Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

I HAVE CLEANED MY BATHROOM
StarHaloStarHaloStarHaloStarHaloStarHaloStarHalo

It's amazing what you can do when there's something you should be doing...

Weird dreams, involving the Tardis and some superhero and gangster film concepts and an explosion fire and someone being dead and finding a room to hide but not going somewhere without another exit...

(my dreams have got a lot weirder since I started watching films regularly Grin) So anyway I woke up quite early and got up earlier than usual but then spent a whole load of time on my jigsaw, so.

Exercise class
shower etc
sprayed stuff on grouting in shower
washed lettuce, made lunch
did more jigsaw
cleaned shower, including door seals etc
used the special heavy-duty expensive tape H bought for his polycarbonate greenhouse to bodge a fix for the under-door seals which are falling apart. No idea how long it will last but at least it's not flapping about any more
demonstrated to S1&2 how to close the shower doors (ie lift slightly as it goes over)
wiped round rest of bathroom
put cleaning cloths and filthy hand towels on a 95 wash; will do towels tomorrow morning
washed up from fish and chips
decluttered the dregs of the salad cream which is 30 months past its best before date - I've been wondering for a while whether I should throw it, and one taste today confirmed this

oh and I also made bread for bacon sandwiches, and the breadmaker pan didn't get stuck!

and I've remembered that last week I got out the pliers and reattached the plug chain in the kitchen sink, which I'm ridiculously proud of

foxessocks · 17/07/2020 20:58

Great list merry Smile

My gin / wine o clock isn't going to plan, the kids have only just settled down, the new bunk beds are making them a tad over excited and they are also too hot to go to sleep 😴 anyway, we've distributed ice packs and threats of sawing up the bunk bed (that was dh, he likes to go to the extreme which is why the kids don't take him seriously! 😂)

I now have a cold glass of wine Wine

School’s out for the summer Grin. I mean, really, we finished home learning last Tuesday but today was the last official school day. Rollercoaster day as I usually find the last day of the school year even in normal times. Started off badly as unfortunately I LMS while we were getting out of the house. However, we all said sorry and then had a nice day. DD/ was able to go into school for a few hours for a leavers thing (she left infants today). I have to say despite my reservations over how the school handled the home learning, this leavers thing was beautifully done. I want to send a thank you email but not sure they will be checked now school has finished? Spent some rare quality time with DD1 in Costa. Was very impressed how organised our local Costa was. Then park. Picked up DD2 and treated both to an end of term toy. Day then dipped when I foolishly let them have far too many sweets and an ice cream. Then the usual zoom meetings and bedtime etc. Unfortunately I LMS again at DH when he got home as was knackered by that point. Now feeling guilty and debating opening some prosecco that was saved for the end of term. So an up and down day Grin.

Thanks for the pat on the back SC, same to you Grin.

foxes, enjoy your wine.

The use of pliers is definitely something to be proud of merry Smile.

Big wing flaps to Lane, KT, zoo, Hazel, ED, Bower and everyone else.

Gr8 lists every1! And I hope u all enjoy ur summers now the kids have finished school! So scary 2 think this time next year I’ll be prepping for Logan 2 start nursery!! Not ready 2 give up my little baby

Not dun much flying but I rearranged my living room. I’ve attached a pic. I used 2 have 2 sofas and it took up a lot of space so got rid of the 1 (will sell it and hopefully get a bit of money) but have now got that wiv the kids toys there so that they can have a big area to play with their toys that isn’t right in the centre of the living room. Cuz we only have the one room it’s sort of like a separate playroom.

Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread
Stilllivinginazoo · 17/07/2020 22:07

princes kids toys do take up loss space so if get rid sofa works for you to gain a few inches of floor go with it!
MerryStarfor that tada
Stressy schools usually have emergency staff on call,or have staff in for a week or so in order prep rooms etc prior kids returning.not sure that's covid friendly tho...
Lane motivated or not the work got done!

Think we should hang bunting and crack out the alcohol/mocktails,pool (as it's warm) and some salty snacks, fruit and all the chocolate and cake in naughty corner

WELL DONE LADIES.WE SURVIVED SCHOOL IN LOCKDOWN!

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/07/2020 22:40

Good point, thanks zoo. I think I will email. Worst thing that will happen is they get it in September.

Sounds sensible to get more floor space for toys mummy. I would definitely count rearranging a room as flying Smile.

Managed to have grumpy row with DH, not even entirely sure why. Ugh. However I am now sitting ON MY OWN with my Prosecco and going to have a look through the school stuff before bed Smile.

MrsTidyHouse · 17/07/2020 23:15

Worked my way through some more children's books and jigsaws. Put some more into storage cupboard.

Up and down stairs umpteen times, tidying. Things are looking a lot better, feeling more under control.

Sorted a couple of boxes for DS. Put papers in one box, wargaming in another.

He hasn't produced any laundry for about a fortnight. Yuck!

I think I dream about tidying. Often waken with a sense of having made a decision and then get up and do it.

Lisette1940 · 18/07/2020 00:24

Many inspiring ta da posts here today 😊💐💐💐💐 We are ahead of you here in Scotland because school has been out since early July but I can understand the relief! I've actually now bought all shoes, wellies and soccer boots for the next school year and the uniform has been organised as ds is back week starting 11 August. Soccer training is starting back next week.

