Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

I have made mistake of lying on my bed 😕

KTCluck · 30/07/2020 08:10

Morning all. Completely slept in this morning but managed to make it to work on time for a cooked breakfast from the canteen Left DH to clear up the mess is in the sitting room as well as the kitchen he didn’t sort last night. I did make the beds, get DD ready and pack her bag though.

Tidy sorry you had a stressful day, but what a good idea to do a practice run of the school routine. Hope the car gets sorted quickly.

Sorry you’re feeling stressed about school etc That, it’s all still frightening isn’t it.

Hazel I’d be very grumpy at that too. Well done for getting it done though, as it would have been easy to just leave it but then you’d still feel very annoyed waking up to it to. Hope they were well aware you were upset.

Meg I love seeing old family photos, sounds a lovely day.

Hope you’re feeling better this morning Lane

Still zone 5 today, I think, and it’s errand day. I did that yesterday but continued to procrastinate have a good day fledglings. I’ll be back tonight here in on lane’s lovely shiny new thread if we need it by then. 👋

Morning all,

Just managed to read through and catch up. Can't stope for long, but just wanted to say:

Mummy - great job on the decorating, no mean feat doing it by yourself with two little ones to supervise.

Bower - hope you feel better today. I love making jams and chutneys and agree about the proper equipment, I got a jam pan in Aldi a few years ago and it makes such a difference.

KT - thank you so much for this month's thread, an oasis of calm and happiness amongst the craziness that is MN these days.

Lane - thank you for offering to run the next thread, you do a great thread leading job too.

SC - fingers crossed for DH holiday!

MrsT - I get spells when things like the credit card statement cause me great anxiety too, it's hard to see past the what ifs. I did a CBT course with the local NHS service (by phone) a few years ago and it has really helped.

Need to go, things to do, never ending lists. Back later.

Goodness where is everyone this morning.

We pop back and read yesterday’s posts. Sorry I didn’t get in yesterday it turned out to be busier than expected. Spoke to my sister and brother in law in Australia, two friends appeared but missed each other both sent off with some black currants. DH picked them. Wish we had picked more it is persisting down this morning. I found out why so many police have been going past. DH said they have a policeman guarding a section of the village he will be getting very wet if he’s there today.

Thank you for all your good wishes finally I feel a bit better and I had salad for lunch and a small potion of pasta and some sorbet for tea. Feel ok this morning but not 100%.

LaneBoy · 30/07/2020 12:15

Glad you’ve managed to eat bower

KT it sounds like DD gets loads of time with you, all the everyday stuff like in the garden and going to the beach, that adds up! It doesn’t have to be every day either.

Tidy sorry about the anxiety, well done for trying the school run!

That what a lot of bubbles! We just have the rule for DD1 that she showers immediately after school (still washes hands on entry though as it’s so easy to get distracted and hug us, eat, touch the bannister etc).

I need to think a bit more about this though as I’m getting a little concerned about this second wave (BTW when do flu jabs generally start being available? September?). I have been fairly relaxed thus far but with colder weather approaching and less compliance with any further lockdown likely etc... it does worry me more now. Especially as while I was fairly sure we did have the virus, that was back in March, and there’s no concrete evidence that immunity lasts I think? So I need to be stricter with the rest of us (I’ve spent so many years trying to settle into a routine of when showers etc happen and it’s stressing me that we now have to build it around when we’ve been out!). And with door handles and stuff like that.

Meg yep more than happy to do the thread! Especially as we don’t need much in the way of links. KCC will be more free form but I still enjoy that sort of thing!

I have barely moved all morning. Bit stressy - DD1 has friend round, and this afternoon we are going to DSS’ flat for the first time! Both of those things are lovely but it’s change - I actually realised not only is it the first time I’ve been in anyone else’s home since lockdown, but I can’t actually remember the last time I was before that either. DSDs also moved in lockdown so I haven’t been there yet (DH has to help with a few bits but for dinner etc they’ve come here), my best friends generally come here if we are hanging out as I’m the one without the car and there’s thankfully plenty of space in this house, or we would meet for lunch or whatever. Haven’t seen my parents this year as we hadn’t got round to it while I was quite unwell Jan/Feb (I might be visiting ALONE for a few days soon but that takes planning as it will also be when I wean the toddler 😭😭😭). I really do live in my own little bubble most of the time even without a lockdown. Crazy. And gives me a lot to think about! I need to arrange to see friends anyway - it seems that I’ve become the organiser

Sorry I’m mega waffling now. And I’ve still forgotten what else I was going to comment on from up thread, sorry. I’m going to go and start the new thread (already wrote the OP so just copy and pasting), will put the link here and then I am going to put the iPad on charge and actually attempt to get on with the day!

