Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

That's our problem, our only bathroom is downstairs so the first thing we all have to do every day is come down. Then the DCs have breakfast and pop back up to get dressed, bed making always gets forgotten about, I haven't been strict about it (can't really as we only turn back ours). It's a fight I CBA to have TBH.

TooStressyTooMessy · 26/01/2020 13:05

Hello all!

foxes Grin hope you feel better soon.

KT hope you manage to get your lazy day. Boozy lunch sounds fab.

I never look at the launchpad anyway Lane Grin.

Re. bed making. I have actually started to enforce this and it is one of the only chores that has really been a success for kids. Basically unless I am changing their bedsheets that day then I just leave their beds alone. About half the time they make them and half the time they don’t but we have delegated that chore to them.

Am super excited that we have some Kallax downstairs now GrinGrin. Not as much as I would like (DH is not a fan but I ground him down to a relatively out of sight area) but enough for some meaningful storage. Yay!!!

Big wing flaps to all. Off to try to catch up on laundry.

LaneBoy · 26/01/2020 13:33

Kallax is fab. One of our upcoming tasks is to move one of ours from the living room to our bedroom along with many of the more precious board games etc. We don’t get to play them much anyway so they may as well be kept out of the way of the toddler and create more space for her to play. Everywhere is a mess at the moment though so it’s hard to know where to start on sorting everything.

Ugh today is not going well. DD having had no sleep is in a foul mood but still needs to get stuff done. We have chatted a little bit about the chore chart and rules, so we can make compromises and ensure she is happy with it (to some extent... some rules won’t be optional! But for example I’ve agreed to give her longer with her phone on Fridays and Saturdays). Trying to organise DS’ stuff for next week too.

Tired and grumpy myself though TBH.

That's the thing expletive isn't it. You have to pick your battles or else it feels like you're just constantly nagging them to do things.

Ta-da's so far
✔️Dusted living room
✔️Pulled all the furniture out and hoovered properly. Under the sofa was disgusting 🤮
✔️ cleaned all windows and glass in sitting room
✔️ cleared our eldest two Nintendo DS's and games because they never use them any more. DH will stick them on eBay when he gets a chance
✔️ hoovered under sofa cushions. Didn't find any money but did find lots of muck 🙈
✔️ am in the middle of sorting DH dvd collection. Not getting rid of any just putting them away properly and he's still moaning 🙄

Now going to polish the things I've moved to sort them and put them all back

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 26/01/2020 14:44

More ta-da's
✔️ cleaned all pictures and ornaments and put back
✔️ put all furniture and toys back
✔️polished sitting room
✔️sorted out a drawer and unit in sitting room
✔️ cleaned bottom stair carpet. It tends to get grubby from people using it to lean their foot on to tie laces. It's come up quite well but now the other stairs look grubby. Might clean one every now and again because it took less than a minute so I could have the whole lot done without having to really find a chunk of time to do them if I do it one by one.

I'm now off to do the day to day stuff that I've not started yet. Well after I have a cuppa I am.

ChicCroissant · 26/01/2020 17:03

Famille Croissant have just spent hours on DD's maths homework, one question specifically. We may have been over-complicating it a bit, but FFS!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 26/01/2020 19:06

Final ta-da's
✔️S&S
✔️LOL
✔️ ironing
✔️ made dinner
✔️ made lunches for tomorrow
✔️ helped with homework
✔️ polished whole house
✔️ windows and glass cleaned in most of the house. Still need to do shower and will do when eldest gets out of the bath
✔️ hoovered whole house
✔️ mopped downstairs
✔️ hotspot cleared at top of stairs

Little 2 are off to bed now so will change bedding tomorrow.

Going to sit and watch the first Star Wars film with DS1 now because he's been asking if we can watch them all for ages.

TooStressyTooMessy · 26/01/2020 19:32

Chic, I feel your pain. This weekend I have struggled with one question on DD2’s homework. She tried on her own and couldn’t do it. I tried and couldn’t figure it out with her explanation. I consulted another mum who checked what her own child had done. I asked DD1. DD2 saying she didn’t understand. Gave up and got DH to try with her today. With the help of Google she has an answer but no idea if it is right or wrong Grin. The kicker... she is 6 HmmGrinConfused.

