February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

ta da
✅read my ACEs session notes so I AM DONE WOOOOOO!!!
✅put both course folders in a drawer where they can be forgotten for the next week :)
✅wrote my poem out by hand ready for Monday

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/02/2020 18:09

willow fair point.ds liked private peaceful.lil zoo read year 6 and liked it,but understand might not be everyone's cup of tea.ds wasn't up for boy in striped pjs but lil zoo loved it.that said we now think there's some ASD issues as she doesn't have empathy nor ever get upset/stirred by sad films/books...

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 18/02/2020 19:55

I don't think that's harsh zoo the consequences match the actions. Broken something = pay for it. Misuse of phone = no phone. Didn't do as you asked today = doesn't do as she pleases tomorrow.

This mornings to do's
✔️ S&S
✔️ ironing
✔️ LOL

Everyone dropped off at my DGM before I headed to work.

Had a manic day at work. Our accounts lad was sacked for stealing £3500 from the company account last week so I had to do his work, manager off so had to cover her stuff while also doing my own work. Then the servers went down 🤦‍♀️

Also had to go to Morrison's for the big shop after work as for some reason my online shop would not go through last night 🤷‍♀️

Now making lunches for DC to take to childminder tomorrow. Planning on having a cream cake and a bag of Doritos for dinner as I can not be bothered to cook at all.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 18/02/2020 20:59

zoo, I agree with We3 - the punishment is the natural consequence of her actions. Perhaps she'll think next time.

See your point about Michael Morpurgo - my DD liked him but she is my empathy-free ASD. DS2 has so much empathy he used to cry when other people missed the train because he imagined how bad they would feel.

Lane, Adopt A Book is a conservation scheme run by the British Library. You, or someone else, pays a sum of money to adopt a title of your choice and the money is (supposedly) used to preserve that title. For my 40th birthday, Mum and Dad adopted a copy of Little Women for me, because I adored it growing up. I suspect it's like Adopt A Tiger and it's nowhere near as targeted to the actual book as they like to make out, but I have a pretty certificate and a nice warm glow.

Right. Ta das
✓ pictures hung
✓ bed put back into place and remade
✓ 2 more LOL
✓ our room hoovered
✓ DS3 washed and in bed
✓ everyone fed, nobody dead!

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/02/2020 23:03

Evening all,

Let's start with a tada!

Got DD to hoover and empty DW
Dusted boudoir
Hotspotted various places
2 x LOL
Re-potted plant that had outgrown its pot and left it outside to get dusted by the rain (successful, glad I didn't put the washing on the line today).
A couple of phone calls
Dr appointment
Took DD swimming.

Welcome to Sharn - just ask if we seem to be talking in a strange acronyms, Flylady gets to you like that. LOL = load of laundry for eg.

Michael Morpurgo - my DS liked him too and also has ASD.

Well, I'm not doing very well on the early nights so I will return in a minute with some links and bid you all good night.

Wednesday.

Launchpad

Mission = clear out old make-up
Wednesday's daily focus is anti-procrastination

Don't forget that February's habit of the month is declutter for 15 mins a day.

LaneBoy · 18/02/2020 23:37

I think all that clothes sorting the other day is several days’ worth of 15 mins 😳 also I don’t think I mentioned I then discovered a smaller bag of outgrown clothes DD1 had sorted months ago 😳😳😳 it must have been lurking somewhere after her (smaller) bestie had gone through and picked what she wanted. So that can be added to the rest of the donate pile, and I’ll use that bag to stash DS’ outgrown stuff for my friend’s boy... as it’s currently all over the bedroom floor 🤦‍♀️

Cool about the adopting a book willow and I agree with everyone that you weren’t too harsh zoo

It’s been another epically shit day. I fear I won’t be saying different for a while.🙄🙄🙄 I do feel like I could get on with some phone calls tomorrow though so I’ll try and do those before mum gets here.

ta da
✅very brief nap
✅remembered to ask mum for a French dictionary
✅made some notes for upcoming meetings

