Hello all!

Thank you for joining us, please note if we seem cliquey it’s only because it’s a long running thread - everyone really is welcome!

Welcome to (probably) the most bizarre Flylady thread yet... in which we are attempting to impose/maintain some kind of order in our homes, while also many of us are adjusting to working from home and homeschooling the kids for the first time too! Not to mention the anxiety around health and accessing food!

Of course, normally the opening post would talk about banishing CHAOS - Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome - but now we aren’t allowed anyone over anyway :o so, let’s just try and make our homes nicer FOR US. We are spending more time than ever in them, so let’s make them really wonderful places to be, our own safe little nests for our families.

Flylady routines might just help us get through this crazy time, by giving us a little structure to work from when all else is unpredictable - but as usual there is no right or wrong here. All of us follow it only to the extent it helps us - we can take ideas and make them work for us. And the key principle is, YOU ARE NEVER BEHIND. I feel like that is even more evident now, with so many of these outside pressures and commitments suddenly gone, and frankly the days rolling into one!

This is potentially a great time to declutter. Of course, Flylady suggests 15 minutes a day - but perhaps in these unprecedented times we will all do more! But we are all busy getting into our own routines now that school is out, and work too for many, and we’ve lost a lot of the outside structure to our lives. There’s no right or wrong here, we just have to try and adapt.

Links wise, I’ll just post the launch pad, and will add reminders about zones too. If anyone has Flying questions, please ask!

Star The Keep Calm Corner Star
The lovely SC came up with the brilliant idea of the Keep Calm Corner last month - this is a daily post with things to make us happy! I figured each monthly host can make this their own, and I’m a little worried my taste in art and music would not be calming to most Blush:o so for this month, the KCC will consist of:
Star Some memes - either funny (we all need a laugh! Warning though - some will likely be unsavoury :o) or thought provoking/relaxation based. Do PM me (here or FB) if you have any you want to add!
Star A daily “ice breaker” type question - obviously answering these is entirely optional, and don’t say anything that will out you, but if you want to join in and create some extra conversations on the thread then treatment, we can all get to know each other better! Again, if you think of any questions please PM!

Thank you for settling in, and of course thank you to SC for making March such a lovely thread. Thanks And lastly, a huge thank you also to our key worker Fledglings, who are doing an incredible job of keeping things running! Thanks

Well done expletive! I love a yorkie:o

Well done on all that cleaning hazel

Must sleep! Ideally I’ll leave at maybe 9ish tomorrow although I must check the bus times coming back. Normally they’re every half hour in the day but I know some buses have vastly reduced timetables. I’d still rather get a bus than a taxi ATM.

bower yes, I'm a brit living in the USA! I've been here for 14 years the end of this month! My whole family still lives in UK and none have visited, other than an auntie and uncle. Actually my cousin moved over here too (other side of the country), and his parents saw us once when they visited him.

giveme sorry to hear about your loss, it's always harder when the people we lose made an impact in our lives.

I didn't do any more cleaning at work, it got too busy. My coworker had vacuumed and was mopping when I got back from lunch, so nice to know I'm not the only one cleaning. I'm relaxing now on the couch with a glass of tequila rose, it's been a long week!

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/04/2020 04:49

ednext time some fluffy yorkies for naughty corner please!!

Proud?can I be proud I maintained social distancing and didn't head over to "d"p gaff and slay him with a rusty spoon??Grin

Still not planted seeds
Did however sort over 60 recipes
Still loads to go...

Need head silly o'clock shopping today(co op/Tesco express) as need milk, bread, fruit confectionery/crisps whilst I'm there and cat food

HungryHazelEyes · 18/04/2020 05:08

Sometimes I hate Facebook memories. I knew today (17th) had some importance, but also knew it wasn't anyone's birthday. NOPE! It was the 2 year anniversary of my dad's death. Messaged my mum, she said she was up, to tell her I was thinking about her and to see how her day was. None of my brothers messaged her today, although she said she just noticed a missed call from one of them. I'm glad I messaged her.

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 18/04/2020 05:30

Morning all

Sorry to hear about your old teacher give
Two of my friends have lost grandparents to the virus, it makes it seem much more real and tbh has made me glad my grandparents aren't alive Sad my grandma would have been scared of this Flowers

Hazel I bet your message meant a lot to your mum, hopefully facebook memories gives your brothers a poke too Flowers

Lane I would be worried about the bus too. I got stressed out when on our walk the other day, so many people walked so close to me and the DC. I wanted to push them away but then that's not social distancing either is it 🤦‍♀️

Zoo you should be proud of how much you do on your own without that useless lump!

I do like a yorky pud, I always cheat though and buy frozen. I hate doing a roast dinner there are too many bits and I find the timing stressful!

Hazel where in the US are you? I have family in Florida

Fluffiest · 18/04/2020 08:31

give so so sorry, for your loss Flowers

Good luck to those on a shop run this morning, I hope its calm and straightforward.

bower well done on a productive garden day. I really need to get started on the new bed I want to dig in.

Yesterday's ta-da
❤ cleared out handbag and purse
🧡 vacuumed upstairs
💛 washed dishes
💚 put rubbish out
💙 baked apple and cinnamon scones with family. We gave some to our neighbours who are very lovely.
💜 cut pictures out of old magazines for DD to use in her art
🖤 did a Harry Potter quiz with DH
💚 worked more on the birthday montage video. It's almost finished, I just have about three more clips to add in

Today our plan is to do more baking this morning and then have an Afternoon Tea. I have a three tiered cake stand and some fancy plates. So I might even lay the table prettily and put on a dress. We can pretend we are at Betty's!

