Hello all!

Thank you for joining us, please note if we seem cliquey it’s only because it’s a long running thread - everyone really is welcome!

Welcome to (probably) the most bizarre Flylady thread yet... in which we are attempting to impose/maintain some kind of order in our homes, while also many of us are adjusting to working from home and homeschooling the kids for the first time too! Not to mention the anxiety around health and accessing food!

Of course, normally the opening post would talk about banishing CHAOS - Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome - but now we aren’t allowed anyone over anyway :o so, let’s just try and make our homes nicer FOR US. We are spending more time than ever in them, so let’s make them really wonderful places to be, our own safe little nests for our families.

Flylady routines might just help us get through this crazy time, by giving us a little structure to work from when all else is unpredictable - but as usual there is no right or wrong here. All of us follow it only to the extent it helps us - we can take ideas and make them work for us. And the key principle is, YOU ARE NEVER BEHIND. I feel like that is even more evident now, with so many of these outside pressures and commitments suddenly gone, and frankly the days rolling into one!

This is potentially a great time to declutter. Of course, Flylady suggests 15 minutes a day - but perhaps in these unprecedented times we will all do more! But we are all busy getting into our own routines now that school is out, and work too for many, and we’ve lost a lot of the outside structure to our lives. There’s no right or wrong here, we just have to try and adapt.

Links wise, I’ll just post the launch pad, and will add reminders about zones too. If anyone has Flying questions, please ask!

Star The Keep Calm Corner Star
The lovely SC came up with the brilliant idea of the Keep Calm Corner last month - this is a daily post with things to make us happy! I figured each monthly host can make this their own, and I’m a little worried my taste in art and music would not be calming to most Blush:o so for this month, the KCC will consist of:
Star Some memes - either funny (we all need a laugh! Warning though - some will likely be unsavoury :o) or thought provoking/relaxation based. Do PM me (here or FB) if you have any you want to add!
Star A daily “ice breaker” type question - obviously answering these is entirely optional, and don’t say anything that will out you, but if you want to join in and create some extra conversations on the thread then treatment, we can all get to know each other better! Again, if you think of any questions please PM!

Thank you for settling in, and of course thank you to SC for making March such a lovely thread. Thanks And lastly, a huge thank you also to our key worker Fledglings, who are doing an incredible job of keeping things running! Thanks

I have two soap Dodgers and one "hippo"(no longer lives wallow in bath like one as anxiety don't like sit still but lives showering, hair conditioning masks/hair washing etc) saying that she has lax it down recently as low.iffered rub some lotion into her back later after a shower and massage her hands.she may be nearly 16 but still loves contact even if don't always want cuddles anymore!
Lil zoo positively feral on washing front, which as a girl is but startling..heyho she gets hump when I say you small have a shower .but most time anything else said us ignored and sometimes you need be blunt to get results!

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/03/2020 14:55

And autocorrect has turned most that into garbled rubbish.hope you get gist of it!!

Lisette1940 · 31/03/2020 15:31

I LOVE the intro Lane - what a great start.

And thanks so much SC for March and all your good cheer. Hope you are feeling better.

I appear to have Schrödinger's user name - on the website it comes up as one thing and on the app another - so I flit between Tinselette and Lisette!

Happy to do May SC. But both you and Lane will be a hard act to follow.

Fluffiest · 31/03/2020 15:32

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

@stilllivinginazoo poor you, cat barf is very yucky, although your post made me laugh

@givemeacall sorry about your relative, I hope he recovers soon.

My first ta-da list:

  • Did a big food shop and got 5 bags of 40l compost (£10 for 5 bags at Morrisons) for gardening project
  • prepared a planter with lettuce, baby cucumber and strawberry seeds with DD.
  • Followed the one touch rule and put away everything I have used today, even going outside to the recycling bin three times!
Lisette1940 · 31/03/2020 15:34

Don't forget soda bread. You can make it with milk and lemon juice instead of buttermilk. Or even condensed milk. You need bicarbonate of soda not yeast.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 31/03/2020 15:40

Thanks for the March thread SC and thanks to lane for the new thread.

Welcome fluffiest 👋

Managed
✔️ S&S
✔️ LOL washed yesterday switched on to dry as the weather not good enough for the line.
✔️ ironing
✔️ had a bath and shaved. I can't hate having hairy legs and it seems to make my eczema worse if I don't shave.
✔️ supervised school work for DS1&2. DS3 has watched some YouTube videos his teacher sent and read his book. Not much else work wise for him but I did let him blow dry my hair because we were playing hairdressers. He's had a shower as well so need to make sure the rest get bathed later.

They're now watching cartoons/playing on the garden and I'm going to try and make dinner with my limited ingredients. 2 weeks are up tomorrow and I can't wait to finally be able to go and get food. Sick of playing ready steady cook with the most random ingredients.

Lisette1940 · 31/03/2020 15:57

give sorry to hear about your relative. 50s is young. Hope he turns the corner 🙏

Lisette1940 · 31/03/2020 15:58

Waves to fluffiest - that's a fab user name for these times. We need fluffy not hard-edged

ExpletiveDelighted · 31/03/2020 19:21

Evening all,

Welcome Fluffiest, always room for another Fledgling on the thread.

Zoo - I would love to see s pic of your blanket at some point. I will post one of my current project when I'm back on my phone. If you do get any twinges in crochet hook hand I find ergonomic handled hooks make a big difference, my favourite brands are Pony and Knitpro, available on Amazon.

SC - here is a KCC link for you, following your comment about horses helping mental health, it was an article I read last week in Good Housekeeping horse therapy

Giveme - I'm sorry to hear about your relative Flowers

Stressy just pop in whenever you want to, we are always here to listen doesn't matter if you haven't done any housework

Tada!

Lots of little jobs today, in between WFH.

Swish and swipe
Disinfect doorhandles etc
Lots of bits of tidying
1 x LOL (managed to rig up a makeshift washing line which held up)
Exercise - half hour at allotment
Planted some rhubarb plants at home given to me by allotment friend
Made bread rolls, a bit heavy as my yeast is a year out of date, but tasted OK.

More EHCP woes for me today. This stuff never bloody ends. I only got the PIP form sent off last week, now this again .

LaneBoy · 31/03/2020 19:40

Ugh I do not envy you that expletive :( I should really consider using this time to finish the DLA application... hmm.

Not achieved anything other than a whole lot of faff trying to arrange a (non face to face) doctor appt for DS. Have to ring in the morning.

Still lying on the bed having watched some TV drama (Liar on itv hub), joints are achy again so I’m a bit miffed - however that often gets worse at period time anyway so if my calendar reading is correct it could be that!

DH planning to make a risotto tonight with some frozen salmon. Can’t wait! He also got these bad boys in the supermarket earlier! Woohoo!

I must do another small edit of the Tesco order before tomorrow night, since there’s a few more things we no longer need. Amazing how just a month ago I would’ve kept it on there anyway but an item limit means every single thing really counts!
