Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.

Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Tidy I meant to add, after (and during) such an awful time, can you take a few days for yourself? Take it very steady. Flowers

Tidyhomewannabe · 20/01/2020 09:40

Ta da
beds made
washing hung up
kids fed, washed and off to school / nursery

I've just eaten breakfast in peace and quiet! Plan today is just to try and establish a bit of organisation back, so uniform ironing, meal plan, huge shopping list (oh has done extremely well looking after the kids and running the home whilst I've been away for a while but we are missing a few necessities!) then off to the shops after I've picked dd2 from nursery.

loving the name change , it means I can write hey bitch multiple times a day Grin

Thanks for the kind replies, life is just so shit at times! 52 was no age to go, makes you want to grab life and live it to the fullest because you never know what is around the next corner!!

Off to start the ironing, catch up with you all later Brew

Strategicchoring · 20/01/2020 10:01

Tidy I had no idea your mum was so young; very sad at any age but that is indeed shit and horribly unfair Flowers

Good luck with your list and good to hear oh being supportive.

Quite a lot happening there ATM. But I'm working today so trying to focus on that exclusively. Sorry not to catch up with entire thread but hi to all!

Zoo I am doing diary too
Bower glad you are feeling a bit better
Waves to Lane and everyone else!

LaneBoy · 20/01/2020 11:48

52 wow :( DH turns 52 tomorrow. That is so young

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the meeting despite it going ok. Glad I went as the cold is definitely on its way out but spent much of it feeling dizzy etc.

Might put “curl up in bed and cry” on my to do list 🤔😂

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2020 12:05

tidy my mum was 52(I was a teen) at the time it felt unfair.as I got older I realised it's young and definitely not fairFlowers

I've been polite and called her that but bitch is very tempting to vent my aggression/irritation,not suggesting for one minute our fellow fledgling is one

Tada
Living room reclaimed
Sorted a box crap, ditch most in bin.shed bloody spilled birdseed D's hadn't clear up all over the laminate to the four corner of the room.gah!swept that all up

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2020 12:07

*all rubbish
lane will curl up and cry help?if so run with itFlowers

Tidyhomewannabe · 20/01/2020 12:36

I refer to the shortened username bitch in a full playful manner Wink just typing it makes me giggle (very mature here) I think I could do with a new username but I'm not as creative as all of you.

zoo I remember you mentioning previously losing your mum young, I was lucky really to have mine with me for 37 years , I can't imagine dealing with this kind of grief as a teenager Flowers you are a strong person!

Hope work is going well strategic .

lane have you got anything nice planned for your dh's birthday?

Tada
Ironing
Meal plan
Shopping list

My lovely friend popped in for a cuppa and has bought me a lovely white rose bush (my mums favourite flower) , its the mini variety so it can be kept indoors, so thoughtful, it made me emotional - I need to look after this house plant , my record for keeping houseplants alive is zero! Blush Off to get dd2 out of her uniform and attack the food shopping.......I don't mind the shopping , it's the putting it away afterwards that drives me crazy.

LaneBoy · 20/01/2020 13:01

Aww that’s so lovely of your friend. I am crap at houseplants.

Cagletini had a nap AT nursery?! WTF. I didn’t expect that at all.

Nope no plans for birthday, I’ve got him a present (DVD box set of Blake’s 7?! Nostalgia thing :o he will be chuffed!) but I have my “adverse childhood experiences” course (ugh) and between us we are all ill/down and have zero energy, and Cagletini is entirely the wrong age/stage for dinner out! I don’t think he really feels like celebrating TBH. He’s a shadow of his former self lately.

ta da
✅got to meeting (taxi as had to wait for DH to get home from nursery run so as not to drag poorly DS out)
✅discussed everything I needed to, managed despite feeling crap. Support worker gave me a lift home ❤️
✅discussed some stuff with DH
✅let friend know we aren’t going to make the first board game club meet on Wed so she can give our space to someone else. Wish we could go (board games are my obsession!) but pacing myself is priority at the moment
✅gave DH some dates to put in diary since he’s writing meetings in

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2020 13:07

Tidy when it is a bit warmer you can plant those outside. Perhaps plan for a lovely pot.

Thanks for the good wishes.

TA Da
S&S the bathroom.
Was planning but DH now wants to go to butcher.

