Festive fledglings flying through December - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/11/2019 15:03

Welcome to the December (dare I say the Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Any newbies are very welcome Smile.

**
Flylady also does Christmas missions which I will link to each day. They are really useful and nearer the time she does super missions which help you if you have not managed the regular missions. They are just there to help and as Flylady says... do not worry as you do not need to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Link to the holiday cruising is

here

December’s habit is usually [[http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/december/
pampering yourself]] which is much needed this busy time of year. This can be as simple as taking two minutes to have a cup of tea, if long pampering sessions are unachievable.

The website will update to the December missions etc in the next few days so I will link it again if it is different.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Ghoulette for the November thread.

The Zoo Rap - in its full glory.

Starts up beat box

🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵

My name is zoo
My phone tells lies
Til flybaby cries
I talk lots of crap
In my zoo fuelled rap
The zoolets run me ragged
I look pretty haggard
My house is a tip
My back gives me jip
I talk a lot of twaddle
If i eat too much I waddle
I love this little thread
Where I offload what's in my head
I've made lots of mates
Who laugh at my phone's japes
We have a pointy stick
Which is sharp and very thick
Bower bought in ned and ted
I've gave "all fed nobodys dead"
Willow brings the sweets
Tinselette can add some treats
SC horse brings joy and love
Laputa drawings a cut above
Castle adds a baby to the throng
KT lists are always long
Foxes adds her baked goods to fuel our greed
Stressy fabulously leads
Hazel makes the treats
Willow makes bunting,out of sheets?
Marvellous DC harmony is no mean feat
I can't scroll back on this pile of crap
To check whose missing from my rap
If I left you out please say
And I will add you come what may
My apologies are most sincere
If I left off those so very dear
This group gives me hope and cheer
When it's all tits up and no one's near
Who always got my buggered back
This truly is the mad zoo rap!

Love the rap Zoo! However I don’t deserve my ‘long list’ line today. Just a load of towels washed, work and a 5 minute tidy. I’ll do better tomorrow!

Sorry about your Dad Willow Flowers for you and your family.

Stressy I gather you have a bit of a strained relationship with your parents? Are they staying long? It’ll be done and dusted soon and it’ll be a weight of your mind.

SC (fab new name) I had also planned to have cards written out and all presents wrapped. I’ve still got some shopping to buy, have most cards still to write, all to deliver / post and not a single thing wrapped. Ah well.

On the plus side I now have 9 whole days in a row off! DD will be in nursery for 3 of those days so I’m hoping to use those to get all Christmas prep sorted and the house how I want it, as well as hopefully a relaxing few hours to myself at some point. I always feel guilty sending DD to nursery if I’m off but I really struggle if I don’t get time to myself and time to crack on with things uninterrupted. Plus we still have to pay if she doesn’t go and I want my money’s worth Grin. We have a couple of lovely days planned so I won’t feel too bad.

TooStressyTooMessy · 13/12/2019 21:03

Strained pretty much covers it KT. I have asked for advice on this thread and on MN in general in the past about it all. Trying to be less of a doormat. Basically they do not appreciate that I am a grown up.

Do NOT feel guilty about sending DD to nursery.

It sounds like you’re doing a good job of it Stressy! PIL are similar with DH and therefore me. It’s so frustrating when they think you aren’t capable of making a sensible decision or sorting something out yourself. It’s much easier for me though, as they aren’t my DPs and I felt able to be quite blunt / ignore it from the start. You have my sympathies and I hope the visit goes well.

TooStressyTooMessy · 13/12/2019 22:30

My parents are similar to Christine Baranski’s character in Bad Mom’s Christmas if any of you have seen that! They really do mean well but are a bloody nightmare.

That was to Zoo BTW. Great rap! So pleased DD is enjoying the ballet, I'm a little sad that my DD gave it up but she wanted to devote much more time to swimming (trains 4-5 times a week) so I am a swim mum instead of a ballet mum now.

I felt a lot better today thank you SC.

Good luck with the parents visit Stressy

Busy day today. Took DD to the orthodontist and on to school. Then shop at Waitrose for drinks and nice bits for Christmas as had a voucher which expires Sunday. Home to unpack them off to DS's school to attend carol service. Then into work for a couple of hours, home, lit fire, made dinner, dropped a full glass bottle on the patio and had to spend ages picking up bits. Took DD swimming, home to eat dinner, hoovered last specks of glass off patio and settled down to watch the darts. Tomorrow DH is taking the DCs Christmas shopping so I can do some wrapping in peace.

Morning.

