February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Ah crap. Therapist had to cancel due to illness. 🤦‍♀️

Cagletini back to nursery today (missed the whole week), I’ve said to DH we ARE sorting the clothes today 😅 And I’ll try and do all my course write ups/homework

Must get Cagletini ready for nursery now

KTCluck · 10/02/2020 09:07

Right, I’m checking in to motivate myself. DD has been deposited at nursery. DH is still in bed recovering from his weekend (but will be treating me to lunch although he doesn’t know it yet Wink). I’ve had a leisurely breakfast and now need to get a move on.

What a pain about the appointment Lane

Ta Da:
✅ LOL
✅ living room tidied

To Do:
Grocery shopping
Tidy larder while putting food away
Clean fridge
Downstairs dusting, hoovering, floors cleaned
15 mins deeper clean in kitchen
“ “ dining room
Clean bathroom
Thorough clean of shower screen
Wipe utility bench
45 mins ironing
Declutter under bed
Declutter landing drawers
Sort paperwork and do some shredding.

I’m setting my timer and I’m going...

Bowerbird5 · 10/02/2020 10:29

Damn Lane that is annoying. Do something nice for yourself while Cagletini is at nursery.

KTC that is a good list. I’m going for power of three today.

Put washing away.
LoL
Post letter. I should have done this last week, damn.

No workmen yesterday so I had another cup of tea while I procrastinate.

River has burst its banks yesterday. Two other rivers nearby have two so it means city is on alert for evacuating a whole area. My tutor sold her house for a knock down price and it was in the paper for sale all refurbished. It has just flooded again. Up to the downstairs window. She will be glad not to be sorting that out yet again. Last time it reached upstairs and I think her husband was rescued by boat.
Judging by the parents dropping off for school the normal road out is flooded under the bridge again. The other must be passable. Might have a walk down if it stops raining. Keep safe everyone.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 10/02/2020 10:56

Wow, We3, that's an epic list! Can I hire you to come to mine? Grin

Lane, sorry about your appointment - can you use the time to rest / plan/ do something for you to give you space?

KT good list, enjoy your lunch with unsuspecting DH!

Bower stay safe! It sounds very wet indeed where you are. We are 500 feet above sea level and in no danger of serious flooding except if when the drains get overwhelmed and it all runs downhill into our garage! It's been very windy here, though, and there are bits of tree everywhere. DM says her immediate neighbour has lost his back fence, gate and TV aerial.

I'm having trouble getting going today - possibly because it was my turn to be sick unexpectedly last night - so I'm in the bath, resetting the day. My excuse is I was frozen after the dog walk!

Ta Das (yesterday)
✓ put bedding away under DS2's bed
✓ got DS2 to tidy and clean his room!
✓ cheerful afternoon on the sofa solving a family history conundrum
✓ roast dinner
✓ DS2 got his washing done

Ta Das today
✓ dog walk
✓ LOL on
✓ Ds2's second wash dried
✓ kitchen wiped, including hob (DH makes lovely gravy, but it goes everywhere.
✓ DW rotated
✓ dinner out of the freezer
✓ stripped our bed

To dos after my bath
🔳 Dressed to shoes, hair and face
🔳 2 x LOL including our bedlinen
🔳 Up to town to Post Office and Dyas
🔳 Chase up DD's Kung Fu taster
🔳 Get big printing done a print shop and put it in the post.

Big wing flaps all round.

HungryHazelEyes · 10/02/2020 13:24

Stopping in to say I have been thinking about you all back home and the massive storm that came in. In the village I'm from the power went out, trees blown down. I'm not sure if my mum dared go out as she has been unwell lately anyway. Must message her! Flooding is awful to deal with. bower I'm sure your friend is very relieved to not have to do clean up on her old house ever again.

HungryHazelEyes · 10/02/2020 13:28

KT great list, look at you sticking to fly lady - well done!
Willow feel better soon, take it easy today.
Zoo love the saying and that message board!

LaneBoy · 10/02/2020 13:32

ta da
✅got Cagletini ready for nursery
✅shower
✅helped DS with geography
✅found picture for inspiration to draw with
✅made it to chess club
✅bit of art (charcoal is hard to draw with!!!)
✅bought mushrooms as DH forgot
✅saw my old HV at the children’s centre and sorted out someone phoning me with details of a new one as I never got one once we moved
✅bumped into support worker, was honest and said things are shit yay me!!!
✅made plans for a meeting with her after a particular course session (tricky subject)
✅texted course leader to try and find out which week said tricky subject is being covered

Now curled up on sofa after I got really dizzy again, need to try and make soup shortly as I promised DD1

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/02/2020 14:31

Glad you spoke to support worker Lane.

