Festive fledglings flying through December - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/11/2019 15:03

Welcome to the December (dare I say the Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Any newbies are very welcome Smile.

**
Flylady also does Christmas missions which I will link to each day. They are really useful and nearer the time she does super missions which help you if you have not managed the regular missions. They are just there to help and as Flylady says... do not worry as you do not need to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Link to the holiday cruising is

here

December’s habit is usually [[http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/december/
pampering yourself]] which is much needed this busy time of year. This can be as simple as taking two minutes to have a cup of tea, if long pampering sessions are unachievable.

The website will update to the December missions etc in the next few days so I will link it again if it is different.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Ghoulette for the November thread.

Good morning!

Very best of luck to your DD today Laputa! And what a fab photo! Bravo to her! And what a lovely confidence boost - great timing when starting a new school! Hope she loves it and first days and weeks goes well.

Waves to Hazel; Well done for keeping up with Flying routines. Same here re: Christmas! Our decs don't go up until weekend before Christmas (tree arriving 19th) and I have all my cards to write too! And yummy things to make! Argh!

Oh no I've poor baby Sad

Zoo very difficult situation for you with your dp. Don't wish to sound rude, especially as he has mh issues, but he's evidently trying to compensate with gifts a bit. If only he could see that you and the DC would appreciate his time, support, engagement and input more. Very difficult to convince a person of that who can't see it already; especially if he has fragile self esteem. He probably can't see his own worth to you and the kids ifyswim. Sorry will stop spouting pop psychology now. You end up dealing with all the fall out of course Flowers. You must be tearing your hair out! Horrible to be so unfairly cast in role of fun sucker; not nice at all when you are the one holding it all together.
And thanks for positive vibes yy, I am using same technique of dividing master list in to daily tasks but am failing to make my target every day Grin
What a lovely offer from head of year to bring your dd2 home after outing!

Oh dear Toostressy see your evening got worse, not better! Glad computer working though and good luck with parental visit prep!

Great list Expletive! Star

Agree everything is so expensive Despite chasing discounts etc, I've exceeded my present budget by a small amount this year Foxes but in my defense budget was a lot smaller than last year and I have been saving on other things such as not doing a big expat supermarket order for example. Hoping guests will bring crackers (of both varieties!) and British cheeses! One of my sister's has kindly made us a Christmas pudding. Have also tried to keep postal costs down for UK parcels.

Already been up for an hour and a half this morning as DD left for school 20 mins ago (early exam) - they start proceedings early over here Smile. DH never sleeps well on a Sunday night before busy week so was tossing and turning so I fled to boudoir half way through night which meant that I did a bit of 4 am tidying Smile

Other ta das so far:
emptied DW
packed up DD snacks
wms and TD on
25 mins tidying boudoir
rubbish & recycling

Sistercharlie · 09/12/2019 06:34

Have a good week everyone!

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 09/12/2019 06:46

Morning all

Baby slept well thankfully and was up just before 6. He seems ok in himself. I however feel like been swallowing broken glass.

Ta da

Few presents ordered on amazon
Small asda shop ordered (mainly present bits etc)

I need to buy crackers (the pulling sort) that is on my to do list after school run. Crackers, santa paper and tags, money wallets ..... what else have i forgotten?

marvelousways · 09/12/2019 07:07

book tickets for christmas event we want to go to

happy flying all!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 09/12/2019 07:21

Morning all! Sorry your throat is bad I've, I had that last week, it's grim. Plenty of honey and lemon!

Laputa, good luck to DD this morning and well done on her ballroom award! She looks so pleased and happy and a bit bewildered by the loveliness of it all. You must be so proud of her. Stressy, I'm pleased DD got through her ballet exam. Sorry you'll be spending some of today clearing up last night's disasters, hope everyone finally went to sleep!

Hazel, really impressed you're keeping flying going in this busy period when you had Thanksgiving as well.

Zoo sorry things are complex with your DP and his need to overcompensate with gifts. My DH used to be the same until events conspired to force a change a few years ago. Lots of therapy later things are better, but I still have to be the dull one asking "where's the money coming from?". It's hard.

Hello Tammy, Marvelous, Chic, KT, Expletive, SC and anyone else I've forgotten to name check.

Yesterday's Ta Das:
Morning routine
Money shuffling
Pics printed for DH's gift
Christmas trees up
Boxes back in the loft
Lunch roasted
Theatre trip done! It was terrific, so pleased I went

Today's To Dos:
Morning routine
Walk the hound
Home blessing (def. takes more than an hour if there's more than 2 of you living in the house. It can take an hour just to change all beds here).
Clear up after DS2, who happened in the kitchen and the living room after I'd gone to bed. Grrrr.
Paid work
Christmas cards
Start business accounts
What's for dinner? Good question.
Bit more wrapping.
Collapse in heap!

LivingInLaputa · 09/12/2019 07:53

Aww thanks everyone. She’s more surprised than anything I think :o it usually goes to older ones so it wasn’t even on her radar. Very proud :o :o :o

Ugh I so don’t want to be awake. But at least the 5hrs sleep I did get was actually uninterrupted for once!

Going to be a mad half hour now while everyone gets up and ready, we have my other DSD here too as she came round yesterday to give me my (amazing) birthday present :o and stayed over so she could see DD1 in uniform etc this morning! It’s so lovely, all 3 of my step kids (plus DSS’ girlfriend of 7 years) went to the same school she’s going to so lots of sharing memories etc :)

Going to walk to school with her, I have to drop her at reception at 9 where the (absolutely lovely) Senco will meet her and whisk her off for two lessons - DT and history! Fairly decent thing to start with I think. She will be doing period 1 and 2 only, until Christmas. No maths (her biggest hate, I am hoping they’ll screen for Dyscalculia when they do her EHCP) until Friday, and no English until next week which is a shame as she loves English but it gives us a chance to read the set book (Curious Incident) as I’ve no idea how far along they are.