Bowerbird5 · 19/02/2020 02:09

Welcome Sharn💐

EDThat is a poor excuse for a stash.
Zooyou weren’t too harsh. She has been warned before. Keep strong. DD apologised in her twenties for the huge bill she run up NOT Talking to her friends on the house phone. They detach. I was surprised her head didn’t when DH found out. He would have been harsher if the boys had done it.
That what about Wimpy Kid, Anthony Horowitz is great. There was a guided reading short stories book that was excellent. I read every one with Yr 5or 6 and we had lots of discussion. We worked on empathy as a lot of our kids didn’t get it and if it was in SAT English they lost points. The years that the teacher and I did extra including that book the scores went up.👍
Lane great list.
Willow some good choices. Some I don’t know. My Yr6’s enjoyed Michael Murpurgo. I bought them a boxed set for Christmas. It was greatly appreciated. Not everyone one liked him though.
We3 that is awful. Hope you have an easier day today.
Hazel the flood under the bridge has gone and so has the car. It started snowing this afternoon. I shut the hen in at 5pm. I got caught in a hail storm in town before that.

So today has been...interesting.
DH has gone to work. Yes, I did say work. Gone for two weeks.

TA DAs
Clean the top of the wardrobes. Yuk. It was so dusty it made me cough. With the new Dyson 7 I can vacuum the dust off by vacuuming the top. DH had to help as I am too short on the second bigger wardrobe ( his)
Feather dusted the hat boxes. Had to go downstairs and shake it outside.

Put away all my trousers and jeans after DH finally mended the drawer.
Put away some laundry but haven’t room for the rest.
Cleaned kitchen.
Vacuumed sitting room.
Took all the stuff off the top of fridge and stuff on magnets. To continue. Look in at the Range for a larger basket to keep meds in. Nope. It need to be shallow. Swapped some pics around in kitchen.
Washed up twice
Took DH to the station.
Fed cat x3
Fed me - salmon, fried new potatoes, carrot and salad.
Watched programme about Coast to Coast walk.
Watched programme about child murderers.😳🤭

Went to bed late. Builder ill and told joiner to give me notice if coming. 😉
Can sleep in tomorrow.

Bowerbird5 · 19/02/2020 02:10

Waves to anyone one I missed 🍒 waves.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/02/2020 04:51

And I can't sleep fretting about getting everything tidy and moved for new wash machine.been awake over an hour, minds racing so will give up and get things done.maybe add a nap later!

Mission-make up,what is this?
And anti procrastinate- I can deal with that tomorrowGrin

THAT90sBITCH · 19/02/2020 06:20

Ooo new washing machine. I want one! Mine is getting on a bit now. We are lucky we have an appliance fixing relative who will do free repairs as long as we get parts. Its been fixed sooooo many times.

I think punishment was fair enough zoo

Ty for continued book suggestions. Plan is to see what weather like today and possibly brave library

Welcome sharn and anyone else new i missed

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 19/02/2020 07:20

Hope the new machine is super shiny and efficient, zoo, and you can rest later. Lane I'm so sorry things are hard. Is there anything we can do to distract / help you plan / pace? Flowers.

That, Expletive, Bower, zoo I think what we're all proving is that different children like different books! [Shock] Hope the library is useful, That. Totally agree that empathy / deeper comprehension is something that children need to be taught, not assume it's innate.

We3 that sounds like a work nightmare! Hope today is quieter. Stressy, KT, Chic, Sharn, hope you are all surviving enjoying Family Fun this half term.

Bower, great to hear the water's receding, is DH away for 2 solid weeks, or returning nightly? Don't like the sound of snow in top of flooding - hope you are warm and safe.

Yesterday, my car failed it's MOT spectacularly. Two brake callipers, on orthoginal corners have seized and taken the brake pads and discs with them. £££ to fix, but still cheaper than replacing the car, so needs must etc. I can still think of many more interesting things to spend the money on, though ☹️.

To Dos
🔳 LOL
🔳 DW
🔳 S&S
🔳 washed, dressed, meds, breakfast etc
🔳 Dog walk
🔳 Bedroom missions and polish surfaces
🔳 Wake DS2 properly at 9 and send him to the gym (this may need to involve a cold wet flannel)
🔳 Send DH off to work
🔳 DS3 has another friend coming and I get to have coffee with his mum. Shorter duration today, though!
🔳 Bang bang chicken noodles for tea, must bone the chicken thighs.