Ta da:-
1 hour decluttering/ tidying
Sorted out house admin stuff
Prepped tea (needs to be as simple as poss as trying not to cook too much since kitchen painted yesterday and still needs second coat in places.

To do:-
Pick kids up

It is either hailing / sleeting or snowing here! According to weather reports it is snow but it was raining heavily earlier so not lying much.

In theory I love snow. In practice it is that horrible very wet, heavy snow and I am not looking forward to school run. Need to decide whether to take DD1 to her activity later. I think she will want to go (had to miss it last week as poorly). I think is she suggests not going though I won’t argue with her as really don’t fancy it!

Catch you all later.

Even in the tone I have written this it has changed to thick snowflakes Shock.

LaneBoy · 10/02/2020 14:43

Thanks stressy eeeek at snow! It’s lovely and mild here, you’d never know it had been torrential yesterday.

Just sitting in kitchen while the soup cooks. Really dizzy again... took the higher dose of ADHD meds again (by mistake, I’m meant to be lowering it) and boom, the dizziness increased again. Gutted.

Meeting with FSW seems to be booked for the week after half term so that gives us a couple of weeks to try and finish a few bits we were meant to. I hate the thought of getting in there and saying how little progress we’ve made (even though the whole point is that I’m saying how difficult it is to get anything done!)

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 10/02/2020 15:16

Will come back with today's list later but had to quickly share this...

February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here
Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2020 15:51

we3Grintotally relate to that!btw I looked in aldi no journals but there's another one not far away so may have to try there too

Lane hope the dizzy spell passes, what type soup are you making?

Bower hope you are safe.ditto hazelsparents

Stressy we had few thick flakes, but back to lasing rain.bloody freezing wind.was mild yesterday...

Camhs for dd2 was CRAPOLA.basically lay responsibility with school despite admitting it's affecting sleep, socialising and eating.if we give up school counsellor and go to local one they "approve" and on (long) wait list anxiety group we do together(which will potentially mean need find minder for D's)
I query what if she gets worse as round two mocks start- ring and speak to clinician.she asked DD privately if self harmed or had suicidal thoughts.sad that it seems services can only stretch to children that desperate...
Pop Primark as I needed new pants,as did dd2 whilst in town.spent £50 as I saw three reduced tops some very snaffly navy Sherpa fleece blankies reduced (got 4 so no fighting over them)a shirt I liked was on sale,dd2 needed another trackie bottoms and I saw pjs I liked..ooophs!
Picked up something to tempt her to eat lunch
Load washing done
Cleaned bathroom
Wiped kitchen surfaces
Hoover stairs,hall and landing
Took D's for vaccines
He's now sat eat chocolate coins(last week's trip to town saw them reduced 10p a net in wilko and they're his favourite!)was scared silly and worried he will feel odd,and his arms stinging.hopefully he will settle down later!!

Tired now.yiens an hour walk away, doctors 45 mins so lots walking done.very cold too and keep sneezing.i don't have time this week to be miserable with a cold...

THAT90sBITCH · 10/02/2020 16:24

We also had little sprinkling of snow before it turned to rain, thankfully post school run. Bitterly cold. Forecast says snow rest of today, tonight, tomorrow but who knows

dayowl · 10/02/2020 16:26

Hello can I join? My house is always a tip and I need to get on top of it

LaneBoy · 10/02/2020 16:44

Welcome owl!

Leek and potato zoo :) turned out ok. DH helped with some of the prep as my hands are sore.

So tired. Dizziness not gone away. Anxiety ramping up as well Hmm even though I’ve sorted what I need to via text/email so I don’t have anything to worry about really. Course leader even offered to go through the tricky week content with me this Wednesday so it’s not all new. How nice is that?! This is a different course/leader to the one who was so bloody lovely last week when I was unwell. I’m very lucky to be learning with two lots of lovely people! ❤️

I have loads of course prep to do for the next two days but I’m tempted to nap instead.

THAT90sBITCH · 10/02/2020 17:22

Since my last post we have had more rain, snow, hail and thunder & lightening. Now nothing. Strange weather

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/02/2020 18:07

Those course leaders sound lovely Lane.

Welcome dayowl Smile.

We didn’t go to DD1’s activity. Feel guilty for not pushing to go as actually the roads would have been ok on the way there but I think it will freeze again so maybe not so pleasant on the way back. We got back from school with feet like blocks of ice and freezing cold hands. Coats etc soaking wet. None of us could face having to go out again tbh.

