Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.

Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Not been as productive as usual so far today but I have done
✔️ LOL
✔️ 2 x loads of ironing
✔️ put some of DS3 outgrown clothes in the loft for DS4
✔️ cleaned the bedside cabinets
✔️ sorted my jewellery. Put a few watches in the charity bag and threw most of the rest.
✔️ got rid of 3 bottles of baby oil I was given when DS4 was born. Had 4dc and still have no idea what the purpose of baby oil is
✔️ changed my bed sheets
✔️ hung my dressing gowns in the wardrobe rather than on the end of the bed making the place look a mess
✔️ got rid of 2 old lip liners
✔️ sorted out my pj's and beachwear. Charity shop bag for a lot of it and bin for the rest.
✔️ Sprayed some mould cleaner in the shower and I'm just about to go and scrub it off

Fever has now gone after 9 days. Just viral sinusitis left but thankful to be at the end of it and back to work tomorrow.

House looks like a slum. 😜

It is a 4 bed detached 90s Wimpey box in Northern Scotland. Previous owners put bedroom over garage and extended the galley kitchen. For reasons best known to themselves they put a conservatory off the dining room which is unusable 6 months of the year. Garden now neglected. Needs updating inside over next few years. But it is HOME.

Tinselette1940 · 19/01/2020 15:44

Bower I hope you are feeling better. The app wouldn't let me track back to see what the issue is.

I should also add that my house doesn't have much of a Hallway - just the cloakroom, stairs and a door to sitting/dining/ kitchen. It's not a large house. None is around here because of heating costs. It is nice and cosy and I pretend it's a cottage 😉

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/01/2020 18:09

Tada
Shopping almost all away
Part bake rolls in oven to accompany the stew.dd2 has same veg now cooking with little veg buoillion, garlic and lots herbs and will add freshly cookedrosemary and red onion veg sausages, sliced, once it's all ready

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 19/01/2020 19:17

Ta Da
☑️ Walked hound
☑️ 2 LOL
☑️ cleaned all the ceiling fans and light fittings, including the foully greasy one in the kitchen
☑️ Cleaned the cooker hood while I was at it.
☑️ Cleaned the windowsills in the study because DH hadn't before Christmas when I asked him to (they're covered in his bloody cactus)
☑️ Sat with DS3 while he did homework
☑️ Rewarded myself with an hour of reading, and hour of sewing and 5 minutes with the poet William Cowper (1731-1800) who was definitely overpleased with his flowery turns of phrase.
☑️ Cooked and served roast pork etc followed by pineapple upside down cake (yes, it is 1976 in this house) while DH bit his nails over the football.

Now sitting down while someone else does the kitchen tidying!

Lane, thanks for your notes on dyscalculia. I conclude that's not DS3's problem from what you've said. He can understand and retain complex mathematical processes like long multiplication etc but when asked to do the actual arithmetic, shuts down because he can't manipulate the numbers. He know what he has to do, but can never remember his number bonds or times tables, despite daily practice. It's a bit of a puzzle.

LaneBoy · 19/01/2020 19:48

It sounds like Math(s) Anxiety may be worth looking at. It’s extremely debilitating!

Or perhaps some kind of memory retrieval issue, but I guess that would show up in all areas not just maths.

ta da
✅wrote up my “forgotten things” diary segment from therapy on Monday. Hardly anything to write which is another example that the meds are helping!
✅helped DD with homework
✅made it upstairs in the house!!! 😅
✅went to leisure centre with friend... discovered pool was shut 🙄 due to gala, so sat in cafe.
✅looked through trauma course pack and wrote down what I could remember from the session, plus homework (noting negative automatic thoughts... easy 🙄😂)
✅printed more work for DS this week
✅amalgamated all DS’ geography sheets into one document so it’s easier in future
✅told DD to shower (I’m assuming she has) and get stuff ready for school

I think I’m ok to go to the meeting with senco tomorrow although the steam room really would have helped 😣 DS is now unwell which does change plans for afterwards as he’s meant to have chess and I’d go straight there from the meeting. We shall see.

Mmm pineapple upside down cake sounds awesome Willow Smile.

