Thank you to EerilyDeleted for being an excellent leader on the October thread! Time to put your feet up for a well earned rest now!

This is my first time running the thread so sorry if the links below don't work I'm learning as I go!! If they don't I'll come back and try again Grin

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chatter along the way.

The FlyLady link is here Don't be put off by the twee language of the site – we all agree that the underlying system is very effective.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead.

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around again next month.

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with marketing nonsense. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce baby steps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
  • And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the baby steps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders.

Here's the launchpad for more experienced fledglings Launchpad.

Don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t. Some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers very, very welcome.

SingToTheSky put together a glossary of the many weird and might-seem-a-bit-cliquey terms. We have been going a long time but we always love newbies - hopefully this list will help you settle in.

KCC - the Keep Calm Corner, invented by our lovely Fledgling SC back in March, where the OP posts nice diverting links, memes, questions etc to distract us from the pandemic.

Ta Da - instead of a to do list (which is of course welcome too) we often post our achievements, with accompanying jazz hands, in order to celebrate the positives, however small they seem! Sometimes if we want to share an embarrassed giggle/commiserations we also post a ta didn’t - the stuff we didn’t get done!

BRC - Bag/Box of Random Crap. These are usually formed when we are panic tidying and shove anything in “to sort later” which is also known as a stash and dash .

Power of Three or PO3 - the idea that if you’re feeling really unmotivated/overwhelmed by your to do list, you just choose three things to do, and then post when you’ve done them.

DLMS - didn’t lose my shit - in other words, somehow stayed relatively calm despite a stressful day!

SS/S&S - Swish and Swipe - this is one of the key parts of the morning routine, a quick once over of the bathroom.

Home Bleugh - Flylady's Home Blessing routine

And a few basics:
LOL - load of laundry
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer
DW - dishwasher
HSL - hallway, stairs, landing

And finally "The Naughty Corner" - this is for Fledglings who perhaps didn't get done what they had planned for the day but are in need of a comfy seat, pile of cushions, tasty snacks, stiff drink and friends to chat to

Ah. Woke up at 3:30 and can’t get back to sleep and my alarm goes off at 5:30. Clearly will be dropping off at 5:15. I’m aware putting my
phone down would make sleep more likely but already tried for an hour. Realised I forgot the rest of my ta Das yesterday though:
🎁 upstairs dusted
🎁 tackled some new mouldy spots springing up round the landing window
🎁 cleaned bathroom including mould and mildew spray on grout, and scrubbed another small patch of the floor with pink stuff and a toothbrush
🎁 ironing/laundry away
🎁 ordered some Christmas gifts
🎁 dug out wooden advent calendar and our elf ready for tomorrow, chocolate in drawer 1 after eating a few Thankfully our elf doesn’t get up to any mischief so no extra work there Grin

Ta didn’t:
⛔️ Floors
⛔️ any zone work. Planning on putting the tree up at the weekend so zone 5 will be done then.

Sing that’s the level of December preparedness I always aim for too. Only the nice bits left to do. I’m never quite there but I don’t feel too far off this year. Thanks for the link to the new thread.

Woolly wow at your list Star. Yes it is a wood burner. I love it, but to be honest we rarely use it so it has turned out a rather expensive ornament. DH is going to sweep it all out to we can light it on tree day though, very cozy.

Mc hope mctiny has given you a good night tonight. DD is still in her own bed for the second night in a row 🙌🏻

Hope you feel better Tinselette and Dancing. Hope test is negative ED.

Thanks for a brilliant November thread Foxes, top leading!

Off to place mark on the new one 👋

Oh man. Shattered.

ta da
🦆arranged my first bit of tuition work in a few years! So excited!!!
🦆a bit more Christmas present discussion and shopping - really on the home stretch now
🦆discussed DH’s birthday with DD1 and ordered a couple of bits (it’s late January but I generally try and have presents sorted before Christmas)

Hopefully I’ll remember to go to the new thread in the morning and not forget I’m hosting this month 😂 can’t believe it’s December already.

Thank you Foxes hope you enjoyed your first thread leading experience! 💐

Woolly fetid pit 😂😂 that made me giggle. And wow, what a list. How are you even still standing. I was emptying the hoover today too, I hate that job. I got this ancient corded hoover beast, but it sucks really well if the filter is clean.
Sing well done on sorting out the home ed!
Sherin that's good you are in Tier 2. Hopefully it will help with little one's cabin fever. And re ta das, really do what works best for you, we will support you no matter what.

