Festive fledglings flying through December - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/11/2019 15:03

Welcome to the December (dare I say the Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Any newbies are very welcome Smile.

**
Flylady also does Christmas missions which I will link to each day. They are really useful and nearer the time she does super missions which help you if you have not managed the regular missions. They are just there to help and as Flylady says... do not worry as you do not need to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Link to the holiday cruising is

here

December’s habit is usually [[http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/december/
pampering yourself]] which is much needed this busy time of year. This can be as simple as taking two minutes to have a cup of tea, if long pampering sessions are unachievable.

The website will update to the December missions etc in the next few days so I will link it again if it is different.

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Ghoulette for the November thread.

Its a cough / cold / sore throat thing zoo DC1 should be in school. Keeping DC2 off as noises from his room in the night tell me he is no better. DC4 happy in himself but poonami first thing and now coughing. DC3 looks alright but says she isnt. Baby is sleeping still but fingers crossed will be ok

I managed to finish reading the first of 3 chapters i need to read for my essay due at noon on thursday. Also reread the guidance on said essay. It should be doable. Just need to find the time. Then i have one due for my higher module on the 19th which will be harder and it matters more what mark i get

Hope your man child behaves today zoo

Morning all! Flowers to all ill fledglings and small people. Everyone is so tired at this point in the year, and November went on at least 3 weeks longer than it usually does, it's no surprise we're all a bit beaten down and ill. Hope everyone is feeling better today and you get someone into school, IVE. I remember feeling if I could just get someone, anyone, out of the house things would start to straighten out (then we bollocksed it all with home education. Ah well).

To Dos Today
Morning routine
Dog walk
Financial stuff I didn't do yesterday
Final review of snotty email to school
Final wrapping of DD's birthday presents
Write report for client (in very small chunks!)
Keep dog out of garden while new fence goes up.

DH is 3 days behind me with this cold and so I suspect it's his turn in bed today.

Hello castle, how lovely to have a new baby for squishy cuddles. IVE, I hope you can fit the work around snotty small people. Laputa, hope today is better generally. Tinselette, getting the office Christmass'd as well is surely flying above and beyond! Zoo, your Christmas kitchen sounds so cheerful.

Right. Off for morning routine. I noticed last night that, despite having been in bed most of the day, the downstairs was looking pretty good. Routines are working, dammit!

Ok so DC1 is up. He now has a cough but feels ok. School for him. DC3 wants to go to school even though has sore throat, calpol and school for her!

I want to Christmas my kitchen. I have a pack of paper chains from b and m, i might get DC2 to do them for me today and put them up in there. Not sure what else i can do as all my surfaces are cluttered

Good morning!

Ooh Castle it's so lovely to have you back! Smile
And many, many congrats on your baby boy! Smile Flowers
(And yes, the furry collection is expanding, now have two dogs, and a gorgeous heavy horse who I miss a lot - don't get to see enough of him in winter - even though he is only an hour away! Do you still have your thoroughbred?)

Goodness! A six month retriever (gorgeous!) and a new baby (also gorgeous!) is a bit of a tough brief! Its a difficult age! (You have my sympathies too because our "puppy" now 2 is the brightest button and our lady who is still helping us with her training said she has never had a more difficult nut to crack and she's in to everything!) But if you have the time - brief five or ten minute training sessions throughout the day (ideally three or four but done consistently) - focusing on "look at me" (foundation) - carry treats and a clicker at all times in a pocket so as to reward good behaviour within seconds. "Bed" command every single time you eat or feed baby or doorbell rings. Firm rules around toddlers and vice versa. A no go zone or crate where he can take time out. Loads of exercise and mental tests. What's his level of training so far? Has he had retrieve training? Once foundations of look at me, sit, stay, lie down, leave it, come, walk to heel, in place (both on and OFF lead) start with "find the sausage" chopped up pieces of Herta loosely wrapped in newspaper in cardboard box, progress to long leash training with ball and one other person). How's his recall? I don't suppose I have to ask if he's food motivated? Grin Hate to say it but training between now and 18 months (adult) pretty vital to lay foundations. But still very trainable at six months old! Good luck! 🐕. Dog training works very well with Flylady principles of little and often btw Grin.

Still wearing tin hat here. Wroth of teen thoroughly unleashed last night. And, owing to exams starting tomorrow, it's a half day today (wibble). DH so soft with her in face of real rudeness, drives me nuts, yet again cast in role of wicked witch. Gah!

Had better close screen and get on!
Have a productive planning day fledglings!

I've You have a lot on your plate. Hope baby doesn't get it. Lots of Christmas films on I would stick one on so you can crack on.

Welcome back Castle. Glad to hear it does stick and it works. Flylady. Lovely to have a mix of children. Newish baby for Christmas lovely, but hard work.
Willow You seem very busy.Im usually exhausted by Christmas but not this year. I will miss it though.
SC Try to rise above it. Difficult I know but if you can just let her rant they eventually see it has no effect. The one word answer "Rude" uttered at the worst bits and then walk away is often effective. That way you acknowledge their rude behaviour but don't get involved in an arguement. My DH was much worse with DD. Let her away with stuff he would never accepted from the boys which I thought was unfair on them.
zoo mmm porridge sounds lovely I might have that this morning. Love the paper chain so effective.

I need to do more today. I don't have the Advent calendar to open. I have
a house one which I had for the children. Plan was to buy some sweeties for DH and I. App. yesterday was a phone call so didn't get to town to buy my list.Didn't feel up to going afterwards but DH and I might go somewhere today as feeling a bit better. I haven't put any decorations up. DH thinks it is way to early because I usually leave it until school breaks up. Thinking I will do it on the 10th if he will get them down from the loft.
Going to try to do more flying today.
Hoping you all have a successful day. Ned and Ted AWOL again.

