February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Lane Grin. Aww I’m with your DH on the adulting team today then!

TooStressyTooMessy · 24/02/2020 22:03

Was going to do a power hour but at going to write today off and go to bed. Will hope for better tomorrow!

Bowerbird5 · 24/02/2020 22:20

Oh TooStressy what a shame and yes, and I have had lots of practice. I’m older than you😁

I rang Specsavers about appointment as I couldn’t find card and couldn’t remember the day or the time. So they said not to worry and ring when I was feeling better. It was for contacts and I still haven’t used them. I don’t know why I didn’t today. I guess I had missed it and she was too polite to say 🥴🤭

Willow thanks for that DD had told me to take magnesium and I had forgotten until you mentioned it. I will try to remember tomorrow as I have to go in for an appointment.

🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞I might have some for breakfast if I am up early. With bacon and maple syrup if I have some. My dad used to make this occasionally when he was home. I also love crepes with lemon and sugar so I might have those instead in the evening.
I am going to get some fish tomorrow while I am in the city for Wednesday as I will be near M&S. We don’t have a fish shop the nearest one is on the industrial estate.

Ta Da
Not many today.
Cleaned shower cubicle.

Made bed

Cleaned chicken out.

Had omelette for tea. And a magnum.

Cherry 🍒 🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒😂😂waves to everyone. Need to go to bed at10:30pm trying to get back into a sleep routine.

Honest to god i am so pissed off. I just cannot find a nappy which doesnt leak in the night. I have nappies various brands and sizes literally coming out of my ears but yet again i have a soggy baby after 5 fucking hours Angry

LaneBoy · 25/02/2020 01:19

I didn’t notice slap DBro upside the head with a PE kit on your ta da list after delivering his present willow and I’m a little disappointed about it. Ouch at that cost though - glad he doesn’t want to do it really as it makes the decision easier. Can he try a different type of medication? I can’t remember if you said it was methylphenidate, but he could possibly try something like Elvanse which works differently, much less comedown and anxiety etc. I may have to try that myself if the MP is the cause of my flare up, but I’m reluctant to switch yet and I’d have to stop nursing Cagletini too (TBH I’m sort of ready anyway but it feels like a lot of stress that I can’t handle at the moment!)

As for this: she's been so even of temperament since we started home schooling, I'd sort of forgotten she wasn't NT, if you see what I mean oh my word, so much yes. Now with DS there is no mistaking his neurodivergence :o but DD appears so NT most of the time and other than sleep she was pretty stable anxiety etc wise. She’s now been in school about 8 weeks and the autism is getting more obvious again - the exhaustion from being around huge groups, sensory issues etc all flaring up.

Not caught up fully yet so sorry to ramble on about that and not join the other topics of conversation!

ta da
✅reminded caglets to do their laundry
✅LOL of our stuff after that (cagletini spilled gravy on me 🙄)
✅got bag ready for ball sports (everyone brings balls 🤣) and checked plan with friend collecting him, plus DSD who is home with him while DH and I both have our courses to do
✅more maths printing - enough for the week now and loads more, but the loads more needs some other types of sheets before I can gather them into weekly workbooks with a decent range of topics in each (I bought a stapler the other day for this reason. Could I find the stapler I KNOW is in the house somewhere, of course not)
✅another long chat with DD, she is subtly seeking a lot of reassurance which is good as she’s talking to me but exhausting as it’s always at bedtime. DSD joined in which was nice
✅laundry away, again other than hanging up stuff
✅my/Cagletini’s clothes sorted for tomorrow
✅spent a ridiculous amount of time writing up therapy session. Remembering heaps of details because I can now focus better 🤦‍♀️🤣 hence it took forevvvvveerrrrrrr

Now I need food and sleep. Up early for ACEs tomorrow. I’ll take my folder down to put it in my bag. More future friending!

Goodnight.