I have cleared out more books, organised the house insurance (a job many on here hate too), made my first batch of Millionaire's shortbread and bought a council waste sticker for our garden bin.

I have ordered a non-wired bra which I'm so looking forward to. I must be the wrong shape for wired because the wires always dig in at the front even when fitted properly.

Lisette1940 · 18/07/2020 00:26

Boiler still has a leak as first repair not done quite right so they'll be back Monday. I was under the floorboards finding the leak again!

I am having a haircut next week ✂️🎉🎉🎉

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/07/2020 06:03

Lisette aaargh about boiler.are you planning a trim or a revamp?

Wish I could sleep properly my eyes are stored they ache, but my brain will not just switch off and let it happen....

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 18/07/2020 07:11

Morning all!

My eldest two dc do have some school things at the start of next week but these involve minimal input from me so I'm still saying school is finished!

Bower if your school have any form of social media you could maybe wish the year 6s good luck on there?

Princes i have been wondering where my baby has gone also as the 10 month old has now decided not only can he walk, he can run. Hmm

Well done to lilzoo and lilchic!

We had a walk through the park yesterday and although not through the playground bit i could see / hear DC playing on the equipment. Am i the only one still feels funny letting mine do this? Sad

I have started making lists of who needs what for September. Dc2 starting high school so £££.

Lisette1940 · 18/07/2020 08:10

Might keep it longer zoo. Had a slightly longer pixie pre lockdown but I enjoyed the slightly longer layers. It's just straggly at the moment with pointy ends.

Lovely morning here fledglings ☕🥐q

KTCluck · 18/07/2020 08:24

Morning everyone, caught up now.

StarHappy first day of the summer holidays!!Star

Massive well done to Lil Zoo Zoo and to your DD for her hard work too Chic. In fact well done to all of you and DC for soldiering on the last few months!

That DD has been to the park once when it was quiet and I just cleaned her hands afterwards. It didn’t worry me too much, but then I’ve worked throughout so things haven’t felt too different for me anyway, and we’ve had very low infection rates in our town. I can absolutely see why you might not be keen on the idea yet, and I think that’s fine. If you aren’t ready the DC won’t come to harm waiting a little longer.

Well done on the bathroom cleaning Merry and your decluttering sounds like it’s coming on really well Tidy. Dream decluttering must really help Grin

Have you managed the dossier stuff yet SC? Do you need that kick? I’m not sure I could do that to you so could maybe start with a gentle tickle with the pointy stick?

Hope you enjoyed the Prosecco Stressy. Sounds like you needed it after a row. Hope you didn’t share it Grin

Good idea to lose the sofa princes.

I did forgive DH for the towels Meg. He got an eye roll when he pointed out at least they will be super clean now. He’s brought me a cup of tea in bed this morning so he’s in the good books. Hope DS enjoyed his birthday! I might adopt your birthday table idea. We open presents on our bed but it gets a bit chaotic so might try that next year before DD is old enough to become to set in her ways.

Right must get moving. Morning routine and downstairs home bleurgh to be completed this morning, some ironing at some point over the weekend and then we have absolutely no other plans.

I’m sorry I have neglected the KCC for the last couple of days. I’ve found this this morning though Smile

Family fun day today. As we have no plans I think I’ll leave what we do up to DD. launchpad if anyone wants it.

that we still bit meh about shared play equipment.dd2 /lil zoo loves swings and the wooden climbing stuff but we giving it a swerve still.we make the choices for our DC on so many levels everyday about risk.everyone does it a bit different and that's ok

Having seen the proposals now for our school sept I am absolutely crapping it,anyone else?

If dd2 had decided on the college course she would be temp checked, sanitise hands and expected wear mask, keep 2m from anyone, incl in lessons etc

In school its business as usual with bit hand sanitizer.if person sat next to you drops get a test.if more 2in class drop we taking gov advice.given a gov care about is economy, not health I'm not really feeling it.am I going crazy?

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 18/07/2020 09:30

We have so far only had plans for primary. Logistically they were crap. Many complained and changes were made. Class bubbles. 2 to a desk facing forward. Eat in class rooms, designated outdoor play area. No pe kits, own pencils cases etc.

Pissed off at lack info from secondary. Is yours class or year group bubbles zoo?

I find it 🙄 that BoJo the BoZo gives nhs billions to prep for second wave while also encouraging people to get out there. Saying we could be back to normal by xmas is just stupid

LaneBoy · 18/07/2020 09:52

Morning all :) I should probably have a little to do list but actually, fuck it, it’s the holidays and I’m going to enjoy the first day with no guilt! I’m only going to do things I actually WANT to do. Slightly concerned about the lack of laundry 🤔 but the Caglets could do theirs instead.

HOY from the secondary school said something about bubbles on the phone the other day. She said they have a plan but they have to wait for some announcement in August? I don’t think the official letter from school said anything - made it all seem very “back to normal” but HOY said it really won’t. No idea how bubbles would work in such a massive school, especially now they’re all doing options (GCSEs start in y9 there) - that does worry me a little although at least it means there are fewer subjects to worry about.
