Thank you to EerilyDeleted for being an excellent leader on the October thread! Time to put your feet up for a well earned rest now!

This is my first time running the thread so sorry if the links below don't work I'm learning as I go!! If they don't I'll come back and try again Grin

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chatter along the way.

The FlyLady link is here Don't be put off by the twee language of the site – we all agree that the underlying system is very effective.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead.

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around again next month.

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with marketing nonsense. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce baby steps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
  • And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the baby steps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders.

Here's the launchpad for more experienced fledglings Launchpad.

Don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t. Some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers very, very welcome.

SingToTheSky put together a glossary of the many weird and might-seem-a-bit-cliquey terms. We have been going a long time but we always love newbies - hopefully this list will help you settle in.

KCC - the Keep Calm Corner, invented by our lovely Fledgling SC back in March, where the OP posts nice diverting links, memes, questions etc to distract us from the pandemic.

Ta Da - instead of a to do list (which is of course welcome too) we often post our achievements, with accompanying jazz hands, in order to celebrate the positives, however small they seem! Sometimes if we want to share an embarrassed giggle/commiserations we also post a ta didn’t - the stuff we didn’t get done!

BRC - Bag/Box of Random Crap. These are usually formed when we are panic tidying and shove anything in “to sort later” which is also known as a stash and dash .

Power of Three or PO3 - the idea that if you’re feeling really unmotivated/overwhelmed by your to do list, you just choose three things to do, and then post when you’ve done them.

DLMS - didn’t lose my shit - in other words, somehow stayed relatively calm despite a stressful day!

SS/S&S - Swish and Swipe - this is one of the key parts of the morning routine, a quick once over of the bathroom.

Home Bleugh - Flylady's Home Blessing routine

And a few basics:
LOL - load of laundry
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer
DW - dishwasher
HSL - hallway, stairs, landing

And finally "The Naughty Corner" - this is for Fledglings who perhaps didn't get done what they had planned for the day but are in need of a comfy seat, pile of cushions, tasty snacks, stiff drink and friends to chat to

ta da
😑got DS’ work sorted for the day - he did a reasonable amount considering how hectic it was
😑town for a few bits, not including Halloween storage tub though as nothing lidded in B&M
😑found the present I was looking for in B&M (was there a few months ago and I thought I may as well buy it while I was in there) online as it wasn’t there - little fairy lights with photo clips on for DD1’s room, she loves fairy lights and Kpop photo cards so this will be great
😑put up our new weekly planner - got a big wall sticker blackboard thingy and now it’s by the front door with the chalk pens so we have no excuse
😑got a little deflated at the fact there’s already much less on the planner because lockdown
😑collected Cagletini from nursery and met Homestart volunteer in the park, then walked home again
😑took DS to meet friend in our local park, catch up chat with his mum who is lovely
😑helped DSD with an essay - I’ve left the other one to DH as I can’t make head or tail of it
😑emailed work coach
😑cancelled recurring alarms for booking yoga/aqua fit
😑edited tesco shop to include some more necessary bits

Still in a lot of pain and am going to try and sleep now. Yoga tomorrow, and meant to have DS’ friend round for lessons. I think the next two days will be much like today, and am resigned to the fact I’ll be absolutely useless by the end of the week! 😂

I am still sore from the near miss with the stairs for the weekend. Tbh i think sore has only just properly kicked in. Yay fibro. bastarding disease

Not much achieved other than a food shop. But work have confirmed furloughed for lockdown. Which means i am trying to fit nearly 2 weeks worth of work into 2 days and not do overtime.