LaneBoy · 25/02/2020 01:44

ta da
✅packed bag
✅found shoes for tomorrow (I live in two pairs of trainers and alternate) - this is quite a big future friend thing for such a small act as I always rush around trying to find where I kicked them off. We should really get a shoe rack or something.
✅amalgamated remains of two different granola bags (crunchy nut on offer in Coop) to make one lovely bag of fruity nutty chocolatey yumminess. Care was taken to put it in the fruit bag as that means DD won’t nick it.
✅checked bus time for tomorrow (8.25 in town so slightly after that here).
✅did small happy dance when realising that tomorrow’s bus times means I can have a Lidl pastry for breakfast

DH is sorting all his own DVDs into one book so they are currently all over the floor. Actually a rather sensible plan (the rest of us use streaming far more so keeping all his yawnfest sci fi together makes sense :o) but now?! He can’t sleep apparently.

Been thinking about making some visual timetables for Cagletini. Like nursery/playgroup photos etc. Anyone do this? We do have a bedtime routine one but have never used it - bedtime is just beyond impossible at the moment and I want to focus on the daytime stuff instead for now.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 25/02/2020 06:53

Zoo your food always sounds amazing. I've been shocking since my maternity leave ended and often serve beige freezer food 🙈

Toostressy I had an adulting fail yesterday. Cancelled an appointment at DS3 school with his his speech therapist as he was on a school trip except his school trip is March 24th not February 24th 🙈🙈 luckily I noticed when checking my diary in the morning so didn't send him in all done up for a trip to the farm but there wasn't enough time to tell speech therapist.

That have you tried putting a nappy on then putting another over the top but backwards?

While I was changing beds yesterday I decided to evict DS4 from his cot in our room and sort his bed in DS3 room. He went to bed like a dream and when I went to check on him they were snuggled up together in his bed 😍. He woke at 10 but DH went up and got him back to sleep straight away. He then woke at 1.30 so DH went back in but he wouldn't let him leave so DH ended up in there with him and I got the bed to myself. I call that a win not sure DH does 😂

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 25/02/2020 06:59

Oh and I just remembered the college thing got worse. I got a text later on asking me to get in touch to explain my absence 😡
I sent an email which I had to write 3 times as the first 2 would have gotten me kicked off the course. The one that actually went was still a bit shitty but I don't care I was raging 😤

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/02/2020 07:46

We3words fail me
Tada
CHOCOLATE PANCAKES WITH PEARS AND HAZELNUTS

LaneBoy · 25/02/2020 07:52

OMG the cheek of them!!! That’s really crap we3 is it an automated message triggered by absence? Well done for emailing.

So very glad I was my future friend. I am so sleepy. Didn’t get to sleep until nearly 3 I think.

Super hungry too so I don’t think waiting until I get to Lidl for breakfast is going to happen.

Bowerbird5 · 25/02/2020 08:38

Went to bed at 10.45 but didn’t sleep until after 12 but woke just before 8so better. About to get up. Going to focus on getting out so I arrive about 15 mins before appointment. So need to leave here at 10 am. I am that person who just does this then sees something else and does that too and often end up rushing at the end and sometimes being late usuallyonly about 5 minutes but trying not to do all those little things. They can wait. I can’t remember who posted it but it was a list of flitting and when I read it I thought hhhmmmm that’s me.

So to do
Get dressed in leggings
Feed animals
Feed me
Get dressed in smarter clothes. It is very muddy at hen so need to let her out and feed and clothes will need to go in wash with yesterday’s.
Go to appointment. Feeling anxious about this.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 25/02/2020 08:46

Bloody hell, We3, I'm amazed we can't see the angry glow from here. They certainly need to adjust their automatic emails if tutors cancelling gets you a rude message. Well done on not firing off a wall of expletives - an emaul would probably not help! How sweet that your boys snuggled up together, and you got the whole bed. Good job there!

Lane, we have a visual timetable for DS3, on the wall in the music/ playroom. His reading is excellent so it's words, not pictures, but it really helps him to know what's coming. It includes what's for lunch and dinner too because he prefers to know in advance, and has calmed things down a lot.

