February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Glad you all mentioned the storm I had forgotten. Have now checked that the trampoline is tied down properly.

Last few
✔️ shopping away
✔️ dinner
✔️ dishes
✔️ ironing
✔️ patient put to bed. He's had some ice cream which seems to have perked him up a bit.
✔️ make up washed off properly and moisturised. Pj's on

Am now on the sofa with my blanket and I'm going to watch the rest of the pharmacist because I fell asleep last night

LaneBoy · 08/02/2020 19:43

Everyone fed no one dead is a popular achievement here! Most days lately it’s all I can hope for (and even then DH often did the cooking!)

ta da
✅laundry moved on, DD has now put her uniform in
✅helped DD with homework, there were tears, I need to speak to senco about the small group which was promised, but DD is panicking about it so I need to ask various questions on her behalf... aaaaaargh

Oh well at least that let me avoid an almighty tantrum from Cagletini as DH dealt with that.

Jeez what a week it’s been.

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2020 19:49

Hope you are feeling comfortable that. Yes, it's windy and rainy here. Nice and cosy in our house.

Puts hot chocolate, marshmallows and Turkish delight out for fledglings in naughty corner. Directs Ned to ironing pile.

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2020 19:52

Grin I love hearing about Cagletini. She's very much herself.

LaneBoy · 08/02/2020 20:11

Something like that :o

Here she is being herself on the bus and with daddy’s glasses.

Loving the masked singer tonight. Finally I guessed one right! :o

I’m going to write a quick list to prep myself for emailing senco. Sigh. It just feels like yet another Thing To Do.

lane she's so gorgeous ❤️
"D"p decided was too tired to pick up his meds yesterday and he's now 24hrs without ADs.irritable AF and CBA to come tom now as "it will be too much having to go out in the rain and shop" and let's not talk about fact he told dd2 would sort her a phone
She's now freaking out and guess who on recieving end of that....

Plus I now stuck going shopping tom in a storm on foot.bloody marvellous!what it is to be in a position of fING choice not to do stuffAngry

Tinselette1940 · 08/02/2020 20:49

Lane she's just gorgeous. I particularly like her newsreader look on the left.

Zoo I'm ruddy well annoyed for you. He's not helping himself or anyone else. If out tomorrow take care with the wind.

LaneBoy · 08/02/2020 20:53

Ha, 2 for 2 on the masked singer today.

Cagletini only had one pair of Clark’s too. Current pair were less than a tenner in the Next sale. They grow so quickly.

I do journaling we3 although for me that is basically writing endless crap in a notebook in order to get it out of the mess that is my brain! I do have a sort of structure though - at the end of each entry I write one thing I’m proud of that day and one thing I’m thankful for that day. This year I’ve also added one thing that made me laugh, but I must admit I’m usually scrabbling around for that one lately - life isn’t much fun ATM Hmm

Realised I need to get DD’s school shirt washed but wait... it’s only Saturday so that can be left for tomorrow actually. Phew. She’s having some quiet time on her phone for now after the full on maths meltdown earlier. What a mess. I sadly wasn’t wrong when I was quietly dreading the fact I’d need to still HE DS in the daytime AND support all the school stuff in the evening... it’s hard. I’m knackered. I just hope the school comes through and does this group, in a way she can handle (she’s getting anxious about being taken out of class etc which is what caused more tears)

She’s got to start her melatonin break today too. So that’s two weeks of no sleep. Marvellous.

Sorry to put a downer on the thread! I’m feeling a bit snowed under. Hmm

Going to start watching Stranger Things with her though, that’ll give us something nice to do together hopefully.

LaneBoy · 08/02/2020 21:05

Jeeeeez zoo he’s really not helping himself there is he let alone anyone else. FFS. He’d happily see you out in a potentially dangerous storm?! Twat. What is it with useless manshapes lately?

We are on amber alert here in Sussex. I don’t know much about it, I hope I can get to therapy on Monday though!

DH has gone to bed for a bit now (no complaints there as I had ages in bed myself earlier).

Should I be concerned at how much Netflix is on, given that Cagletini (2y3m) exited out of Ben and Holly and put it on Baconface by remembering how to use the PS4 controller Hmm:o modern toddlers Blush I hate how much screen time she has ATM. She didn’t leave the house in a week what with the sickness and then us not being well enough. Oops.

Needless to say my plan of putting the laundry pile away didn’t happen. I think it may have got so high it’ll have snow on top soon.

Tinselette1940 · 08/02/2020 23:49

She'll survive the screen time Lane. Ds has had a lot of screen time recently not to mention the odd cereal dinner. Life returns to what passes for normal soon enough.

LaneBoy · 09/02/2020 00:11

Ha. I hope so. Not really sure our normal is going to be much use really 😅

Ugh sorry. Morbid ATM! Gearing up to the next time I see our support worker when I will attempt to be brave enough to say actually things are really quite shit and I need a chat.