LaneBoy · 30/07/2020 12:36

Oh I forgot to say the other thing I want to do to prepare is to be more organised with shopping - book more slots and stock up a little more, as DH is even worse health wise now and the more we can avoid actual shops the better.

And yes need to think about Christmas too! Got DS’ birthday in late August (half sorted) and Cagletini in late October, not sure we have money or space to actually sort much for Christmas but I have been good with collecting ideas. At the very least I need to sort DD1’s Kpop merch so it has plenty of time to get here!

Anyway here is the new thread. Feel free to use this one to capacity first! I’ve namechanged too.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/3982143-August-already-Time-keeps-flying-like-the-Fledglings

Right now I really need to move and kick this overwhelmed feeling into touch!

Lisette1940 · 30/07/2020 13:11

I have cleared and tidied under the stairs. Did not run today so will work out later.

LittlemissAWOL · 30/07/2020 13:18

I had a good sleep last night but for some reason I'm more tired today.

So far
👿 everyone up, dressed and beds made
👿 made breakfast wraps (McDonald's style) for breakfast
👿 dishes
👿 LOL
👿 ironing (not put it away)
👿 hoovered and cleaned tables
👿 sat and watched nature programmes with DC
👿 chopped some grapes and got some biscuits out for DC (how they were hungry after breakfast I don't know)

That's pretty much it. Been sat watching TV most of the day. The boys made a camp. Made them sandwich, yogurt and cake for lunch. DS4 is Joe napping and when he wakes up we are going to go for a walk. I could just have a nap myself tbh.

xmummy2princesx · 30/07/2020 18:48

You’ve had such a stressful day tidy I hope you’ve managed 2 rest❤️

I’d be fuming! hazel

THAT that does sound rly stressful!

Thank u meg that means a lot. Have drew up a general daily routine that I will stick to and then add the odd bits of flying in there 2. I bet that notebook brought back loads of mems! I’m going 2 struggle loads when my 2 start school! I don’t know how I’ll fall in2 the routine

Glad 2 hear ur feeling a bit better bower I’m worried about the flu jabs cuz the little ones will need nasal sprays but I’m worried it’ll set off their asthma

Princes your lists are getting longer, you seem like you’ve got a great routine in place.

Thanks Lane, I know logically she gets plenty time with me. I had two siblings and parents who worked full time and I never felt deprived of attention so I know she isn’t. There’s just always distractions in the house isn’t there. Something else that needs doing, and then the next thing I know my day off is over. Thanks so much for starting the new thread. I’ll head over now (and I’m due a name change).

I just wanted to thank you all for keeping me company on the thread this month. I’m pleased my leadership didn’t scare you all away! ‘See’ you on the new thread.

Oh and last few ta das July
✅ hung up LOL I set off this morning
✅ did some financial bits
✅ have sworn to sort kitchen and living room before bed.

I've only just got used to Lane!

I wrote (with an actual pen) a detailed list for today - here it is (ignore the dates - I repurposed an unused diary given to us by a technophobe). Didn't manage the last three or the hoovering upstairs, and only did a small amount of ironing

but

I have written my report! - first draft, anyway.

ToMorrow
go for an early walk
exercise class
download all the other reports and start some semblance of order
hoover upstairs

see you all on the other side

Hi everyome,
I feel like if I post here....i might do abit of house chores....today I am going to S&S bathroom.
I have started putting away some clothes.

Going to try uncover the floor of fraggle twos room and introduce plastic baskets. I plan to put a picture on the front....unicorns live here....play hairdresser toys in this basket.....maybe it might be easier tidying it up.

July I got sidetracked reading the twillight series of books. I love reading and felt like I was doing something for myself. Wish I had more books.
Mum guilt also kicked in a felt like I should be doing more activities with the fraggles so we have started cycling a twice a week. Its been lovely to get out of the house.

Hope you are feeling better Bower.

Cherry wing flaps to everyone.

LaneBoy · 31/07/2020 13:14

Hi dancing! Lovely to see you :) Going to catch up with new thread now as I saw you’ve posted there too, but I definitely approve of the plastic baskets with labels idea!

Bowerbird5 · 31/07/2020 16:35