I actually managed to finish all of my to do list! Feeling quite proud. Now retiring to bed. DH is playing some Italian pop from 60-70s, which I also quite like.
Good night everyone!

Aww foxes sorry about the early start. They make days super long! I am very glad none of mine have ever been early risers (mind you it would be nice if they then went to bed earlier 🙄😂)

No need to be more with it tomorrow, on the thread at least - I’ll be setting up the December thread tonight!

I am hoping Cagletini will sleep soon, I really want to get the last present ordering sorted. Managed to find jammies online which was the only thing I was thinking I’d absolutely have to get in the shops after lockdown, so I’m pleased about that, just need to order DS’ pair. What I really want is for there to only be a few fun things left to sort out in December - the odd new decoration, cosy house things like the aforementioned cushion covers and smelly things, crafty/baking type stuffs.

SingToTheSky · 30/11/2020 19:43

Oh I meant festive smelling potpourri specifically. Cranberry, orange and that sort of thing I suppose?

ta da
🦆bathed Cagletini... swapped out with DH for the post bath tantrum
🦆finished putting clothes away
🦆put a bag for odd socks on my wishlist
🦆got Cagletini’s clothes ready for tomorrow
🦆BOOKED YOGA FOR THURSDAY!!! I am chuffed. Wasn’t sure if it would be on but they have some classes available.

I only have five mini questions to finish typing up tomorrow, I could push myself to do it tonight but TBH the deadline isn’t until 3/12 - I am pleased not to be in a rush! I can easily get that done tomorrow morning. Yay!!!

Sorry for my lack of personals, lack of ta das, lack of everything today! Ds was up at 5am because of a bad dream, work was full on and I'm shattered now 😩

Hazel I have told DH the type I really don’t want (many designs are cute cartoon animals and such - much as they are sweet I would never have the guts to wear them, so he was instructed to choose a patterny one instead! :o

I’ve been thinking about making the house smell festive - will definitely look for a seasonal reed diffuser. However I’m also thinking of buying potpourri. And a pretty (but not too expensive) bowl for it to go in. It can go on the piano this year (by next year I’ll have got rid of it in favour of the digital 😩). I’m guessing making it would end up more expensive although perhaps quite fun. Thoughts? Is it frightfully old fashioned these days?

Hi everyone. I managed to get some sleep last night, the heartburn is a bit better today but it’s a nightmare, I never really had it with DD. I haven’t done too much today, DM came over with an advent calendar for DD, which is good as I had completely forgot it was December tomorrow!. Also I’ve been reading back through my old posts and realised yesterday I said I live above a shop, I have no idea where that came from because I don’t😂 I live in a maisonette so I am above someone but it definitely isn’t a shop. Please excuse the baby brain!. Also I hope you don’t mind if I post my list as one big list at the end of the day, I just find it easier that way. I put up the lights in the window so we are all decorated now. I’ve also been informed by my friend that we’re in tier 2! I thought we were in tier 3 so that’s a very pleasant surprise because it means I will be able to take DD out now! Our soft play will be opening on the 2nd and it’s just took so much pressure off me trying to entertain her.

hazel I’ll try sucking on a mint, I’ve never had heartburn like this it keeps me up at night, it’s awful!. I’ll definitely get some rest, I’m known for overdoing it😂 sometimes I feel guilty that I don’t work so end up going crazy with housework to make up for it.

ED thank you, I managed to get a few hours in. Milk really helps me, but it also causes my skin to break out so it’s a catch 22, though I’d rather have a breakout than heartburn. I hope your DS’s friend isn’t positive, if they are would that mean you have to isolate?

I hate losing posts wooly!

I’m glad McTiny had a good night, but I’m sorry to hear about the sleepless nights mc! I hope he gets into a sort of routine soon.

hills good luck to your DS with his mocks! Sorry about the lack of sleep though it seems like a lot of us are struggling to sleep at the minute.

Actually zoo I haven’t considered a diary! I’ll start doing one and then can cut out the crap. I can’t believe how much flying you’ve done! I hope you’ve managed to rest your arm a bit though.

I’ll try that dancing thank you!I hope your little one feels better soon.

Good going on the assignment work sing. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that your appointment goes well.

I love the garland up sorry about clingy DD, I’ve also found my DD is struggling with independent play at the minute, she needs me to occupy her almost constantly.

I hope you don’t feel too poorly tinselette!