I did just watch the first episode of Stranger Things with DD1 though, that was really nice as she rarely watches anything other than YouTube these days (plus masked singer). Going to aim for an episode a night :)

HungryHazelEyes · 09/02/2020 03:24

Been AWOL for a bit, busy here with work. I'm not sure I can keep up with everyone so I'm very, very sorry as I know I'll miss people, it's not intentional, I promise!

That I hope you're feeling better soon.
zoo I wish I could slap your "d" h upside the head, he really needs a reality check that he's not the only one in the world! It's made me mad to think he doesn't have to do anything because he knows you'll figure out a way to get stuff done regardless because of the strong, independent woman you are. He just doesn't realise that sometimes it's nice to not have to figure everything out and have some help too make life easier.
lane Cagletini is so adorable! I love her curls and her cheekbones! Hope you feel better soon too.

I know I missed others, I'm sorry. I'll try to go back here in the minute.

DH is sick.. still. He thinks he's sick from before Christmas, not got over it yet. He has a high fever, chills, body aches, sore throat, classic flu symptoms. I told him to bundle up, made him some chicken soup. He just farted- I told him it sounded wet (sorry for tmi!) He said it was all the sweat and that it's all my fault for telling him to bundle up and sweat it out liked my mum always told me to do. Made us all laugh so hard!

Dishes done, a little behind on laundry though. I'm hoping to get into a new routine with working 4x10's now, it just might take some time. A couple days ago I took a bag full to the 2nd hand shop, mostly DDs clothes and I've sorted the hot spots for right now. It's always seeming to be never ending!

LaneBoy · 09/02/2020 08:12

And now it’s DD1’s turn to start puking. FFS. It’s 8 days since Cagletini got sick. Never had a bug with this long a gap before! I was just starting to relax and think the rest of us had got away with it. Poor kid.

Hi hazel :) nice to see you back :) gosh that’s a long time for DH to be unwell. :o at the sweat excuse though.

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 08:18

zoo if your weather is bad please stay at home Sad he is properly useless but you dont need me to tell you that. The only things we dont have in is stuff for manchilds lunch tomorrow but he can sort that himself.

hazel i had flu for weeks before christmas it was awful so sympathies to your dh and fingers crossed you dont catch it

lane cagletini looks fun Grin i think its a good idea to let support worker know you are struggling

Re Clarks shoes i bought one of their measuring things (about £10) and i measure dc3 and 4s feet at home and order online when on sale. They both had school shoes in January from Clarks online (£16 dd and £14 ds)

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 09/02/2020 08:39

Lane, I'm so sorry things are rubbish at the moment. I know exactly what you mean about trying to homeschool some in the day, then support conventional schooling in the evening. It never ends. Please try to be honest with your FSW and let them help; if you go under, it really will all fall over. Hope poor DD1 stopped puking. Cagletini is beautiful, though, and a proper character from those photos!

Hazel, sorry your DH is ill, that's long time to be under the weather. 4x10 sounds like a hard working week for you too, remember to pace yourself!

Zoo, your DP really is asking for a smack round the head, isn't he? How lovely to be able to Just Not Do Stuff because he knows you'll pick up the slack. Hope DD2's phone can be sorted out anyway, a disappointed teen is almost worse than a disappointed toddler. Stay safe if you do go out today, it's terribly blowy here in the south east. Willohound is refusing to go out unless absolutely necessary, and just sitting in the kitchen with his nose out the dogflap!

That hope you are ok this morning. You really mustn't soldier on through the pain, go back to a medic of some description if it's not better / getting worse.

Lisette, thank you for Turkish delight in the naughty corner. Much needed (and my very favourite). I have retrieved the Virtual Wendy from under a cupboard and put her with Ned.

We3 I have concluded you are some kind of superwoman, or 10 years younger than me, or both.

Need to spend today planning as I have this terrific sense of vertigo regarding all the stuff I need to be on top of next week. I can't see the shape of the week yet and it makes me very antsy about how things will go.

To dos:
🔳Usual boring house stuff - DW, LOLs, S&S, everyone to clean own bedroom in advance of new week.
🔳 EHCP paperwork for DS3
🔳 Sort out printer - thanks for the tip on "renting" ink, Lane. I don't know if it would be cost effective for us, when I have a big report to do I can print 100 pages a day!
🔳 Update visual timetables
🔳 Plan menu
🔳 Roast pork for tea
🔳 Put spare bedding under DS2's new bed
🔳 Talk to DS2 about what's stressing him out
🔳 Hang school photos on the wall. I read a thread the other day about how odd it was to want photos of your own children about the house. That's rhubarb IMO and I will have pictures where I want them.

Cherry waves to Expletive, Chic, Rachael, Bower, KT, foxes and everyone else. Don't get blown away today.