I felt hitting DBro upside the head with PE kit was perhaps a bit much on his birthday, so I contented myself with stealing some slices of birthday cake to bring home for the DC Grin Cake

DD is much better this morning but says she can still feel her blisters squishing about under her foot, which is the tipping point for her. Thank god for homeschool and the opportunity to study in bed, in her pyjamas!

DH and DS2 have gone to the school meeting because DS3 has maths first thing and needs me here in case it all goes wrong. I've sent them with a 6-circle Venn diagram of DS's diagnoses which I hope will help explain to the school what they're dealing with, because I think they're just seeing a bright, lazy, NT-presenting child who's not bothering. DS2 works very hard indeed at masking his difficulties and because he has no ASD, mostly gets away with it in a way the others don't. He said yesterday that he wants to do well, but anything less than 3 As at A-level is failure (I may be repeating myself here, sorry). I honestly don't know if he can pull that out of the hat without breaking himself and us (currently pulling B-D, depending on subject). He is bright enough to do it, but the energy and focus needed to get the info into his head then out again on command may be too much for all of us.

To Dos:
🔳 Usual house stuff - DW, LOL, S&S, set Wendy on the kitchen floor, walk the dog.
🔳 Financial stuff I didn't do yesterday
🔳 Post office
🔳 Print shop
🔳 Final print of this client report
🔳 Speak to GP to get referral to neurodevelopmental paediatrician for DS2. Consider ditto for DS3.
🔳 Pancakes for dinner
🔳 More reading for DS2 ("The Amazing Teenage Brain" - a bit facile but has some useful nuggets)
🔳 More reading for DD / DS3 ("The Out of Sync Child" about SPD).
🔳 Take DS3 swimming? Or push that to tomorrow?
🔳 Collapse in heap.

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/02/2020 09:23

Thank you all for sharing your adulting falls Grin. I have rectified mine today, until I make another one of course.

Ta da:-

Phone call made to query the thing I didn’t do yesterday
Went to post office

Just about to go into Aldi.

Surely that was an automated message We3 but you were of course absolutely justified in sounding annoyed in your email.

Hope appointment goes ok today Bower.

LaneBoy · 25/02/2020 13:28

Tutor’s not there to assess your house zoo would it work to have a rest now then potter around tidying when DS has his lesson?

ACEs course was good but dealing with quite a tricky subject. DH’s counselling was tough and he’s reeling yet numb/spaced out. This afternoon will be challenging 😐

I do have a pastry to eat though - felt super sick after taking my meds late this morning so didn’t have one before the session! At least being at home now I can heat it up (maple pecan slice 😋😋😋)

Tinselette1940 · 25/02/2020 16:21

lane was it you who had frizzy hair around your face (fringe)? Read in Good Housekeeping that someone had frizzy hair around her forehead and ears and her hairdresser said it was from drying her hair with her head tipped forward and therefore drying from underneath. It pushes the cuticles up. Trick is to use a round brush to smooth areas, using a nozzle to control air flow.

Subtractingcalories · 25/02/2020 16:32

Eh up fledglings! Hope everyone ok!

Shouldn't be on here, should be tidying boudoir, but I'm ruddy well going to take 5 mins to check in with you all, as this is the first time I have sat down today. I'm sorry I will miss lots of detail but will try to respond to scrollable ones.. .

Zoo Sorry you are feeling so tired. Funnily enough I didn't sleep until 5am (felt stressed with the house bursting at seams) couldn't relax somehow. We could have messaged each other at 3am Smile. You clean so much every day I am sure it can't be that bad for tutor and they will be focused on the work in hand anyway Flowers Can you get your head down for an hour while tutor is with you? Or at least lie down and look at recipes or magazines or something relaxing ... Flowers

That's so great your ds will have a bolt hole at the wedding where you can both relax!! And fab that your dd2 had such a lovely trip to London. Your dd1 sounds so thoughtful and kind.

Expletive I couldn't agree more about being on top of laundry being the priority chore! Yes, it is lovely to come down to a clean kitchen sink in the morning but frankly if you don't have clean clothes to cover the bod and walk out of the door then nothin' ain't getting done!