Right, onwards and upwards.

foxessocks · 19/02/2020 07:21

Enjoy your new washing machine zoo! Hope it goes smoothly!

KTCluck · 19/02/2020 08:42

Ooh you’ve all been busy bees!

Welcome to the thread Sharn.

Lovely to hear from you SC. Hope the visit goes ok. Sorry things are so hectic but it sounds like you a being a trouper as always

Lane fingers crossed for a better day for you today.

Willow hope the car is fixed quickly and cheaply.

Zoo hoping for smooth delivery of the WM and that you get your nap. I’m also hoping for one later - DD woke me up at 3:30 to tell me all about the party we went to on Saturday. Then 4am to ask if it was morning. 5am to lift her on to the toilet (she had a pull up on and can climb up herself no problem, usually I’m not allowed to help Hmm) I gave up at 5:45 when she sat on me to ‘feed me breakfast’. I didn’t take a leaf out of your book and do anything productive though. Just felt grumpy Grin

Ta Das:
LOL in
Beds made
DD’s play food ‘breakfast’ back in her room
Cats and humans fed
Managed 20 minute yoga video. Burnt extra calories repeatedly removing DD from my mat.

It’s 6 weeks until my girls weekend away and I am nowhere near fitting into my holiday clothes. I really need to stop eating crap and start doing some sort of exercise daily. I run occasionally but that won’t get rid of my mum tum, and I hate the gym. How do the rest of you with little ones manage to fit any exercise in with them under your feet? Or do you just accept you can’t embrace the excuse?

To Do:
Dishes
Hoover and dust upstairs
Clean bathroom
15 mins in boudoir
I’ll look through my make up but don’t think I’ve got much to get rid of - I was pretty ruthless a while ago
Order a gift
Top up shop

DD wants to go to the beach. That will be cold and windy!

Wing flaps to you all, happy flying!

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/02/2020 09:44

That hope library trips good
Willow sorry cars costing so muchFlowers
Lane fingers X today's better

It's coming in 5mins ....

LaneBoy · 19/02/2020 10:16

Thanks lovelies. Today should be distracting at least, and get me out the house - mum visiting, we will go into town later with the Caglets most likely, and then mum and I are going to see Emma.

I need to buy some jeans and a couple of other things for me, and a French dictionary for DD1.

Totally forgot about the phone calls, trying to tidy up a bit and delegate to two very reluctant children 🙄 DH is out at a neurology appt.

LaneBoy · 19/02/2020 10:18

This post really made me laugh this morning. I’m assuming the original post was asking medical advice for their kids. :o

Happy washing machine day zoo!
Must get moving.

LaneBoy · 19/02/2020 10:19

Oh. Screenshot would help.

We’re going to soft play today (wish me luck).

You’ve been waaay more productive than me Zoo. Pat on the back for you.

Love that post Lane

DD is full of cold and being very clingy and grumpy today so I’m struggling to get much done at all (although cuddles on the sofa with the blanket and Disney is preferable anyway!). She seems to be like this every Wednesday at the minute - I’m assuming it’s because she’s at nursery the other 4 week days, so she wants my attention constantly and is probably shattered / overwhelmed maybe? I’m trying to get the little bits i need done in little bursts rather than a chunk first thing which is what I prefer, so that she still gets plenty of attention.

She was determined to get out on her bike earlier despite her cold, so we wrapped up and headed out for an hour this morning. Thankfully we swerved the beach although the park is right on the sea front too so still pretty exposed!

Ta Da:
✅ Washing in dryer, next LOL in
✅ Upstairs half dusted
✅ Clean laundry put away
✅ Gift ordered
✅ Various toys picked up
✅ lunch eaten

Still need to finish the dusting, hoover, clean the bathroom and spend a bit of time in the boudoir. I’m not sure DD is on board with this plan, fingers crossed she dozes off!

Really need to get upstairs sorted today as I’m working tomorrow and Friday, and then we are having a family party for my step-dad’s birthday so will need to gut downstairs and sort the buffet on Saturday.

LaneBoy · 19/02/2020 13:23

DH back from the neurologist. Apparently he’s medically very interesting indeed 🤨🤨🤨 more tests, more meds

Managed to clean myself up a bit and do a bit of tidying, just making a plan for the rest of the day. DS skipping taekwondo later as his cough is awful.