KTCluck · 09/02/2020 09:02

Lane hope a chat with the support worker helps a bit, sorry everything is getting on top of you and fingers crossed the rest of you still avoid the bug. Cagletini is gorgeous! My DD gets more screen time than I’d like too - she had a good half hour on kids YouTube on my phone as she woke up early, and then had just asked for the tv on. However, they are so busy at nursery that I don’t think it does harm to have a bit as down time at home. Nursery report DD is quite advanced in a lot of things, and she is able to play quite well independently so I’m not concerned. Cagletini sounds very similar.

Zoo I’m so frustrated on your behalf at ‘d’p, and I hope he keeps his promise to DD2. Does the trip to the shop have to be done today? The weather is horrific here already.
DH is travelling back from Liverpool today on a coach (no doubt with a hangover too). I don’t envy him!

Grin at wet fart Hazel. Hope DH feels better soon. It certainly is all never ending.

DD only had Clark’s for the first year. I was terrified I’d ruin my PFB’s feet with anything else Grin. Now I tend to splash out on a pair of boots and the rest can be trainers or Asda / next / whatever. Funnily enough her feet seem to be surviving.

I really want that journal We3. I don’t really do any journaling but pretty stationary pleases me.

Waves to lisette Foxes Bower Willow Chic SC Toostressy That Rachael and apologies to anyone I’ve missed.

Yesterday’s Ta Das:
✅ 2 LOL
✅ unpacked and suitcase back in its spot
✅ cutlery drawer sorted a la missions.
✅ S&S
✅ sink shiny before bed

Today’s so far:
✅ DD’s bed stripped and LOL in
✅ next LOL ready to go
✅ bed made
✅ curtains open
✅ cats and humans fed and watered

To Do:
Get dressed soonish - DD at a birthday party at 10:30
Clean clothes put away
DW set off
Pile of toys carried back upstairs from living room floor

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 09:37

Tbh alot of childrens tv programmes can be educational especially the ones with lots of song and repetition!

Pain is much much less today i am happy to report

Wind is picking up here. Neighbour has lost a fence panel. Just chucked some rubbish in the bin in the hope of weighing it down a bit. Could do with something to put on lid of cardboard bin as its full and dont fancy picking up the contents ....

KTCluck · 09/02/2020 09:42

I vote we use any useless / hungover DPs to weigh down bins. We have a couple of bricks for ours so there’s one going spare here once he’s home Grin

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 09:45

Grin i just put a brick on my bin 👍 neighbour is actually missing fence on both sides of their garden Shock

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/02/2020 09:48

Yowling a gale here since some god forsaken hour of darkness
Thank you for all the support
Sadly there's no bread, milk, pack up bits, cat food etc.i gave no choice but to venture out.i really don't want to,esp as now start pouring down
Just waiting last bread to pop from toaster to feed everyone then I'm heading out into hell.....

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 09:53

zoo might the weather be less horrid later on? Can you check the forecast online?

LaneBoy · 09/02/2020 10:12

She’s funny enough for the rest of us put together TBH that :o definitely the “class clown” of the family :o sadly I don’t get many photos of her as she is instantly aware if I try Hmm - you’d think I’d have more photos with smartphones making it so easy! Yes KT she’s very different from my older two who were speech and language delayed. I think she’s bored a lot of the time, we don’t take her out much. I literally cannot remember the last time we went out as a family of five!

DD1 isn’t actually feeling ill so I’m hoping that is a good sign. Still being sick though.

Willow that’s exactly it. I’m really feeling the pressure at the moment to just keep going. DH and I have been through a lot of bad times before, physical health, mental health, work stuff, all sorts, but usually it’s worked out so we have been able to pull each other through it. But DH’s health isn’t likely to improve this time (first time round he was able to have surgery - if they drill his spine again the vertebra would collapse Hmm) and he’s more and more depressed and stressed (can’t blame him) so this flare up of mine has really freaked me out. TBH it was the pressure of taking everything on that triggered the first one. But if not me, then who is going to Confused

LaneBoy · 09/02/2020 10:29

To do
🎯make sure laundry is done
🎯get DS to shower
🎯print out DS’ work for next week (changed my mind about adding something new - DD1 will be off two days anyway, and it’s an inset day for her on Friday so he can have the same day off). Won’t need to think much as he didn’t do all his maths from this week due to being sick.
🎯preparation for therapy tomorrow - mostly reading stuff but a bit of list writing, I have very specific plans as to what to discuss... trying not to panic that I’ll end up sick too and won’t be able to go! She does do phone appts though apparently.
🎯start a new series (keeping faith s2 on iplayer)
🎯art

Also would love to finish my ACEs write up/homework but that may be too ambitious for today.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/02/2020 17:04

Well done on battling Storm Ciara zoo