Tomorrow we have a materials delivery, which is going to require lifting and manhandling. I reserve the right to spend Thursday in bed doing fuck all except taking suitably spaced pain killers and moving only enough to confirm alive... it probably wont happen but a girl can dream

The news out of vienna Sad what the hell is with 2020. Cant humans catch a break at all?! I fear the reports tomo when they finally are able to confirm what is and has happened.

handbag i have to confess (and it will probably age me) that every time i see your name all i hear in my head is a rather posh upper class woman's voice going "a handbag? A HANDbag?" bonus points if you get the reference - clue it is a book that was turned into a film, and i believe might have also been a play

Sorry bit dosed up on the strong pain killers tonight. and this tired they make me a little loopy. Hope to make more sense tomo. night

Busy day for me today!. I always struggle a touch going back to work after half term, but with the looming lockdown I’ve lost all motivation. I’ve gave myself a bit of a shake and am trying to crack on but I’m still feeling a bit funky. The DC have struggled returning to nursery too, and the weather didn’t help!.

I’m glad to hear I’ve started off good, hopefully I can keep it up.

Really lovely nails ed, I’m awful and bite mine so can’t paint them!

Sorry your DC made a nice day stressful zoo

Happy late anniversary hazel

Oh wow bower that’s really organised about the turkey. I have got nothing sorted, and it’s DD’s best before Christmas as well.

Sorry you aren’t feeling so great hills

ta da
Not too much today, I did general making beds, dinners, washing up etc. Didn’t hoover or sweep, but took down Halloween decs and planned a few bits for DD’s bday

Flushi not late at all! It's only just gone 9pm here 🙂
Thank you all for the anniversary wishes. We had a great day, although we both had to work. We went out to eat at olive garden (Italian), ate way too much, but enjoyed our time together. We came home to the creation DS made (pic attached). It was super sweet.
bower I hope you're doing okay. I wonder if you need to get checked out, it could be a concussion.
hills I hope your aches go away soon too.
Sing Hopefully tomorrow will go well for you with DS having a friend over for school.
glittery enjoy your quiet house.
zoo I'm glad you enjoyed your time alone for a few hours. I do hope you can do that more often, for your sanity if nothing else.

Today I took the Halloween decorations down at work and put the harvest/ autumn ones out. No one else seems to care at work, so I do. I'm there a good portion of my week, I'm going to make it pretty!
Tomorrow I need to do the same at my house, treat my table and sideboard to some wood oil, as well as laundry, including sheets. I do have a hair appt tomorrow as well and will need to fit in grocery pick up.
🍒👋 to those I missed

Hazel your DS' creation is adorable!
Re decorations at work, the beauty of having a sole monopoly over it is that you get to do things precisely as you like it. No need for negotiation ☺️
Happy anniversary!

Flushi that's a great ta da. I hope you manage to beat the funk soon.

I am slowly cracking through admin bits I wanted to do.
Ta da for yesterday:
🎉Thank you notes written and ready to be posted
🎉Cars are booked for MOT
🎉LOL X1
🎉Have done some sort of semblance of morning and evening routines

To do today:

  • get in touch with back up nursery re place. The one I've already applied to may not have a place available by the time I have to return to work from mat leave in 1 year (and that's despite application form going in when I was about 5 months pregnant).

Good morning BrewBrewBrew

Not the best nights sleep here, I kept waking up too hot, too cold, and then ds came in because he'd wet the bed. He hasn't done that for ages. Got him dry and stripped his bed, he then went back to bed in his bottom bunk but I couldn't sleep properly after.

My first task of the day is to convince ds to have a wash as I couldn't face doing that at 2am!

Oh Hills sorry you are also on the fibro flare bench (well, comfy sofa rather than bench, I hope). It is indeed a bastard. Hope the painkillers help and it’s a short lived flare 💐

I think I saw a local am dram version of that play - my mum often said the handbag thing so it stuck in my memory :o

Aw foxes poor DS (and you for having to handle wet sheets in the small hours) maybe he was knackered from being back at nursery?