That I hope your back and stomach ache has improved

Glad to hear your dd is feeling better today Willow and hope the Venn diagram got the point across and school will give your ds2 appropriate support Flowers Would having a roast on Sunday and easy cold cuts with veg or salad on Monday work for you? We do that now and it does free up time on busy Monday evenings.

Don't answer this if you are not comfortable doing so but where are you again Hazel? Pool warmed by hot springs sounds wonderful!!

Wishing you the very best of luck with your appointment today Bower I hope it was less awful in reality than you anticipated [flower] Also hope you are not snowed in tonight!

Hope your dh is ok Lane and that your nausea doesn't return. Hope you can work out the dosage to optimum level.

We3kings that's awful about your wasted day and having to trudge about in the call - all for want of effective communication - and then to be asked to explain your absence. I hope someone has apologised to you!

Don't worry Toostressy Gosh I'm a one-woman-litter-trail of adulting fails dragging behind me ... .

Had better sign out. I hope you will forgive me a silent scream before I go. ... I still have editing to do and mentioned it to guests. So after a substantial lunch I took them to a gallery where we spent half an hour or so and then dropped them (with their agreement) in middle of town (outside really lovely very unique museum which they were interested in) with instructions (map, integrated pre-paid travel cards, a list of suggestions and Euros) and said "see you later" hoping that I would have a couple of quiet hours at home to get on with tasks necessary before our departure to wreck2 tomorrow.

Anyway, thought I had better get bread on way home but as it is Carnaval vac week, both first and second bakeries were shut, so had to drive to a third. Took me about 20 mins extra time to get home. By the time I got there, I'd just sat down for 5 mins for cup of tea and who was ringing at the door ... all the guests... who said they were cold and hungry [sigh]. Fair enough it is hailing outside but I had left them suggestions for several museums, shops and cinema/antique shop/chocolate factory visit. They had honestly been out for less than an hour Confused.

I have taken my revenge though because when they mentioned pancakes I pointed at my K-Mix and handed them the flour, eggs and milk from fridge and lemons from fruit bowl and said to help themselves...

Oh yes, have also done five loads of washing, some calandering (hot mangle), wrapped two presents, wrote two cards and delivered them, and emptied dw x 1 so far!

Mahoosive but slightly stressed waves to everyone else!

Subtractingcalories · 25/02/2020 16:36

Oh dear, meant to send you more than one flower Bower Flowers

And We3 obviously mind trudging about in the cold not the call!

Confused
Subtractingcalories · 25/02/2020 16:56

Gah again! Meant not mind!!!!!

Lisette how are you now? Are you properly better?

LaneBoy · 25/02/2020 17:38

Thanks tinsel yes that was me! I don’t usually blow dry it but I’ll bear that in mind - I found drying the proper way up seemed to be helpful the other day but I’ll avoid doing it from underneath. But then it’s Frizzfest 2020 until I next wash it anyway.

Did end up feeling sick again because I forgot to take my meds until after I’d eaten (as I didn’t have a drink on me - Future Friend needs to now include rinsing and refilling my water bottle I think!) so I reckon that shows I need to eat after taking them, not before!

DH is in bed. This afternoon has indeed been hard. Cagletini had a relatively short nap so I’m hoping that means she will sleep better. Tomorrow is going to be another tough one but at least it’s just for me not both of us.

Really wanted to have achieved more of the life admin shit that needs doing before my meeting tomorrow (family support worker is seeing me after the parenting course as she works in the same place). But oh well.

ta da
✅made it out the house bright and early after super fast shower - thoroughly grateful for future friend me (that idea has seriously improved life!)
✅ACEs session
✅finished published a blog post that was sitting in my draft folder. Not the most practical use of my time but I had a toddler sleeping on me and my brain was fit for nothing else Hmm

Not sure what’s happening for dinner but I absolutely have to be thorough on my future friend rule tonight. I should probably check the laundry as well.

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/02/2020 17:46

SC i would utterly despair, something would have to give if it were me...

Tonight's dinner
