Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

lane sorry news continues to be so difficult for you
KT are you doing all the good for the party.jope DD read the memo and has enough a nap you get some things done!

Tada
Sorted thru and decided what's not coming back downD's room in progress.he needs HUGE amounts storage for Lego etc.i let the standard bricks crate back in,but all sets upstairs
Two crates stuff upstairs of dd2 to now sort out
Lil zoo stuff has been incorporated upstairs.shes VERY particular what wants and won't tolerate anything she doesn't so has way less belongings to the rest of them

Need sort thru some stuff dumped in my room(only let in a carrier bag of not-sure-where-to-put-it stuff)

Washing machines nearly finished my huge load of whites.love fact drums big enough to take a duvetSmile

Right onwards and upwards-
Dd2 just had the rage as scout poo sprays sometimes when excited.its more like an oil- I'm told is anal glandsEnvyhe was on her lap....she's in shower now.hes lucky she dump him in his basket not out front door into the rain mood she was in...naturally was her favourite pjs..
She's now in shower,D's mine rafting and lil zoo drawing

Think I go pootle in my room for a bit then have some quiet time to myself.mqybe do a word puzzle,or read for a bit and a nice hot shower ❤️

LaneBoy · 19/02/2020 15:35

Aw that’s ok zoo tbh one of the things they’re testing for is potentially treatable so that’s actually a bonus when so many of his issues aren’t. Gives some hope Hmm

Getting nervous for my own appt in 24h! Hoping my usual doctor is nice and agrees to the test I think is necessary Hmm

Bowerbird5 · 19/02/2020 16:31

Willow yes, a fortnight away. He used to be away for three weeks so it isn’t a problem. Books just like adults really. I wouldn’t read what DP reads🤣
KTC that reminds me I had a yoga mat and dvd somewhere🙄 I should get it out.
Zoo 👍 new washing machine. Mega LOL 😂

So anti procrastination day...

Made a list of dates into my diary. GP, counselling( Occ. Health) , Flower Club and Gardening Club dates in. Birthday dates in card box started.
Plus - cleaned out two handbags last night and started on more today. I have done four and one more to go. I didn’t realise I had so many but a) they weren’t expensive ( two brand new from charity shops)
b) I have had some for years and years.

I have a small black daily one. One for church as a pick up and go bag with book and change.a summer one, two Ness bags which I 💕 love. A little one I bought for my niece from a young designer. But she didn’t like it. My sister was going to let her give it to her friend so I asked for it back as it was about £25 years ago. It is really cute black with lime and pink striped handles. I felt a bit awful asking for it and if it had been cheaper it wouldn’t matter. DD used it to go out once or twice. Someone at church paid £450 for a handbag I was 🙀 I know people do but I couldn’t do that. What do others think?

S&S
Made bed.
Swept path and brought bins in.
Cleaned and washed two bags in the kitchen, well scrubbed as they are vinyl. They hang near the door with hats and gloves in. They look pretty as Laura Ashley strawberry fabric.
Cleaned the under sink cupboard. That took a while.
Washed kitchen door down.

Put a LoL on.
Sorted fire.
Vacuumed downstairs.

Right off for a shower to wash my hair. Going to friends for roast dinner and then Flower Club.🤗 Then tomorrow is Gardening Club so I’m taking lamb chops over. Friend has had workmen in as she is getting central heating in.

Last tango in Halifax is back next Sunday. I never used to watch this but one day hadn’t got around to changing it over and discovered it is quite funny. Enjoyed Better Things last night especially as I had that done. The difference being I didn’t have to drink that awful stuff and she had anaesthetic I didn’t 🥴

TooStressyTooMessy · 19/02/2020 17:33

Lane Flowers.

Welcome Sharn Smile

Sorry I never replied Bower, day went ok in the end... ish!

Have been at work today and just on my way home. On bus due to lots of flooded roads which is taking ages but means I get to sit and relax. Things pretty bad with flooding in certain places round here.

When I get home I shall investigate laundry and prep for tomorrow.

Brew for all.

MummySharn · 19/02/2020 18:36

@LaneBoy I hope the tests help you find out what’s wrong with your DH❤️. Not knowing what I’d wrong is awful.

I have hoovered and cleaned up from tea. I will put a wash on tonight but that’s about it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/02/2020 18:57

Well I didn't pootle in my room, nor self-care much.sat recipe sorting then veg out lil zoo and call the midwife on netflix for a bit

Dining tables scrubbed picky tea as hot lunch for littlies-lots stray carrots needed using up and they love carrot sticks!!
Done 5loads now, barely a dent tbh.its got almost silent spin..after the eardrum rattling previous week,I feel positively spoilt!

