Festive fledglings flying through December - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/11/2019 15:03

Welcome to the December (dare I say the Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Any newbies are very welcome Smile.

**
Flylady also does Christmas missions which I will link to each day. They are really useful and nearer the time she does super missions which help you if you have not managed the regular missions. They are just there to help and as Flylady says... do not worry as you do not need to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Link to the holiday cruising is

here

December’s habit is usually [[http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/december/
pampering yourself]] which is much needed this busy time of year. This can be as simple as taking two minutes to have a cup of tea, if long pampering sessions are unachievable.

The website will update to the December missions etc in the next few days so I will link it again if it is different.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Ghoulette for the November thread.

Not derailling Tinselette, I’d argue that it flying related Grin.

Just back from night out. Very cheap night as one and a bit glasses of prosecco only. Also got a lift back Grin. Have pretty much lost my voice though so tomorrow will be fun Sad. Night all.

Well done to DD Laputa, both for school and dancing.

*Zoo+ - derail away, this thread is more about life's ups and downs than housework, you are shouldering an awful lot and then today thinking of your mum too Flowers.

Well, busy day here again.

Tada!
See DCs off to school

I managed most of my list yesterday - just tickets left to book that I didnt get round to, but will do today.
glad I managed to get outside lights all put up - it was a mamouth job, and of course they were all tnagled when I got them out of the loft!
Also managed to drop rubbish to the tip which was a good achievement.

feeling a bit fragile this morning (my anxiety and depression is trying to stage a takeover) but not going to let it beat me!

Sistercharlie · 10/12/2019 08:15

Good morning!
Flowers
For Zoo today Flowers
Flowers
Sorry you have to go on a long trek when you are not feeling well on today of all days Sad. The hyacinths are a lovely way to remember your mum Flowers

As others have said , not a derailment at all and nor is yours Tinselette very interesting indeed (and noted!)! Smile

You'll probably all be relieved to hear that I've just lost yet another long & rambling post about why I did no Christmas stuff yesterday again either! Grin The long and short of it was I did 'work' work for most of the day and then got contacted by a distressed parent and had to do my first proper class rep work. And the day as gone - pouf - yikes!

Also dd was back early after her exam and looked as white as a sheet and was shivering with cold (was freezing here). She proceeded to eat a bag of mixed nuts and cheese and crackers while lunch was cooking, followed by 2 helpings of cold chicken, a large portion of Mediterranean veg and rice, followed by 2 helpings of fruit salad, followed by two waffles, followed by a chocolate St Nicolas, a bunch of grapes and a satsuma. She then went to sleep for two hours and came downstairs looking pink again Grin. Teens eh? Sometimes they just need to snaffle Grin.
Doing a chilli for her today with rice and lemon and lime drizzle cake.

I like the way we've gone from squishy newborns to hoover filters to Faulty Tower-like hotels, to treggings, to golden retrievers and Christmas bunting to the French Revolution in the space of a few days Grin Grin. 'Tis grand Grin

Ta da so far:
exam snacks for dd
emptied DW
overnight washing hung up
S&S
dining room table hot spot
went through a stack of post

I've received my third Christmas card from people much more organised then me! Yikes! Had better write some!

Have a good day everyone!

Sistercharlie · 10/12/2019 08:18

Forgot to say:
Great lists everyone!
Glad it went well Bower and that's another fab photo Laputa hope your dd has another good day!

Sistercharlie · 10/12/2019 08:20

Take care of your throat Toostressy and take it steady Marvelous MH important too!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 10/12/2019 09:10

Morning all! That sounds complex, SC, glad your DD perked up after (lots of) food! My DS2 is the same, so pale he's nearly blue at the best of times and goes all white and spiteful (as my grandmother used to say) if he's cold / hungry / tired. Zoo, what a lovely, tangible way to remember your Mum, so sorry she's been gone so long Flowers. I'VE, marvelous, Stressy hope you are all feeling better today. Bower, great news that the concert went well.

Dammit, namechecking from memory on my phone and have run out!

Ah, wait - Tammy, KT, foxes, so bonkers hectic with school at this time of year. I'm only dealing with 1 (secondary) this year and it's still mad.

Only got my morning routine, bathroom cleaning and some work done yesterday, then crashed and burned and took my cold back to bed and slept all afternoon. Trying to reverse the polarity and run this morning from bed today so I can deal with After School.

Right. Time for a Big List Of Christmas Tasks.

We get there in the end!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 10/12/2019 09:11

Dammit, still missed one - Tinselette, thanks for the French Revolution reading list (adds titles to own Wait Here list of reading to do).

Bowerbird5 · 10/12/2019 10:14

Thanks everyone.
Still haven’t caught up on the thread or my plan yesterday.
BF phoned to say thank you for a gift I left for looking after cat and anniversary. It was a special one.
She sounded awful so I finished what I was doing and went up. Her kitchen was in a mess and she was near to tears as she feels so awful. And tired so we did kitchen except table. She showed me some of Grandchildren’s pressies and I am going up to help her wrap them tomorrow. I think I am nearly finished.
Weather is dreadful here this morning after a lovely day yesterday. High winds and rain and I need to go out three times today / night.
Going to finish dining room table then clean it. We will leave presents wrapped on there until tree is down and sorted.

Glad it is the kitchen. Mine is done bar the dresser. So will do that this week and the wall shelf. Smug.😙 have already done top of fridge flylady!