Found a Meal Planner on line images. Would suit Zoo and SC in particular. It is a weekly plan and has useful info like Who is in etc

Must go he is getting twitchy. Didn’t get my plan done arrgghh!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2020 14:12

Floors all washed
DS has Lego out now

Need find an old diary and add birthdays etc into new one

rachael12345 · 20/01/2020 14:23

Hello all - couple of days off - goodness so much chat!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 20/01/2020 15:09

Well after sleeping in and not having a very productive morning I'm now stuck in A&E because DS3 split his head open at school so not a very productive afternoon either.

LaneBoy · 20/01/2020 16:50

Oh bugger we3! Hope he’s ok poor kid

ta da
✅sat upstairs and chatted to a couple of friends who were anxious about things
✅writing my course journal now. Keep getting distracted hence being on MN!

I didn’t do the curl up and cry thing. Think I missed the boat 😂 off out to the steam room again shortly as I have the chance of a lift. Bit worried it will be too peopley but I should still go.

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2020 16:55

Oh dear We3 hope he is ok. I haven’t got much done. Can’t face boudoir today. I just made bed and that was it. I need DH to mend the drawer as that would help.
Bought a free range chicken for £6. A piece of shoulder of lamb for £7. That is for Wednesday. DH is annoyed because friend texted me for a coffee. He didn’t mention not wanting to go but drove the other way. It is quiz night so I text her and asked her for tea without asking him. Oh dear! He was going on about clearing table which I asked him to help with three weeks ago. He has done nothing except pets fed, fire fed and him fed. I managed to clear kitchen table, set it, make stuffing prep all the veg in 35 mins. I did say I didn’t realise I now had to run it past him and pointed out that friend had invited me for tea twice last week when we went to flower and gardening club. She always does so I take something each time for one of the meals. He likes her too. Grumpy old b.........! Still feel below par although diet has been a good idea. I am going to do meal planning whether he likes it or not. We were eating far too much meat and my tummy can’t take it.

HungryHazelEyes · 20/01/2020 16:56

Ta Das so far:

Our bed stripped, mattress and pillow protectors in the drier, sheets in washer. Working on lunches for the week (a casserole). Almost done with it. DH just text me, the clothes he's wearing don't smell clean, so raided wardrobes, smelling as I go. Will have at least 1 more load to wash than I was planning. Thinking the DC forgot to add the soap to the washer.. grrrr. Almost 10am here, sitting with my 2nd cup of coffee before finishing the casserole.

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2020 16:57

🌷Sounds good Lane

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2020 17:16

lane sometimes a listening ear means everythingStar
We3 oh no!!hope poor lambs ok
Bower miserable old fart!!hope you enjoy the company and glad you feeling a little better.is chicken/fish better for your digestion (as it's often given pets after surgery etc as deemed "light on the gut")?
Will you still be seeing a doctor?

I cannot believe I've done 7loads bloody washing and I've still not found end of it all.thatll teach me to help lil zoo sort under her bed yesterday, whilst dd2 muck out her side

My hands are cracked and bleeding.think it's the cold so will be prep tea

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2020 17:17

And then cream up and rest them

Tidyhomewannabe · 20/01/2020 17:34

we3 oh no, hope he's ok?

lane I have just figured out who you are with the mention of cagletini Grin, maybe you could all go somewhere you like this weekend? Great meeting went ok.

bower thankyou , definitely going to look for a pretty pot - I have just realised that my friend had made a fabric tag with J on in (mums initial) made me cry again , such a thoughtful little touch!

hungry fab work - frustrated on your behalf on having to go back through wardrobes ! At least you've managed to sort it easily.

zoo hope ds manages to pick up all the lego pieces - it is not very nice to stand on a stray piece as I have found out many many times!! I think children leave bits out on purpose just to torture our feet Grin

rachael hi and welcome back.

ta da
shopping
shopping put away
tea made
school run
fed everyone
took all 3 kids to the dentist ........... 2 days early Confused
tea pots nearly done

Coffee and then starting the evening routine.

KTCluck · 20/01/2020 19:38

So sorry for your loss Tidy Flowers. What a lovely gesture from your friend.

We3 hope DS is ok and you weren’t in A&E too long.