Love hearing about people’s houses. Ours is really new. Just about 10 years old. It’s a terraced house over 3 floors. Quite big which I know we are very lucky to have. 4 bedrooms so a room for each DD plus a spare room / study for when parents come to stay. I do find it hard to keep on top of all the rooms though. It’s not a mansion before you all get the wrong idea though!! Garden is small but again, lucky to have garden.

KTCluck · 19/01/2020 20:15

Evening all.

I’ve spent most of the day with family. DSis and DN came round for Sunday dinner (we cooked it together while DH watched the football kids). We also had roast pork Willow but unfortunately no pineapple upside down cake. I’m still stuffed.

DD worships her cousin and follows him everywhere. They were hyper by the time the food was ready so she’s crashed as soon as the first bedtime story was over. Result!

Ta Das:
✅ ironing including the week’s work clothes and my nightmare to iron outfit for a day out with DH on Saturday.
✅ breakfast and lunch dishes washed
✅ table and floor wiped after DD was a little enthusiastic with her eating.
✅ kitchen door and a few cupboard fronts wiped as they were looking very grubby
✅ cooker hood cleaned
✅ roast cooked and scoffed
✅ huge pan of soup made for work lunches
✅ healthy snacks prepared for next few days (I WILL fit into my holiday clothes)
✅ overnight oats prepped for breakfast
✅ dishwasher set off. DH is doing the rest of the post-roast kitchen / dining room sorting and he can put the sitting room back together
✅ DD’s room tidied

Early night with my book now. How is the weekend over already?!

Lane shame about the pool, but well done for getting out. Hope the meeting goes well and DS feels better soon.

Tinselette glad you’re on the mend and hope you are too Bower

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 19/01/2020 20:32

DS4 is doing quite well on the milk ladder so on the dieticians advice to start introducing it in my own diet I had something from the first step today. I really underestimated how my body would react to a tiny bit of food with dairy in. My stomach has been cramping like mad all day.

Ta-da's for this afternoon
✔️Cleaned the shower doors
✔️Polished in my room
✔️Chucked 1/2 box tampons as I don't use them anymore and they were just sitting getting dusty
✔️Dusted the cobwebs in my room
✔️Changed the bedding in the cot
✔️Changed DS3 bedding
✔️Emptied the nappy bin
✔️Cleaned the windows in my room
✔️Sorted a couple of books for the charity bag
✔️Chucked some of DH's holey boxer shorts
✔️Cleaned under my bed - found dh stash of spare socks there are about 50 pairs and he will end up with more at for birthday and Xmas
✔️Sorted my 'nice' underwear. Bummed anything that involved suspenders can't be bothered with that lark anymore 😂
✔️Chucked a pair of sippers which I'd tried to wash but they went all lumpy
✔️Polished a couple of shelves in the wardrobe
✔️Got rid of DS4 next to me. DH said I should sell it. I said I couldn't be bothered. He said that was stupid. I said I have enough to do maybe he should do it if he's so bothered. Suddenly chucking it wasn't a bad idea 🙄
✔️exercise
✔️S&S
✔️LOL
✔️ironing
✔️had a bath and blow dried my hair
✔️done some dishes
✔️hoovered whole house
✔️polished whole house
✔️mopped downstairs
✔️cleaned windows, mirrors etc whole house
✔️filled out letters for school and put them in folders
✔️changes sheets on DS1& DS2 beds
✔️emptied bathroom and kitchen bins
✔️LOL
✔️ironing
✔️dishes

Now trying to decide between film or series on Netflix.

Tidyhomewannabe · 19/01/2020 21:37

Evening all, I haven’t been around for a while, lots of new names I have a feeling some of the regulars have changed their user name too so it'll take me a day or 2 to figure out who is who Grin

To those that have been on the thread a while, you may remember that we’ve been having a difficult time. The reason I have been absent is because my beautiful mum took a turn for the worse at the beginning of December and lost her well fought battle to cancer on the 4th Jan, so I’ve been away from home, spending as much time as I could with her , then sorting the necessary things afterwards. As you can imagine , losing 2 family members within 5 months of each other has taken its toll , but I’m sure the routines and you lovely lot, will help whip my house back into a home Flowers starting from tomorrow because tonight, I am back home and I have a g&t poured Gin looking forward to chatting to you all again , I hope you’ve all been well whilst I’ve been off the thread?

