Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

Maybe it’s useful forward planning to put things off on other days so you have something to antiprocrastinate on Wednesdays 😇

Gah. I’m in a blah sort of mood. Should really sleep!

DD and I texted back and forth this evening, sorting out a few more jigsaws. Then she decided she would bring two large floor puzzles to my house because no-one at her place is interested in them, lol! No problem. I've got the space, and she definitely hasn't.

Got started on some children's books. Quickly found six or seven that are far too young. Then boxed up a few cars for storage.

Ran up and down stairs a few times to put things where they belong. Felt a lot better after that.

Sorry you are (understandably) feeling down Mummy Flowers

Thank you so much Meg and happy birthday to your ds1! Hope he has a lovely celebration (certainly sounds as though he will judging by all of your preparations!) Sorry about outdoor noise and disturbed sleep!

Merry you did loads!👍

Have a lovely weekend everybody! 🐎🐎🐎

Morning all,

I do agree that we probably do more than we realise around the house but it becomes automatic, just little things like taking something upstairs all help.

I also agree about DHs and admin, I've more or less given up on mine, he's never going to do it and if I get knocked down by a bus he'll be in the shit. It was a happy day in this house when HMRC started pre-filling the P60 data into the self-assessment form and we no longer had the 31st Jan ritual of turning the house upside down looking for DH's P60.

Mummy - that's a big step, not surprising that it feels emotional Flowers

Foxes my DD has bunk beds, the DCs shared her room for a few years when we first got them, now she refuses to give them up, she likes the cosy enclosed feeling of the lower one. I always planned to convert them to a high sleeper for her to have more space but no. The top one is mainly occupied by the cats now.

Lane - I've started thinking about the 16:8. One of my colleagues has a no food after 6pm rule apart from when eating out, I couldn't manage that but 12-8 might be ok, just. We do tend to eat quite late here.

SC - that does sound rough for your poor DD, I know endometriosis is hard to get diagnosed Flowers. Good luck with the documents.

Right, I need to get my arse in gear. Currently sitting in the garden with a cup of herbal tea but need to do stuff, starting with a list. Back later.

squanderedcore · 17/07/2020 08:11

Too true Zoo! Brew Those were the days when one didn't emit a little "uff" when getting up off the sofa! Grin The forties are good too mind you ... lets not talk about the fifties as we dont want to depress people this early in the morning Grin

Lane sympathies with being the bad guy. It's not nice (know this from experience in my official role as chief wicked witch).

squanderedcore · 17/07/2020 08:24

X post 😷👋 to Easily thanks and have a good day!

Must admit I am very lucky re: house and car admin which dh takes care of, partly because it's in very stiff business French which takes me a long time to assimilate, and partly because it's mostly tied up with business. I only have to sort the post.

KTCluck · 17/07/2020 08:51

I haven’t caught up with you all yet, just a quick check in on my walk from the car park. Normal morning routine complete, plus a hair wash for DD as there was something sticky in there Envy. Also my hair washed, legs defrosted and some make up chucked in the bag for some potential after work beer garden beverages for a colleagues birthday.

launchpad if you want it, pointy stick——-> for those that require it, Brew for those that need it, Star for you all because you deserve it and Flowers for those struggling. I’ll be back tonight to catch up with you all (once we’ve all decluttered our purses etc )

LaneBoy · 17/07/2020 09:27

HAPPY LAST DAY OF TERM!!!

It’s also world emoji day and the calendar emoji says July 17th so I will be using those for my ta da list today 😅📆📅

Right, I did NO power of three lists yesterday but I feel a bit more awake today. Can’t eat until 10.45 earliest and DS has his work to get on with, so in the meantime:

PO3.1
❗️Workout followed by big glass of water
❗️Start my maths course on futurelearn
❗️Digital decluttering - think I’ll go through my photos and delete a load of screenshots and the millions of photos taken by the toddler 🤣

LaneBoy · 17/07/2020 09:32

Ooh crap no I also need to send an email so might have to do that sooner!

I love that everyone is now defrosting legs 🤣

Re 16:8 ED I’m doing 11-7 or 12-8 ish at the moment. Some do much earlier but breakfast usually sets me up on a hungry day as I crave crappy carbs. Some people do 14:10 anyway.

Right. Exercise time. While trying not to trip over the toddler. I had such a good dream last night that I was going to spend the night child free at mum’s. Such small dreams...

Bowerbird5 · 17/07/2020 11:23

Hi,
Yesterday.
Caught up on thread.
Wrote a list of personals.
About to write TADAs then iPad froze and I couldn’t get it to work at all.

DH has manage to get it to work this morning thank goodness.
He has gone walking. He organises all the house and car payments and has a file to put everything in. He just leaves other stuff out. I like to have the paint and stuff organised in the shed but he messed up my neat rows of gloss, satin, k & b etc the rest of the shed is messy but I like to know where paint is. I also like the garden tools in the bottom shed and also the different feeds etc but he has moved them all to the old stable instead.

Yesterday
Ta Das
LoL
Fed hens
Ironing a big pile I have been putting off. I was waiting for Ned N Ted but we are more than 5 miles from the border so guess I will have to wait until next time.
Put ironing away.
Lunch was bacon and egg sandwiches.
Went to get paint and bought a trellis and a obelisk for the clematis that has fallen down because the plastic one had blown over. It was quiet as only three people queueing. It was lunchtime so maybe a good time to go as there was quite a long queue when we came out. It is quite spacious so no one near until just before we came out. There was a mum with two teens and a couple of younger ones 10 &8 approx who didn’t bother to social distance. I grab the cleaner for Everhot and went around the corner and now have a new bucket as I broke the mop wringer bit. So now I can wash the floor today. We bought stain for the shed so I can finish that as we ran out in lock down.

So far this morning I have painted the shelves for the bathroom. Tomorrow I plan to put the bathroom back together.
Breakfast dishes.
Sorted a few things.
Cleaned hot plates.
Cleaned sink.

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better.
I feel sad not to say goodbye to the Year 6. Some of them were my last Nurture Group.😢

Right off to paint another shelf. I stopped for a drink.🤣

I'm having a large G&T tonight Grin

ChicCroissant · 17/07/2020 16:44

Afternoon lovely ladies, not caught up yet but will crash on instead.

Freedom! After 4 months of homeschooling, it was the last day today and we've been out for an ice cream treat to celebrate. I'm so proud of DD, she's done all the work she's been set and is in the top ten per cent of her year for the amount that she's turned in.

I'm going to make myself a coffee and do a bit of work round the house.

LaneBoy · 17/07/2020 17:13

Hello all!

Brilliant news re DD and lilzoo chic and zoo! Bravo! Sadly I cannot say the same about my own teen, TBF she has kept working but it has been down to a lot of badgering from me rather than any sort of enthusiasm and good attitude on her part :o

Everyone has been jolly productive.

Awol I need to know about these cheesecake stuffed strawberries please... 😋

I am enjoying lazing as I have no school/home ed work looming. Enjoying the peace and quiet :)