Bower I grab a resumable carrier bag on way out house.never get round buy me anything more "respectable".I'd not pay more than a tenner in Primark, but that's me and funds stretch in too many directions for luxuries like that.as long my feet are warm and dry and I'm respectfully covered (no huge holes) I tend just crack on.stsrting try make more effort, but at present effort is something not high on priority list.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/02/2020 18:58

stressy hope you guys are all safe from floodingFlowers

TooStressyTooMessy · 19/02/2020 19:01

Thank you zoo, we are fine thankfully but some people locally are struggling and nearby towns evacuated ShockSad.

TooStressyTooMessy · 19/02/2020 19:02

Actually they probably class as villages not towns.

KTCluck · 19/02/2020 19:47

Lane hope the neurologist gets to the bottom of what’s going on. Hope your appointment goes well too.

Zoo sorry you didn’t manage any pootling. I’ll have a bit of help with the food and to be honest I’m keeping it simple - doing some pretty cupcakes and a meat and vegan curry and rice, then the rest will all be shop bought nibbles / pizzas / desserts etc. I’ll be putting most effort into a fancy cocktail Grin.

Bower I spent £££ on a mulberry handbag pre-marriage, years ago when we lived in a tiny terrace and all we had to spend our money on was enjoying ourselves. I can’t believe I did it when I look back and would never ever do it now, nor could we afford to! It did make me happy at the time and I must admit I still absolutely love it. It’s roomy, goes with everything and is still in good condition. Pounds per use it’s probably one of my cheapest. It’s even had the odd outing as a changing bag. The last bag I bought was a huge rucksack for work from sports direct so times have definitely changed Grin

Hope the flooding stays well away from you Too.

No nap was forthcoming, but DD eventually chilled out about 3pm and got engrossed in her toys so managed a ta da list:

✅ upstairs hoovered
✅ dusting finished
✅ thorough cleaning of bedroom / dressing room (paint work wiped, windows and mirrors cleaned, cobwebs zapped, a bit of decluttering, edges of carpet hoovered).
✅ bathroom cleaned and floor mopped
✅ DD’s bedroom tidied
✅ dinner made (roast veg pasta)
✅ soup made, overnight oats prepped
✅ work / nursery stuff sorted
✅ DH has done kitchen and tidied the living room
✅ DD in bed
✅ feet up

LaneBoy · 19/02/2020 21:29

Ooh zoo just catching up and have a couple of questions - 1. Do magic erasers really work? Any tips?

  1. How do you do other stuff on Heggarty if not set tasks by the teacher? DD has it from school but obviously had missed almost 4 terms of work from before she started. Would be good to catch up on it.
ExpletiveDelighted · 19/02/2020 22:08

Evening all,

Lane - I am a big fan of Magic Eraser, it's great for scuff marks on paintwork (door frames etc can easily overdo it on emulsion) also on UPVC, appliances, kitchen cupboards, light limescale on taps etc. Whenever that mission of cleaning your appliances comes up I go round the kitchen with a wedge of it.

Bower - I loved Last Tango in Halifax, so pleased it's coming back. Great scenery, brilliant acting, proper feelgood TV.

Zoo - love the idea of a quiet, duvet-holding WM. Ours is great but not huge capacity, 10 years old and getting very noisy.

My tada list is pathetic today but in my defence I was out 8.30 till 8 again. Work and then taking DD swimming. Again. I am getting a lot of crocheting done during the endless swimming sessions though.

I'm learning lots about older children from those of you who have them. Should be helpful when these two get older if I manage to remember it all.

Hello MummySharn! I'm newish too and finding the thread really helpful and motivating.

We3Kings, DS1 threw up neatly under his pillow once and none of us knew until that night when we put him to bed and found it. He seemed very surprised. I check under his pillow every morning now! He seemed fine that day and even went to preschool, which I felt terrible about in case it was contagious, although it was probably just reflux related.

Soundproof wool, Willow! Grin Don't forget a small patch pocket in front of the mouth area stuffed with acoustic wadding! Fingers crossed for your car repairs to be completed well and quickly too.

What did you get for play food breakfast, KT? DS2 made me strawberry and fried egg sandwiches yesterday. I shall remember that he considers this an appropriate breakfast if ever he is annoyingly hungover! Hope yours was better.