Midday check in.

Ta Da's

  • morning routine - dressed to shoes, hair and face, s&s bathrooms, first wash in, DW rotated and reloaded, breakfast, meds
  • dog walk
  • washing rebooted
  • financial stuff done (payments at least - not management)
  • some client writing done
  • walked dog to groomers - hoovered downstairs while he was out - walked dog home from groomers

Old fence is now down, but new one not up to tomorrow, so we have no boundary except a rather holey hedge. Feeling a bit exposed!

Bower, I sound busy, but there is too much of it! I never get everything done and there's always something new to add to the list. I'm not supposed to do any thinking for the dog, but I've taken that over while DH is below par and I just have no capacity left for anything else.

Right. Present wrapping for DD next. Then maybe half an hour with a cup of tea and my book.

Still not caught up I’m on the first page Blush hi castle and any other returnees/newbies I’ve missed

So today has at least involved actual GSD (Getting Shit Done) - took DD1 to meet the senco, asked questions and filled in the forms, starting sometime next week. Ordered book that yr8 are currently reading as I couldn’t find it in any charity shops (curious incident - read it myself years back but don’t have a copy). Ordered meds for DD1. Used the gym with a friend while Caglets in their sports club. Went to DS’ mock exam for tap dance. Played piano.

Got yet more shit news regarding referrals. I’ve not even told DH yet.

I have just caught up with the thread (including the last one)!! Now to remember who said what..

willow I love your bunting. zoo paper chains are a great idea, didn't even think to use newspaper. Ive sorry you have a houseful of sick people. DH is sick now, so of course he's dying of man flu. Last night he said he's convinced it's what childbirth feels like Hmm of course I know he's joking..

I have been busy here, we had Thanksgiving last week, ate too much but it went well. I got called into work on my days off so got some extra hours!

We were working on putting up the tree Sunday, pre-lit tree, I knew it had some bulbs out - try half the tree! Spend almost 8 hours replacing every bulb that was out (only got through half of them) before deciding to just go buy a new tree (At 8:30pm)! Got it put up and fluffed out by 11pm (almost past my bedtime!). Last night we decorated it and I have other lights etc to go out before I'm done.

While getting the decorations out I went through them, have a small box and bag to donate and a carrier bag full got tossed. I know I have more to get rid of though. DDs choir concert is tonight, but should be able to work on it a little bit before bed. Still cleaning up the kitchen nightly even though a bunch of boxes are in the living room (decorations).

I know I have missed a few of you, I'm so sorry. laputa sorry you're having bad news, I hope things look up soon. Hello to new comers and returnees and hello to everyone else! Oh and thank you Ghoulette/tinselette for running the thread last month, I have already forgotten who's running it this month - ahhh!

Castle congratulations on your baby boy, I feel slightly envious Ds4 was only 7 weeks last Chritmas and it was perfect, fully of squishy newborn cuddles. He is now a full blown toddler who climbs everything whilst still giving fantastic squishy cuddles. Time goes too fast!!

Zoo your paper chains have inspired me they look fab.

So sorry so many fledglings are dealing with various illnesses in their homes, fingers crossed they pass quickly.

The past 2 days have been pretty productive: the wash baskets are empty, the kitchen is clean and the sink shining. I have managed to clean the bathroom and hoover throughout but the ironing mountain is out of control 🙄

The next 3 days are the challenge for me as I'm in work and I find it so hard to keep on top of things but I'm planning to keep the routines up so we will see!

Mixed suet into two day steeping fruit. Cooked. Left to cool till morning.
DH found six jars to decant to in morning.
DH vacuumed.
S&S bathroom.
Washed dirty clothes from washing floor marathon.

No flying!
I’m away for a couple of days. DH is taking me it will be good for me.🙂

Good morning and well done everyone! You are all doing a lot better then me. Some great ta da lists here!

I have worked out why I am failing and it's because I can't leave Brexit threads alone am totally crap at getting stuff done when there are others around; and I never seem to be alone ATM, whereas before I spent huge tracts of time alone. Oh well, that's my latest excuse anyway!

Also, I spent most of yesterday doing 'work' work waiting around for a document to be delivered, which was frustrating, because it was delayed twice.

I spent the rest of the time clearing up after Monday's gardeners (no back or side access so all the bags of cuttings have to be dragged through kitchen and hall).

Here's hoping I can be more single-minded today...

Forgot to wish you a "Happy Thanksgiving" Hazel! Hope you had a good one! And hope your dh feels better soon.

That goes for everyone else who is ailing Brew

Enjoy your trip and thanks for the advice Bower - much appreciated - I am trying to rise above it. Let's just say it's the worst combo here ATM - exam stress + hormones > lethal combo. Usually insist on teen presence at table for all meals but things so bad currently, I am delivering trays of food up three flights of stairs, depositing hastily, retreating. i am also trying not to breath in the wrong way, never mind speaking, for fear of saying or doing 'wrong thing'. She's just about to leave for maths exam (fingers crossed). Tense. Very tense.

Lovely paper chains Zoo and hope Lil 'Zoo ok!

Had better get on with it and anti-procrastinate!
Hope everyone had a good day!

sc hope the maths exam goes well for your dd and she returns in a good mood! (Or at least a better mood!?)

I went out with some friends last night for a meal which was lovely but a bit of a late night (not that late but late for me on a school night!) added to that ds was up at 5 because he'd wet the bed so I'm going to try and get up and out this morning and do our errands so we can crash later on! Need to go to the post office, several shops to collect parcels and supermarket.

Hope everyone has a good day!