DD2 has done some homework, DD1 has planned what reading she will do before bed. They are having some screen time so I am going to do a quick tidy up.

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/02/2020 18:08

So sorry CAMHS appointment was rubbish zoo.

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/02/2020 18:09

That is very true We3kings Grin.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 10/02/2020 18:58

We3, how did you find my life on the interweb? [Grin]

Zoo, sorry CAMHS were rubbish.

That, we had the exact reverse weather - lighting, thunder, hail the snow! Nothing now, but it was bloody freezing walking DS3 to his new Kung Fu class. Crossing my fingers this could be the sport for him. DD is going to the adult class later, so I shall have to go out again 🥶.

Not much achieved this afternoon.
✓ LOL x 3
✓ DW run
✓ huge print done for client
✓ homework with DS3
✓ quick Tesco trip with DD to buy joggers for this eve.
✓ 45 min nap (ahem).
✓ dried out DD's Latin teacher, who walked here in the rain and was dripping.

Lisette1940 · 10/02/2020 19:06

Yes we3kings! I find it so difficult to keep on message when cleaning!

Very tired after first day back at work. Off tomorrow so going to rest.

dayowl · 10/02/2020 19:20

Thank you for the welcomes!

I’m sorry you aren’t feeling good lane, I get like that, even when everything is out of my head it still feels full and I stress. It helps me to write everything down and cross it off as I’m more visual.

that the weather here is awful. Our front door leads straight into our living room and it caused our door going into the stairs to slam all night.

Lisette1940 · 10/02/2020 19:22

Hi Dayowl welcome. Love the user name.

HungryHazelEyes · 10/02/2020 19:35

DH went to the doctor (he hates them, doesn't like going at all but he willingly took himself there today!) He has Influenza B Sad so really nothing they can do for him. I told him I don't want it - tempted to make him sleep in the garage lol! I won't really, but I don't want it. So I plan to keep disinfecting the house until he's over it. I'll start again tonight once I'm home from work.

HungryHazelEyes · 10/02/2020 19:37

Welcome owl let us know if you have any questions.

We3 I love it! That's how I seem to work, although trying not to retrace steps anymore and it seems to be working so far.

KTCluck · 10/02/2020 19:40

I love that We3. It’s as if someone has been spying on me Grin

Welcome owl. Flylady / the thread have definitely helped me get on top of things.

Sorry the appointment was no help Zoo. Must be so frustrating when you’re trying so hard and not getting anywhere.

Well done for being honest to your support worker Lane. It’s good that you have two supportive course leaders as well.

Hope it was just a one off bout of sickness Willow. Sounds like you’ve get a fair bit done today anyway.

I don’t blame you for not going to the activity Too.

I didn’t quite achieve everything on my plan this morning but did do a few additional things and I’m pretty pleased with the progress.

✅ grocery shopping done
✅ larder emptied, cleaned and re-organised
✅ freezer reorganised and inventory made (it’s a chest freezer and it’s packed)
✅ Couple of kitchen cupboards cleaned out and reorganised
✅ utility room decluttered, bench, window, doors, washer and dryer all cleaned. Floor hoovered and mopped.
✅ kitchen cupboards and benches wiped down
✅ window and sill cleaned
✅ hob cleaned
✅ sink super-shined, tap scrubbed, plug hole unblocker deposited
✅ floor hoovered and mopped
✅ dining table and chairs wiped
✅ dining room patio doors cleaned
✅ thorough floor hoover / clean (ie chairs moved, I normally just do around them Blush)
✅ pulled out sideboard and cleaned under / behind
✅ glue gunned the tiny hooks back into curtain rings so they stop falling out when DD plays hide and seek behind them Hmm
✅ wiped down mirror, skirting boards, door and switches in kitchen and dining room
✅ living room dusted, hoovered and floor mopped. Window and tv cleaned.
✅ tidied hallway
✅ carried numerous armfuls of stuff upstairs
✅ clean clothes away

Was going to tackle the ironing and bathroom but DH insisted that I sit down and have a cuppa with him and watch some crap
TV, as we are never off together with DD at nursery. I ended up just wanting something small for lunch so he got away with just making me beans on toast instead of treating me to lunch out.

I picked up DD a little early and we’ve had a nice few hours playing. She’s just gone to sleep and DH is making shepherds pie. Yum.

Weather wise it’s actually been a gorgeous sunny day here. Very cold and windy, and unusually high tide but the sea has been really calm and I was disappointed with the lack of spectacular waves that we can often see when it’s stormy. Seems like we have escaped the worst of it on the north east coast.
