Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

KTCluck · 30/06/2020 21:50

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

that it's a year group, but sheer size of school they halved it to 5classes( about 150) kids.this is a "bubble"
Technically dd2 and lil zoo walking together breaks bubble rules.should I keep one in the shed??
I am reliant on 149 other family's being sensible
All subjects are open as usual
Pe for first two weeks are in uniform with trainers
Another local secondary saying wear or kit for the day as changing rooms are deemed risky
In my opinion a Bubble is a bollocks term for free for all but try make it sound safe
I pity teachers.in no other profession would you be expected mix 150+ others indoors with no mask.flies in face a medical advice, plus those who have been shielding are being thrown back to the wolves.a shit show, that's what it's going to be

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/07/2020 12:47

Oh a uniforms as usual.advice about wash after wearing(which in place for the two hours lil zoo could've gone in wednesday>) has now been said not nec come sept

A pencil cases must be see thru plastic
.no sharing /borrowing from each other

No lockers to prevent crowds gathering in one spot.tjats a HUGE amount stuff to carry around, esp those in GCSE/a level years where works done in A4 /box folders...

Damn, those things are cute! 😍

I have successfully lazed the morning away. Did week 2 of my maths course but that’s just fun 🤓

I’m feeling the urge to do my workout though so I may go do that before showering. DSS is visiting later but I don’t need to be very social then as they’ll doubtless just be talking football anyway 🥱😴

KTCluck · 18/07/2020 13:16

Afternoon check in. Not very much to add though. It’s been a very lazy Saturday in the cluck house Blush

✅ beds made
✅ me and DD washed and dressed
✅ LOL in
✅ DW emptied
✅ clean clothes carried up and sorted
✅ some financial stuff done
✅ odd bits of tidying here and there

DD has done some painting as well as ‘decorating’ the dining room by stringing gift ribbon all over. Leftovers for lunch and she’s now settled watching TV.

To do:
📌 fill DW
📌 LOL in dryer and another load in
📌 dust, vacuum and mop downstairs

Lisette I’d never heard of them either. Cute little things.

We have received info from secondary. Year group bubbles, staggered start and finish plus breaks, they are saying kids can wear face masks if do so responsibly so wonder if they are allowing teacher to.

Re year group bubbles i wouldnt think twice about letting my y7 walk with my y8. But if one of them also had a friend i guess thats a no no?

EasilyDelighted · 18/07/2020 16:35

No information from either of my DCs schools yet (both secondary, one DC will be starting 6th form). We'll have to see.

We are visiting DFIL today, first time since Feb (lives 100 miles from us). It's nice to be back, been sitting in the garden all day but had to retreat to conservatory due to rain (just stopped again).

LaneBoy · 18/07/2020 16:47

I am lazing on the sofa reading the TOMM book :o

LaneBoy · 18/07/2020 18:26

Ok I’m slightly ashamed that the supposed level 1 maintenance jobs seem like waaaay more than 15min 😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/07/2020 19:31

that dd2 walked with another girl and lil zoo.collectively this year they are years 7,9,11 so it'll be a no come sept..she's from of family of 4dc who will be in years 2,6,8,10 in sept and are not strict social distancers either...

Like meg I really need just shelve it all for now.it may be come August free to do as like rates rise and we end up back to remote learning by sept.i shall be watching Scotland's attempts with interest as they go back mid August

Someone suggested schooling should be primary small bubbles and secondary most remote learning with check ins with tutors, with be on site based on need

Right.i shall say no more on the subject,I really need get off my bum n sort tea

Tonight's offering a super comforting bowl cheesy pasta with asparagus, broccoli, black eye beans and squash.lots fresh chopped parsley and basil and black pepper.quick(squash is frozen chunks,so no chopping) and easy❤️

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/07/2020 19:41

Both my DDs will be in junior school in September. I have been so, so impressed with how amazing the junior school has been with all of this and their planning for September is amazing. For the first time ever, I don’t want them to get older as I really don’t want them to have to leave for the big bad world of secondary.

SC, dare I ask how the dossier is going Flowers?

Lane, I have not managed to do TOMM properly during lockdown. Pre lockdown though, what I did for the level one jobs is do 15 mins then stop. Eg hoover for 15 mins then stop. I also didn’t count things like washing up or starting a LOL in the 15 minutes or, as you say, it would never have got done.

Mixed day here. Lockdown emotions I think! DD2 had a great day. DD1 had a rubbish day. Both now starting to argue and I think it will very soon be bedtime.

xmummy2princesx · 18/07/2020 22:11

zoo I deffo have more space now am really chuffed. Can let the kids play and watch the tv without them being in front of it!

too I’ve been putting off as I thought it make the room feel a bit bare but not 2 bothered about that now bcuz I can just turn my back on toys which is much better!

Sry about the boiler lisette

that how are u coping!! I think I’ll have a minor breakdown when Sully starts walking :( I think bcuz I have no intentions on getting back in a relationship I know he’ll most likely be my last baby :(. About playgrounds I feel a bit funny 2 the boys can’t go anyway but I do think I’ll hold off a little while

I came on my period 2day so feeling crampy and horrible. Got 2 get an early night cuz I’m seeing dad 2mo for a walk around park.

merryhouse · 18/07/2020 22:18

I did some of the ironing?

I also walked to Tesco's to buy some salt because I realised last night that we are almost out and H will need some to prep the crackling tomorrow. Got some broccoli, which never keeps from Thursday, and may have inadvertently knocked some fruit jelly sweets into the basket.

I also washed up three times and did some washing, so would usually be ok with that for a Saturday.