Right, I have to go. We’ve just served up tea, and then we need to take ddog for his second walk of the day, but it is hammering it down here!. We’ll have to get our waterproofs out.

Cheers mc I will be more subtle but basically what I would be saying in truth is “gimme the drugs please” 😂 I have an excellent (expensive) psychologist who understands ADHD/autism and my history much better than her so that is the sole purpose of my visit - to try a non-stimulant which is supposedly better for anxious ADHDers. I couldn’t ask for that one in the first instance as I was still BFing Cagletini at the time but she’s fully weaned now.

ta da
🦆more studying - I am really pleased with myself today
🦆home ed planning including binding a book for the end of term maths

Going to put some laundry away in front of Netflix now. Need to distract myself from food as I’m super hungry.

ta didn’t
❌phone GP to start the dreaded CAMHS referral for both the Caglets. Can’t face that battle yet - we have jumped through all the hoops required last time but I still have a feeling they’ll not deem us desperate enough. Sigh.

Zoo I hope you manage to find some time to rest your arm, lovely. The housework will still be there (unfortunately.. I wish there were fairies who would magic it all away).
Sing fingers crossed your appointment goes as you desire.
Up that garland is stunning!
Tinselette I hope you manage to shake off the winter bugs. I took one look outside today and did not bother leaving the house. I want the crisp sunny days back!
Hazel I love spending my days entertaining little human. He is very cool. At present, I can't even imagine going back to work (but thankfully I don't need to think about that just now).

Ta da so far:
🎉Sorted out the aquarium
🎉Cleared a hotspot in the living room
🎉LOL
🎉Piano tuning booked for tomorrow

Still to do:

  • dust and clean the surfaces in the living room
  • unload the dishwasher

Aww thanks for all the cake comments. I’m so pleased I actually made a Proper Cake (the other attempts I’ve made recently were the sort where Nutella is used instead of a few ingredients so VERY simple... yummy though!). I’m hoping it tastes as nice reheated!

I’m relieved as I have got an appointment through for the psychiatrist on Thursday. She is not the most understanding about ADHD to be honest but fingers crossed she will let me try the other type of medication, that’s all I really want from the (hour long!) appointment. The letter doesn’t say anything about covid measures so I’ve no clue if I need to wear a mask the whole time.

I am in a planning frame of mind so I’m going to make a small maths book for the rest of term, I need to find or make 12 sheets of questions as he will have 12 “school” days left once he finishes the angles stuff. Off I go!

Sing I had forgotten it was you who had made the upside down pineapple cake, that is one recipe I've never tried myself. It looks amazing! The idea of using a different fruit is a good idea too and something that wouldn't have crossed my mind. That's exciting news about new leggings for Christmas, I hope he picked wisely.

up I love your fireplace and garland, it's perfect! Good luck with DD today.

mc sounds like you've been busy. Treasure those moments with the baby, as they don't stay small for long! (I'm sure you've heard that a lot, sorry)

zoo another epic list, but I don't see you resting your arm in there anywhere 🤔

Hi everyone.

Sing that cake looks fab! Your creation sounds lovely too Bower.

I can’t believe how much progress you’re making with the decorating Zoo, especially with the bad arm. I hope you get a chance to relax in your lovely new room once it’s done.

Yesterday’s ta Das:
🎁 living room floor done
🎁 roast beef dinner served, perfectly timed for DH getting home
🎁 2 x LOL
🎁 some Christmas planning
🎁 wintery walk up to the butchers... which was closed. It’s definitely normally open on a Sunday
🎁 convinced DD to put her pens away and to let me wash her hair
🎁 kitchen sorted (DH did it)

Today:
🎁 fed humans and cats
🎁 DW emptied and refilled
🎁 survived supermarket trip with DD who for the first time ever did not want to sit in trolley. Treated myself to a new festive reed diffuser and a garland for the fireplace (pic attached, excuse the dodgy angle, there’s a huge mirror above and I was trying not to get my reflection in the the photo Grin)
🎁 shopping away
🎁 hob and dining table wiped
🎁 another LOL in
🎁 s&s downstairs

Still need to do the dining room and hall floors, hoover and dust upstairs and clean the bathroom, plus iron work and nursery stuff. Struggling today as DD is being super clingy and wants me to play with her constantly. I try and always play with her a little bit every day but she used to play independently really well and I can’t get her to at the minute. Right, getting up and trying again.

👋 to all.