Tinselette1940 · 14/12/2019 06:54

Sorry - autocorrect there. Pops I meant

HungryHazelEyes · 14/12/2019 07:28

Phew, a lot has gone on since I was last on here!
I love the reindeer laputa it would go nicely on my tree this year! I'm in love with the rap zoo I feel honoured to be a part of it!

I managed to get my caramels all wrapped, all 101 of them! I do still need to make more though. I have been working crazy hours this week so hard to do much flying. Tonight dh and I went through the fridge, threw away 8 jars of pickles, all opened and mostly gone, natural peanut butter expired over a year ago, as well as other random condiments taking up space in the fridge!

MIL and I did our annual nutcracker outing tonight. We go to the ballet at the local high school and then go and get pie and tea afterwards, it's a tradition we started about 8 years ago and we may have only missed one year since then. We love it!

I did get my clothes out for tomorrow morning and got dw started. It's late (12:30am) and I have a busy day tomorrow. Sorry I missed a bunch of posters, I have been following everyone's events, just a few hours behind you.

HungryHazelEyes · 14/12/2019 07:30

Oh, I almost forgot. Thank you everyone, my treats do take time to make, but I enjoy making them (and eating them!). I hope to post pictures once I am done with them in a few days.

Hope it goes ok Zoo. I remember the day my DS had his ADOS, even though I knew
perfectly well that it was going to confirm autism I felt quite upset and emotional afterwards, be kind to yourself.

Well, I discovered last night that if you order before 9 the milkman can deliver croissants so we've had a civilised start to the day. House is a tip though. Looking forward to the rest of the Expletive household buggering off for a bit so I can clean in peace.

foxessocks · 14/12/2019 08:20

Good morning! Love your rap zoo! I wrote out a message yesterday but it seems to have disappeared Confused

The dc are going out with their grandad today, first time he's taken them anywhere on his own so I'm a little apprehensive, he isn't the kind to text or send a photo just to let you know how it's all going so I will have to keep busy I think so I don't keep wondering what they're doing! His new girlfriend is a childminder though so I guess that's reassuring Grin

TooStressyTooMessy · 14/12/2019 10:28

Morning everyone. Another busy day here. We are all on the way to a birthday party. Just about on time... so far. Then as soon as we get back I am taking the kids out. Then when we get back from that my parents will be getting here.

Was up until 1am wrapping and organising stuff for my parents. It got to that stage where you actually find it quite enjoyable... good telly, quiet house, no distractions.

However, although the spare room is not super messy it is not organised properly- need to move work kit, pull out sofa bed etc. Was really hoping that would be done before they get here so I look like a competent host Xmas Confused. They seem to have totally forgotten how busy Christmas with school age children is and will expect me to be much more organised than I am. (Not sure if any of you have watched Team America but I really want to say to them ‘Do you have any idea how fucking busy I am?’.

Anyway...

foxes, massive bonus that she is a childminder! Try to enjoy / make the most of the time.

Expletive croissants from milkman sounds fab.

zoo BrewFlowers, thinking of you today.

Ive, good to hear from you! How are you doing?

TooStressyTooMessy · 14/12/2019 12:56

Thanks for the Gin SC. Turns out they are not coming until tomorrow now so I’ll save it! Apparently the weather is very bad (rain and hail) so they don’t want to make the drive. Fair enough and they are still leaving tomorrow night. So I guess less time for us all to get along.

Happy Saturday everyone. It’s been a busy productive one here

Ta Das:
Hair appointment
DD’s storage unit assembled by DH (with minimal grumbling!)
Toys and books half sorted in DD’s room. She’s staying at my sister’s tonight as it’s both mine and DH’s work parties, so I can leave her bed covered in the other half for now.
My dressing room (tiny box room) rearranged (DD’s old bookcase added and have used it for handbags, jewellery etc), tidied and decluttered.
Our bedroom tidied
Dishwasher stacked
2 loads of washing
Top-up shop done and three Christmas presents completed ready to be wrapped as we are seeing the recipients tomorrow.
Nails painted.

About to have a relaxing bath, pluck out of control eyebrows then spend some time chilling with DD before I chuck on makeup and party outfit and drop her off.

I usually clean downstairs on a Saturday but that can wait until Monday as I’m off and it isn’t too horrendous.

Bet you’re relieved about the shorter visit stressy

zoo hope the assessment goes smoothly.

Hazel it sounds like you’ve been very productive despite working so much, and that sounds like a lovely evening.

I’ll see you all tomorrow, most likely in the naughty corner where I shall be nursing a hangover.