Bowerbird5 · 18/04/2020 08:36

Wow look at you all up early and some have lists of Ta Das already. 😳I’m still in bed. Just getting up to medicate the cat.

I used to be good at making Yorkies but something happened and I wasn’t. I use olive oil I wonder if that’s it. Will attempt some on Sunday and let you know how I get on. I have sunflower oil at the moment to make a carrot cake which I haven’t done yet. I will try that and I haven’t made any in this oven either.

It is still lovely here but windy. Yesterday afternoon the wind dropped and I spent a happy hour with the radios on while I made a trellis from bamboo canes for this beautiful Clematis named Joe that I bought last year. I want it to climb up the side of the summerhouse.

Yes going to plant seeds too. Found some of last years and ☺️Older.
ED do you think there is any chance they will grow?

Will try and pop back later. I feel tired today and not even up yet I went to bed at 11pm which is later than usual.

Bowerbird5 · 18/04/2020 08:44

Fluffiest that’s sounds like a lovely idea. Do it as your children will remember that. Get dressed up it will help them remember and they will have it as one of there better memories. I love Betty’s we went just before Christmas and they have vegan afternoon tea so I ordered that as I need Dairy Free. It was delicious. I might do it this week as I have some fruit loaf and I could make scones and a cake. I wanted chocolate cake during Lent.

I see Jamie Oliver has a gluten free recipe for chocolate cake on his current website linked to his programme. I have been watching sometimes. He made a delicious tart with vegetables the other day.

foxessocks · 18/04/2020 08:46

Morning all. I have had a bit of an off few days so sorry for being quiet, been struggling to get motivated especially in the afternoons 😔 and I saw your question about being proud of myself and couldn't think of anything!

Anyway I've noticed that after lunch I have a major slump at the moment so today I'm going to try and tackle that head on and make sure I'm doing something, we are thinking of going for a walk. Hopefully that will help.

So, I am proud of myself for making some nice meals despite lacking certain ingredients and stretching my shopping for over a week without the kids noticing anything is strange. We did a party food dinner last night at dd request which was great, she made a fruit salad Smile

LaneBoy · 18/04/2020 09:15

Morning all!

Last day in zone 3. Bit difficult to tell as it’s the Easter holidays and lockdown, but it’s Saturday. Family fun day.

💜💙💚💛🧡❤️ the keep calm corner ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Today’s memes:

  • advice for when motivation and coping skills feel lacking as I know many of us are struggling. I’m finding it pretty useful as I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to do loads and then I get so overwhelmed I do nothing. Tried finding memes on this idea but couldn’t so I screenshot this from my therapist’s FB page :o
  • a list of those annoying little everyday things :o
  • overthinking... relatable 😳

Today’s question inspired by the enemies meme: What other little everyday things annoy you? :o

For me the first things that come to mind are:

  • people trailing off mid sentence
  • people writing then instead of than. I don’t get where that came from, I’ve only noticed it the last year or so? I never point it out (I hate it when people criticise other people’s spelling/grammar online) I just give an inner sigh :o
  • people who don’t say thank you, barge in queues etc. But I also hate the sarcastic “you’re WELCOME” comments
  • people who have loud music or phone calls on the bus

Maybe what annoys me is just... people 😂

Spelling mistakes in things where there should not be any drive me nuts e.g. in communication from school or in something a business has paid to have printed

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/04/2020 10:03

Grrrr
Still.nothing at Asda or Iceland here...

Dd1 heading shops and offered grab cat food/litter for me,along bananas for D's and few other bits.my palpitations play up again and shoulders hurting/buzzing again.thoroughly fed up

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/04/2020 10:10

Morning all,

The thread is nearly full! I'm on the sofa with my crochet watching Phantom of the Opera on youtube, this one's only on for 24 due to right issues. I've seen it before.

Give sorry to hear about your lecturer, so upsetting.

Foxes your food related proud moments definitely ok in the current situation, I think its one of the most important things to keep a semblance of normality for them.

Hazel Flowers for you on your Dad's anniversary.

Bower - I use old seeds all the time, check the expiry dates, they're generally ok but germination rates drop off a bit so plant more than you want. Normally I'd chuck them if more than a year out of date but right now I'd try them no matter how old if they were all I'd got.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/04/2020 10:12

lane i am a passive aggressive you're welcomerBlushesp on footpaths when cyclists have no regard for try run zoolets over at high speed...

Things that annoy me
*Empty boxes/milk cartons put back away
*Odd socks
*Mixing fruit part corners into yogurt
*The 2000-1 ratio of plastic pots to lids
*Children that cant hear you unless you try eat chocolate/snacks in peace
*Being badgered for something whilst I'm eating.piss off and let me eat slowly and quietly IN PEACE
*Somebody wanting a poo within 5minutes of freshly scrubbed lav being done.dutto littertray
*Finding a random piece laundry that escaped being washed and everything else is now clean

It seems I am a very grumpy old ladyBlush

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 18/04/2020 10:51

I am more of a "watch what your bloody doing!" kind of person in that situation zoo