Watched Frozen 2 (was quite charmed) and ate S1's flapjack

Tomorrow
emails dammit
finish ironing
ask S1 if he's heard any more about having to clear his room out (a date would be good, as would knowing whether the road is likely to be accessible...)
make loaf for sandwiches

Bowerbird5 · 19/07/2020 00:49

Zoo&Chic great to hear they are doing so well.

It must be a nightmare trying to sort out school pupils.

Ta da
🐛I’ve washed the bathroom floor. It is really lovely I will enjoy washing it for a while anyway.
🦋 painted the shelves, top.

I have been outside a lot today it was lovely and warm. I was listening to a play while painting then DH got the lawn mower out!

Oh and Ned was being interviewed on Radio 4😮😳

Need to pick lots of black currants and we need to buy more sugar for jam making next week.

Enjoy tomorrow 2Princes
That 10 months noooooo!

Bilbys are really cute. I have seen some in captivity also saw Tasmania Devils which I was always taught were extinct. Someone found some and some in captivity now. They look like cute little dogs about the size of a Jack Russell. Then watched them throw meat in...of my goodness you should see them vicious. You would not want to be in there much worse than a dog fight.

LaneBoy · 19/07/2020 08:35

I forgot yesterday’s list!
ta da from Saturday
☀️FL maths course
🌈workout
☀️LOL x2 (first in dryer

Lisette1940 · 19/07/2020 08:55

Bilbys sound a bit like Gremlins then Bower!

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2020 09:10

Morning
Massive row *d"p last night with rare occurrence of me telling him if he's going to be a completely passive aggressive twat I have no desire to listen and hung up

Bowerbird5 · 19/07/2020 09:23

No it is the Tasmanian Devils that are like that. I don’t know how to attach links but have a look at Featherdale, NSW as they are the ones I saw. There was more than two about five I think. There is some more footage of them on You tube.

The Bilbys just hop about looking cute.

Power of three
Make bed
Prepare dinner
Paint trellis

Hope everyone enjoys a warm, dry Sunday. Relax and recharge your batteries.

Bowerbird5 · 19/07/2020 09:35

Cross posts😄

Zoo his twatty behaviour often coincides with helping you with shopping. Sorry this has happened again. He seems to rarely put you and the children first and he doesn’t think things through.

KTCluck · 19/07/2020 09:51

Oh Zoo Flowers. Well done for not listening to it any longer. The offers of alibis and digging we made to That extend to you too. Can I just say that I think you’re amazing that no matter how much you have on your plate you always manage to provide the DC with such healthy food. I’ve had a fairly stress free few days and have served shreddies and strawberries for breakfast for the last week Blush

You did loads yesterday Bower. It’s just occurred to me that I haven’t painted the woodwork in the downstairs toilet yet. I put the stuff away and forgot all about it. It really needs done too.

Merry I liked frozen 2 too. Particularly enjoyed Kristoff’s 80’s-esque cheesy power ballad about being lost in the woods Grin

Hope you all have plans to renew your spirit today. I’m planning some fresh sea air (it’s a glorious day, but windy) and a peaceful soak in the bath.

Yesterday for the first time in ages I didn’t manage to bleurgh downstairs - I left it until the afternoon at which point the sun came out and we ended up out for a long walk and trip to the park. I did do the dishes and and an extra LOL before bed though.

This morning’s ta das:
✅ DD’s bed made, ours stripped and bedding in wash
✅ s & s
✅ clean towels folded
✅ wiped smudgy hand print off landing window
✅ DW emptied and breakfast bits in
✅ half-arsed dust downstairs
✅ token effort at hoovering downstairs

To do:
📌 hang bedding on the line
📌 mop downstairs
📌 something out the freezer for tea. No roast for us today for the first time in a while
📌ironing for the week/bags packed/meals planned/weekly planning and reflection etc etc

I’ll do links the evening ready for the new week

KCC - some light-hearted relief in the form of silly faces.

Hope you all manage to enjoy your sundays. Tom is on shift in the naughty corner tonight if anyone needs some respite. It’s 2 for 1 on cocktails.

Lisette1940 · 19/07/2020 11:26

Sorry Bower and bilbys - misread the post.

Bowerbird5 · 19/07/2020 11:30

Bed made
Renew your spirit -Went to Mass in Bristol. Lovely altar.

DH brought me a cup of tea so I stayed in bed for a while. He has go walking. Going to have my coffee after Mass. We usually have one at church I am missing them but like SC still feel it is a bit soon and I am watching online. Lots of others must be doing that as there is a lot to chose from. Quite interesting.

Going to check out the pork he bought on Friday. It seems quite a big piece for us. I might cut it in half. I like it the next day and for a sandwich but don’t want to be eating it for days. I have told him fish Tuesday and Fridays. Pasta Wednesday - often veggie and try to eat veggie another day.

Will pop in later. Oh and I have to do shelves again as they had to be on a slant to dry and it has run in three places two on one and one on the other. Damn! I think I will sand them and paint in situ. I didn’t before as the wall is deep turquoise and I thought it to risky. I won’t paint the edge again. They are very old shelves we bought cheaply and they have come up a treat.😄 saves money again. DH says I am tight😮just careful with my spending. Will need to be more so soon as probably no wage after August.

Bowerbird5 · 19/07/2020 11:34

No don’t be Lisette just thought you might like to see them. I couldn’t believe the change in personality when they were fed. Featherdale have lots of the animals free to wander around but these were in a low pen so you looked over into them sort of clay walls.
I think that is where we saw the Billy’s but it might have been Queensland. It is 10 years since I last went. I wanted to go when I retired but no way at present.