Think I’ll get a taxi back though as my leg is killing from where I slipped over on the decking yesterday. FFS.

Then I have a meeting with our lovely family support worker to help me with yet more forms (due in soon and I’ve not even looked through them). And then I’ll try and get some home ed work prepared for the Caglets in the afternoon :)

Aaaah she looks soooo grown up in her uniform 😭😭😭 she seems quite happy today thankfully! I’m going to shower and then we will leave! Eeeeek!

Bowerbird5 · 09/12/2019 09:21

Ahh that’s lovely Laputa.

I need to catch up on all the goings on.

Second concert went very well and was well supported. The venue was full. Had a couple of drinks in the pub when I got back. Bit chatty as I was still excited from concert- we were all buzzing. Slept really well. My back is aching a bit this morning from all the standing.

To do

Wrap presents then clean dining room. DH had a friend drop by yesterday which made me tidy kitchen and sitting room but I gave up with dining room because I didn’t have time. I put gifts on top so it looked like it was all Christmas stuff.

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/12/2019 10:48

Morning all.

Laputa, how did she get on when you dropped her off? Hope your leg not too sore!

Glad theatre trip was good Willow. Hope you get all your Christmas stuff that you want to done today marvelous.

Brew hot lemon for you Ive Flowers.

Good luck to your DD today SC. Glad you at least have your Christmas guest plans more finalised now.

Lovely to hear concert went well Bower.

YY to milk spills foxes and Expletive. DD1 has always loved warm milk and now DD2 likes cold milk so there is a constant risk of spillage!

Hazel, that sounds amazing flying with Thanksgiving. Don’t worry about mentioning all names, I try to regularly mention names when I am thread leading and some posters (SC and others) are great at doing lots of personals but sometimes it is not achievable. We tend to all end up chatting as we go along when we are meant to be flying in my case in some way anyway Smile.

Thanks for my medal zoo Xmas Grin. I will wear it with pride.

Festive cherry waves to everyone else.

I amazed to report the computer is working! Still feel we can’t relax quite yet but feeling cautiously optimistic Xmas Grin. Thanks for everyone’s good vibes.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/12/2019 14:40

Laputa❤️
I've have you still got backache or has it all migrated to your head and us throat still painful?bloody nightmare feeling ill whilst try manage everything else.i could say I put pointy stick on the fire in naughty corner if you need a break??
I've pootled a bit today.still feel awful, but crap us building around me..

Tada
1load washing done, dry and put away
Empty bins into black one
Locate dining table and floor

Have keep stop to catch breath.dribing me NUTS.i chase up blood results(5th attempt get thru in a month, have been on hold 5x for 45 mins +) we aren't clinicians said receptionist and it just says irons to be expected...I need to know how low is low to ascertain if that's palpitations cause or I need get looked at!I have a doctor ring back NEXT MONDAY MORNING!!!

Funtimes for next week then!.

Managed order zoolets stuff.he went over a little, but it did include D's birthday stuff(18th Dec) so by his standards it's quite low.i need buy few bits, and have got some bits already.they have less stuff but as get older these things are more expensive!

It's 30years today I lost my mum.its hit me this year, such a big number,so many years without her
I saw some hyacinths in a bowl on my travels and reminded me of her.she used force them as gifts for my great aunts, and they returned same gifts at xmas.after they died off they went in garden for future springs.it seemed a nice way to remember her so I got them.

LivingInLaputa · 09/12/2019 15:51

Zoo that is an awfully long time to be without your mum :( Thanks

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/12/2019 17:25

zoo, you are absolutely not derailing the thread. Hyacinths are a lovely way to remember her.

Tammy, hectic is absolutely the word fir the weeks leading up the Christmas! Thankfully DD1 didn’t want to go to gymnastics tonight. I usually wouldn’t encourage just skipping it but this is such a busy week, we are only oh Monday and actually I think it’s a sensible decision. So we have eaten tea and I now need to make the most of this time with them at home. We need to make some Christmas progress! I am out tonight. Not feeling it tbh.

Fabulous news re school Laputa.

More Brew for you Ive.

Waves to Willow and everyone else.

zoo Flowers

Laputa well done to your dd, she's brave doing that, you must be v proud Smile

I had a fairly productive day today, I cleaned out my baking cupboard, had a lot of stuff in there that was ancientShock and made a lovely tuna pasta bake for dinner which dd had two big helpings of. So I'm pretty pleased.

Still got more Xmas stuff to do and loads on at school this week (obviously!) . Meant to be going out with dd and a group of friends ,mum's and kids , after school tomorrow but 3 people have already dropped out Hmm

KTCluck · 09/12/2019 21:13

So pleased your DD’s first day went well Laputa

Flowers for you Zoo.

Hope you’re feeling better now Ive.

I’ve just skim read the thread so sorry if I’ve missed anything big.

Work day today so minimal flying. The house feels a bit chaotic but it I’m hoping it’ll look a bit more under control with a five minute blitz before bed. I should probably be more productive than that, but I’m definitely feeling the “we get there in the end” vibes tonight.

Tinselette1940 · 09/12/2019 21:56

zoo - that's a lovely memory of your mum. I'm sorry you lost her at a young age.

Work was like hell

Tinselette1940 · 09/12/2019 21:59