I’m not long in from work. Convinced DD to put her crayons away from the sitting room floor and she’s now settling for bed. I’ve set of a LOL I forgot to sort this morning. I’ll sort the kitchen after I’ve eaten (DH currently cooking) and that will be the extent of my flying for today!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 20/01/2020 20:22

Walk in/A&E (they are combined where we are) was really busy so we were there 3 hours but they've glued him up and he's fine. He came home, had his dinner and was in bed asleep by 5.30, nothing to do with the head he's been up half the night coughing. We actually nearly kept him home today but he wanted to go in.

I also fell asleep while the little one was having his milk.

Have finished the ironing
S&S
Made tomorrow's lunches
Made jelly for dc pudding tomorrow
Made a sandwich for my dinner as couldn't be bothered to cook.
Few dishes

I now really need to prep for an interview tomorrow but I have a splitting bad headache and I'm exhausted. Don't know why I'm so tired today. Going to take a couple of painkillers then get on with the prep.

HungryHazelEyes · 20/01/2020 21:04

We3 I hope DS is on the mend soon, good luck tomorrow with your interview!
Zoo I get dry hands too, try to keep adding cream and put gloves on if you can.
Bower sounds like your DH is jealous that you have plans. Maybe he should make plans of his own.
Lane that steam room sounds amazing! I would love that right now.

More ta das:

  • casserole made and some eaten for lunch
  • laundry rewashed, dried and folded.
  • sheets put back on bed.
  • comforter washed, now drying.
  • unloaded clean dishes out of dw, filled it up with dirty and started it.
  • vacuumed.
  • mopped quickly.
  • stripped DS's bed, sheets ready to go in washer in a few minutes.

I'll soon be doing my gel nails again and will be able to relax other than more laundry. Its 2pm here right now so feel like I've accomplished something today. Oh I guess I should do my ironing as well!

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2020 23:21

Please send Ned to iron Hazel’s washing.

zoo 🤣 re miserable old fart!
He did wash up and he was nice to friend when she arrived. It was lovely. First proper meal I have had for days. I thought chicken would be lighter yes and I will make Jewish chicken soup tomorrow. I made bread and butter pudding too. I needed something quick that I had the ingredients of and wasn’t too sweet as friend is diabetic.
Hazel he went to watch the football at the pub with DS2 yesterday while I was at choir.
Your right though I have more of a social life than him.

We went to quiz and lost by one mark. There was a difference of opinion on one question so that is why we lost. It was fun though lots of banter.
DH was in an ok mood when I came home anyway I came to bed nearly straight away.

LaneBoy · 21/01/2020 02:56

ta da

Morning all! Bower, that sounds like MOG territory (miserable old git). Pleased he was nice to your friend but really, you should be able to rely on that, shouldn't you?

We3, hope DC3 is doing better after his "adventure". Lane, that's a big list, brilliant, but don't push yourself too hard with things you find difficult. Hazel, hope Ned assisted with the ironing! Hello all others, brain has gone this morning and can't list.

Ta Das from yesterday
✓Dressed to shoes, hair and face (have been neglecting this lately. Must try harder)
✓ walked Willowhound
✓ financial rebaseline for Uni costs for DS1 - all good. Although it would help enormously if he could get a job.
✓ updated bookkeeping
✓ spoke to DMum
✓ 3 LOL all through and away!
✓S&S bathrooms
✓ changed our bed
✓ DW rotated, run again, rotated again and run after dinner
✓ dinner achieved. I love batch cooked stuff, it was so easy
✓ worked with DD on her Poetry Matrix - her ASD makes poetry analysis for Eng Lit at GCSE almost impossible as she doesn't naturally "respond" to things or see nuance. If the poet says the grass was green the it was, it's not some deep-seated metaphor for happiness. What does she feel when she reads the poem? Um, her socks, the chair, it's cold etc (Eng Lit questions seem to be very lazy in their language, oddly). So, we've built a matrix of questions / responses that allow her to automate the process other people can do innately. It's slow going but by the summer of 2021, when she sits the exams, she should have enough of a bank of questions / observations to get through Unseen Poetry without trauma.
✓ Had a conversation with DS2 at 1am while he made the noisiest scrambled eggs on the planet. You have to pick your moments with him, so it was lovely, but I'm shattered.

Back to the coalface today. Not sure how much of anything will get done, might walk Willowhound then have a little nap (strong coffee and getting on with stuff far more likely).