TooStressyTooMessy · 26/01/2020 19:50

Should have said, it was maths too.

KTCluck · 26/01/2020 20:00

Evening. Hope you’ve all got homework sorted! Thankful I have a while to go before I have to worry about that!

We had the lovely lazy Sunday we had planned (complete with Sunday lunch kindly dropped off by MIL and easy pizza tea) however I was quite productive too.

Ta da:
✅ Pile of ironing done and clothes hung up
✅ bags packed for work / nursery
✅ dishes done. Sink shiny. Benches wiped
✅ floors swept and spot cleaned
✅ toys tidied away in living room and DD’s room
✅ overnight oats and tomorrow’s lunch sorted
✅ LOL washed and dried

I also found the energy to take DD to the park on her scooter for half an hour.

I’ve found when I give myself permission to have a lazy day I enjoy it but still get done what I need to. If I feel guilty for having a lazy day I achieve nothing and just feel grumpy all day. Embrace the lazy Sunday fledglings!

We3 that’s a fab to do list today. No laziness in your house!

TooStressyTooMessy · 26/01/2020 20:57

KT, my two used to occasionally get homework at nursery from the age of 3 Hmm. DD2’s nursery was particularly bad for it. Apparently due to parental request????!!!!!!! By this stage I already had DD1 in school with homework so I did get DD2 to do it as at least they could do their homework at the same time but still!!!!!

Bowerbird5 · 27/01/2020 00:37

No flying here. It is Sunday and I can’t because of the pain and stiffness I’m in. However I did sort out an anti procrastination about a pay ment am

HungryHazelEyes · 27/01/2020 04:46

Ugh homework! There's no way I can help my 2 with their math homework, luckily they both understand math better than I ever did and pick it up quickly. I was never really terrible at it, but I did hate it. Even though my last job (feels weird saying that) was all numbers and money!

Ta Das today;

  • meal planning, shopping list written
  • roller skating(!) Haven't done it in years, I'm worse than I remembered being. Everyone had fun though and both DC got to bring a friend.
  • dinner eaten (leftovers)
  • grocery shopping done.
  • ironing finally done, all caught up and hanging up.
  • outfit ready for tomorrow for my 1st day at my new job.
  • alarm set earlier than usual as it'll be an earlier start from now on.
  • Will soon take a shower and go to bed earlier, but for now relaxing on the couch for a few minutes.

It has been a lovely day, although the weather could have been nicer. Hopefully those of you helping DC with homework were able to be successful. When they switched the math to the new common core math, DD had a hard time switching, resisted at first and did it the way she knew how, showed work and they gave her zero, even thoughthe answer was right. Made me mad at the time, although I understand now that they wanted to make sure she got it. But to give her a zero I thought was harsh.

HungryHazelEyes · 27/01/2020 04:50

Oh, I forgot to mention that we finally got our furnace working again on Thursday am, part is under warranty, although there may be other costs to pay. I'm just glad we have consistent heat again throughout the house. Heaters were promptly returned to owners that same day so was able to de-clutter a little, if that even counts at all towards getting things done.

THAT90sBITCH · 27/01/2020 06:38

Good morning all!

Full of a cold here as are smallest two dc resulting in a few days of crap sleep for us all! Dc5 woke at 530 for a feed so i just got up with him as seemed pointless going back to sleep! He is now napping in the pram.

Spent a few days tackling dds bedroom. Still not finished. Need to sort her books, clothes and under the bed. It looks much better already though and i moved things around a bit which she likes.

We do ok with the primary dcs homework here. I am quite good with maths and english. Its dc1s homework that gets to me because the guidance on what is expected is so poor. It will literally be two words written by him in his planner like "artist picture" he either can't remember what he's meant to do or what he thinks he should do seems really not enough to me. We have many disagreements on it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/01/2020 07:01

that D's school was vague like that.the girls school is much better and is in their books, whereas D's used to bring home random bits of paper that were stuck into booksat some point.capacity to lose bits paper here is extremely high so a lot got lost.im glad it's highly unlikely he will ever return there!Brew

Crap weekend,"d"p finding new job/training/change routine stressful and guess who cops the fall out.i woke home this morning then kept out his way to prevent a Monday morning murder
This week I have a TAF meeting

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 27/01/2020 09:12

Good luck in your new job hazel

I'm with you on the crap nights sleep that I've had less than 3 hours 😩.