A control wall sounds fantastic, Lane. Clever idea to adapt it to your family's different ways of working and to build it slowly. Hope today's appointment leads to something useful for your husband. Did you see Emma with your mum?

Your veggie meals are very inspiring, Zoo. Congratulations on the new washing machine too! Being vegetarian is a good limiter on handbag spending for me Bowerbird. I'd probably be stuck if I wanted a fancy one, really, as most are leather. Pre-children, when I was more carefree with money, I did look for a really special one in a year that I had several dressing up occasions to attend and bought a very pretty fabric and metal Lulu Guinness one that was in the sale at about a third of the original price and I don't know that I'd spend even that now.

I feel like I have had a busy couple of days but not done much housework. Meals, dishwasher, Swish and Swipe, bed making etc got done both days Yesterday, I also did all the ironing and putting away clothes and household linens for the week plus putting away online food shopping. Walking DS to and from school eats a couple of hours on Tuesdays. Nappy washing, drying and putting away ready to use was done today, plus cleaned downstairs floors but DM was visiting for the day so not much else. Saying that, she brought homemade cake with her and took DS1 for a walk with her dog while DS2 was napping, so I probably should have had the energy and time to do more!

After she went, I cleaned down the backs of the sofas; found hairpins, much Lego and two magnetic pens for Poundland knockoff mini Magnadoodles amongst the fluff and tissues. Thought one pen had been binned with wrapping paper at Christmas!
Went to put nappies away, leaving DC playing nicely with Magnadoodles. Returned a few minutes later to find them playing a car racing game on the television having set up the console and controllers themselves. DS2 even came first, beating his brother and the ten other computer players! May actually get to use thread info on managing teenagers before I forget it!

LaneBoy · 20/02/2020 02:12

Can’t sleep. Thanks for magic eraser feedback expletive do you have to be careful about accidentally taking paint off etc?

ta da
✅LOL in (still needs to go in dryer will do in morning)
✅delegated a bit of tidying to caglets - rubbish out, putting washing up away etc
✅opened windows to air the house a bit
✅shower/blow dried hair
✅got some needed bits in town - skin/hair care stuff to try and make an effort, French dictionary for DD etc

The film Emma is absolutely perfect. Loved it (especially Mr Knightley 😇) SO much. And the bubble tea we had while watching 😋

Beyond shattered now, again. Cagletini’s sleep/feeding still messed up again from when she was sick 😒🤬

So I know I need to get out more when I take excited photos of a sparkling oven...
Decided try pink stuff and elbow grease scrub sponge to see what all the fuss was about.results speak for themselves with no harsh chemicals involved...

Tada
Cats fed
Harpic lav
Wash on
Empty fridge
Wipe out
Return everything(since buying my fridge boxes it's much easier to see what's in there and easier to clean/zero waste❤️)
Clean oven,incl manky glass door
Wipe down front oven, incl all dials
Clean hob
Sweep kitchen floor

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/02/2020 07:23

Lane - yes, you need to be very careful on walls with the magic eraser, it will take off emulsion paint, but gloss type paints are fine. So I use it on doors, doorframes, skirting boards etc. Our hall is tiny and when the DCs were younger we had to keep the pram in the dining room, it had big tyres and we got black scuff marks on the door frame where you turn in from the hall, magic eraser was the only thing that shifted them. Also be careful with markings around knobs on hobs etc.

Ooh ok that’s great thanks. I’ll pop into Wilko later. Would be especially good on our doors I think which are gross around the handle areas after living here since July 2018 😳 definitely one of those tasks we should do regularly as a quick thing rather than ending up taking ages because it’s built up. Maybe I should write that on our control wall - even once a month would be far better than nothing.

Said control wall isn’t up yet BTW. Need blutak today.

Zoo what is this pink stuff of which you speak? Oven looks amazing!

foxessocks · 20/02/2020 08:20

lane did you see the new Emma? I'm going to see that this week, looking forward to it

Zoo I have oven envy!! I have some pink stuff, haven't used it for ages I forgot about it!

Got to start work soon, dc at my parents so I'm uninterrupted today.

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/02/2020 08:21

I keep forgetting to say, we have a control wall too, although we don't use it so much now as so much is online (school letters, calendar). Its in our hall. We have a low row of coat hooks at waist height for DCs coats, bags etc. Then above that we have a calendar, plus 4 small magnetic whiteboards (one each). The whiteboards each have a sturdy magnetic clip and things like school letters go in the clips.
