤣 (I bought a bunch of gel colours from a coworker)
Sing well done on future friend with getting cagletini's bag ready
bower I'm sorry to hear about your sister. It sounds like she is in the best hands.

Other ta das:
🍁 Took some Halloween decorations down
🍁 Took dead plants from pots outside and disposed of them, along with rotting pumpkins
🍁 Swept a little bit outside on the patio where I made a dirty mess (didn't go too crazy though as the wind is blowing
🍁 Put the cushions from the swing into the shed for storage before the snow comes
🍁 Picked DDs friend up from work and took her home
🍁 Watched 3 movies total today; Hocus pocus, Frankenweenie and corpse bride
🍁 Did my gel nails
🍁 Got clothes out for tomorrow
🍁 Took a shower
🍁 Swept kitchen floor as I kept finding dirt/ crumbs underneath my feet 😡

I have ignored the bedding on the floor in the living room from the boys sleeping in there. It's not like me to leave stuff like that, but I really wanted to relax today.
Our anniversary is tomorrow, 18 years! DH is taking me out to dinner tomorrow night, so I'm looking forward to that.

foxessocks · 02/11/2020 06:46

So sorry - welcome to handbag! How did I miss that?!

OP posts:
foxessocks · 02/11/2020 06:54

Morning everyone. Great nails ED!

Happy anniversary for tomorrow hazel

Bower yes hope mog and sc are both ok. Loved the little shoe emojis Grin

It's still blowing a gail outside so the school run will be fun Hmm

I forgot to say our mission today is to get rid of Halloween decorations etc from the front of the house / shake out your door mats . This lets me off the hook as I have neither ...but perhaps I should hoover the porch instead.

Bye for now!

OP posts:
EasilyDepleted · 02/11/2020 06:55

Morning all,

They're normal polish Hazel so they'll be dull by tonight and the tips worn by tomorrow unfortunately, I'm hard on nails. With top-ups they'll hopefully last a few days. I have gels a couple of times a year from a salon normally (holiday and Christmas) but find removal a PITA.

SingToTheSky · 02/11/2020 08:02

Welcome Handbag!

I’m awake and did try to get back to sleep for a bit, but I’m going to get the shopping I need instead, or at least some of it because it’s a few bulky things (including a tub to store Halloween decorations a la mission du jour! They are down already, but in an open tray which isn’t good storage) and I’m not sure I can manage it all in one go.

PO3.1
❗️Up, weigh in (will be bad, I ate so much yesterday!), quick shower and dressed, breakfast
❗️Finalise today’s HE plan for DS (minimal)
❗️Head into town armed with list

🍒👋

EasilyDepleted · 02/11/2020 09:27

PO3
Tidy and clean shelf in living room (sticky drink marks 🙄)
Investigate new tumble dryers
Follow up DS's PIP assessment

TeaOneSugar · 02/11/2020 10:25

Apologies if this gets asked regularly. Does anyone use an app to help with to do lists, reminders etc. ?

foxessocks · 02/11/2020 12:22

Hi all just checking in on my lunch break! It was a wet and wild school run this morning but the weather is looking beautiful now.

Well done for the power of 3s already achieved today!

Tea I don't personally but I'm sure some apps have been mentioned on this thread before so hopefully someone will have a recommendation!

Ta das
School run and nursery run
Dinner in the slow cooker - Italian chicken , just a dump it all in job as had to start work so not much time!
Work
Wiped kitchen sides
Dishwasher on
Washing hung up
Sent message to a friend that I've been meaning to do for a while
Refilled the hand soap
Rubbish out to bins
Bins out
Made a smoothie

Bloody phone /MN refused let me in so I've just read last few pages October, the three here and my fudge like brain has no idea who I was going to say what to so sending hugs to all after Boris little speech on saturday...

Big news here was I got 1230-730 off sunday.dd1 took zoolets off my hands and cooked them a roast!
I read 3/4 of a book under a fluffy blankie whilst tackling the neverending laundry mountain.
It was bliss til they got back and all started complaining- D's had bad palpitations and missed me,dd2 was stressed, anxious and mad I cajoled her to go as "now feels 100x worse and it's your fault" and lil zoo unhappy had to eat elsewhere and feels overate/ate too much to the point I was more stressed than having them all underfoot 24/7Grin
My first bit full time out from all in over two years
Bedlam ensued after, but there we go.this is why I call myself live in a zoo cos I bloody well do..

Today has been high dramas and shouting from dd2,lol zoo did half day again not eating before and eating around half old days lunch on return,D's ultra clingy and I resorted to lots time PS4 so I could get home bleurgh done/breathe

Man coming tom to check electrics so place needs to at least habited by humans,so been bit full on returning order to half term slum ....

I. Am. So. Fucking. Tired.

That is all.

TheUpholder · 02/11/2020 18:50

So glad you eventually got some time out Zoo, even if the aftermath was stressful.

I’ll have to try that Foxes. I did create a list of easy recipe ideas a while back. But then lost the list Grin. Haven’t thought about doing it on my phone, despite me listing everything else on there.

Scary experience for your MIL Hazel. Glad she’s ok!