Ta-da's for this morning
✔️S&S
✔️LOL
✔️ironing

TooStressyTooMessy · 27/01/2020 09:56

Good luck today Hazel!

We3 and that BrewBrew.

Bowerbird5 · 27/01/2020 10:14

Ooo yes, good luck Hazel I hope you have a briiliant day.

Off to read posts.

TA DA
Cleaned the hot plate. This takes longer than you think.Something sticky dropped on it.

Strategicchoring · 27/01/2020 13:01

Good luck in your new role Hazel!

Sympathies over maths homework conundrums: it scares me frankly! I couldn't ever do mental arithmetic at school as I couldn't hold figures in my mind doing division or multiplication for example. I simply couldn't remember and then would panic. I had to see it written down (which they didn't allow then). I see dd writing out these long lines of equations for hwk and they could be Chinese characters as far as I am concerned. Goes totally over my thick head. However, she assures me that the long complex looking equations are in fact the easy ones ... .

And we rarely make beds but like Expletive I like to turn them down and open all the windows (fresh air freak).

Sorry things are still so hard going Zoo Flowers

And sorry to hear about illness That and more broken nights Brew

Great lists yesterday Lane We3kings Hazel and KTCluck and others

Tinselette how are you?

Oh yes - and thank you - all offers of visiting littlies gratefully accepted Grin Grin Grin Any time Grin DD loves them and is very good with them too!

Dh away and I've been out this morning helping someone with English for their business/website. We were in the country yesterday, so I'm only now packing away toddler toys and my Ernest et Celestine bowls and spoons until the littlies come next time ... . Smile

It was quite funny after they left actually, because we had cleared up and were just about to flop for the evening when we all had a collective f moment and remembered we had an important commitment at church in the country in 45 mins time that I we had totally forgotten about Shock and it's an hour's drive door to door. Cue me and dd running around laughing and shouting a bit and dh (thankfully) keeping very calm saying "bring coats and dogs, do not stop to take anything with you, we are leaving NOW" and we then piled in the car and drove like the wind (well as fast as one could in freezing fog) and made it only 8 mins late and happily things were running a bit late at that end too and there's an optional bit at the beginning so not too bad all in all. Felt tired on Sunday and I'd forgotten to order fuel as well (menopausal memory) so we were worried the central heating would stop but we had a nice day dog-walking in morning and visiting the mud monster dhorse in the afternoon. Didn't want to come back but loads on this week at office/home so needs must.

So far today have only emptied dw, done two washes and put in td, and put another two on.

Feeling a bit flat today. Not looking forward to Friday (obviously). DD is getting a bit of stick at school about it too (nothing serious but its comments from teachers as well as friends). A friend of ours is very ill. Then there is all the awful things in the news about Corona, environmental disasters, hideous men like Weinstein, and today all horrific and terribly sad coverage of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Heard a very erudite woman on the BBC reminding us that as this only took place in the 20th century, and since then there has been genocide in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and many other places , it would be folly to assume it won't happen again in modern times. (In fact is it happening right now with Rohingya muslims in Myanmar? ) A good but sobering point I thought... . Sad Sad Sad Amazing stories of fortitude and resilience though too ... .

Anyway, anyway, sorry to witter on ... . I must go and do something useful. I'm ashamed to say the boudoir is still in a pitiful state and desperately needs attention.

Haven't caught up with thread but mahoosive waves to everyone!

Strategicchoring · 27/01/2020 13:10

Oohh I have jsut looked at boudoir (we don't sleep in there - it's a spare room next to main bathroom where all clothing and miscellaneous stuff gets dumped) and I am very tempted to run in the opposite direction ... .

Strategicchoring · 27/01/2020 13:47

Hope pain eases a bit Bower

KTCluck · 27/01/2020 20:48

Ah Zoo sorry about your crap weekend. Hope things are looking up today.

Bower hope the pain is easing.

Good luck Hazel!

No flying here other than LOL. DH is out tonight so I’ve just settled for toast once I’d got DD to bed. So minimal dishes to wash but they can wait until the morning. Sorry Flylady!