I forgot to do my “tomorrow” list last night so:

ToDAY
🎯I’ve got yoga, friend hasn’t messaged me cancelling so assuming she can still go, but I’ve decided for yoga and potential swim I’ll get taxis if I need to, knowing it’s the last chance for a month
🎯need to get DS set up with his work, again not too much aimed for and I’ve got lots printed already
🎯main thing is to decide what I’m doing with the boys later, I am now having to treat each session as if it’s the last, whereas I had ideas for several more weeks - I am just going to try and finish off the topics for the term. Then if we do get another week or two before Christmas, whatever we get done is a bonus. I don’t want to take “lessons” with them on zoom, I don’t think it would work for them really
🎯not actually sure what else is happening today, DSD might need a bit of help again with the essay, I was hoping to meet friends but not sure they can fit it in.

So with that in mind,
PO3.1
❗️Get up, check in with people already up (taking clothes for Cagletini downstairs) then come back up for weigh in/shower (inc defrost because my yoga leggings are shorter!)
❗️Breakfast (not even pretending it’ll be healthy), water and painkillers
❗️Get to yoga either with friend or by taxi, there is no way I’m up to walking today

🍒👋

Hazel that is so sweet. Glad you had a good evening.

Hills sorry to hear about your flare up. Hope you feel better soon. Bruising coming out too perhaps.

Yes, I am very pleased with my early order. I usually do it on the 1st Dec. I was going through my journal book which never became a proper journal when I found the page. In 2018 I wrote down everything I bought and whether enough or too much and last year we had too much as he didn’t have the size I wanted. So ordering early to make sure I have one. Couldn’t order sausage, bacon or stuffing though. Buy on the day23rd. I heard there would be a shortage of smaller birds and I know he buys local turkeys.

Yes Hazel I think it was a bit of concussion hate to say it but been there before so I know the drill. If I had been like it yesterday I would have been seeking medical advice.
Flushi you are off to a flying start. Have we lost the other newbies already?
MC how are you feeling. Hit the weepy day’s yet? All normal it’s the hormones.
Foxes sorry about the interrupted night. Bless probably slept too heavily. We had it with one of ours for a while.

Plan for today
Strip bed.
LoL
Wait for builder
Post parcel to sister for when she comes home. Heard nothing.
Pick up prescription.
Lunch.
Make a start on dining room.
Make first Christmas Cake.
Walk to BFs if time.

Hills did I see add extra table leg on your to do list?! Or am I going mad, can't scroll back easily on my phone...

Yes ds is very tired at the moment, but he was happy to have a shower this morning which was pretty amazing and he went off very happily with my mum to her house to do some cooking 😀 he did actually have a bit of a lie in this morning so hopefully that's done him good. When I say lie in I mean 7.15 instead of 6.45 ish Grin

Meal plan fiddled around with and decided on dinner for tonight and tomorrow
Read instructions for opticians tomorrow, it's a bit complicated as it's for contact lenses so I will have to wear my glasses afterwards which I can't really drive in so I will have to stay in town for an hour or so until I can swap back to contacts 🤦‍♀️ I really should update my glasses to the correct prescription!
Work and more work
Made lunch
Washing hung up / some folded
Dishwasher emptied
Breakfast things tidied
Washing up
Rubbish out to bins

My to do list is too long to even contemplate as usual. But I really must get round to that porch decluttering!

Yes foxes you did. Grin We have a bench in the study that is support by the wall and 3 supports. Over the last 20 odd years the desk top has twisted slightly and is showing its age and requires an extra support leg to be stable and safe for computers to be held up on it and trust it wont give up. Easy enough job as we have the bits. Just need to remove the technology on it and finish tidying up.

That half hour extra makes all the difference!!

Outside work paused to warm up and dry clothes on which means it is inside stuffs for the next hour and half ish. before heading back out to do more outsides stuff

I only really have one bra atm 😂😳 the others are so old the hooks have come out, one even got so misshapen it was scratching my back 😂 and then my sports bra got mangled in the wash 😑 so I have replaced that (although in a more interesting colour combo 😂) and bought another colour of the bra that does fit. I was tempted to try some similar looking ones of the same make but even that is a bit of a risk and I really CBA faffing about with returns if something isn’t right 😳

I am so bored. Blah. Must resist the temptation to spend more money 😑