Lovely nails ED

Hi Tea, I’ve used a few different to do list type apps but can’t remember any of them being better than the others. I now just have a list in my phone notes that I edit each morning when I can be bothered

This morning I had to take an elderly relative to an appointment, and browsed the shops next door while I waited. Got a few Christmas bits for DD, some winter boots for me (with a surprise 25% off at the till) and some new bedding and fitted sheets. That will definitely be my last shopping trip for a long time I think otherwise it’s the supermarket and online.

Ta Das:
✅ LOL done and dried on line
✅ big tidy
✅ ironing done and clean clothes away. Clothes/bags sorted for tomorrow.
✅ check on Christmas budget
✅ upstairs dusted and hoovered
✅ cleaned up acrylic paint splodges after some pebble painting with DD
✅ new bedding in WM

I’ve enjoyed having DH off today. He’s been in charge of feeding us and doing the dishes, and I got an afternoon nap Smile.

TheUpholder · 02/11/2020 19:03

Cross-post. Impressive flying yesterday and today Glitter

Forgot to say happy anniversary Hazel and MrHazel.

foxessocks · 02/11/2020 19:17

glitter oh wow, I use keep notes for meal plans, food lists, shopping lists and have never noticed the tick box option so thank you 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
foxessocks · 02/11/2020 19:24

zoo I'm so glad you had some time to yourself although appreciate it probably was undone but the stress when they came back...

Some great lists today! Mine didn't really progress after I posted earlier, was so busy with work and then school run and then work again. I have put all the clean washing away though and put more on to finish in the morning.

Up glad you've had a nice family day, sounds lovely 😊

Glittery so sorry about the exam stress Sad
I'm.amazed by your two chickens cooking - that is so great, do you have a huge oven?!

Sing oh no, hope you're okay and having a well earned rest now

Sorry if I've missed anyone! I've got to go to badminton now , last one before lockdown so must make an effort to be on time 😂 so I will do the links for tomorrow either when I get back if I'm not too worn out or tomorrow morning.

OP posts:
HauntingHazel · 02/11/2020 19:26

foxes my anniversary is actually today! With being 7 hours behind all of you I forgot it posted Monday! That's all my fault 🤪 I haven't wrapped the gift I got DH yet though, thinking I might just take it with me (to work) and buy a bag. Not ideal, but better than grabbing it from the closet it's in and saying here you go!

ED I'm hard on nails too, ended up ordering the light and gels online and they last me 2-3 weeks now. I did buy a removal kit as well, although I'm bad and will pick it all off.
Welcome handbag and anyone else I have missed that's new. I apologise. I don't plan on doing any flying tonight, but I am off work tomorrow so will get a lot done then.

foxessocks · 02/11/2020 20:32

hazel I did wonder if I'd got that wrong - sorry! Happy anniversary take 2 😂

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 02/11/2020 20:45

Happy Anniversary Hazel.

Zoo sorry to hear they gave you stress when they came home. It will have undone the distressing time DD1 gave you.

Sing hope you got some rest.

Well it has been all go here. I was up just after 7:30am as I had to do a Covid test (study)before 8am as a courier was coming this morning but we didn’t know what time.
Weighed Christmas cake ingredients and soaked in brandy.
Made Hummingbird cake as we had some very soft bananas.
Dbuilder was supposed to be here at 10. So I had breakfast then courier turn up as it was pouring down bless him he had knocked at the front door so was looking a bit bedraggled after I went with it. D was a bit late and we had other things planned. He has done the tiles but we need two more and then he will grout them. He is waiting to see new
Rules and if he is allowed to work. If he can he will sort out the hall if not he has two houses to build. I said he could point the house if dry.
Some home bleugh done while he was here.
Bed made, changing tomorrow.
Vacuumed all downstairs.
A bit of tidying.
LoL
Washed up.
Some BRC
Vacuumed Hall upand down but not stairs as Dbuilder was finished and came to look at hall.
As soon as he left we went to large village but the road was flooded again and AA were trying to start someone’s car we wondered if she had driven through it then car conked. Some other roads just passable if one waited and you drove through middle.

I have ORDERED my turkey. How organised is that?
Then home again as DH had annual check up. He dropped me off on the way. Didn’t have time to post sis parcel or get meds so tomorrow for that.
Made fish for tea, left over veg and roasties.
DH has trifle and I had an elderflower jelly which was delicious.
Fed hens who were trying to keep out of the rain. I made sure I didn’t slip today though very muddy. They were pleased I had some bread. My head is still sore and I have a bit of a bump but not feeling fuzzy today thank goodness.

Plan tomorrow

Vacuum stairs.
Put charity shop bag in the car.
Make a start on dining room.

Sort coats
Start on dining room- put away anything on hot spots
Vacuum.

🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋

To everyone.

foxessocks · 02/11/2020 21:14

Super organised on the turkeybower!

Ok links for tomorrow
flight plan
Tomorrow's mission is 15 minutes decluttering in the front entrance (I really, really need to do this so pointy stick for me please!!)

Tuesday focus is plan and play! I usually finalise my meal plan / food shop

Tomorrow is my first taste of new work hours so whether I get any flying done at all is another matter Grin