LaneBoy · 19/01/2020 21:48

Tidy welcome back, I’m so so sorry about your lovely mum. ❤️💐

Tinselette glad you’re on the mend at last!

I could destroy a pineapple upside down cake right now. Proper winter comfort food!

ta da
✅printed yet more maths for DS (easy stuff for tomorrow since he’s ill and we are busy so no time to start something new)
✅checked nursery bag
✅got my clothes together for tomorrow
✅got Cagletini’s clothes ready for tomorrow
✅washing into dryer
✅new LOL in (are we counting LOL as a load start to finish or just bunging one in the washing machine?)
✅tried several times to decide the plan for tomorrow, it’s all a bit tricky with all of us being below par.

Aww, Tidy, I'm sorry, that's an awful lot to deal with in such a short space of time. Welcome back to the thread, we have had a few new people, they are all lovely and you will soon be back in the swing of things I'm sure Flowers

THAT90sBITCH · 19/01/2020 22:35

Tidy I'm sorry about your mum, welcome back to the thread.

Ta Das so far today:
2 LOL
Grocery shopping done
Dw emptied clean and loaded dirty , got it started

To Dos:
Clean bathroom

Relax for the evening

I'm off work tomorrow so plan on doing extra cleaning such as washing all bedding, including comforter and mattress/ pillow protectors, washing my big coat (it's white! I really need a new, darker one). I need to get some shredding done and sort lots of papers, just not sure if I have the energy, we'll see.

ChicCroissant · 20/01/2020 00:55

Tidy so sorry to hear of your loss Flowers, be kind to yourself at a difficult time.

House - we currently live in a three-bed detached house which is about 20 years old, the youngest house we have ever lived in. Kitchen at the front of the house and one main lounge/diner that runs across the width of the house. One rather over-large 'master suite' which makes the other two bedrooms smaller than I'd like.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2020 06:51

TidyFlowers and hugs lovely.welcome back

I was so cold here I've not hardly slept...

I had a couple more ta Das: bathroom cleaned, including the fan cover, it was disgusting- fluff stuck on it, amazed it was actually working. Dinner made, then sat and relaxed. Ironing didn't get done, but there's always tomorrow.. (Monday)

zoo I hope the rest of your day goes smoother.

foxessocks · 20/01/2020 07:15

tidy so sorry to hear that, welcome back and take it slowly Flowers

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 20/01/2020 07:30

Tidy, so sorry for your loss. Hope Flying can provide structure that is comforting and useful Flowers.

Zoo, hope you can get the kids warmed up! Back on my head today as DH is in London for two days, so it all falls to me for a bit.

Hey ho. Off to put on everything I own to walk WillowHound.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 20/01/2020 07:35

Lane, sorry, forgot to say - I looked up maths anxiety and that's exactly how it manifests. It's not a generalised memory retrieval problem as he's fine in most other subjects. However, if science particularly (where the classroom still more closely resembles a zoo) gets hectoring he also "loses" information and organisation, so I think it really is down to panic shutting down his thinking.

All I need to do now is find a way to bolster his confidence and access that bit of memory (adds it to list). His teacher has suggested using a calculator for a while, to bolster his confidence in the method, which I think is probably a good idea. Thanks for your help!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 20/01/2020 08:09

Tidy I'm new here but just wanted to say sorry for your loss.

Slept in this morning. Did that thing when you dream you're up and about and then you wake up 🤦‍♀️

Managed to do
✔️LOL
✔️some of the ironing

Apparently the traffic is bad too which is typical. Going to try going a different way to avoid it which will probably end up taking longer.

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2020 08:54

Tidyso sorry to hear your news.💐

Lane Yes, took paracetamol and it didn’t make much difference so when the next one was due I upped it to Co-Codymol. It did the trick. I was on them in the past for my neck and back and shoulder. Different pain at different times. Although some people find them awful to take I actually don’t have side affects from them and they really work for me.

Tired but felt a lot better last night.went to bed on time and read for ages. Slept well.having a lie in just now but will get up soon. I had a mostly liquid diet at the weekend.

Going to try and do small amounts. Never finished boudoir so may try to do 15 minutes x 2 in here.
Need to catch up on threads from yesterday.

Strategicchoring · 20/01/2020 08:55

Tidy I am so very sorry for your loss Flowers