Boudoir is a tip again just baskets of clothes and bedding that I haven’t put away and neither has Ned or Ted. A few other things that were dumped in here last year🤗 like the first aid medicine box. It used to live on top of the fridge but it is so much lighter in there without it. I have one tiny basket with inhalers and cat ear drops in.

Will attempt to catch up on you busyness today. I was out at quiz and invited friend for tea so didn’t get to read up with that and going up to BF for a couple of hours. Made her cancel her clients for Wednesday as she looks awful I have never seen her look so ill - virus or flu.

Wing flaps to all good flying today.

LivingInLaputa · 10/12/2019 10:17

Aw thanks again. Marvelous and other newbies, DD1 has been home educated for nearly 5 years - she got incredibly anxious and miserable in year 3, was being bullied too and the school did nothing. She’s always wondered about trying secondary at times, so she’s just started year 8. She’s autistic and we recently found out she’s got a whole bunch of learning difficulties so she’s in a school with a lot of SN support.

DS is 10, we withdrew him at the same time as he was very unhappy in year 1. He’s also autistic and we are awaiting a (cut and dry) ADHD diagnosis. He has no intention of going back ever! He wants to do more science now we will be able to focus more on him.

She happily walked off to school alone this morning :) it’s weird that it doesn’t feel weird! :)

I’ve just started on the higher dose of my ADHD meds, really hoping they work better now. Just feel a bit spacey so far!

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/12/2019 10:23

Morning all Brew.

I can totally related to the early night fails Expletive. One of my friends (with children) was telling me at the weekend that they go to bed at 8 or 9 o’clock. How Shock?

SC yes I also love how this thread meanders along. It’s one of the best things about it Xmas Smile.

Take care of yourself marvelous.

December’s habit is pampering everyone so remember to try to take some time for yourself, even if that is 2 minutes to clear your head with a cup of tea.

Today I have workmen here sorting dishwasher out. Always feel so awkward with people working in house but seizing the chance to get on with spare room. It’s actually not too bad now but have a load of work-related kit in there which j am not sure how to store Xmas Confused.

My parents have got in touch asking if they could postpone the visit until after Christmas as they are worried it will be too much for me because they still think I am a fragile child(stupidly let them know I had a sore throat). No, you cannot postpone (genuine reason aside of course). I will be better by the weekend and have today off with minimal talking and hoping to talk very little on Thursday too! Plus I have paid a fortune for a Christmas event and tickets to see Santa which DDs are excited about. Plus it will hang over my head all Christmas then. Was clinging to your thought SC of getting the stressful visit done before Christmas. FFS Xmas Angry. So I tried to appear breezy and say please do come on Saturday.

Bowerbird5 · 10/12/2019 12:05

zoo if only we were closer I’m sure we would become friends and I would gladly take you to do your BIG shop so you don’t have to walk home with it all!

My BF has been a wonderful friend to me. Im always glad to give something back. We shed many tears over a cup of tea at the kitchen tables.
I am being super lazy this morning. Where the hell is that pointy stick?

Liking the stash and dash and wish I had a hall cupboard. I have an airing cupboard upstairs which will take a small amount at the bottom. Bingo! I bet if I tidy it out that the stick dyson will fit in there. Then when the other is mended I can have one up and one down save my back. Now to find something for the tools. There might be something in the shed.

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 10/12/2019 12:06

I was just about to suggest bower move near me zoo Grin i dont think i would win a tug of war for her right now

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/12/2019 12:21

stressy yes you can.i remember a time you would've probably not even stood up and said I will be ok and we can do this before xmas.you have grown so much this year both in ability to know what need to happen and skills to achieve it.its ok to feel bit apprehensive after so many years of keeping the peace and accepting whatever was said but stressydoormat is dead, and the all new stressy is entitled to have opinions and ights and needs met❤️

Tinselette1940 · 10/12/2019 13:44

Oh I've nooooooo. Not flu 🤧😫😷🤒. You poor sausage.

Tinselette1940 · 10/12/2019 13:50

IWillWearTheGreenWillow no problem. Just remembered Simon Schama's Citizens too.

I'm channelling my inner revolting peasant this week, what with Thursday etc

This particular peasant hasn't taken food out of the freezer for dinner so cake/bread it is a la Marie Antoinette

marvelousways · 10/12/2019 18:41

Eveneing all
sister bless your dd, sounds like she did indeed need to eat all the food!
greenwillow sometimes you just need to rest. Hope cold has improved
bower bet your friend appreciated your help
laputa having the right support in school makes such a difference. My dd3 has ASD ans specific learning difficulties. Her secondary school have been fantastic with support for her (primary school was awful but that's another story) I also Home ed'ed my oldest 3 for a few years. They all ended up going back into secondary school (their choice) and have done well ever since. Loved my home edding days! Hope things continue to go well for your dd.(and your ds )
stressy well done for sticking to visit plans. Hope it goes OK
zoo well done on bag stashing. My dd1 (20) is vegetarian and every now and then talks about becoming vegan, but I do worry .about her getting everything she needs if she were to do that, although as she is off at uni now it is really not for me to worry about!
ive poor you. rest up as much as you can.
tinsel I fancy a go at being Marie Antoinette too, could solve my whats for dinner dilema tomorrow!

Now need to book tickets for christmas thing and order a couple of bits for dd1. Running out of energy though!!
